Specify row height in cell style

Sometimes you have rows in a table that need to be a certain height. It would be great to be able to specify the height in a cell style.
Along the same line : add aid:crowheight attribute for tables in XML

Are you looking for the size like this (it appears when you have a row selected within the table):

  • How do you have the bottom stroke of a table show up using Table Styles and Cell Styles only?

    I am using InDesign CS6, and I want to create a Table Style that has the bottom stroke show up, but does not have a table border, such as:
    However, whenever I try to change the Table or Cell strokes so that the last stroke shows up, I get the entire table border, or some strange combination of borders:
    Does anyone have any insight on how I can get the bottom stroke to show up while preserving my other stroke properties? Since I work with long documents, it's necessary to be able to control all of my tables through Table Styles and Cell Styles, and not by manually changing each and every table with the Stroke palette.
    For reference, here are the my current Table Style properties and the resulting table:

    Michael Murphy is the InDesign style-meister. He wrote "Adobe InDesign Styles" for Adobe Press, and did a great Lynda.com title on InDesign styling. Here's what he says in the book:
    "As mentioned at the beginning of this chapter, with all the power of table and cell styles, it is important to understand not only how they work and what they can do for you, but also to understand their limitations.
    "Two formatting features missing in table and cell styles have already been discussed: You will always have to set the column width and row height of cells when applying a table style for the first time, and you will always have to convert body rows to header and/or footer rows every time you apply a table style for first time or update the table's data....
    "But there's another kind of limitation that's important to keep in mind as you are designing tables: It is very easy to design a table that cannot be completely defined by a table style. In many cases, you'll need to define an extra cell style or two that lets you complete for formatting. [my emphasis]."
    So I think that's what you have to do: Apply another cell style on top of the cells at the bottom of the table after applying the table style.

  • Is it possible to set the cell height in a cell style?

    In the attached screenshot, the cell height is set to exactly 0.125. I put my cursor in the cell, then opened the cell styles panel and created a new cell style based on this cell. But when I apply the cell style to other cells, it does not apply the cell height. There were no overrides or other styles applied to the other cells. I also opened up the cell style definition from the cell styles panel, but don't see anywhere to set the cell height there either. Is there another way to do this that I am missing?

    It is possible - and it's fairly simple.
    To set the row height as part of the cell style, all you have to do is use the cell inset above and below. As long as you set the style as 'At least' then this works perfectly well for having predefined cell styles.
    I have been using this successfully for large financial documents for some time without any hitches. For example I use it to get separation between sections within the tables by having a style with extra space above, and similarly for totals rows at the bottom of the table. It can of course also apply different stroke styles at the same time. Having the style set as 'At Least' also allows for multiple line entries to still have the correct spacing above and below.
    So if you spend a bit of time calculating required heights and setting up your styles, then apply a keyboard shortcut to each style, you can then save a whole lot of time when formatting the document.
    I've just finished nearly 400 pages of financials using this method over the past couple of days!
    This solution may not suit your sitation, but if you have a lot of tables to get through it's got to be worth giving it a try.

  • Min. row height table style

    A new table in Indesign is by default set with a minimum row height of 1.058 mm. This 'minimum' feature is also visible in a table style (the 'exact' feature is not for some reason). When I import a table from Word for example, it's row height might be different. For example a certain row had a height of 25 mm. So I applied the cell style to it where I set the 'min' rowheight to 1.058 mm. However, the row height still remains 25 mm. This doesn't only happen to imported tables. I've inserted a new table in indesign. This had a row height of 1.058 by default. Then I dragged a row heigher to 40 mm for example. Then I applied the cell style again with 'min' set to 1.058. The row height should turn to 1.058 but it remains 40 mm. Why can't I apply a rowheight in a cell style? Now I have to convert a table to text and then back to table again to get the default rowheight back.

    If you want to force it to be a certain height, you should change "At Least" to "Exactly." "At Least" does just what it says it does—it sets a minimum for the row height, but lets the max vary. It should like you want to rows to be "exactly" a certain height, even if it causes text to become overset.
    You should also be able to change your defaults when you have no documents open if you prefer it to work differently.

  • Where do I Change Table Row Height with Styles?

    I have created a lot of tables in the same document, and now I want to change the height of them. I have used Table Styles and Cell Styles, to be able to change things like this in *one* place instead of the 100 different tables...
    I can't find where I alter the Cell Height (aka Row Height) in any of the styles. What have I missed?
    Please help!

    @Andreas – nothing. You missed nothing. You cannot define cell height or width with cell styles…
    However you can do so with scripting. But not directly in scripting a property of the cell style, but in iterating through all table cells, finding out its cell style and acting on the cell directly (height, minimumHeight, maximumHeight and autoGrow properties).
    Another scenario would be using a special plug-in like "Smart Styles" from Woodwing.

  • Row Height / Cell Padding

    I am making a table in Pages and I was wondering if there is a way to get rid of the extra space in the cells. If I take out the lines around and in the table, it makes it look like there is a lot of extra space between the contents of each cell - vertically, as it would be in a paragraph of typed text (I guess imagine the difference between single space and 1.5 or double spaced text).
    How do I get rid of this extra space? The row height in the inspector is as low as it will go so it just seems like there is needless padding.
    Thanks,
    scott

    Hello alethe,
    open the text inspector (the 4th button in the inspector), choose the tab button titled "Text" and move the slider button at the bottom to the most left position or type "0" into the number field on the right side of the slider. You can only in- or decrease the "cellpadding" for all four sides, not for a single side.

  • A script to apply cell style to entire rows containing a specific text

    Hi,
    I am using InDesign CC 2014
    Does anyone know how to apply a cellstyle based on text contents found in a cell in javascript?
    I need to search the document and change cell style in entire row to "cellStyle01" if the text "someText" appear in cell.
    I've found similar script here in forum which apply table style, but don't know how to change it to apply cell style!
    var curDoc = app.activeDocument;
    var allTables = curDoc.stories.everyItem().tables.everyItem();
    app.findTextPreferences = app.changeTextPreferences = null;
    app.findTextPreferences.findWhat = "someText";
    var allFounds = allTables.findText();
    app.findTextPreferences = app.changeTextPreferences = null;
    for ( var i = 0; i < allFounds.length; i++ ) {
    var curFound = allFounds[i];
    if ( curFound.length == 1 ) {
    var curFoundParent = curFound[0].parent;
    // curFoundParent.parent.appliedTableStyle = curDoc.tableStyles.itemByName( "tableStyle" );
    curFoundParent.parent.appliedCellStyle = curDoc.cellStyles.itemByName("cellStyle01");
    Thanks!

    Hi,
    Try this,
    var doc = app.activeDocument,
        _tables = doc.stories.everyItem().textStyleRanges.everyItem().getElements(),
        i, j, k, l, a, _rows,_cells, rowlen;
    for(i =0;i<_tables.length;i++)
        for(j =0;j<_tables[i].tables.length;j++)
            _rows = _tables[i].tables[j].rows;
            for(k =0;k<_rows.length;k++)
                _cells = _rows[k].cells;
                for(l =0;l<_cells.length;l++)
                    if(_cells[l].contents == "someText")
                        rowlen = _cells[l].parent.cells.length;
                        while(rowlen--)
                              _cells[rowlen].appliedCellStyle = doc.cellStyles.item("cellStyle01");

  • Report Row Height and Column Width

    Hi,
    I have a cell in a report (a description column) that causes the row height to become very large (when there is a lot of text in the description). I can make the column wider on the report attributes page, but there doesn't seem to be any place to influence the maximum height of a row on a report, short of modifying the template.
    Adding style attributes (e.g. max-height:30px) to an element only affects the <span> that the element resides in, not the table cell or row.
    Displaying the column as a text area is a useful workaround. The downside is the border and scroll bars do waste a lot of screen real estate. Does there exist some other way of setting a limit on the height and/or width of a report, report column or report row?
    Oh, and another question- how do make line breaks in this forum? There's no support for <BR> or [br].

    Please reply to this thread, my customer is facing the same issue. He does not have issue with the excel and the pdf output but in the rtf output the table heght increases to accomadate the data.He want it to bevave in the same way as the pdf do.

  • Cell style script not working in CS6

    I picked up the following script from the forum that is supposed to apply cell styles that I created to various cells.

    07.// Please check the table cell styles name is correct or not?
    08. var myActiveTable = myTable[n];
    09. myActiveTable.rows.itemByRange(0,-2).cells.everyItem().appliedCellStyle = “TTable_AA_Tint”;
    10. myActiveTable.rows[0].cells.everyItem().appliedCellStyle = “Table_Title”;//First Row
    11. myActiveTable.rows.itemByRange(-2,-1).cells.everyItem().appliedCellStyle = “Table_AA_Tint”;//Last Row
    12. }
    Whenever I run the script, I get the following message. Can someone please tell me what I need to change or fix? Any feedback would be highly appreciated

    Laubender, I am hoping you can help me with another question. How do I specify a specific cell to apply a specific cell style to. If I have a table with 3 columns and 3 rows and need to apply a different cell style to EACH of the 9 cells, what numbers do I change? I was able to figure out how to style various rows but want to apply to a specific cell. Thanks in advance.

  • Table row height expansion with rotated text

    I am using InDesign CS 4 on a Windows XP Home Edition computer. I am transcribing Gregorian chant using an opentype chant font (http://www.marello.org/projects/caeciliae). I have set up a table which is rotated 90 degrees counter clockwise so that the text and music notation appear in separate columns with each syllable of the chant having its own row. The text and music are rotated 90 degrees clockwise by cell style so that they appear normally on the page.
    Everything I have described so well has worked out very well. One inconvenient thing, however, is that when the text is rotated in the way I describe the rows do not automatically expand, even though I have them set to a minimum height lower than the actual height. When I have the text un-rotated, the rows do automatically expand. Can anyone tell me if I am doing something wrong?

    It's an exceptionally convoluted process that looks something like this:
    NSTextStorage *textStorage = [[NSTextStorage alloc] initWithString: title];
    NSTextContainer *textContainer = [[NSTextContainer alloc] initWithContainerSize: NSMakeSize(FLT_MAX, FLT_MAX)];
    NSLayoutManager *layoutManager = [[NSLayoutManager alloc] init];
    NSFont *menuFont = [NSFont menuFontOfSize: [NSFont systemFontSize]];
    NSRect stringRect;
    [layoutManager addTextContainer: textContainer];
    [textStorage addLayoutManager: layoutManager];
    [textStorage addAttribute: NSFontAttributeName value: menuFont range: NSMakeRange(0, [textStorage length])];
    [textContainer setLineFragmentPadding: 0.0];
    [layoutManager glyphRangeForTextContainer: textContainer];
    stringRect = [layoutManager usedRectForTextContainer: textContainer];
    You'll probably want to use a different font and a more reasonable size for the text container.

  • CS2 automatically fit row height to content in table?

    Hi guys, I'm using CS2 and I have a table with lots of pages. I need to be able to have the height automatically fit to the content of the tables. Unfortunately data is not consistent therefore some cells have 2 rows of content, others 8.
    Automatically fit to content is not available.
    I have tried adjusting row heights then 'table' > 'distribute rows evenly' but obviously this is no good as some are too cluttered, others too spacious.
    Any suggestions appreciated.

    Huh. Maybe I read the OP's posts correctly, I think, but I misread yours. I assumed that, since the thread-opener mentioned row height, that when the OP asked about getting rid of "distribute evenly" that row height was still under discussion. Looks to me like all you can do with cell width/column width is
    1) Select a column and specify an exact width
    2) Select a group of columns and specify the same exact width for all of 'em
    3) Select all the columns and
        a) Distribute columns evenly
        b) Specify an exact width for all columns
    Unfortunately, I have to use tables a great deal, so I feel like I'm up to speed on what we can and cannot do with ID tables.

  • CSS issue when changing the table row height to 16px

    Hello,
    After changing the table row height through css like this:
    .table-row-cell, .table-cell {
    -fx-cell-size: 16;
    the table rows are correctly displayed with a 16px height but the cell bottoms seem to be incorrectly set.
    For example the following css style (a red 3px bottom border):
    .table-cell {
    -fx-border-width: 0 0 3 0;
    -fx-border-color: red;
    doesn't work anymore with the new row height whereas it works with the 24px standard row height.
    While investigating with Scenic View, I noticed that changing the row height changes the TableRow layoutBounds height (from 24px to 16px so that's ok) but not the boundsInParent height which remains to 27px. I think it should become 19px (16 + 1.5 + 1.5). I don't know if it's a bug.
    Anyway, any help making the css red border working for a 16px row height would be greatly appreciated.
    Regards,
    Bruno.

    Q: Would this help to just use absolute div tags and give me 'ABSOLUTELY ABSOLUTE' positioning?
    No.  APDivs are not a good primary layout method.  Use default CSS positioning (which is no positioning at all).  Align page elements with margins, floats and padding.
    See example -- 2-Column CSS Layout with Grids
