Spdif in prob

hey guys, i have a problem with popping sounds coming from my sound card (Audigy, model number SB0090). and before you ask, yes, i have read the article Creative came out with that has to do with popping and cracking, and the last thing to do is disable ACPI or whatever in the bios, but i'd rather ask you guys than to reinstall windows and have it not help at all.
anyways, i have the SB0090 Audigy going into the Desktop Theater 5. DTT2500 Digital speaker system using both the Digital DIN and the Coaxle SPDIF IN. Both of those cables going into a "Y" connector that plugs into the digital jack of my sound card. My problem is that whenever I have the SPDIF cable plugged into the speaker decoder box, I hear the audio cut out, pop, crack, shizzle, whatever else you can think of. It doesn't happen on the DIN cable, and that lead me to believe that it had to do with the coaxle cable, which made me work on the actual cable itself. After much soldering and electrical contact cleaning, all I've found out is that it can't be the problem! any help would sure rock! thanks guys

Really? Sorry to bump, but no one has any ideas? I hate bumping myself, but who else knows more about Sound Blaster products than here? Thanks again

• Audigy 2 ZS spdif output prob

I've recently installed an Audigy 2 ZS into my new PC. I can get sound out through headphones - from CD and DVD. I've connected the spdif out jack to my surround sound decoder - this all worked fine on my old PC with a Turtle Beach Santa Cruz sound card. Now on the new PC with the Audigy, I can't get any sound out of the spdif connection. I've set PowerDVD to spdif output and the card setting to spdif passthru as per the instruction in this forum but still nothing.
What can I expect to get out of the spdif connection ? From what I've read, it's clear that I should be able to get Dolby Digital and that I can't get sound from games. What about CDs and mp3s etc . ?
Thanks in advance for help / info / suggestion ...

More details :
"Enable digital CD audio for this CD-ROM device" is checked

"Use SPDIF" is selected in PowerDVD

"SPDIF Passthru" is selected in Creative Audio Console

From what I've read on this forum, that ought to do the trick. I've got a stereo minijack to left-right RCA and have tried both sides. No signal that my pre-amp can recognise.
Help !?

• Another SPDIF passthrough prob

My problem is that I cannot get DVD audio to pass through the Sound card to the SPDIF jack without being converted to 2 channel audio. The sound card is converting the 5. bitstream from the DVD to 2.0 PCM which the receiver is decoding as stereo sound.
I own an MSI P6N diamond, which has a SB X-Fi chip installed on it (as the onboard audio, it's not an actual card). I think it's a basic X-Fi audio. The decoder I am using is nVidia Purevideo, and the audio options are set to SPDIF pass through. There is no option on the audio console to disable any sound card decoder, nor is there one in windows. The operating system is windows XP Pro, with SP2. The receiver is an Onkyo SR805, and the SPDIF coax is being used.
Thanks!

by the way, the receiver tells me that it is getting 2.0 PCM from the PC. I know the DVD is 5., so that isnt the problem.

• Xtreme Audio AC3 SPDIF in Prob

I had an Audigy 2 ZS that I had configured to decode AC3 5. via SPDIF. Worked great.
I bought a new box that only supported half height cards. I bought a X-Fi Xtreme Audio card, removed the bracket (How about a half height bracket guys!?), bought a Digital I/O module and I was up and running.
Unfortunately, now I can only use PCM in on the optical in. AC3 decoding seems to be broken. Any suggestions? I would really like my 5. back!

Well, I got a little closer. I download graphedit and AC3Filter.
Added the sound card from audio capture source and rendered the capture pin. Press play and got a bunch of garbled junk. For some reason AC3Filter believes the AC3 input is 2.0 audio. Anybody have any ideas on how to get the actual 5. stream?
So...
I changed the source back to PCM and set the output to 5.. That was pretty close. Now I have 5. sound coming out. Unfortunately, the audio was delayed by about second. Anybody know of a CLI that will play a graph? Hoping to get the audio in sync.

• Audigy 2 Zs platinum pro - Spdif in Prob

I ' ve got an audigy 2 zs platinum pro card and xbox hooked up to its optical in. Here is my problem:
- At boot up of xbox a stereo signal is coming out of it in dashboard menu. I can hear the sound coming out of the front speakers. When I start a game with dolby digital sound (fifa2005), no sound is heart. I unplug the optical cable and plug it rigth back. It says "dolby digital" on pc' s screen, and dolby digital sound begins (coming out of all speakers)
I guess that audigy accepts the first sound format coming from the optical in ( stereo in this case), and when the signal changes to dolby digital audigy does not recognize it. So when it is unplugged and plugged again, it recognizes that the format is dolby digital.
Is there anyway that Audigy looks to check if the format is same and changes it accordingly?

I have EXACTLY the same proble. There is not only no signal in, I cant hear anything monitored at all when using Cubase or in fact any other sound application. The only sound I can hear is when I plug my speakers/headphones straight into the back of the sound card. I checked my 'Digital Output Only' setting as previously suggested (it wasn't checked) - still no joy.
Somebody please help....

• Will bass management and 44kHz work in the next release for X

title says it all. hard to seriously use XFi cards for serious HT or music with no bass management for analog out and forced sample conversion (prob not even using the xfi's hw to do it well) over spdif (and prob analog too, but no way to verify that).

• Joe Meek Twin Q Pre-Amp and Elite Pro SPDIF/Digital input probs

Hi. I'm wondering if anyone can help. I've just purchased a Joe Meek Twin Q Pre-Amp and I specifically bought it for a new Rode mic I've just got and it needed phantom power. I also paid a little extra for the digital 'outs', thinking I could take an optic or SPDIF out into the Elite Pro breakout box. The problem is, is that digital is not recognised at all - in Audio Codes it states it's an invalid signal. However, SPDIF is recognised saying it's a stereo signal at 48,000hz, but is only being 'heard' in my right channel.
I have tried the line out into Line In 3, and there's no problem there. Joe Meek representative said it should be working as long as the bit match is the same in both units, which as far as I know is. Am I missing something here? I'm awaiting Creative to get back as it seems to me to be a breakout-box hardware problem, but I could be missing something?
Does anyone have any experience and/or advice/info?
Thanks in advance

Well, since you're not getting response, let me see what I can do.
I think you're saying the optical connection isn't working, but the coax (SPDIF) one is working, and then you're only getting the mic signal on one channel. The second part is easy to explain, but I never remember the solution suggestions. TOSLink/SPDIF, essentially, are stereo signals, and your preamp is simply putting its channel 1 signal on one side and its channel 2 signal on the other. If you had a second mic connected to the other connector, you'd have one mic on the left channel and the other on the right channel. Basically, you need to treat it as a mono signal and then either pan it into the stereo field, or just duplicate (convert) it to stereo. I'm sure there are ways, but someone else needs to join in with some experience. I'm not sure, but it seems to me if, say, you've put the mic in the channel 1 connector, you could take the channel 1 (analog) output and patch it into the channel 2 line input, and your digital outputs would probably get you the mic signal on both sides.
On both devices, the TOSLink/SPDIF signals are, to the best of my understanding, basically the same thing in two forms. If one is working, than the other should be working too. That suggests to me either hardware brokenness in the preamp's optical out, or the Elite Pro's optical in. or a problem with the optical cable. CL's optical outs can be checked to see if they are putting out red light: if they aren't, there's a problem. That probably applies to the preamp, in this case. You can simply connect the Elite Pro's optical output to its optical input and record something from the digital input device. If that works, the cable and the digital input are probably OK, and it most likely the preamp's digital output is broken (although it could be a strange compatibility issue). If it fails, then it's most likely either a bad cable, or the Elite Pro's optical input is broken. Trying another cable, or some other piece of gear you have that outputs optical, ought to sort out which it is.

• XtremeGamer spdif prob

I just bought a new x-fi, and I'm pretty happy overall besides for one problem. If I try to set my dvd decoder program to use spdif, there is no sound. (I've used 3 different programs btw.) Also, I don't have any decoder tabs on my panel. Now I've searched a bit, and this seems to happen with the dell oem cards, but I just bought mine from best buy. Its not the dell oem kind. This should be able to have surround dvd's played on it.
Any Ideas as to why this isn't working?
Thanks!

The new X-Fi do not have built in decoder and no DVD-Audio player, according to Creative's site you can download PowerDVD with Dolby and DTS decoding.

• Mega 180 spdif out w/ Linux ALSA

Has anyone managed to get the spdif output working under Linux ALSA? I've got analog out working no prob, but I'm getting nothing out on optical. A working .asoundrc file would be much appreciated.
Thanks,
Roman

Just a follow up - ALSA does *NOT* currently work on the Mega 180 as it is not supported by the nvidia drivers.
OSS however does work as of the 0292 release and is pretty much fully implemented. Hopefully the next set of drivers will support ALSA.
Cheers,
Roman
ALSA has worked for me since 2.6.8, but I don't use the nvidia binary Nforce2 drivers (net, sound etc.)

• Ac3 encoded video, SPDIF but my receiver switches to ste

Hi all,
I've got this problem, I got a video witch says to have ac3 encoded audio. Once tested with Gspot codec information that seemed to be true. When I run the video an icon appears of Dolby digital bit stream out but my external receiver switches to digital stereo in stead of switching to 5. surround sound witch the receiver normally does when I run ac3 encoded files....
All the settings are set to SPDIF pass trough. Other ac3 encoded files give no problem, perfect 5. surround sound...
So whats wrong here... Is the video file a faker or what
Greetings and thanks in advance, Thomas Voortman

It says the following:
Audio:
Bit rate: 224 kbps
Audio format: AC-3 ACM decompressor
Off course it gives more info, but i guess that isn't necessary?
I already checked this summary but didn't knew how to change this settings. I guess that the audio format is the prob? Is it possible to change it's
Thanks in advance.

• Spdif out on windvd = no sound ! X

was trying to whatch a dvd the other night after burning it only to fin i get no sound !
windvd is set as per the instructions to pass the siganl to my soundcard (x fi plat) and the sound cards set to decode the signal but i get nothing at all, th eonly way i get sound is if i set windvd to analogue aka plain old stereo stanger still is if i play the vobs for the dvd of my hdd the sound works fine !

Not sure why your running into a prob. I just tested WinDVD here and am getting spdif out to SC just fine. Only issue I have is that allowing WinDVD to do the audio on a DTS disc the volume is louder than if spdif and let x-fi decode it. Any chance you have the decoder set backward for the card, ie set to Dolby bitstream out instead of built-in decoder? I know you said you had it right & sounds like you know what your doing but thats the only thing I can think of. Which version of WinDVD are you using?

• Audigy 2 ZS Platinum + SPDIF out + GTA San Andr

Hi,
I've recently bought an Audigy 2 ZS Platinum and I must say I'm very pleased with it.
I'm using an external audio receiver on witch I can only connect coaxial or optical. I've read the thread about digital connections and I know that its impossible to get surround sound with SPDIF in a game because it doesn't use an audio player (I have an ac3 encoder).
The problem is that GTA San Andreas (witch worked perfectly with my older sound cart (stereo)) plays his sounds as surround sound EAX, witch you all know is useless with SPDIF. The result is surround sound out of my front speakers only. So I'm missing about 70% of all the sounds (No voices, engine sounds, etc)
When I looked in the audio settings in the game I noticed that its impossible to change any settings at all (stereo/surround, EAX, Dolby, etc)...
I've tried many things, like setting my computer to stereo (sound and audio devices). I have even tried to use the analogue socket (only the stereo connection) but nothing seems to work...
Btw, I noticed another weird thing, in the THX console I can't select what speaker settings I have witch I could on an previous install (I had some di'ver probs.) In the console for the speaker settings the same problem but there I can select the option: "synchronise with configuration screen". But when I change the speaker settings there it changes back to 5. at start up....
Who knows a solution to this problem?
Thanks in advance, Thomas Voortman (Netherlands)

You did not install yout drivers correctly.
. Download the latest drivers from the Audigy 4 Pro section.
2. Right click on the downloaded file and select to extract it somewhere.
3. Go within the Folder, and find Drivers subfolder.
4. There should be an executable there. Run it.
5. Select to uninstall your current drivers, and make sure the option "Remove Creative shared files ..." is selected.
6. Restart and install the new driver using the same executable, while also checking the "Overwrite shared files" is selected!
Now you shouldn't have problems with the THX Console. I also had the smae problems and the Enviroments were also missing form the EAX Console. It was because I didn't select that overwrite option.

• [GeForceFX] Problem updating drivers and playback probs

I have an NVidia FX5200 personal cinema and have constantly had problems udating drivers (crashes or b&w display) - last time I tried the system crashed and no amount of fiddling would allow me to go back so I had to re-install windows and ended up with new install of XP Pro SP2 on reformatted partition - this installed its own FX5200 MSoft driver (something like 5.6) but didn't install any software or capture drivers so I re-installed the drivers from the disk - this ioverwrote with 4.n version drivers. When I tried to update to the latest drivers using MSI live update my pc crashed on start as before with a blue screen message OX0000007E and I was unable to sort this out so ended up re-installing windows AGAIN and starting from scratch once more.
This time I thought I had it sorted and gradually updated the drivers dowloading and updating each of the 7 available and this time each one seemed stable... until I reached the latest 7772 when I got the same blue screen message - fortunately this time I was able to roll back to 6681, which unless 77 is essential, I'm jappy to stick with.
However I am having problems playing avis and mpeg files direct from my hard disk - they both stop briefly, sound stutters or they jerk when playing although they play fine if I burn them to cd and play from the dvd drive.
Any ideas about why I am not able to upgrade drivers successfully and any ideas about why I'm getting playback probs? All help appreciated.
Thanks

Hi Shrek
I just listed my first post. I bought a dell Dimension XPS T500 in 999. It used a CT4780 that fed a good Altec Lansing speaker system. When I built my present budget PC I used the old CT4780 card. Because I?am using XP Pro I loaded Li'veDri'veUni-Pack.exe driver (released 280203). This worked fine.
But I do not have the SPDIF working as yet. My MSI? MS-6533XG?Motherboard does have?header pins for SPDIF but?so far I haven't used them. I am looking for drivers to use if I can get the SPDIF connected.
Do you have any info?on my needs?

• PowerDVD 9 OEM 6CH and DTS on SPDIF

With X_Fi Elite Pro? model SBO55A and the downloaded PowerDVD 9 OEM 6CH, I can play a DVD with 5. DD no problems.
If I select SPDIF output in PowerDVD (which sends DD encoded over SPDIF), I can receive and decode it in my Audigy 2ZS PCMCIA card (which has onboard DD and DTS decoding).
However, only DD is available (over SPDIF out) using PowereDVD 9 OEM 6CH special version.
So it looks like the claim that PowereDVD 9 provides both DD and DTS is very restricti've.
Anybody else noticed this?

on your sub-woffer on the back top left. there is a switch with three settings as follows :-
6. - 7.
direct
5. - 7.
what you need to do is push the switch to direct. then it will work, BUT delete power dvd 5 and get win dvd 6, open windvd and open side panel. on the side panel click on the spanner icon to goto pref's select audio tab and check mark the analogue out and external decoder. on the card pref's set to internal decode. that's it, power dvd is out even ver. 6 as well, windvd7 is not that great. get windvd6 only it's what i use and no probs.

• SPDIF on AWE64 Gold not work

Have an old, second-hand, networked PC still running 98SE and it has an AWE64 Gold sound card. Elderly, I know, but never have been able to get the digital output to work. Analogue is fine. Fed it into numerous external devices, external D/A converter, minidisc, stand-alone CD recorder and the silence is deafening! I think the card has the correct driver - device manager shows it as Creative AWE64 Gold 6-bit Audio (SB6 compatible) version 4.37.00.998, but is there something additional I need to enable the digital output? I`m thinking in terms of some sort of "control panel" or tools that another of my PC`s has to enable its Trust sound card`s digital output to work. And before anyone asks.....yes, the sub-panel IS plugged in!!

I also came across this problem some time ago. What helped me (not sure how) was removing the spdif cable from the pc and switching off. I then restarted with the cable plugged in and holy moly there was sound! Restarted though and it was off again. I ran the basic checks: ensured mute was off on spdif channel ; was selected as an input etc... Had to re-install all drivers manually and it worked again. If that doesn't work - What I can suggest is using another output from your mackie to determine where the problem lies. Try a line-out to rule out master output problems with the mixer. Ensure phantom power is on for the mic. Try another input signal into the sound card, one you know is working - might be a prob with spdif channel. Try another cable (again). Bypass converter completely . Might be a problem with your mixer's headphone cue? Route the signal to the master and check master output (If you are ONLY using headphones) then check vu reading depending on what mackie you are running?) Try a good D/I Box too... This may or may not be of any help at all but its a few ideas that sprung to mind. I know the frustration of things working today, and not tomorrow!
