Special character - Bullet point

I have a string l_str type STRING value 'abc'
I want to concatenate the special character bullet (like in MS word) in front of the string. How do I represent the bullet character? Any sample code?

Hi,
You can concatenate the special characters in Bullet form.
For this purpose goto se11Table -ICONExecute it and you can see all the icons .
From there you can take the icon name and goto SE11- Type Pools ICON, there you can also see the Symbols defination for the Icons.
You can take the symbols and concatenate it with the string.
Hope it helps you.
Thanks

  • SM Special Character Displays as Bullet

    Hello,
I'm using a form in Acrobat Standard 7.0 - OSX.
When using the special character SM (Service Mark in superscript) it displays as a bullet. The TM which is also a superscript works fine.
Can you think of any reason why?
    Thanks

For the record there was a Acrobat Standard for Mac.
When acrobat 6 came out, there was a standard and pro. But the standard version did nothing more than Mac's own PDF creation capability. Ther were such howls of Protest that when Acrobat 7 came out, there was no longer a  standard version. Please check you acrobat history. Standard for Mac could even create forms. then only thing it could do was create pdf's
and also the was a standard and pro version of 5 also. The proversion had the print press capabilities built in. the standard version had the ability to create forms.  And I think 5.05a was the best version ever put out. You could even create PDF E-Books.

  • Special character display issue

    Hi,
I've been struggling with this issue for some time now and
have not yet found a solution. Basically I am trying to display the
letter 'á' in bold within a dynamic text field, where the text
is parsed from some internal script.
There is nothing wrong with the script as it works for other
special characters. I have embedded the correct glyphs, and even
    tried all glyphs.
I have tried several methods of encoding the character in the
scipt such as Unicode Escape, Numeric Entity and URL encoding; no
luck with either. For other special characters I have simply
embedded the glyph and typed the special character into my script
using the charmap instructions and they have worked fine but for
some reason when I want to make it bold it just wont display. The
method I've used to embolden the text is show below, please note
this has worked fine for other characters and the bold version of
the font contains the glyph in the charmap.
    "<font face=\"AvantGarde LT
    Bold\">Lávese</font>"
This results in: Lvese (in bold) skipping the á
I'm starting to wonder if this is a problem with the software
itself. If anyone has any suggestions, I'd love to give them a go.
Thanks in advance for any assistance
P.S. my e-mail is [email protected]

Pl identify which exact version of 10g, along with the database characterset.
Going by what you have stated, your database characterset is most likely WE8ISO8859P1, which does not recognize the single quote (or apostrophe) or the bullet point.
You will need to use a characterset that supports these characters - Oracle recommends AL32UTF8
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/server.102/b14225/ch6unicode.htm
If you can recreate this database, use AL32UTF8 then perform your conversion.

  • Create a diamond bullet point?

I need to create a bulleted list in Adobe Muse. No problem. However, now my client wants the bullet points to be diamond shaped. I can't figure out an easy way to do this. I tried creating the image in Photoshop and inserting it as text, but it was so small... it looked too bitmappy. Is there a special key code I can use?
Or can I create a square using the rectangle tool and rotate it? I tried, but couldn't figure out how to rotate it.
    Thanks!
    julie

    Copy and paste this character

It should paste as a diamond as long as the assigned font contains a diamond glyph.
How I got to this character was using the Apple "Keyboard and Character Viewers". It's a very handy way to find, and get to unusual characters.

  • How can I use bullet points on the ipad keyboard?

When writing Notes, on my iPhone, there is a key for bullet points on the keyboard.  This doesn't seem to exist on the iPad3 keyboard and just wondered if there is any other way to use bullet points on iPad. They are both set to the English UK keyboard.
    Thanks.

There are many other keyboard keys that are hidden under the standard virtual keyboard keys. They will vary from keyboard to keyboard based on your language settings but this article will point you in the right direction.

  • Error in XSLT Mapping when special character is passed through

    Hi Experts,
We have used the XSLT mapping. When ever any special character like é is being passed, then the below mentioned error is displayed in the Integration engine.
Error occurred during XSLT mapping of the application
It is working fine with normal case if we are not sending any special character.
I am not sure whether the problem exists in XSLT mapping or the issue with the legacy system?
Early response would be highly appreciated and points will be awarded.

  • Undesired bullet pointed text automatically upon creating a new text box

Hi there! Due to the snow I'm working from home today but I have a little problem back in work that would be nice to get some help on before i go back hopefully tomorrow so i can continue at full speed!
I'm using Mac OS X (can't remember which version from the top of my head but something quite new!), and InDesign CS3. Basically, every time i create a new text box, or place an excel file into the document (having to do a lot of that at the moment, creating a price guide), it is in bullet point form, and although it's quite easy to go and turn it back off, with me having to do this quite a lot it's getting somewhat frustrating. It does it every single time i create a new text box even if i have turned it off for the previous one
I'm pretty sure this is going to be one of those "oh, you just need to..." problems with a really simple answer...i hope so anyway!
    Cheers dears!
    Linz

Thanks guys, i now seem to have a related problem at home. Here i am using CS2 but working on the same document as at work. I have made sure nothing is selected and set my character and paragraph styles to basic, and hey presto, when i create a text box, all is well. However, when i create a table, and i type in a cell, the bullets return! I have just discovered that turning them off in CS2 doesn't seem to be as simple as CS3 - so firstly - how do i do that?! And secondly - any ideas why it is happening but only in tables?!

  • Reg. Special Character at end of each line

    Hello Experts,
I have an internal table of type string which has to be uploaded into the directories
Each line has to be ended with a comma and for which I concatenated the work area and ',' before appending to the internal table.  This is fine till this point.
After downloading the file from the directory, when opened with a notepad, i could see a special character (LINE FEED rectangular box) at the end of each line.
I couldn't understand why this character got appended at the end of each record.  Pl suggest me on how i can overcome this special character.
    Thanks

    Hi,
I am developing one HRMS report for sending salaries to bank. Bank has given one format, there should be 24 spaces at the end of each line in the report. But I am not getting any spaces in the report at the end of line. I have tried soo many ways to get that, but I unable to get spaces. If I put any character it is coming, but if I put space that is not coming. For the line that is set the height of the Repeating Frame long enough to have the blank space. Vertical Elasticity should be expand.
Also you can try by setting the property *"Vert. Space between frames"* for the Repeating frame.
    Hope this helps.

  • Replacing a special character in a string with another string

    Hi
I need to replace a special character in a string with another string.
Say there is a string -  "abc's def's are alphabets"
and i need to replace all the ' (apostrophe) with &apos& ..which should look like as below
    "abc&apos&s def&apos&s are alphabets" .
Kindly let me know how this requirement can be met.

    REPLACE
    Syntax Forms
    Pattern-based replacement
    1. REPLACE [{FIRST OCCURRENCE}|{ALL OCCURRENCES} OF]
    pattern
              IN [section_of] dobj WITH new
              [IN {BYTE|CHARACTER} MODE]
              [{RESPECTING|IGNORING} CASE]
              [REPLACEMENT COUNT rcnt]
              { {[REPLACEMENT OFFSET roff]
                 [REPLACEMENT LENGTH rlen]}
              | [RESULTS result_tab|result_wa] }.
    Position-based replacement
    2. REPLACE SECTION [OFFSET off] [LENGTH len] OF dobj WITH new
                      [IN {BYTE|CHARACTER} MODE].
    Effect
This statement replaces characters or bytes of the variable dobj by characters or bytes of the data object new. Here, position-based and pattern-based replacement are possible.
When the replacement is executed, an interim result without a length limit is implicitly generated and the interim result is transferred to the data object dobj. If the length of the interim result is longer than the length of dobj, the data is cut off on the right in the case of data objects of fixed length. If the length of the interim result is shorter than the length of dobj, data objects of fixed length are filled to the right with blanks or hexadecimal zeroes. Data objects of variable length are adjusted. If data is cut off to the right when the interim result is assigned, sy-subrc is set to 2.
In the case of character string processing, the closing spaces are taken into account for data objects dobj of fixed length; they are not taken into account in the case of new.
    System fields
    sy-subrc Meaning
0 The specified section or subsequence was replaced by the content of new and the result is available in full in dobj.
2 The specified section or subsequence was replaced in dobj by the contents of new and the result of the replacement was cut off to the right.
4 The subsequence in sub_string was not found in dobj in the pattern-based search.
8 The data objects sub_string and new contain double-byte characters that cannot be interpreted.
    Note
These forms of the statement REPLACE replace the following obsolete form:
    REPLACE sub_string WITH
    Syntax
REPLACE sub_string WITH new INTO dobj
            [IN {BYTE|CHARACTER} MODE]
            [LENGTH len].
    Extras:
    1. ... IN {BYTE|CHARACTER} MODE
    2. ... LENGTH len
    Effect
This statement searches through a byte string or character string dobj for the subsequence specified in sub_string and replaces the first byte or character string in dobj that matches sub_string with the contents of the data object new.
The memory areas of sub_string and new must not overlap, otherwise the result is undefined. If sub_string is an empty string, the point before the first character or byte of the search area is found and the content of new is inserted before the first character.
During character string processing, the closing blank is considered for data objects dobj, sub_string and new of type c, d, n or t.
    System Fields
    sy-subrc Meaning
0 The subsequence in sub_string was replaced in the target field dobj with the content of new.
4 The subsequence in sub_string could not be replaced in the target field dobj with the contents of new.
    Note
This variant of the statement REPLACE will be replaced, beginning with Release 6.10, with a new variant.
    Addition 1
    ... IN {BYTE|CHARACTER} MODE
    Effect
The optional addition IN {BYTE|CHARACTER} MODE determines whether byte or character string processing will be executed. If the addition is not specified, character string processing is executed. Depending on the processing type, the data objects sub_string, new, and dobj must be byte or character type.
    Addition 2
    ... LENGTH len
    Effect
If the addition LENGTH is not specified, all the data objects involved are evaluated in their entire length. If the addition LENGTH is specified, only the first len bytes or characters of sub_string are used for the search. For len, a data object of the type i is expected.
If the length of the interim result is longer than the length of dobj, data objects of fixed length will be cut off to the right. If the length of the interim result is shorter than the length of dobj, data objects of fixed length are filled to the right with blanks or with hexadecimal 0. Data objects of variable length are adapted.
    Example
After the replacements, text1 contains the complete content "I should know that you know", while text2 has the cut-off content "I should know that".
DATA:   text1      TYPE string       VALUE 'I know you know',
text2(18)  TYPE c LENGTH 18  VALUE 'I know you know',
            sub_string TYPE string       VALUE 'know',
new        TYPE string       VALUE 'should know that'.
REPLACE sub_string WITH new INTO text1.
REPLACE sub_string WITH new INTO text2.

  • Grep styles and bullet points

Is there a way of using GREP styles to insert bullet points on text after a specific heading has been detected?
I am working on a brochure where many of the pages will have a features section, so am reluctant to manually overide paragraph styles. The "FEATURES:" heading will always stay the same, the text within the bullet points will change.
At the moment I have the following layout...
    FEATURES:
    test1
    test2
    test3
    test4
What I am hoping to achieve is this...
    FEATURES:
    test1
    test2
    test3
    test4
I haven't used GREP styles before but from looking round it seems the most obvious feature to use, so if anyone has an alternate solution that'd be great.

Header should be a paragraph style on it's own.
Use a hard return not a soft return for a new paragraph http://indesignsecrets.com/dos-and-donts-of-text-in-indesign.php
Bullet should be a separate paragraph style.
Apply that style to only bullets
Set a Character Style for your Bullets, which can be applied through the Bullet paragraph style.

  • How to create bullet points in BoilerPlate 'Text' item...

    Hi,
I have a requirement of generating a form. In that form there is a static section which contains bullet points. Is there a way to create bullet point in oracle reports.
I am using paper layout. As output is required in PDF format.
    Thanks

    Hi Arshad
You may try this trick to introduce bullet character in Reports on Windows platform:
    For Boilerplates:
In Application such as Wordpad, hold Alt and press 0149 on numeric pad. This will insert a bullet mark in the editor. Copy this text and paste it in Reports Paper Layout.
    For Fields:
Create a formula column (Character type) in the same group as the column that you need to bullet. Return the following result:
    return ' ' || :<your_column>;
All the values based on this Formula column will display a Bullet mark.
    Hope this helps.
p.s. character 149 is bullet character in most fonts.

  • How to handle weird characters in form fields (like bullet points from Word docs)

    hi there
lots of my users copy and paste from MS Word documents into a
    text area
my app takes that form.textarea data and inserts it in a
    MYSQL db.
when we output that cell from the db, we often find there are
? [question marks] where there once were special characters in the
    Word doc text.
it seems that bullet points in word docs are the worst
    offenders.
each time i spot a new one i try to find out the chr() number
for it and make a substitiution before the text is stored in the
db, but its a bit hit and miss (relies on me spotting it) and its v
    time consuming
ive tried using functions safetext and demoronize - but they
dont seem to do what i need
im sure im not the first person to run into this - any
    suggestions anyone?
thanks very much indeed for any help you can give.
    kind regards
    Nick

    Thanks Paul and Azadi
Paul - when you say "change it to unicode" do you mean the
page or a setting in the db? forgive me if i'm being stupid but
this is all new territory to me. Thank you ever so much for your
help - does sound logical what you say :)
Azadi - thanks very much for this (I'm pressuming that
there's a charge for this udf) so i'll try to implement Paul's
solution and if I can't do that I'll buy the the udf - thanks very
much indeed for your help, really is much apprecaited.
    kind regards

  • Can i add a special character i.e. arrows into a movie clip?

in imovie under edit it says special characters..i want to add some arrows to a video but not sure if  can..anyone know? thanks

you could 'abuse' a special character as ➔ ↪ ➪ ☞ to create a 'pointer' although iM has no free positionable 'Text' feature.
it's much easier to use the 'transparent png'-method discribed here, incl. some free pointers (and circles)  in many colors:

  • Can't create database link when password has special character

I'm trying to execute the following statement within sqlplus
create database link alpha connect to scott identified by tiger! using 'db_alpha'
note that the password for the account has an exclamation point in it. the command fails. I've tried placing the password in quotes (') and double-quotes ("). The double-quotes work, but then the link fails to function properly.
We are required to have a special character in our passwords... so how do I get that special character into the password for the database link?
    Thanks in advance,
    Darren

for some weird reason, I can't post the reply I want. every time I try, the forum hangs and doesn't save the message. give me a sec...
I have put the password within double quotes... so I'm starting to think the problem is something else. I've been reading other posts regarding creating database links and I've obtained limited results. Here's what I've done, and the results I'm getting.
(names changed to protect the innocent)
My oracle database is on SYSA. I'm on SYSB. I set my TWO_TASK=SYSA and just use sqlplus to connect as user1.
I want to run a command on user2's tables. Normally I would just grant read access to user1 on user2's tables and use a command like
nert spaces to get this to save (weird forum bug here, I can't delete the text to the left)
    SQL> sel{color:black}{color}ect * fr{color:black}{color}om u{color:black}{color}s{color:black}{color}e{color:black}{color}r{color:black}{color}2{color:black}{color}.{color:black}{color}m{color:black}{color}y{color:black}{color}_{color:black}{color}t{color:black}{color}a{color:black}{color}b{color:black}{color}l{color:black}{color}e{color:black}{color};
However, user2 is for test data and those tables get dropped and recreated often and it is cumbersome to try to remind everyone to recreate the grants. So I can't trust that user1 will have access to user2's tables. So my goal with the database link is to create a private (for user1 only) database link and access the tables that way, that way I bypass the grant issue. This works out better for me because we only change that password every 2 months. I just recreate the database link once every two months, rather than recreate grants multiple times every week. Well, that's the theory anyway.
Back to creating the database link, I thought my issue was the special character in the password because if I remove the exclamation point everyting works (except that the password is invalid). Below is what it looks like when I do this...
    Attempt #1:
    SQL> create database link BLAH connect to user2 identified by "tiger" using 'BLAH';
    Database link created
    SQL> sel{color:black}{color}ect * fr{color:black}{color}om my{color:black}{color}_{color:black}{color}table{color:black}{color}@{color:black}{color}BLAH;
    sel{color:black}{color}ect * fr{color:black}{color}om my{color:black}{color}_{color:black}{color}ta{color:black}{color}ble{color:black}{color}@{color:black}{color}BLAH
    ERROR at line 1:
    ORA-01017: invalid username/password; logon denied
    ORA-02063: preceding line from BLAH
So that looks like it's just a password issue. If I put in the correct password... the error changes to this...
    Attempt #2:
    SQL> create database link BLAH connect to user2 identified by "tiger!" using 'BLAH';
    Database link created
    SQL> sel{color:black}{color}ect {color:black}{color}* fr{color:black}{color}om my{color:black}{color}_{color:black}{color}table{color:black}{color}@BLAH;
    sel{color:black}{color}ect * fr{color:black}{color}om my{color:black}{color}_ta{color:black}{color}ble{color:black}{color}@BLAH
    ERROR at line 1:
ORA-02085: database link BLAH.AAA.BB.CCC.DDD connects to
    DEVDB.AAA.BB.CCC.DDD
To me, that doesn't make sense. If the link isn't working... how did it get the "invalid username/password" in Attempt #1?
Anyway, in perusing other forum posts, one post said to put in the full text from the tnsnames.ora file instead of the alias. So I do a little cut/paste and try this...
    Attempt #3:
SQL> create database link BLAH connect to user2 identified by "tiger!" using
    2 '(DESCRIPTION = (ADDRESS_LIST = (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = server001.aaa.bb.ccc.ddd)(PORT = 9999)))
    3 (CONNECT_DATA = (SERVICE_NAME = devdb)))';
    Database link created.
    SQL> sel{color:black}{color}ect {color:black}{color}* fro{color:black}{color}m my{color:black}{color}_{color:black}{color}tab{color:black}{color}le{color:black}{color}@BLAH;
    sel{color:black}{color}ect {color:black}{color}* fr{color:black}{color}om {color:black}{color}my_{color:black}{color}tab{color:black}{color}le@B{color:black}{color}LAH
    ERROR at line 1:
ORA-02085: database link BLAH.AAA.BB.CCC.DDD connects to
    DEVDB.AAA.BB.CCC.DDD
Any ideas on what I'm doing wrong?
