Spectral histogram of adc output

G'day all
I have a LabVIEW task that I'm confident would have been dealt with before (many times). However, not for the life of me can I find a documented solution. It involves the display of a spectrum of channel hits from an ADC on a histogram (no, not the statistical flavour - the science spectral version).
I have a loop from the 8k ADC DAQ front end that (for the sake of this example) gives me the amplitude of an incoming pulse (a value between 0 and 8191). As part of that loop I'd like a real time 'live' spectrum of the accumulative number of hits per ADC channel.
I can think of ways using a 8k array and incrementing the bins manually but how to get the array data persistent in the loop... and actually display it.
If I have to invent my own wheel to solve this then that's OK but I'm sure like most of my coding brethren, I'd prefer to use somebody else's

No. A video card can only pass through enough power to support one ADC connection since all the display power goes through the card.
ADC is licence by Apple, no video cards have been made with the connection for many years.
You will need a DVI to ADC converter to use those monitors with any non-ADC connection.

Do I need DVI to ADC Adapter for Nvidia GeForce 6800 which I just installed on my G5 to be able to run ADC 23" Cinema off the GeForce 6800 card?
I want to run a new 30" Cinema and old ADC 23" Cinema from GeForce 6800. I ran the old 23" from the ATI Radeon 9600 Pro

Hi Milan,
If the Geforce 6800 does not have an ADC output, then yes, you do.
You need to check to see whether or not that the card has DVI-I output, as some of the DVI to ADC adaptors use a DVI-I plug which will not fit into a DVI-D output due to the extra pins in the plug.

My video card has a VGA and an ADc connector. Connected my 19" monitor using VGA connector.
Got a Belkin ADC to DVI adaptor for the ADC output.
Got a DVI to HDMI cable to connect to the TV.
Everything plugged together Ok.
On powering up the Mac, the Widescreen TV shows the grey screen with the apple symbol and the spinning wheel, this disappears and the 19" monitor comes on. This displays the desktop picture, but no icons appear and that's all that happens. Power off theMac, power off the Widescreen TV, power on the Mac and it comes up normally. The grey bootup screen appears on the 19".
So how do I get the system to recognise BOTH displays. I've played with the System Preferences, but because the system won't recognise both screens I can't switch on the mirror option.
Any thoughts on the problem welcome.

I take it that OS10.5.5 is detecting my Viewsonic VA1912w Screen connected to the VGA; but for some reason has decided that there is NO display (my HDTV via HDMI) connected to the ADC.
I've been playing with this for a day or two now. With both screens attached and powered on I power on the G4. The grey "boot up" screen with the Apple logo and spinning wheel appears on the HDTV screen, meaning the Mac has found it and is using it. While this is happening the Viewsonic is grey.
Then both screen go black, the Viewsonic goes blue, then puts up an old desktop picture, while the HDTV remains black. And that's all that happens.
I have to disconnect the HDMI cable from the HDTV, power down the HDTV & the Mac, then power on the Mac again to get it back.
So why would the Mac detect the HDTV, then decide it's not there?
I've tried adjusting the display settings and frequencies to no avail.
Anyone?

ADC to DVI and DVI to VGA on my G5

I have a G5 with an ATI 9600 video card that has both DVI and ADC outputs. I cannot find am ADC to VGA adapter, but I was wondering if I could use and ADC to DVI adapter and then connect that to a DVI to VGA adapter and use a 2nd VGA monitor on my Mac. Has anhyone tried this?

ADC to DVI-D adapters pass digital, not analog. There is no way for DVI to VGA to receive analog from the ADC port.

When the adapter came out the only ADC computers were G4s. They haven't updated the documentation, but it will work on a G5.

ADC to DVI connector

Hi,
Apologies if this is frequently asked/answered, but I find it difficult to find a completely straight answer anywhere.
I have an older Power Mac G5 with an AGP 8X Pro graphics card (with one ADC and one DVI connector).
I have just bought 2 new Apple 20" DVI Cinema Displays.
Can I use the Belkin ADC to DVI Connector Cable to connect one of the DVI displays to the ADC output on the G5?
If so, am I right in assuming that I still use the Cinema Display power connector in addition to using this adaptor cable?
All the documentation seems to be restricted to G4s, and for some reason the cable doesn't seem to be carried by the online Apple Store here in the UK.

ADC to DVI adapter for 30" compatability

My G5 has the Radeon 9600 Pro with a DVI and a ADC output. Can this card drive an Apple 30" display if I had a ADC to DVI dongle cable to get two DVI outputs? Does such a thing exsist?

OK, an update. The ATI RADEON 9800 Pro for Mac definitely does not do the trick. Ordered from Amazon, installed and no improvement in resolution. Out with the new and in with the old. The saga continues. No one and I mean NO ONE seems to be able to give a definitive answer to what card(s) will go into a G5 Dual to power a 30" monitor at full resolution. So far my Mac guru has been wrong twice. Sure you can "get" something like the X800 in oh, say 45 days. shannon

Mini display to adc?

I can't seem to find this question anywhere. Interested in buying an old 17" Apple Studio Display that has an ADC output. I'd like to know if I can somehow connect it to my 2009 27" iMac via Mini Display.

I, too have a Cinema display with an ADC connection that got "legacied" just about the time I bought it. It looks to me like it's a better idea and even cheaper to buy a new DVI monitor and a Mini-DVI to DVI adaptor rather than the above connectors. Price is similar, depending on how large an external monitor you select.

Spectral Analysis using Lightroom

A bit of an odd question, but I would appreciate any help.
Is it possible to use Lightroom as a spectral analysis program for standardized images?
For example:
I have numerous standardized images of geological samples. Some are lighter, some darker depending on the makeup of the sample. Can I export the spectral histogram from Lightroom as a data point for the composition of each sample? Is there any way to access the histogram/spectral data in a way that allows it to be quantified and placed into a database?

The histogram is based on Melissa RGB which is ProPhoto RGB primaries with a gamma (TRC) of 1.0 which isn’t easily exported so I doubt this is going to be useful to you. The histogram (here or in Photoshop etc) are not based on spectral data anyway. This is probably more useful for you:

ATI X800XT is adc port same dvi signal as the dvi port

For starters, what does "adc" stand for? Does it mean the adc is an analog port needing conversion to digital for display to an apple cinema display? someone at apple just said it stands for apple display connection. Yes, I know I still need an adapter, but I'm wondering if this port is inferior the the dvi port on the card. I don't know if the adaptor is just changing the physical hardware connections, or something else.
I want to go from the adc port thru an adc/dvi adaptor to the matrox mxo box, out of the mxo to apple hd 23" display. I need to reserve the other graphics port (dvi) to go thru a dvi/vga adaptor to my vga monitor.

The video quality should not be compromised by using any of these adapters. The ADC outputs the same exact digital signal as the DVI outputs. The ADC-to-DVI adapter basically discards the USB and power features and passes the digital AND analog signals through.
As mentioned above, both ADC and DVI also carry analog video signals. Using a DVI-to-VGA adapter, an ADC-to-VGA adapter, or a combination of both will allow you to use an analog VGA monitor from either port on your video card, again with no degradation of the signal.
If you are missing any or all colors or the signal is degraded in some way, you must have a bad connection, bad adapter, or bad cable. Try reconnecting or replacing each part one at at time to determine the culprit.
As for the problem of non-matching DVI connectors, check the link below to determine which ones you have and which ones you need. There are pictures of each connector on this page:

You should be able to find an adapter (or gender changer) that matches up to your cable. A web search should give you plenty of sources and options. You may try a place like Cyberguys.com: http://www.cyberguys.com/ (Search for "DVI gender" to see all available adapters.)
With quality cables and adapters, you should be able to achieve what you are trying to do with no signal degradation to each of your monitors. Let me know how it goes.

20" ADC Display Totally Black - No Image

I've searched the forums at length, but now need to post and request advice.
- I have a 20 inch acrylic ADC Cinema Display.
- The display was working perfectly until Christmas Day when I opened my G4 to install my new SATA PCI hard drive controller card.
- The computer was (of course) powered down. However, I confess that I forgot to pull the AC cord.
- I powered up the computer enthusiastically after installing the SATA card (along with a 500MB drive) and was devastated that my display was completely black.
- There is no image at all, not even a faint one that you might see with reflected light.
- The power touch-button at the lower-right works perfectly. It fires up the G4, and stays lit without any blinking pattern.
- It is evident that the computer knows the display is connected and thinks it is working fine. When I connect a second monitor to the DVI connector on the Radeon 9000 video card with the 20" Apple display connected to the ADC connector, the computer goes into dual-display mode, but naturally the main display is the ADC which remains completely black.
What I've tried:
- Reset the computer using the little button on the motherboard.
- Reset the pram using the startup key sequence.
- I connected my failed monitor to my son's G4 (which uses an identical 20" display that was purchased at the same time) via his DVI-ADC adapter. My failed monitor still did not work with his known-good ADC output. Therefore, I confirmed that the issue is with the display, and not with my Radeon 9000 card.
- Most importantly, I opened the display and installed a brand new genuine-apple replacement inverter board. The display remains completely black. (I was so sure the new inverter board would get me back in business...)
Is it possible that my stupid mistake of not pulling the AC plug while poking around in there caused all of the CCFL bulbs to blow?
Could it be the other board, called the "main board?"
How about the ADC cable? Is it prone to anything relevant?
Any ideas???
I just cannot bring myself to give up and simply discard this beautiful display, On the other hand, I obviously cannot just keep wasting money on parts that are difficult if not impossible to return.

I would also check all them pins on the ADC connector to see if any are bent or pushed in. The other thing I can possibly see is the main board in the display. If that is the last resort check out Moniserv for price and availability. I really don't think you blew the display by the power cord being still attached to the computer. It's odd that that should happen at the same time as the SATA card addition . The CCFL bulbs don't blow like that especially in pairs, I really think it's that monitor cable. I also am perplexed.

17" LCD Cinema Display does not work on G4 Tower with ATI 9000

Hi,
I have a G4 Tower with the original AGP ATI Radeon 9000B video card. My friend gave me this unit just recently but not the original monitor. Well after he got his new 30" Cinema Display he gave me the original 17"LCD Cinema Display. I was so happy, plugged it into the card and fired up the CPU but nothing! just blank! It is not getting any power for the USB ports or anything. My buddy says the monitor was checked before I picked it up. I yanked the Video card out and put it back in, inside the CPU was clean as was the card, put it back together and still nothing. The VGA monitor I have is connected via adapter to the other input and works fine. I tried doing display settings and the Cinema is not even detected. Is the Video card fried on the digital side?
Do I need a new one?

Welcome to the discussions.
The G4 AGP Graphics model originally shipped with an ATY Rage 128 graphics card. The ATI Radeon 9000 graphics card that is installed in your G4 is not the original card.
The ATI Radeon 9000 comes with a native ADC port (which you are trying to use). This port is only fully functional if the computer is ADC enabled. Your model of G4 is, unfortunately, not ADC enabled.
You can confirm this by opening the computer and having a look at the AGP slot (where the graphics card is installed). In ADC enabled Macs, there is an extra slot at one end of the AGP slot to accomodate an "extra leg" that the ADC graphics cards (such as the ATI 9000) have. This extra leg supplies the power and USB feed. You'll probably find this extra leg with no slot for it to go into.
What this means is that you are not getting power and USB feed through the ADC port to your display.
If you want to get the 17" ADC Apple LCD display working off this card (it's definitely the LCD display and not the CRT display, please confirm), you will need to use a DVI to ADC adaptor such as this one:

and run it off the DVI output.
You can run your VGA screen at the same time (if you want to) off the ADC output by using this adaptor:

This will work off the ADC port because, although the ADC port is not getting USB or power feed, it's still getting the DVI feed (which is what this adaptor needs).

20" Cinema Display with G4 dual 450

I just purchased a 20" Cinema Display to use on my G4 dual 450. I'm going to buy the ATI Radeon 7500 graphics card that's recommended, but I'm confused. Is there more than one version of this card? In the specs I don't see the Mac operating system mentioned.
My graphics needs are very simple so I want the least expensive card I can get that will handle the 20" display, and this one seems to be it. Also, is there anything else (adapter?) that I'll need?

The display you describe is a DVI display.
From where are you getting the graphics card?
If the ATI Radeon 7500 card you are looking at has no mention of Mac specifications, then it is probably not the Mac edition, more likely a PC edition.
Only Mac edition cards, or PC edition cards that have been "flashed" with a Mac ROM, will work in a Mac. As "flashing" is an after market modification, you are relying on the technical expertise of the "flasher" to give you a functional card.
The true Mac edition ATI Radeon 7500 is an OEM card (so is not generally available "off the shelf"):

It has VGA and ADC output. You would have to get an ADC to DVI adaptor to be able to use the DVI display. Here's an example of an adaptor:

Given all the things I have just pointed out, it would probably be more appropriate for you to get the ATI Radeon 8500 Mac Edition (if you can find one, they are a bit rare). Howwever, it has DVI output, so you can hook the display straight in.
If you can't find the 8500, the next most available card would be the ATI Radeon 9000 Pro Mac Edition, but it has VGA and ADC output, so you would have to use the adaptor that I mentioned before.
