Some CS4 Raw adjustments lost after save to jpg or tiff

I've been running Photoshop CS4 under Windows XP 64 bit  (with 8Gb RAM) with no problems whatsoever (including use of GPU feature) since November 2008.
Very recently, with a difficult  event photosession I have a bunch of photos that have are overexposed/blown out highlights which were easily fixed with RAW adjustments in Bridge CS4 with the generous use of the RECOVERY slider as well as EXPOSURE.
After converting to JPEG (quality 12) or Tiff (as a test) the initially overexposed photos which were fixed and look fine in both Bridge and in Photshop show up overexposed -as if the RAW adjustments have never been made.  In other words the jpg or tiff version appears with blown highlights right next to the corrected RAW version (Canon CR2 files).   I need to emphasize that when the adjusted RAW is opened in Photoshop it looks fine -with all of the adjustments perfect. But once it is saved in Photoshop, the saved file does not look the same, it now has blown out highlights.
In other words something in the workflow whether Photoshop or RAW is simply not working the way it should and the way it used to work.
I have downloaded and installed the latest  RAW  5.5. It has not helped at all.  I can't pinpoint the time when this problem first showed up because I normally hardly ever have images with blown highlights. This last  event shoot was very poorly lit and it took a bit of time to figure out how to correct the exposure setting on the spot.
Have any of you experienced this problem?  I can't get Adobe Tech support telephone support without paying for the privilege, in spite of the fact that I suspect that this is a program bug.
Any suggestions will be greatly  appreciated and welcome.
Thanks,
Dan

Some additional findings:
When I looked at the JPEGs which had blown highlights in Bridge, with ACDsee,  they looked fine! So I also tested with Windows Fax Viewer and they're fine again.  Conclusion -Bridge is showing unedited exposure.
Then in response to posting this same problem on Dpreview I got the solution from Walter Wollert:
wwollert wrote:
" Do you have tif and jpg edit options enabled in RAW(ACR)? There was something I ran into that caused the problem like you have. I turned these options off and it cleared up. Why? Ur guess is as good as mine.
Again, I could be in error, since it happened a while ago and I sometimes have rolling blackouts.
Walter
Hey Walter,
Your suggestion solved my problem. Who would have expected that disabling JPEG editing in RAW would solve this problem?  I have been told to make sure this feature was enabled and in fact I always had this enabled because on occassion I find it very useful to use RAW tools to fix problems in some old JPGs.
I've been terribly annoyed and depressed about this problem and it just about completely stopped my editing for over 2 weeks, so you can be sure I am extremely thankful for your HEADS ON solution.
Someone at Adobe should have their head dunked in toilet bowl perhaps?
I don't ever remember seeing this problem in the past, even though I had the JPEG & TIFF editing enabled, and therefore I thought this "bug" crept in with one of the program updates.
Thanks a MILLION!!!,
Dan"
So that's the answer to the problem!

  • LiveCycle Designer ES2 some scripted changes not preserved after Save

    Hi,
I have some Text Field names that are changed by Javascript in certain Click Events. These renamed fields are used for navigation purposes in conjunction with xfa.form.resolveNode, and all works flawlessly until the form is saved, and re-opened.
After opening the saved form, all data entered is preserved, but the new Field names have not been preserved and resolveNode returns a null value.
The "Preserve scripting changes to form when saved" is set to "Automatically" in the Form Properties.
    Any ideas/comments?
    Thanks,
    Ron

    Hi Ron,
I don't think that you will get this to work. I suspect that when the form is reopened the Template DOM contains the original name of the text field and that this is used when the form is rendered.
You could test this with a temporary button with this is the click event:
    console.println("Textfield name BEFORE remerge: " + TextField.name);
    xfa.form.remerge();
    console.println("Textfield name AFTER remerge: " + TextField.name);
You would click this AFTER your other script has changed the name of the text field. Also you will need to open the JavaScript Console (Control+J) in order to see the results.
    Good luck,
    Niall

  • Some of music Library lost after player fr

    Can anyone help?
My player 40gb Zen Xtra froze and after contacting customer support, performing a disk clean up and upgrading firmware, on rebooting I am missing about 900 tracks even though my player has the same amount of free space left as before the problem.
Can the problem be solved without re formatting?

    Hi again,
hope I'm not bothering you - just wanted to say "thanks" - I did go through w/the process - deleted the files and then let it try and rebuild itself.  The only problem was that I still don't have all my stuff back.  I think, though, it's because the WMP got corrupted yesterday - the problem, most likely, was when I found this thing on the internet where I could get a bunch of free music downloads - didn't think there'd be a problem - they all came from archive.org, which I've used many, many times to get a lot of live Grateful Dead stuff and some other stuff, like live Tortoise, etc.  I think it might've been the content or the amount of stuff that did something to screw it up - not quite sure.  At least I have my most cherished stuff back!
Wow - I wish I had that much computer knowledge - I'm not stupid or anything, but not that great with mechanical stuff, electronics or deep into computers.  I think, though, if I were to get the right training I could pick it up.
Well, thanks again.  Hope you have a nice rest of your Sunday (it's 1/5 about 5:15pm).
    Take it easy,

  • Change save to jpg to tiff

I found a script that allows to crop and straighten scanned photos. However, there are 2 changes I want to make:

  • Location of Camera Raw settings storage for jpg and tiff

Just upgraded to CS3 on Windows. Cannot figure out where camera raw setting information is stored for jpgs and tiffs, and want to archive settings when I copy the adjusted images to external hard drives. I see no sidecar, and cannot find the info in any other file or folder. David T Cox.

Since jpg & tiff are documented formats, there's no need for XMP sidecars...the adjustment settings are writtin to the file. Self contained, like DNG.

I just upgraded to iPhoto '11.  When it was finished many pictures do not appear.  I have a black box but the information for the picture is still there.  Some are raw and some are jpeg.  Also lost all albums.  Can anyone offer assistance?  Using iOS 10.7.5

Apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
2 - run Option #4 to rebuild the database.
    Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 - download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
2 - click on the Add Library button and select the library you want to add in the selection window..
3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the Library ➙ Rebuild Library menu option.
4 - In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
5 - Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments.  However, books, calendars, cards and slideshows will be lost. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

  • Why are my RAW images grainy on some devices after saving as JPG files?

I am new to the world of photography, so forgive me if my question is silly.
I just recently started shooting in RAW format.  After editing my photos and saving them as JPG files, I am running into a problem.  When I view the image files on my computer, my iPad, or my iPhone, they look great.  I can even zoom in super close, and the images still retain amazing quality.  However, when I set them as a desktop background, they are SUPER grainy.  Here is an example.  I just took a screen grab of each one on my computer.  Here is the first one, which is the file itself when opened in Microsoft Office 2010.
Here is the screen grab of the same exact same file when I set it as a background on my computer:
Is this an issue with processing/editing/whatever the technical term may be?  Or, is this a computer display issue?  I could almost understand if the images were different files, but they are the same file.  Can anyone help me out?   I have a friend who wants me to take some photos for her this weekend, and I'm scared to shoot in RAW format for this reason, although I do enjoy the control I have over my images in that format.  I'm also scared to see what my photos look like when printed.
    Thanks in advance!

It’s really impossible to make a judgment from screen grabs. But how are you making the desktop background; ideally you should be using the original to make a re-sized image at the native resolution of your monitor.

  • Raw Adjustments - some of them are not showing up?

I have 4 projects that some of the raw adjustments are grey (not active) in; all of my other projects are fine. The adjustments I can't adjust are: sharpening, edges, moire, radius, & de-noise. Camera is canon 5D Mark II. Any help is greatly appreciated.

thanks...at least I know why its like that now...I don't usually shoot sraw, but I did then (unfortunately). appreciate the help!

That button is not the Save As button, really, but a link to the DNG converter. To save your raw file in an image format, click the Open button instead and then save in the format of your choice in the editor. • Some notes are lost after typing them in and quitting (but 30%)!

    HI fellow apple enthusiasts,
I am running an iMac and a MacBook Air with both latest OS and an iPhone.
I have the strangest experience with notes: some notes are just lost when I type them, quit notes and open it again.
    They are just not there.
I have allready gone made because I have typed a lot of stuff in there and then its just - vanished.
I allready getting used of copy past all then quit and open again to see if its there, but its happening pretty often and I have no clue whats going on!
    thanks, alex

Try deleting the Notes .plist. Quit Notes. Test afterwards.
You need to look in your user Library/Preferences for the .plist. Hold down the option key while using the Finder "Go To Folder" command. Enter ~/Library. Delete the .plist(s) for the application.
If you prefer to make your user library permanently visible, use the Terminal command found below.
    http://osxdaily.com/2011/07/04/show-library-directory-in-mac-os-x-lion/
You might want to bookmark the command. I had to use it again after I installed 10.8.2. I have also been informed that if you drag the user library to Finder it will remain visible.
If that didn't fix the problem quit Notes, go to the user library again, and move the Notes container to your desktop (make sure it doesn't just copy).  Test. If that didn't solve the problem, put the one on your desktop back.

  • Bridge does not show my Camera Raw Adjustments in previews or thumbnails.

Bridge CS6 on my Mac is not showing my Camera Raw adjustments in a preview pane or thumbnail.
Here's how it worked until recently:
    I open a .CR2
    I make some adjustments
    I click "Done"
The thumbnail and the preview show the adjustments I made
    Now, it works like this:
    Open a .CR2
    Make adjustments
    Click "Done"
The preview and thumbnail don't show all the adjustments. I can't see the results of noise removal, but I can see a drastic change in Exposure
If I double-click the CR2 file, it opens in Camera Raw, and I see all my adjustments, including noise removal.
Here's what I've tried, but saw  no difference (I restarted Bridge every time):
    Purge Cache
    Purge Cache for Selection
Replaced Camera Raw plug-in as described here: Camera Raw 8.4 | No metadata or Camera Raw edit
(Doing so made Camera Raw disappear in Bridge, so I restored the original file)
    Reset Preferences
    Reset Standard Workspaces
All the above fixes were inspired by this thread: Re: Bridge CS6 not showing Camera Raw adjustments
Why don't I see the noise removal effect in the previews? I am sure I saw it a few weeks ago. I rely on that, to help me sort and cull photos.
    I'm hoping there's a preference toggle that I accidentally changed. It's definitely a puzzle. (Version: Bridge CS6 5.0.1.21 5.0.2.4)
Message was edited by: moonatwork after updating Bridge version. I tried all the above fixes again, after updating Bridge. It actually got worse. I tried replacing the Camera Raw plugin, which failed as before. I then restored the previous plugin, as before, but Bridge now fails to honor the preference, "Double-Click Edits Camera Raw Settings in Bridge" and instead always opens Photoshop.

Thanks, Omke. I tried updating, then applying all the same fixes to the updated version. No change.
I can attach a screenshot, but I must block out names and faces. All you'll see is my Bridge interface, not the faces in the portraits. Hope that helps.

  • Bug Report: Page # and Icon Lost After Rename

I love the new file management features in version 10.3 but I noticed some problems right away.
After renaming a document, the current page position is lost and the document opens at page 1.  This first one I renamed was a 400-page book and this was a bit annoying.  I realize this is consistent with the desktop version which does not save the page position, but it is inconsistent with the iPad behavior for opening and closing documents.  A fix or a warning should be implemented.
Also lost is the document icon, which reverts to a generic Reader logo.  This is more of a cosmetic thing.  I noticed the icon does not get restored after opening the document.  It seems necessary to scroll down to page 2 for the icon to refresh.

  • Bridge CC RAW adjustments

    Hi There,
I am using the latest version of Photoshop / Bridge CC. The software has been working perfectly but for some reason today i am having a big problem with my RAW adjustments to DNG files appearing in the bridge browser after i saved them. For example - I open a file from bridge and open in Camera Raw 8.4.1 make adjustments and select done. When i then view the adjusted images in bridge in any of the views  ESSENTIALS FILMSTRIP etc the files are not updating. I have tried purging the cache / compacting the cache with no change.
I am using a new 27 inch iMac. The only thing i have changed in my system is that i installed a  new workspace in PS but don't think would have any relation to my bridge problems.
Any help would be greatly appreciated as this issue has ruined my workflow.
    Thanks

Yes i am am on Mavericks. Embarrassingly it was just a simple selection mistake on my behalf....just a matter of selecting the chequerboard  icons, top right.
    Thanks for the help.

  • Adjustments change after reopening Aperture 3

I am working with Adobe 1998 colorspace TIFF scans from film. There have been adjustments made to exposure, saturation, levels and color. The photo looks great. I quit aperture.
Open re-open, I click on the image thumbnail. The thumbnail reflects how the photos looked as I left them from the adjustments during the last session. Unfortunately, as the image opens up, the brightness suddenly jumps one or two stops and a color cast (seems to be green) is added to the photo. Thing is, it appears that all the sliders are exactly as I've left them. This is affecting every photo I've worked upon, including those shot from digital cameras.
This is making my post-processing life ****. I cannot rely on my edits being retained open re-opening the photos!
    I am using Aperture 3.1.1

Thank you for the notes and questions. I've done the following:
1> I've removed all preferences and aperture files in ~/library and /library that pertains to aperture, including a re-install. Behavior persists
2> I've attempted to work on these TIFF files prior to the latest RAW update and after the latest RAW update. Behavior persists
3> I've created an entirely NEW library and placed two TIFF images into it. Rebuilt this library and the other two options. Behavior persists.
4> I've changed my monitor color profile to Apple RGB and Adobe RGB (1998) but this behavior persists across all color profiles.
5> Behavior occurs if ON-SCREEN PROOFING is turned ON or OFF.
6> I've upgraded to OS X 10.6.6 last night and the problem continues.
I've screen captured the actual behavior and uploaded it onto YouTube. You'll see that once I close the program and re-open, the image opens and then color shifts a moment later:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CUjbeLQOWXU
Any suggestions would be highly appreciated. The behavior is not consistent but I've found changing the tint to be the most reliable way of reproducing it. I've got some big client projects in the pipeline and I would like this headache to go away I really would rather not learn Lightroom!

  • CS4 raw support for Lumix LX5 RW2 files

It appears that the new Camera Raw Adapter 6.2 that supports the new Lumix LX5 raw files is not compatible with Photoshop CS4.  Does this mean I will never be able to process LX5 raw files with CS4?

Adobe provides backwards compatibility in CS2, CS3 and CS4 for new cameras through the FREE DNG Converter:
    Win: http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=4803
    Mac: http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=4802
There are other benefits to using DNG besides backward compatibility if you haven’t explored those:
The metadata, keywords and RAW adjustments are stored in the file – along with a processed preview of the image. This makes the file portable and keeps your metadata safe and secure.
DNG files are smaller than the original RAW file which will save you disk space and time in the long run.
DNG is an openly specified file format which means the file format isn’t going away. So if you use another RAW processor that supports DNG, you don’t have to worry about compatibility or portability of your metadata.
