Source control with Workshop

What is the best source control solution when working with Workshop?
thanks,
Chad

We use CVSNT as server and Tortoise as Client and these can be integrated very easliy with workshop. Works well..Try out.:-)

  • Multi-authoring with source control with RH10 and RH11

    Situation:
Writer A is running RH10. Writer A opens Project A, from Visual Studio Source Control, which is connected to a Team Foundation Server.
A new employee, Writer B, has been given RH11.
Writer A can't install RH11 until after mid-June because of tight schedules (can't afford any upgrade problems).
Writer B is supposed to work on the same Help project. (We know that RoboHelp does not support checking out the same file at the same time.)
If Writer B configures her version of RH11 to work with TFS and Source Control, can she open Project A and work on it (from Source Control) without causing problems for Writer A?
    Thanks.
    Carol Levine

If Writer B is not using Source Control or it is competely separate from Writer A, possibly but I still would not be comfortable.
I think I would rather upgrade Writer A and I note your reservations. It's your call but it's like being between the devil and the deep blue sea. Neither is ideal.
So far it looks like Rh11 upgrades have been OK.

  • Working with uncompressed XFL files and source control | Learn Flash Professional CS5 & CS5.5 | Adobe TV

Use the Flash uncompressed XFL file format with a source control system to enable designers and developers to collaborate on Flash projects. Contributors can edit different assets simultaneously and see updated assets as soon as they are checked in.
    http://adobe.ly/x0GHI4

This is a great overview of sequential use of source control with the xlf format. However, typically in a team setting, team members are working at the same time. Our team has found that many of the xlf files have one or more timestamp related entries that get updated even when no functional changes have occurred. This is particularly true of DOMDocument file, which timestamps changes, marks library elements as expanded or not, and tracks a published history. All of these changes conflict with anyone who is simultaneously working on the xlf. Any tips on how to deal with these issues?

I am trying to configure source control option with LabVIEW 8.5.1 and MKS Source Integrity Client 2005 (Build 4.7.0.3465/service pack 015-01), and experiencing the following error:
    Error -2901 occurred at prefPage_Source Control.vi
    Possible reason(s):
LabVIEW:  An error occurred during source control provider initialization.
    To reproduce:
    1) Install MKS and configure it to integrate MS Visual Studio.NET/2003/2005.
    2) LabVIEW Tools->Options->SourceControl.
    3) Select 'MKS SCC Integration' from the drop down menu for 'Source Control provider name'
    4) Error 2901
I am running it on Windows XP, and I was informed that source control with MKS did not produce this error with LabVIEW 8.2.1.  Is there a service pack or a work around for this?

I am seeing this same error but when I look thru the registry I do not see the
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Mortice Kern Systems\Integrations\SCC\IDEs\National Instruments LabVIEW] entry. I have not set up a sandbox on my local machine yet.
    I am using the following:
    Labview 2010
    MKS Integrity 2007
In MKS I have enabled Microsoft Visual Studio.NET and Microsoft Visual Studio 2008.
In Labview under Tools/Source Control/Configure Source Control/Source Control Provider Name I can select MKS SCC Integration. However I get the following error "Could not locate registry information for the SCC-enabled IDE: National Instruments LabVIEW The MKS Integrity SCC Extension may not be installed correctly. Do you want to attempt to use the base SCC functionality?"
This is then followed up by this error "Could not set the registry entry SOFTWARE/Mortice Kern Systems/Integrations/SCC/IDEs=National Instruments LabVIEW The registry has not been modified properly. The SCC Extensions will not work until the entry has been set properly.
    Then I recieve the Error-2908 occured at prefPage_Source Control.vi.
Am I missing something on the install from MKS? I installed it from our local network and selected the Windows Client Install.

  • "Project is not under source control" Prompt.

    Hello,
When I create a simple dictionary type, I get a prompt "Project is not under source control", with following message:
Could not check package name. Do you want to continue ?
    Yes/NO
This started happening today as I started working on a new DC.
I am not using NWDI. My workspace contains about 10 projects, all are closed except the one I am working.
Is it ok if I ignore this message ?
    Thanks
    Srinivas

    Hi,
You can safely answer "Yes". This message means that the wizard could not ascertain whether the namespace for your package has already been reserved or not.

  • File Status and Source Control

We recently started using Source Control with one of our projects.  After opening up the project, we noticed under the Status Field, we're no longer seeing "Writeable" and it's just blank.  Please see screen shot below.
In our other project that is NOT connected to Source Control, we're able to see "Writeable" under Status Field.
Could someone please explain to me as to why the project connected to Source Control we're no longer see "Writeable" under the Status Field?  Is there a way for us to make it show up again?

They're only writeable if you check them out, as marked by the "Checked out" indicator in the first topic in the top screenshot. The blank line implies "un-Writeable."
    Good luck,

  • Dis-advantages of not using Teststand source control feature.

I'm in the process of creating a Workspace file for our project, primarily because we want to use the Teststand Deployment Utility.
Included in this process is the choice to use Teststand's source control features.
So far we have been using Microsoft's Source Safe application directly to provide source control with no problems.
But now, having tried to incorporate Teststand's source control feature, which utilises Source Safe, I find myself getting bogged down in a tedious and time consuming process which I feel will eventually cause more confusion and errors than it prevents.
If we choose not to put the files in Source Control when the Workspace file is created, do we run the risk of problems at a later stage ?
    Thanks.

    Hi Gary,
there's no "risk" as such, however by not useing some sort of source code control or configuration management, you are making a definite commitment that you will not roll back to a previous version, and you'll be doing your own backups, and making sure that if several people require access to a particular file at the same time, that only one person is going to be allowed (by agreeing to it) to modify the file.
There's nothing that says you have to go through the TestStand sequence editor and the other workspace and projects to do the source code control.
If you prefer, then use Visual Source Safe as a stand alone interface, and check out the files by hand to your local drive, and then work on them, and then check them back in once you're finished.
Of course, you have to make sure that your relative and absolute paths are correct when you do check out the files.
By going through the TestStand sequence editor to check in and check out files, it's more convenient for most people, since they don't have to dive around two environments (TestStand and VSS) to get to the point of being able to modify a file, or even find out if someone else is modifying it.
    Hope that helps.

  • Can i use subfolders with source control for developer ?

We'd like to use the repository as source control for our developer files.
We planned to use the following structure in the repository:
    - Application Container
    - Folder
    - Files
We uploaded the files in the repository.
Now if we open the file through the ron the file will open in form builder, which is pretty good.
The following thing I'de like to do is a checkout of the file ... ok ...i'm going to file - administration - checkout - the message occurs: no versionable object exists ! ... ? :-(.
So I go to file - administration - source control options .. i'd like to say forms that it has to look for the file in a subfolder of the application system .. ok.
After changing this i try again - the same message.
If I return to source control options the container entry has been changed to the application folder.
Are Subfolders not supported by the source control for developer ?
Does anybody have the same effects ?
    Background informations ?
    Thanks in advance

Sorry, for the delay. I worked for some day for another customer.
    Yes, i did.
    I'm working like this:
    - upload file with check in Folder which is under an application Folder (app - fmb )
    - then i check out the fmb in the repository
    - doubleclick in repository, which opens the form in form builder
    - change the file
    - File - Administration - check-in - connect to repository - choosing the workarea - and defining the folder (app - fmb ).
    - The file will be check-in, but directly under the folder app.

  • How to use a 3rd party source control tool with RoboHelp?

    Hello,
I would like to set our RoboHelp users up with source control.  They are using RoboHelp HTML 8.0.
Our software developers are using the AccuRev scm system; I'd like the doc team to use AccuRev, too.
Can someone direct me to RoboHelp documentation that explains how to set up and use a 3rd party scm system with RoboHelp?
    Thank you,
    Marilyn

It appears that RoboHelp 7 only sees the first SCC provider listed in the Windows Registry and ignores the rest. I was able to get RoboHelp to display the File | Version Control menu for SourceGear Vault by setting the following two Registry keys and removing keys for other SCC providers (SourceSafe, Surround SCM, and others I am evaluating).
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\SourceCodeControlProvider
         ProviderRegKey = \Software\SourceGear\Vault Client
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\SourceCodeControlProvider\InstalledSCCProviders
SourceGear Vault VS2003 Compatible Client = SOFTWARE\SourceGear\Vault Client
If I create a new RoboHelp project, save it, then select File | Version Control | Add to Version Control, RoboHelp does the following:
         - pops up the Select Version Control Provider dialog and displays SourceGear Vault Classic Client.
         - I select that, check "Make this my default selection" checkbox, and click OK.
         - RoboHelp crashes.
I'm using SourceGear Vault 5.02 under Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit. A search of the SourceGear Vault knowledge base reveals that they do not support RoboHelp because of its incorrect behavior and instability. It's so sad that RoboHelp can't work properly with industry standard SCC providers. Vault is by far the best SourceSafe replacement out there, and very affordable.

  • "Source not found" Error creating URL Data control with query parameters

    Hi,
I have a restful service for which i want to create a URL data control. I am able to create the URL data control successfully when i am not passing any parameters in the Source field. But if i am specifying the parameters in the source field like this Department=##ParamName##, something weird is happening. After giving the param string in the Source field, it asks for default param value to test the url. It tests the url successfully. After that i select XML as the data format in which i am mentioning the xsd like this . "file:///C:/..../something.xsd" . And this is when i am getting the error. "Invalid Connection. The source is not found". I am giving exactly same path for xsd which i gave while creating URL data control without query parameters. Infact i was able to create the URL data control with query parameters successfully till afternoon. after that it started giving me this error all of a sudden. Infact as soon as i was able to create a URL data contol with query parameter successfully, i took a backup of the application before moving further. But even that backup is not working now.
As far as i understand, i dont think there will be any change in xsd if query params are passed to a web service. Please correct me if i am wrong.
Just dont know what could be the issue. Please help
    Thanks

    Hi,
xsd is used for the URL service to know what the returned data structure is so it can create the ADF DC metadata

  • Managing OSB services with source Control

I have a number of services developed within an OSB and all the files .proxy , .biz , etc are stored in my source control system. This works perfectly fine when one team is working on one service.
However now we are looking at branching the service to support multiple development efforts. Which means team A could be making changes to MyService.proxy and team B could be fixing bugs in the same proxy on a different branch.
We want to periodically baseline the branches.
I cannot see any documented approach to how we can merge these changes. Comparing the files as XML is ugly and extremely high risk. Having looked in this forum I have not much discussion on this in the past.
I foresee multiple merge conflicts, overwritten changes and angst ahead.
If anybody has dealt with this and has some clever approaches I would be grateful
    -Murph

    Hi Prabu,
Thanks that is one approach to minimizing possible conflicts. The difficulty we have is that we are used to multiple teams working on multiple branches and managing merges using SCM tools and diff tools. Once you have a conflict in the OSB (specifically at a proxy level) then there is real problems.
I am toying with the idea of locking mechanisms whcih I have not used in a while to avoid losing work with conflicts.
    Cheers

  • How to integrate ADF with ADE Source control system?

We are going to set up a team with ADF developers and we're totally new to ADF environment. The developers will be working on individual and common Applications/ projects. We're planning to use ADE as our source control system. How do we set up Jdev/ADF environment so that we can use Oracle ADE source control system to sync up all the changes by the developers. any ideas and pointers to the documents are appreciated.
    Regards,

Shay, I heard from many oracle employees saying that ADE works great with JDev. Why not outside of oracle like svn? As you know there are tons of complaints about svn & cvs. Thanks.

  • Windows Explorer keeps crashing under Win 7 with RH7 and Source Control installed

This is an "informational" thread in case someone experiences the same problems. We installed RH7 on Windows 7 32-bit and accidentally, Robo Source Control was installed, too, although we do not use it. The latter loads three extensions into the shell that caused the Windows Explorer to crash on a regular basis ("Windows Explorer has stopped working"). After deinstallation of Robo Source, the problem seems to be resolved.

I would like to tell you that this problem is an issue with RH8, as well.

  • Optics experiment requires to control with a numeric control or string, but source code is having trouble

    Hello,
I'm working with my professor on an optics experiment and we are trying to control a fast steering mirror with LabVIEW.  We bought the mirror and power supply from piezosystemjena.  They provided a LabVIEW code that works.
The problem is that right now, the code can only be controlled manually.  We wish to have LabVIEW control it based on inputs received from other sources.  The LabVIEW code is controlled in either one of two ways.  A knob can be used to change the value of the voltage to move the mirror.  Also, a command can be sent to control the voltage.  In both cases, the "channel" is specified.  In our situation, we have two channels, a X and a Y channel for the axes of the mirror.
The knob is not convienient for this situation, because we wish to have a numeric control.  When I try and simply "replace" the knob with a numeric control, many things go wrong.  There are other references, property nodes, and sub VI's dependent on that the control is by a knob.
Is there any way around this and to have it as a numeric control?
The other way to control the mirror is with the "command."  This simply uses a string to send a command to the mirror and works well.  However, in order to specify the channel and voltage value, the string needs to read as, "set,0,20.5" where 0 is a channel and 20.5 is a voltage (examples). I would like labview to change the string to coincide with different values calculated by other sources and have the mirror move.  However, the code needs the string to be in "control" form.  The only way I can see to have the string function where i can change the inputs, would be to use a concatenated string, however then it becomes an indicator instead of a control.
Is there any way to get a concatenated string to function as a control, where I wouldn't have to physically type something in, but instead have LabVIEW determine the values?
I'm attaching the VI's for reference.  The VI from the company is quite complicated, so I'm hoping I won't have to alter it too much.  I'm sure there's a simple answer just using the sub VI.
Thank you all for your help.
Message Edited by Support on 11-06-2009 08:28 AM

    Hi R0B0T,
Here is some example code to get you started.
There are two vis: Control.vi and app sim.vi The “control vi” simulates your “trying to control with concatenated string.vi” and the “app sim.vi” simulates your d-drive application.
To use these vis, open both front panels. Run the Control vi and change the control values. See how the data is received by the app sim vi.
Notice in the Control.vi how I generate a value change event for the concatenate function using a value signaling property node. This is required by the receiving app to be able to detect that a change has occurred.
Also note that I passed through a stop event to close the app sim vi. The d-drive application does not have an input for this and that is a problem. To cleanly stop the d-drive app you will need to add this functionality (or live with having to stop both vis separately). You will have to read the stop value in two places – in the event structure (lower loop) and also in the while loop (upper loop). I decided at the last moment to include this functionality in the app sim vi so you could see what that might look like.
Note that in the app sim vi I have a comment about dealing with your knob vs numeric issue. This should give you an idea of what you are up against. It really isn’t too hard if you are able to understand these examples.
