[SOLVED] what headers do I need to build oss

Hi All,
I'm trying to run the open sound system but my problem is this:
[root@StudioA a]# soundoff && soundon
OSS not loaded.
Relinking OSS kernel modules for "3.12.8-1-ARCH SMP preempt mod_unload modversions "
This may take few moments - please stand by...

Please install the kernel development package if linking the

The kernel development package may be called kernel-devel, kernel-smp-devel,
kernel-sources, kernel-headers or something like that. Please refer
to the documentation of your Linux distribution if there are any
difficulties in installing the kernel/driver development environment.
For your Linux distribution the right kernel source package
might be kernel-source.

I've seen this thread: https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php … 95#p673595 but the solution doesn't apply.
Can anyone please point me in the right direction?
Thanks!

  • What are the parts needed to build an iPhone 4s

Since iPhone 4s tend to be expensive I have took it upon myself to make the iPhone 4s using parts. My opinion is that it's way cheaper! So can someone guide me by telling the peices needed?
Thank you for your time (:

Many of the parts listed, such as the logic board, A5 chip, etc. are restricted by Apple. You could hire someone to break into the Foxconn plant and steal the parts for you, but that isn't safe, or legal, or even ethical. Not to mention expensive.
What you will need to do is wait until there have been enough broken phones sold for parts and then buy them from a 3rd party company. Buying all the parts for the 4s shouldn't cost you more than $800 to $900 by then.

Help urgently needed, I have installed Logic Pro 9, since then my Final Cut Pro X keep freezing. Anyone what is wrong and how to solve it? I desperately need help on this. Apple support says I have to pay £85 for to help me. Thanks

Just a word of advice. Never ever use the word "urgent" on this forum

  • What do I need to build a minimal Cisco videoconferencing system?

I'm trying to figure out what I need to build a videoconferencing
    system.
    I already have:
    Main site with a Cisco 3825 w/ Adv IP 12.4, where I expect I'll have 5
    - 10 users who will regularly use a videoconferencing system
    Remote site with a Cisco 2811 w/ Adv IP 12.4, where I'll have 3 - 5
    users
    I'll be adding 5 - 6 additional remote sites with 2811s, with 3 - 5
    regular users each.
Everyone will be connected across T1s and IP.
I though I could just use MeetingPlace Express, but I've just realized
that MPE is for voice and web conferencing only, and has no video
    component.
So I'm trying to figure out all the bits and pieces of MeetingPlace,
and I just can't work out what I truly need. If I'm half-way on track,
a 8106 30UL IP Bundle will get me started, but I'll also have to buy a
Media Convergence Server AND a Cisco Unified Videoconferencing 3515 AND
the Video Integration software, not including any goodies like Outlook integration or sufficient web
    conferencing licenses.
Is there anything else I'm missing? Or am I way off base, and MPE will
work just fine? I sure would appreciate the advise.

Hi. It sounds like you've gotten further than I have. I'm lost regarding where to go from the camera. I thought Cisco had camera's and screens for a complete solution. I am lost. I believe I need a 3500 series device but how it connects to the LAN, I am very confused about. Do I need to buy a camera and microphone from another vendor?

  • Need to build a computer but I don't know what questions to ask

I've finished a couple semesters in school studying After Effects, Premiere, Photoshop, Illustrator, etc. I'm about to start moving forward in producing some video content and forming a career around it. I purchased a copy of Adobe CS6 production premium and I need to build a computer to run it on. I'm willing to pay for quality but I don't want to overspend. I'm a geek but have been out of the "Performance PC Game" for so long now that I don't know where to begin. Most of my work will be in After Effects and Premier editing video (mostly that I will shoot myself on a quality undetermined model camera).
I want a computer that is powerful enough to keep up with me as my skills grow. I also want to build it from the ground up. Money isn't as much as an issue for me as long as I don't have to upgrade in a year from now. If you were going to build a new box and wanted to "spend smart" what would you build? I know the first thing you are going to ask me is my budget, but it varies. I'd like to spend under $2k (not including monitors) but if I need to go over that, so be it.

You need to thoroughly read Harm's Tweakers Page on out PPBM7 web site.
What media are you going to be editing?
If you want the latest and greatest (longest life cycle) there will be a new generation of high end CPU's and chipsets introduced by Intel, I have heard, this mid-September.  It is the Haswell-E CPU and the X99 chipset.
The CPU will be available in 6-cores and 8-core versions.  While tending towards expensive a low end version of this new generation would be a great long-term investment.  The low-end Hasewell-E CPU chip is the i7-5820K has a pre-order price of $426.
The DDR4 memory will (at least initially) will be more expensive but is much faster and again will be around for a long time whereas the current DDR3 will start becoming obsolete.  You can possibly start out with minimal memory (DDR4 is now available in 4, 8, and 16 GB modules) at least the 8 GB size so you have the option to easily add more memory as you get into more complex processing.
Get yourself a small (128 GB) good SSD for your OS/Applications and at least one other good SSD plus a large hard drive as a good starting point.  Good SSD's have great write rates like the Crucial M550 and the Samsung 840 Pro.
The new X99 chipset motherboards offer great expansion capabilities with many more PCIe lanes than the current quad core CPU motherboards so your options for future upgrades are wide open.  Many new X99 motherboards will have an M.2 connector on the motherboard and/or SATA Express connectors which are great advances in the new higher performance SSD's that remove the bandwidth limitations of SATA 6Gb/s.  In the not to distant future we are talking (very expensive) SSD's the will have up to 3000 MB/sec read speed!

  • [SOLVED]what do the package dependencies mean?

Could somebody tell me the meaning of the dependencies?
    https://www.archlinux.org/packages/comm … _64/r8168/
    Dependencies (3)
    linux>=3.15
    linux<3.16
    linux-headers (make)
I now know that (make) means the package will be needed in build/make. But what does the upper two lines mean?
Is it to say all kernel versions are OK?

    progandy wrote:It means that r8168 needs a kernel from the 3.15 series (e.g. 3.15, 3.15.0, 3.15.1, 3.15.rc4). It won't work with 2.6, 3.14.7, 3.14, 3.16, 3.16.1, 4.123, ...
so the >= or < symbols only mean work or not work?
google does not work for these symbols, and it is not so obvious for new comers.

  • Need Help Building a Graphic Design/Video Editing PC

Greetings everybody, my name is David, and I'm hoping to get a little assistance building a computer system either from scratch or from a couple of computers I have picked out.
I hope this that doesn't sound unrealistic but I only have around $600 in my budget to build a Graphic Designer machine. My intentions are to get a subscription to Adobe cloud so I would have access to all of Adobe CS6 products. (I won’t be using any of the Touch or Game developers applications.)
I would like to post two links to two machines that I picked out that are in my price range and would like some advice as to whether or not either one of these machines have enough processing power to be able to handle all Adobe CS 6 products.
I am aware that neither one of these machines have a Graphics Processing Unit (GPU) and that I would have to purchase one and add it. Which leads me to my first question; are the processors on either one of these machines capable of handling a GPU that is on the Adobe recommended list for processors?
And secondly, if I were to build a machine from scratch, is $600 enough to build a machine that is capable of handling Adobe CS6  products? When building a machine from scratch can you tell me what the minimum requirements are for a motherboard? Or are there any sites that offer specific advise for building PC's for graphic design?
I noticed after looking through the list of recommended graphics processing units that the majority of those are very expensive, in the $500-$3000 range. Can you please recommend a graphics processing unit that is in the $200-$300 range that would be fully adequate to handle Adobe products? Also what things do I need to take into consideration when building the machine from scratch to ensure that all my hardware is capable of handling Adobe CS6 products.
What do I need to add to either one of these prebuilt computers to make them Adobe-ready, If they are in fact worthy at all?
Here are the links for two machines that I have picked out:
    http://www.costco.com/HP-Pavilion-p6t-Desktop%2c-Intel%C2%AE-Core%E2%8 4%A2-i3-2130-3.4GHz.product.100010197.html
    http://www.costco.com/ZT-Desktop%2c-Intel%C2%AE-Core%E2%84%A2-i5-3470- 3.2GHz.product.100027436.html
I do realize that neither one of these machines have a graphics card in them. Can you tell by looking at the specifications on either one of these machines, whether or not your typical graphics card would fit inside the case If they are indeed worthy in all other respects?
And I realize that I mentioned that I only had $600 to spend, however if either one of these prebuilt machines are powerful enough in all other respects, I don't have an issue waiting a month or two before buying the graphics card and installing a little bit later.
Thank you in advance for your input.
    Sincerely,
    David

Your HP Costco link results in an out of stock message
Your ZT Costco link is very likely NOT expandable due to the VERY small power supply... so you will likely NOT be able to add a video card later
For PPro video editing you want an nVidia graphics adapter http://www.pacifier.com/~jtsmith/GPU.HTM and even the low power nVidia may be too much for that computer
Also, for video editing, you need a MINIMUM of 2 hard drives... and trying to edit HiDef video with an i5 will be a study of waiting for things to happen
As Harm said... a $600 computer will work for everything EXCEPT video editing
This DIY list is just about twice your budget, but it will work for video editing

Your problem is that the program wants a good video card and a fast hard drive and lots of memory and you have none of the above. If you upgraded the RAM to 8 gigs and installed a solid state hard drive you might make the program useable but the real bottleneck  is going to be the Intel HD graphics, which cannot be upgraded.
You do have an open slot to add one 4 gig memory module. This is an easy relatively inexpensive upgrade. See here:
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L7FvZ-JduRM
    http://www.crucial.com/usa/en/ct51264bf160b
I would try this a step at a time. Next would be the solid state drive. That would cost maybe $150. Post back if you need more help.

  • What technical components are needed for integration of SAP BI and BO?

    Hello,
What technical components are needed for integration of SAP BI and BO?

    Hi,
you need to setup a BOBJ server (eg. BusinessObjects Enterprise XI 3.1 or BO Edge 3.1) and then install the BusinessObjects integration Kit for SAP on the same machine your BOBJ server runs.
In order to build reports you can either use Crystal Reports (eg Install Crystal Report Designer 2008 V1 if you have an XI 3.1 server installed), WebIntelligence (Install the Business Objects XI 3.1 Client Tools in order to be able to build universes), BusinessObjects Voyager or XCelsius. Please note that you have to always install the BOBJ integration Kit for SAP (should be the same version as your server and client installation) on your clients AFTER you installed one or more of the above client tools.

  • [SOLVED] What is the best way to use ZFS on linux-ck?

Hi, I've recently gotten into ZFS to replace my Intel FakeRaid array I had set up for my /home folder. All is well under the stock kernel, but I'm running into issues while trying to run it under linux-ck.
At boot systemd throws a fit, and in the emergency shell it seems that -CK cannot use the installed module (module not found). I noticed that the versions for -ck and -arch are currently slightly different, and tried recompiling -ck to match -arch's version to no avail.
Inspecting the PKGBUILDs for the zfs packages, it looks like they're designed to be built for the current [core] version of the stock kernel only, which would explain why -ck can't see the zfs module.
Is there an elegant, semi-automatic way to go about maintaining zfs/spl so that I can keep it up-to-date for the current linux-ck version?
    Thanks!

graysky wrote:You will need to change the PKGBUILDs for zfs-git/spl-git to require linux-ck and linux-ck-headers rather than linux and linux-headers.
Okay, I was thinking it would be something along those lines. Thanks for the clarification.
After I modify the PKGBUILDs to use linux-ck, I should be able to build the modules against -ck even if I'm currently running -arch, correct? Just want make sure, since I'd like to avoid breaking ZFS on both kernels at the same time so I don't have to deal with some awkward situation where I need to build the modules against -ck from the emergency shell or something.

  • What questions do I need to ask the IT department?

My employer recently set up wireless access for our whole campus, and I'd like to be able to connect to it with my MacBook.
This isn't a hack job - I'm fully authorized to access the network. My problem is just that when I called the Help Desk to ask what settings I should use to configure Airport, I got the answer we always get in our group whenever we ask a question: "Sorry, we don't support Macs. If you want to use this feature, you need to request a Windows PC from the hardware support team."
I've got some people in IT that I can call who probably can help me "under the table" -- but I'll need to know EXACTLY what info I'll need and where they can find it on a Windows system. Can anyone tell me what I should ask for in Windows-ese, and how to translate their answers into what I need to configure the Airport card?
Note: I've tried scanning with KisMac and identified maybe a dozen wireless networks visible from our building, both managed and non-managed and with an assortment of open, WEP and WPA access -- so the range of possibilities is too large to get very far with trial and error.
    Thanks for any info...

Just ask them for the network name and if wireless encryption is enabled. If wireless encryption is enabled, ask them for the associated password.

  • What adaptor do I need to attach my cinema LED monitor to my MacBook Pro ?

what adaptor do I need to attach my new LED Cinema monitor to my MacBook Pro? of course the salesman assurred me it would owrks - well it does with my last year's mac book pro - but I want to use it with my old MacBook Pro - what is the adaptor name or even the model number would be good..

thank you for your comments - after visit to apple, est buy and then a call to MacDoc store
I have purchased a Kanex C247DL cable adaptor - thru amazon for about $90.00 -
this allows for me to connect to a Non Unibody MacBook pro 15" laptop to a Apple 27' LED Cinema monitor
I needed a Female minidisplay port to a Male DVI adapter.
This Kanex made adapter allowed for the monitor ( which is one long cable with 3 plugs - 1 for power, 1 USB male and the 1 male mini display port- only 3 usb female ports in the back of the monitor itself)
to plug its USB and the minidisplay port from the monitor and then plug directly into my macbook pro thru the older styled monitor ( female) plug on the right of the computer + plugging into a USB port (which I have on both sides of my unit) - problem solved - i guess i will find out when the adaptor arrives -
The Apple store said there is no such thing..Best Buys Mac rep said we dont carry them and maybe fryes - fryes did have it online..and this local culver city, La company MacDocs didnt carry it any more but sent me to the manufacturer website...
I know the Thunderbolt monitor would not work - but the MacMail employees assurred me this monitor would...wrong..Well I guess I can too be a computer sales person....good thing I didnt give up ...
