Song Editing question

After I'm done editing and doing whatever else I need to do to a song how do I save it as a mp3? So I can import it either into iTunes or iDVD.

You don't need to convert it to an MP3 before you send it to iTunes, just click on File > Export to iTunes.

  • Probably a really easy song editing question

I will be making a short movie for a presentation, with some short clips of kids doing some interviews, the whole movie should not be more than 5 minutes.
I have a song in mind for it, which of course would need to be louder in spots, and some parts probably could be cut out completely .
Is this something for imovie or should I use garageband for the sound/music portion.
I know NOTHING about garageband. I just imported the song, and do know how to split at playhead. But from there its like another language.
Any advice? Dont' want to use it if its overkill.
    thanks Laura

    Hi, Laura,
You can do it in GarageBand.
You can use the Volume Curve for the variations in loudness, and delete regions you don't need by separating them with the Split function that you mentioned, and then deleting the section (region) you don't want.
    To use the Volume Curve:
Select the track; Just to the left of the Volume Knob there is a triangle pointing down; click on it - the Volume/Pan adjustment for the individual track opens; click on the light just left of "Track Volume" to activate (blue light lights up); then:
Click on the line of the Volume Bar to create a "volume automation point" (VAP).
Do this where you want to make changes (you can drag the VAP to where you want it). Create multiple points to make multiple changes.
Pull the line up (increase volume) or down (decrease).

  • Songs w/ questions marks, how to get rid of all them easily.

I have lots of songs that are somehow related to a previous libray. I have two copies of most songs, but, one copy has 'question' mark next to it when you attemp to play it, and it says it cannot locate original file, would I like to locate it. I just want to know how to easily delete/remove all the songs with questions marks.

I wouldn't call this an easy answer- but there's a method to my madness. Hear me out.
In your Music library, go to File > Show Duplicates. Sort by Song Name. You can select each one with the exclamation point next to it by holding down your Command key and clicking each one. When you've selected them all, hit Delete, and you're set. If you have selected all the right ones, it will NOT ask you if you want to move the files to the Trash.
The reason this is preferable to some other method is that your missing song might contain metadata that your newer songs do not- like rating, grouping, genre, etc. If you Show Duplicates and have your important view options chosen, you can make sure you transfer all the right info from the old song to the new one.
It's not elegant, but it works.

  • Can't Edit Question

When opening a Cap 2 file that already has slides and
quesions slides-- Selecting a particular question slide the "edit
question" button below the timeline is "flashing" and cannot be
selected. I think I have heard of this before with a
    workaround/fix. Please remind me!

Okay, I found the problem. question slide was locked, and for
some reason, this makes the "edit question" area flash on my

  • PRE 7.0 Capture, Conforming & Editing Questions

I have a new Canon Vixia HFS100 (AVCHD) and have just installed Premiere Elements 7.0.   I previously used a Standard Definition mini-tape camcorder and edited the videos with either Windows Movie Maker or Cyberlink Power Director.
Capture Questions:  The AVCHD media import option does not require a fire wire / nor does it provide device control.  (I LIKE this feature since I purchased a camcorder with flash memory cards so that I could import the media through a card reader instead of having to hook up the camcorder.)  I realize now, however that I may also want to import a small segment from a longer scene.  Should the AVCHD capture feature have device control?  If not, can I also use the HDV camcorder capture function instead?   Does this require any adjustments to my project settings?
Conforming Questions:  After I import the .mts files, PRE 7.0 automatically goes through a process that says it is 'conforming' the files.   What does 'conforming' mean?  Does this require any adjustments to my project settings?
Editing Questions:   The .mts scenes cannot be played back without SEVERE stutter.   Audio is fine, but the scenes video looks like individual stills with 10-15 second delay until the next still picture.  Although I plan to upgrade from my 1 GB RAM laptop to a much higher powered laptop within the next month, I am despearate to edit and publish my first set of videos since they are sales videos of horses I am trying to sell.  Is there anything I can do to allow me to edit the .mts files with my current 1 GB RAM system?  I would be happy to drop to a lower quality video setting just to get this batch of videos edited and produced.
Thanks in advance for your help.

    1. Is there anything I can do NOW to get this first set of videos edited / produced on my current laptop?   I would be happy to import as lower quality if necessary.
There are several threads on AVCHD conversion. Unfortunately, I do not recall the conversion utilities recommended. Not shooting AVCHD, I have to admit that I am personally clueless to what programs work, and how well. Others can likely help you there.
    2. What configuration wish list can you recommend for either a Dell laptop or desktop?   I will be editing ~40 horse sale videos per month and posting them to YouTube or producing DVDs to mail to prospective buyers.
I have just the ARTICLE for that "wishlist." Harm Millaard is the "Hardware Guru," on the PrPro forum. He gives a lot of great info. Now, it's pretty much geared for the "ultimate" NLE machine, but he does give the reasons, so one can "tone it down" to suit their budget and their needs.
    Good luck,
    Hunt
PS - if I find the threads on AVCHD conversion, I'll share those.

  • Single Edition questions!

    Hi there,
I need an updated, quick and precise answers for these Single Edition questions...!
    (1) For what I got until now Single Edition do not allow clients to publish a store like a bookstall of magazines. Is that right?
    (2) That said, every app built and sent to App Store is "unique" and has no physical connection with other apps built and sent later. Right?
    (3) Even though having Creative Cloud and being able to publish unlimited Folios... There is no way we can do a bookstall??
    (4) Even using Html5 resources?
    Thankyou all...

How does Single Edition compare to Professional and Enterprise Editions?
Professional Edition is an off-the-shelf solution designed for customers who publish frequently updated content multiple times a year and require the ability to sell single issues or content subscriptions (as supported by individual marketplaces) through app stores including the Apple App store, Amazon Kindle Fire Newsstand, and Android Marketplace.
Enterprise Edition is a custom tailored solution that meets the individual needs of professional magazine and newspaper publishers, large corporations, membership organizations and advertising holding companies. Enterprise Edition is fully extensible and can be integrated with back-end editorial workflow solutions such as K4 and WoodWing, print fulfillment services, and dynamic rich media ad platforms.
Unlike Enterprise and Professional Edition customers, Single Edition customers do NOT have access or the ability to:
    Create multi-.folio applications
Update content embedded in an application once it is published
Sell through multiple market places (Apple App store is only supported at this time)
Access foundational analytics powered by SiteCatalyst
Extend and integrate with other back end services/platforms

  • Why do I see things set differently in Advanced Actions (F9) than in each slide's Edit  Question settings?

After spending 10+ hours of trying to figure out why my first two quiz slides did work, and my next eight didn't, I found the answer as an offhand, btw, comment. The expected action was On failure, Jump to Slide x, which would jump back to the beginning of that content "section." (Quiz slides (two per section) are interspersed with sections of content slides). I finally ran across the advice to "save yourself time" by using F9 to see Advanced Interactions (which is, what, a dialog? a view?).  Turns out this was not just a time-saver but the ONLY way (that I've found yet) to see and fix my problem.  In Advanced Interactions, I could immediately see that the first two slides were set as I thought, (Jump to Slide upon failure), but the rest were set to Continue upon failure.  This, EVEN THOUGH on every question slide, in Edit view/mode on the Edit Question > Options tab, it was set for Jump to Slide upon failure.  Why did it appear that way in Edit Question > Options, but not in Advanced Interactions?  I set them all correctly in the Advanced Interactions and now the jumping is working correctly (Now I have problems with questions not being reset, but I think I have seen the answers for that in my 10+ hours of reading forums and blogs.)

  • Song with Editing Question

I am trying to figure out how to take vocals out or tune down and just, for fun, put goofy lyrics on top of the beat. I have heard numerous times people doing this on the radio, etc.
I know how to select the song in garage band and just drag it over into garage band to see the track but now what do i do to turn the vocals off or down to where you cannot hear them?
    Thanks for the help!

this really isn't a GB question, and i don't use audacity so i can't offer a step by step. you'd need to D/L it and read its docs to find those two features (invert and mono). you can find a link here:

  • Toast 7 Importing and Editing Questions

My story so far is, I got most of a short project done in iMovie 3.0.3, but one of my songs near the end is hopelessly screwed up by two seconds of phantom sound which can't be seen and can't be deleted. Through trial and error I determined the sound was on the soundtrack, not in the clip.
My question is about importing from more than one iMovie project into Toast 7, and editing the content to be actually burned to DVD.
If I put the song currently being messed up in the order it's supposed to be on one copy of the project, the audio at the end of the project will almost certainly inherit THE CURSE OF THE PHANTOM SOUND.
What if I do that in one copy, but leave it where it is in the other copy? Can I import just the good copies of each song in the project to Toast 7, even though it means importing from two different copies of the project? Or do you have to import the iMovie project as a whole?
If you have to import all of each copy of the project as a whole, will Toast 7 get all screwed up and start complaining before I even get a chance to delete the duplicates, as it would be two copies of things with the same names in slightly different order?
IF I CAN'T DO THIS, it will mean upgrading to another version of iMovie and a whole other set of problems and questions.
Thanks for anything that may help straighten me out or set me on the right path.

To phrase it another way, how much, if any, editing is possible in Toast? It might be simpler to keep both copies the same, put in however many minutes of black space would cover over the bad audio spot, then put the end of the project after that. But in Toast, can I edit the black space down to just the ten seconds I want? Or do I have to burn the whole thing "as is" and then do the editing when I dub from the DVD to the VHS tape?

  • IMovie HD (6.0.3) - Export Quality and Editing Question

Hi guys, i wanted to ask two questions. The first is that i wanted to export videos to upload onto YouTube and the best format for this seems to be the CD-ROM format that is available on the version i have, the only thing is my videos still appear low quality and pixellated even though i am editing good quality videos......i was wondering if i was doing anything wrong/or can do something better?
Also, when i am editing, can i place logos or maybe pictures onto the video e.g. with TV channels they have a logo at the corner of the screen. I also wanted to black out text on screen but i don't seem to be able to do that.
    Thanks a lot.

QuickTime has never supported anything more than "playback" of MPEG-1 formats and conversions to QuickTime formats will never include audio.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MPEG-1 a "format" created a long time ago.
iMovie 7 can import and convert most MPEG-2 formats (DVD and HD media) and include audio. It also uses QuickTime for the work.
MPEG Streamclip does allow "batch" conversions. Do them while you sleep.

  • Arrange Window Editing Questions

I've been working on a recording for a few months now and I'm at the point of doing the vocal recording and comps. This means I'm at a point that involves a lot of editing, copying, pasting and moving. There are a few problems I've run up against that I assume there are easy ways of avoiding.
First, when copying a section of a take, say a vocal for a chorus, and pasting it later in the song, I find when I trim the length of the pasted section it changes the placement of the original. Is there a way to avoid this without making the pasted segment a totally new audio file?
The second problem occurs when I have a segment of a song comp'd, say the first verse, and I'm putting together a section later in the song, like the second verse. If I try to trim an edit but I've accidently selected everything on the track it trims every file. This only happens when I'm moving quickly and haven't noticed what I've selected but it really is a pain in the *** when I have to go back a fix everything earlier in the song. Quite a time waster. I just don't see the point of that feature and wonder if it's possible to turn it off.
Lastly, when using a comp of many vocal takes put together, is there a way to delete the unused portions of a take from your drive, maybe with some short handles? I know in video using FCP you can do this sort of thing with the Media Manager. I'd like to be able to delete unused media, without having to make the comp's into one complete audio file. This way I can change my edits or crossfades at a later time.
I hope this is all clear and thanks in advance for an answers I get.

    1.
Regions to new regions - what you have are regions which alias ech other. This can be good, in your case it is not. Use opt+drag to create new in the same edit.
    2.
    cmnd+z
Use addiional tracks or folders - tracks with different phases of the comp. Also, utilise locking
    Lastly.
Optimize audio files ( usually, you will remove unused regions from your session first )

  • Song Management Question

I recently got a 1 gb model due to price limitations and I was wondering what the best way to manage my songs was. I have more than 1 gb worth of songs and I'm hoping there is a way to make multiple playlists of songs that I can switch between. Can I make 3, 1GB playlists and swap between them? How would I do that?
    -Matt

    Matt,
Yes, you could do that. Then connect your iPod and go to edit-->preferences in iTunes. Hit the iPod tab. Set it to only update selected playlists.

  • Ridiculously simple audio editing question for Garage Band

Ok, so this is really a fundamental
    question. It concerns editing technique.
In analog mixing, the editor put
the sounds to be saved in the right
places on each of several tracks --
    narration, sound effects, lip sync,
music, etc. The tracks were then
all locked together and the mixer
adjusted the volumes to either save
    or reject audio information.
A blank master received the information
and that was your final product,
in sync, sprocket by sprocket, with
    the video.
My question, then, is, how do you
do it in digital multitrack such as
Garage Band? Are you aiming to have
4 or 5 tracks all level controlled
or do you simple erase unwanted
sound, or what exactly do you do,
in post production? If you are going
to do a voice over, then you have to
do a mix at some point, not just a
cut and paste. What's the philosophy,
if you don't mind my asking?
    Thanks,
    Ed

Wow... you gave me flashbacks to a movie soundtrack I scored, with separate reels of tape all synced up and whirling away for final mixdown!
To answer your question as best I can in a paragraph or two, digital mixing is unlimited compared to analog. Whereas tape has a physical limit, you can always add another digital track (there are limitations to digital, but they are becoming harder to reach as systems become increasingly powerful). So no need to erase. Editing is also a breeze. Digital tracks are endlessly malleable, with virtually every parameter available for automation.
Sometimes you might mix down to stems or mix everything down to a stereo master (or alternative mixes) for post production. Similarly, in post, they can deal with huge numbers of digital tracks from different sources.
In terms of a professional workflow, Logic is the more typical choice over Garageband, and includes a number of features designed for scoring to picture: variable sample rates, frame rates, etc.
Gain staging in digital recording is different than in analog, and it requires a different approach to achieve excellent sounding results. But the digital workflow is so much more flexible, forgiving, and economical, that it has been the death-knell for the analog workflow. Infinite bussing, routing, mixing, comping, storing, stemming... infinite possibilities, really!

  • Edit Question Format

I repositioned the content of a Likert Scale Question to
support our template. Several wierd (Captivate 2.0) things happen.
First I centered the page numbering in a bar, when I preview,
the page numbering is not centered, in fact it is higher on the
screen. I played around with the positioning until it displayed
correctly but when I am on the edit screen it is way off.
Secondly, I moved the question and the rating scale and
buttons to the center of the screen with a highlight box behind
them. It appears that the buttons are assigned to two groups for
moving. They sometimes are attached to the scale descriptions
(agree, disagree, etc.) and sometimes they are attached to the
    question.
Anyway, once they moved with the rating scale descriptors,
when previewed the objects were all over the screen, and not
located where they were in edit mode.
Another thing I noticed was when I first selected the objects
and started nudging them with the down arrow key, they immediately
left justified to the left edge of the screen, I could not nudge to
the right. I had to drag them. I believe this is where they became
disconnected from the actual screen grid and started previewing
differently. That is edit and preview were different.
I searched the forums and found nothing like this. I hope a
service pack for Captivate appears soon. Captivate 1.0 was buggy,
but Captivate 2.0 has many undocumented features that really
detract from accomplishing the tasks at hand. Rapid authoring is
really slowing down when you have to deal with all of the issues. I
also noticed that the number of issues appearing on the forum
    appear to be increasing.
Enough venting. Has anyone experienced this issue and know
what secret part of the screen I am supposed to touch to get
Preview and Edit screens to agree?

    Hi Everett
After reading your post, it occurs to me that your Editor
area may simply be showing scroll bars. In this case, you are only
seeing a portion of it. You may correct this by selecting "Best
Fit" from the Stage Toolbar. Actually, after having re-read the
post, I see where almost all your issues could result from that.
As for the nudging bit, if you click the View menu (when
    displaying the editor) is
Snap to grid enabled? (is there a check mark next to it). If
    so, turn off grid snapping.
    Cheers... Rick

  • Load Balancing / CF Edition Question

    Hi,
I know very little about load-balancing, so please forgive
    the beginner question.
If I don't plan on using ColdFusion's ClusterCATS load
    balancing software
solution for multiple web servers, but instead am going to
    use a hardware
load balancing solution instead, can I get away with
    purchasing the ColdFusion
Standard Edition for each server(?) or would I have to
    purchase the ColdFusion
Enterprise Edition for each server to make things work?
Multiple purchases of Enterprise costs so much, I just want
    to save money if possible.
    Thanks in advance,

Yes. You will have to configure your load balancer to use
    sticky
sessions if you want to use session variables and you will
    not have some
of the scalability features of CF Enterprise, but it will
    work.
I don't see any requirements to buy Enterprise edition
