Speed dial tones

It appears that the AT&T 8820 has a software "feature" that the 8800 did not have.  When speed dialing (like holding 1 for voicemail), the quickly dialed tones play out loud out of the speakers.  I do not want this.  RIM told me that it is by design.  None of my 8800s do this, but all the 8820s I had on hand did it.  When a user is in a meeting and wants to check voicemail, the last thing he/she needs is to have the speed dialed numbers played over the speaker of the BlackBerry.
RIM had no answers. Is there a way to suggest product enhancements to them that they might take seriously?
Thanks

It sounds like they had a pretty firm answer for you, actually.
What OS on the 8820 are you running? On OS 4.5, you can set the BB to Quiet or Vibrate profile, and those speed dialing DTMF tones are silenced.
Good luck.

  • Touch Tones via speed dial work now

The 3G iPhone (or the 2.0 software) seems to have fixed the issue where you could not program your speed dial to automatically enter your mailbox number and password on your voicemail system (I use AUDIX at work). With the original iPhone, the tones were too long to be recognized and I had to type the numbers in manually each time.
    Yes!

Huh, we have Audix too, and I have had mine working automatically since I got the first iPhone a year ago... I just had to play with how long of a pause to make before starting with the tones. It has always worked with Vonage as well...

  • Slow infinity speed and no dial tone

Please  help, I upgraded to infinity 2 last week, since the upgrade i have no dial tone and my my speed has dropped form 37MB to around 15mb http://www.speedtest.net/result/1956992862.png i have tried the BT speed test several times but it wont finish the test it just comes up with an error, any ideas????

Line fault. Report the phone fault to BT.

  • Just got U-verse today, how do I set up speed dialing on my phone, I had it with the ATT service, but it does not work with the UVerse

OK - I looked at the manual & see they made it major project. Instead of simply assigning tel numbers to each of the dialing digits, you have to build a directory record first, then you can assign the directory record to a dialing digit.
Looks like the simple part is using it  - just press and hold the digit to dial the whole number.
So, it will take 40 minutes or so to break down the steps in understandable prose. It is too late to start now & i have a vet appointment in the am. All day is kind of full. But, I will try to do it tomorrow (thurs the 18th)

Seemed like there should be a speed dial, so I did  a search & found the cure is worse than the disease -
    Dial from your phone
Make calls directly from your existing touch-tone home phone:
Local calls: Dial the 7- or 10-digit phone number.
Long distance calls: Dial 1 + area code + 7-digit phone number.
International calls: Dial 011 + country code + 7-digit phone number.
Dial online from your myAT&T account
Call from your online Address Book or Call History, which shows a list of up to 100 of your most recent call records sorted by date and time:
Log in to myAT&T. Don't have a myAT&T login? Register today!
From the I want to menu, select Manage my plans and services and then Manage my phone features.
Your U-verse portal will open and a Make a Call box will appear on the left side of the page.
Enter a number to dial or select a number from your Call History or Address Book.
Specify whether you'd like to activate/deactivate Caller ID Blocking and Call Waiting for the call.
    Select Place Call.
When your home phone rings, pick it up to place your call.
    Important Note
To find numbers in the Call History, you can also sort numbers by missed, answered, outgoing, name, length of call, or type, or search for a specific call.
    Dial from your U-verse TV
With U-verse TV, you can view a list of up to 100 of your most recent incoming call records by date and time on your TV screen. Use your U-verse TV remote to tune to your Call History and return calls with the press of a button.
Tune to Channel 9900 using your U-verse TV remote.
Select a U-verse Voice phone number on screen.
Press OK to view a log of answered and missed calls. You can sort by name, date, and phone number.
    Scroll using the arrows.
Select a number and press OK to return a call.
    Select Call and press OK.
When your home phone rings, pick it up to place your call.
You can have a call list accesed from a browser.
You can call back a historical call from the browser or TV.

  • No Broadband, No Dial Tone!??

My broadband went down on Friday. I rang the number that comes up on the browser, BT has done tests on the line and there is no dial tone either so I'm without phone as well! Their estimated date for fixing this is 23:59 on Wednesday!!
Does anyone know what the problem is?? It seems all the other houses around my area are fine? Living in a student house, the seven of us are in constant need of the web for our studies so this is very annoying.
Our contract with Bt started at the end of September and this is the second problem we've had. It took over a month for our speeds to be increased so that they were in the acceptable range given on the BT speed test. Before this the broadband was basically unusable.
Getting really fed up with the service (or lack of). And hope that i can be compensated for this!!
If anyone could shed some light on what the problem is at the moment that would at least give house mate and I some peace of mind. Seems very unfair that we should have to pay full price for line rental and broadband when it looks like we wont be getting either of those services for 6 days!

If there's no dial tone then there is probably a cable fault of some kind . . . not uncommon when the weather is bad and large quantities of corrosive salt are in use on roads and pavements. The dissolved salt will find its way into any weakness in cabling and can cause the sort of problem you have.
Its normal for BT to give credit for times when there is no connection. Make a note of the exact dates and times when there was no service and then contact BT for a credit on your bill.

  • Losing speed dial & can't get ringtones to work

    Hello,
I have a N95 that I seem to be having some issues with. The first is when I plug it into my computer and sync it with outlook it loses all of the speed dials as well as the associated ring tones with my contacts.
Speaking of ring tones, I can only seem to get just one to work; when I attach them to my other contacts the phone just rings with the main ring tone. Only one seems to work correctly.
    Any help would be appreciated!

Well, I found another thread that said to reset your warnings in your account, but don't do that. I was able to sign in before, but now I get the same thing you are getting, sign in over and over. itunes 7.6 is obviously very buggy and needs a fix.

  • Painfully slow broadband (plus losing dial tone)

    Hi everyone,
On Saturday night our broadband connection plummeted from a usual download speed of 200kbps (download speed, not connection) to what is now struggling to hit 15-20kbps. Along with the much slower broadband our phone has also been cutting out/losing dial tone/going incredibly quiet.
We called BT last night, told them the issues and after 45 minutes we we're told that the line was fine, it was an issue on our end and nothing else would be done.
Well this morning I spent a couple of hours messing around, connecting the router and phone to the master socket using multiple new ADSL filters, multiple other cables, everything I can think of and nothing has helped. It isn't just a WIFI issue either because although we use a few WIFI systems (android smartphone, Xbox 360 and a laptop) my main PC is connected to the router via an ethernet cable.
I'm lost for ideas though - I'm disabled and I'm unable to get out of the house often (trying to sort out the router this morning has even left me with a fair deal of pain) so the internet is my connection to the outside world via gaming and stuff, but since Saturday night I've been unable to do pretty much anything due to this issue and I'm just lost so please, if anyone can help I would appreciate any advice I can get right now.

Thanks a lot for the help so far, however I'm still having problems ...
So we did as you advised and reported the fault, then a couple of days ago (wednesday night-thursday) the phone line improved, as did the routers connection to the internet. The router is now connecting at at about 1.8mbps and the quiet line test on the phone is completely silent ... however my download speed hasn't seen any kind of improvement at all, even before all this rain and flood warning.
Could this be a problem with the router itself? Like I said originally, I've got multiple devices connected both wirelessly and wired (multiple cables tested) and according to the router and BTs speedtest it's connected perfectly, so I'm now just wondering if it could be a problem with the router not relaying the data fast enough?
It's been close to a week since this started so I'm just completely clueless - for someone who has problems leaving the house and connecting to the outside world by other means it's been a really tough week.
Thanks again for the help anyway.

  • "Temp Fail" with BLF Speed Dial + Call Pickup

    Good day All,
I am running CUCM version 8.6.2 and many IP Phones 7962G.
I have a Manager configured with extension 1001 and his PA with extension 1002. Both extensions are configured in the same Call Pickup Group.
On the PA IP Phone, the second button is configured as a BLF Speed Dial with Call Pickup for the Manager.
When someone calls the Manager, she can see that the Manager Line is ringing but when she press the button in order to pick up that calls, she hear a busy tone and the IP Phone display a message that says "Temp Fail". I have checked every thing on both IP Phones and all seems to be correct. Am I missing something may be?
When I changed the Manager Line from 1001 to 1003, in the same Call Pickup Group, thats works fine. She is able to pick up calls for 1003. But on the CUCM Server, there is no such difference between extension 1001 and 1003.
    Please advise.
    Warm regards,
    J. Kabundi.

Which PickUp group they belong doesn't matter, don't need to be the same for the BLF PickUp Feature.
But if they are in the same group as you mentioned: Can the pickup via the normal PickUp Softkey?
If changing only the Number makes it working i think you may have a problem with the DNs/Partitions. Ever renamed the partition? Try deleting the manager DN, remove the unassigned number from your server, and add it again.
If it still doesn't work... i would restart the whole server if possible.
    Regards,
    Sven

  • Commas in speed dials

    Good morning experts -
We are on Call Manager 10.5 and I am trying to use commas in a speed dial for our long distance calls.
We have authorization codes set up through our long distance vendor (not auth codes in Call Manager) so that after a long distance number is called, there is a tone, then you enter your 2 digit authorization code.  I want to set up a speed dial using commas as pauses to dial this string.
For example, auth code 22, phone number 563-344-4175, speed dial string set up as 915633444175,,22
I have tried every number of commas from 1 to 10 and it does not work.  It dials the phone number, then gives the tone that prompts you to enter the 2 digit auth code, but doesn't appear to dial the auth code at any point.
Any ideas how to make this work?
    SP

Long story short, it would take up too many resources and time to switch this over, it's not a feasible fix for us at this time.
Will this work at all with the off prem/non Cisco UC authorization codes?

  • Strange dial tone

Hello, just noticed recently when I pick up the phone I have a strange dial tone.
It sounds like the normal one but then the tone lowers, then comes back up, then down again.  Kind of like a siren on a police car/ambulance only not as loud.
Any idea what could cause it, there is only one socket in the house, and we only bought a new phone back in October, broadband speeds all seem fine and I have removed the sky box to also see but its still there.
We have an overhead line and some quite heavy rain a few nights back, was wondering had the connection box on the side of the house got damp and would I be charged for someone to come and look at it?
    Many thanks

    Hi,
I've been researching this issue on the internet and came across this post as it sounds exactly what has happened to us.
On bank holiday monday, we set our phone on divert #21# as usual when we spend a day out. We came home only to find we had a strange ring tone (sounds like a siren) and we can't make any outgoing call, nor can we switch off the divert. Even though we can't make any outgoing calls, the divert still works so we can take calls on our mobile.
It is very strange. We have reported the fault with BT who have checked the line remotely and say it looks fine. We have test our internal equipment, and also tested a phone through the emergency socket which runs into the master socket. We still get the same ring tone.
BT.com/faults suggest now that it may be something not right near our home.
Did anyone on this post get their issue resolved? What was the issue?
    Many thanks!

  • Speed dialing in the digital voice system

I am having  difficulty in setting up speed dialing in the digital voice system.  I have followed  Verizon directions, have spoken to numerous tech people, but  once I program the speed dial codes and phone numbers, the system does not retain them in memory. When I enter the two digit code associated with the phone, I just get a dial tone. Help!!

  • I have a wireless home phone connect device. Can call out on it when dial tone present, but most times cannot receive calls since purchase. Anyone else having a  problem with their home connect device?

Have had Wireless Home Phone connect device refreshed and updated three times since I purchased it in September 2014. Last tech I worked with on it initialized an NRB to check the network. I checked the location of the tower, which is less than one mile up the hill with clear line of site. The device always has two antennas on it. The device is great when it does work, but most of the time it rings three times and then jumps to an automated message saying the person I am calling is not available. I've actually gone up there several times to try an fix the device, but always end up calling a Verizon tech who has me unplug it, pull the battery, and they do some network stuff and then we turn it back on and it works. After the last time on 10/02/14, I called it and got the message. I drove up there, 100 miles one way, and called it while standing in the room. Got the same message. I picked up the phone, heard a dial tone and dialed my phone and it range through. I hung that phone connected to the device and call it using my cell phone. It rang through. I went home and tried to call it the next day. Again it did not ring through and I got the message after three rings. I call another phone at the facility and had them call me on my mom's phone and it is fixed it again. The fix last for a day or two and then it's broken again, like it is today. If it's a network problem then it must be fairly close to the area because no matter what we do it fails again. So much for the 99.98% reliable. This thing is a piece of junk!
I purchased this device and put it on my plan so that my mother who we placed in a home at 96 years old would have a phone connection that she could use and wouldn't flip her out. My family and her family has not been able to faithfully connect with her at this critical time in her life. I am giving Verizon 10 more days to figure this out and then I am going to ask for a total refund not to mention how much time and travel I have put into this piece of junk. Either the home connect transceiver is broken or the network is broken. Why should I pay close to $70 for a service that has not worked more than several days out of 35 days? Also I have spent close to three hours on the phone with decent technical people, but it's my time. I should send Verizon a bill for every time I have gone up there to fix this device as well.
What perplexes me is that a regular cell phone would have sufficed, but because Verizon has to have a data connection that is not available on a regular phone and it was going to cost me $30/month, I decided to go with the home connect. Seemed like a nice solution for an older person who would have a hard time using a cell phone and keeping it charged. Plus after all the fees for getting it connected, it only cost $20/month. That would be a pretty good thing, IF IT WORKED....... The other thing that irks me is, why do I have to pay for a data connection when the cell phone Verizon originally provided can't even access the network. What ever happened to adding a phone line for $10 bucks\ month? All I wanted was a simple phone. She would not be able to use anything more complex and all she needs is a phone line period.
I have no problem paying for something that works and does what it should, but this is ridiculousness. The MTF on this device is somewhere around 1 to 2 days. Out of 365 days that's about a 96.5% failure rate....... Want my advice? Get ride of this device. It sucks and it's bad marketing.

        jsavage9621,
It pains me to hear about your experience with the Home Phone Connect.  This device usually works seamlessly and is a great alternative to a landline phone.  It sounds like we've done our fair share of work on your account here.  I'm going to go ahead and send you a Private Message so that we can access your account and review any open tickets for you.  I look forward to speaking with you.

  • New Broadband - No Dial tone - Line Test shows no ...

    Hi,
I was wondering if anyone can help me before i start pulling my hair out!....
I have recently attempted to set up my new broadband and phone.
My activation date was 4 days ago and ever since ive been on the phone to customer service trying to work out what the problem is.
    Summary of problem:
my phone line has no dial tone at all. On my day of activation, the manager from the office below my flat came to tell me his phone lines had been cut off. After this, he tried to set his line back up and i recieved an email to tell me someone was requesting to take over my line. So i phoned BT and they cancelled off this request and assured me they had set up the line to the right address and not the offices below me. I was told it was an internet problem and that i should wait to midnight until my activation is complete (although i had already recied two emails to tell me this was complete).
I waited a further 48 hours until today - Phoned up, explained the problem again went through line tests/broadband tests and was told that everything was fine, it should be working. It must be a connection problem between my router and device. Ive tried several devicces (laptop, phone, ipday, tv etc) and none of which work. They connect to the router but say the router is not connected to internet.
My router has solid orange light with flashing red "b".
I dont know what to do next?
    Help please!!
    Thanks,
    Arlene

  • How do I set the default page when I select "+" for a new tab? Right now it defaults to Yahoo search and I want to set it to my Speed Dial page. I did have the default page set to Speed Dial but I can't find anywhere how I did it in the past.

You can set the homepage for opening tabs, but I can't find the setting for designating what page opens when I hit the + button on tabs.
This is the page that loads:
    http://search.yahoo.com/?fr=freeze&type=W3i_NA,132,3_6,Tab%20Search,20100937,6693,0,16,0
How did Yahoo embed this in the Tab settings?

Firefox '''does not''' come with a setting for a page that opens in a new Tab, the default installation always opens a blank page when you open a new Tab. Many extensions include a feature to open their choice of a webpage when you open a new tab, as does the Speed Dial extension which uses a "local page" internal to Firefox.
You need to figure out which extension has taken over that preference that Speed Dial needs to use. You didn't bother providing a Troubleshooting Information... listing as requested when you asked this question, but I can guess your problem is related wither a Yahoo extension or a Conduit / OurToolbar extension - as there is a plugin listed = Package Installer & Install Conduit.
