SpeedTouch 716v5WL - connection clues

I have two SpeedTouch routers, 510v4 and 716v5WL - only the former works for iChat.
Looking deep into the firmware of the 716 I can prove that custom trigger port rules (aka Game and Application Sharing) completely fail to detect any iChat activity using 5678 or 5060 as the trigger. I can also prove trigger port rules do work as expected for other services such as streaming a radio station so it's not a broken feature as such just that ports 5678 and 5060 are not detected as triggers.
I can get around the trigger problem by hard coding port forward rules instead (this can only be done in CLI - the web interface is limited to triggers only).
To my surprise, when contacting a buddy for a video or audio chat, hard coding port rules has exactly the desired effect of opening up the right ports (see below) however the message is still "User did not respond".
To eliminate firewalls as an issue they are switched off both in OSX and at router level on both sides of the connection.
Here are the prts opened by the hard coded port rules. Does anyone spot the problem?
Here the SIP port 5060 opens:

The first post shows the ports opened by iChat - at first glance you'd expect iChat to be successful because all the relevant ports open fine using port forward but not trigger port rules.
It seems to fail on just one thing - the SIP handshake.
The latest email from SpeedTouch arrived this morning - they still don't know why it's not working.
I've now sent transcripts using both routers 510 and 716. Notice the 716 involves Sipgate whose details are keyed in the routers telephony section- I can disable VOIP but this results in a constant loop where "found a matching heartbeat" never occurs.

  • Installed OSX 10.4.3 And Lost Internet Connection ! Help Please.

I have posted this in the Tiger forum but know there is a lot of general expertise amongst FCE users (grovel, grovel!) and I only upgraded to Tiger so that I can get FCE 3.5 for this computer!
I have updated from 10.3.9 (Panther) to 10.4.3 (Tiger) on my eMac.
Everything appears OK except I cannot connect to the internet.
On finishing the installation I got an error message saying "Could not load login file".
Incidentally, during the installation I disconnected all peripherals including my USB Broadband "modem" (I can't remember the correct terminology).
My "modem" is a "Speedtouch" and in the dock I have an application named "Diagnostics" which has to open to allow the Speedtouch to connect to the internet.
    "Diagnostics" will not open.
When I look in my Network configurations the Speedtouch name has a red dot alongside and it is not connected.
If I open Network Port Configurations the Speedtouch name is greyed out and cannot be selected.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Ian.
PS. Luckily my iMac internet connection is OK !

Nope! I have nothing resembling a stingray or any other aquatic creature!
OSX 10.4.3 was successfully installed thanks to the resolution of the above hiccup and I have now downloaded and installed the OSX 10.4.7 Combo update which brings my OS to "state of the art" status.
I will now be able to install FCE 3.5 - if I can get round to parting with the cash!
Then we'll see what everyone's talking about.
    Ian.

  • Speedtouch 510v4 on both ends & "not responding"

    Both with latest firmware 4.3.2.6
Both with default settings, UPnP is on and SIP 5060 is unbound on both.
We have someone on dial-up and we can successfully call that person and be called by the person, but when we call each other it's always "not responding" or "other side cancelled".
My Speedtouch is connected to an Airport Express which is acting as an access point only which doesn't distribute IP address. The other Speedtouch is also connected to an Access Point which is an SMC. So both Macs are getting their IPs directly from the Speedtouch.

Yes it should work but there are external issues outside of your control at the moment - Apple/AOL servers are themselves displaying unwanted behaviour, particularly if you're trying to chat using an AIM account with dotMac (synchronisation issue).
Once you've downgraded to 4.2.7 and gone through the setup wizzard for your ISP - make these changes using Terminal (Applications/Utilities):
    telnet 10.0.0.138
    username:
    password:
    system config upnp=enabled
This command will display port bindings:
    nat bindlist
If you see SIP 5060 in there, remove it thus:
    nat unbind application=SIP port=5060
    Save all changes
    saveall
    Restart the router
    system reboot

  • Can't connect to a some sites

since a couple of days I can not reach some sites. examples are:
    http://www.brushesapp.com/
    http://tweepsapp.com/
all internet connections are just fine, there are just a very few sites i can't reach. but i can reach them with gprs on my iphone so i know the problem is with 'me'.
setup: speedtouch modem connected to airport extended network (airport extreme/airport express
    os: mac 10.6.2
systems: powerbook pro and mac pro, iphone, wii, ps3
i rebooted all modems and still no go, also when i disable wifi and use ethernet, i have no access to the above sites.
could it be a problem with my provider ? any guesses here ?
many, many thanks as this is a great mistery to me !

glenn, thx for all your help. excuses for my late reply as i was on travelling !
i added the 2 dns numbers and they gave me access right away to the websites i couldn't access before so everything seems to be fine untill i found out that i had no access (authorization) to my personal twitter account. (all family members did have access very well on the same network)
    1) i checked with tweetie iphone on gprs and had excellent access. so was going on here. ? i first changed my twitter password but that did not help. then i was thinking on the dns changes.
    2) i deleted the dns numbers from my airport extreme/express but kept them in my macs network prefs. this helped strangely having access to the earlier unaccessable websites AND my twitter account.
so problems solved but don't ask me if i understand it
    do you recongnize this ?
    cheers

  • Quad G5 + Optical Digital Out + ADAT

    Hi,
Does anybody know what i need to connect my Quad directly to the ADAT of a Yamaha 01v96 V2 digital mixer?
    Apple Developer
Digital data is transmitted to and from the digital audio I/O using optical cables. The physical connectors, commonly referred to as TOSLink, are for both input and output and conform to IEC60874-17. The TOSLink friction-lock type F-05 connectors are available from pro-audio, musician’s supply, hi-fi and other retailers. The 7.5 mm digital optical TOSLink input and output connectors,..., are located on the back of the enclosure.
...The data format for signals transmitted over the optical cable is S/PDIF protocol IEC 60958-3.
    Something like this? RME DIGI9652
    G5 Quad 2.5Ghz 2GB RAM   Mac OS X (10.4.6)   Bulldog8 on SpeedTouch 716v5WL router
    G5 Quad 2.5Ghz 2GB RAM   Mac OS X (10.4.6)   Bulldog8 on SpeedTouch 716v5WL router

Well, if you have the dough then this is the PCIExpress solution from Apogee. You would buy the card and an interface (or several), which connects to the card.
You could disable the other FW devices f the KPs are too often. Otherwise, the PCIe-424 and a MOTU interface should be more affordable.
    http://www.motu.com/newsitems/the-pcie-424-card-is-now-shipping
    Excerpt from above link:
The new PCIe-424 card is available for purchase as part of a 2408mk3, HD192 or 24I/O core system (from your favorite MOTU reseller). Be sure to ask your dealer for the PCIe version of the core system you would like to purchase. PCIe is also referred to as "PCI Express".

  • IMac G5: No signal due to software problems

We have a wireless network at home from an Alcatel SpeedTouch router connected to the internet. It has been providing good internet services to an iMac G5, an iBook G4 and now an iMac Intel, but since last two months or so the iMac G5 has been experiencing low signal levels and drops of connection which finally made even impossible to download a single e-mail. At present it only detects our home network from time to time and establishes connection very rarely. Slight improvement was achieved when MacOs was updated to 10.4.8 but things are now even worse than before.
Now I'm making serveral holes through my home walls to phisically link my wireless router to my iMac G5 with Airport Extreme... My other computers (iBook G4 and iMac Intel) still work fine with Airport and perfectly connect to the router...
I have interchanged Airport cards from iBook to iMac G5 and realised that the problem is not with the card (both cards offered excellent signal levels inside the iBook, and poor or cero levels in the G5). So its a software issue, which starts appearing on the forums as it did the problem with Airport Base Stations (AEBS) a few weeks ago... That problem was apparently solved downgrading AEBS firmware to version 5.5.1 but for iMacs I don't see any solutions yet.
I have done some "reset-nvram" and "reset-all" (a suggestion I found on other forums), and I have had the computer unplugued from the power wires for two days (in order to reset the iMac power unit), and nothing seems to solve anything...
Finally, I posted a few messages here and there, looking for help.
Many thanks in advance for reading this. Any ideas will be welcome. Thank you again.

Good news so far. I talked with an Apple tech this morning and we trouble shot a few things. Two good suggestions were made by him and so far one or both are working. 1. Removed apps not needed in 'start up items' in sys preferences. 2. Unchecked 'put hard drive to sleep when possible' in sleep prefs. So far today waking the computer about 10 times has not caused the wake problem. Tomorrow I will check the 'put hard drive to sleep...' and see if that causes it. If not, I will post again and let everyone know.

  • Mulipe router/switch/hub home setup

    Home Network Port Set-Up
My home network is as shown in the figure below:
(Can not attach graphics so I explain:
4 port speedtouch router connects to the ISP.
    On this I have hung
x-Canon iP5200R network and wireless printer.
    y-AirportExtreme
On the Airport I have hung
    a-USB hub with 2 WD MyBook's
    b-iMac G5
    c-iMac G4 lamp
d-MacBook or Dell Windows laptops as and when I need to transfer large files)
The units connected to the Airport LAN ports cannot see any devices connected to the speedtouch. Originally there was only one 4 port router with built in wireless. After that there was another 4-port router with no wireless. I am therefore 100% certain that the printer have communicated through the Ethernet cable, not wireless.
I have circumvented the problem of not seeing devices on the other switch by just connecting items that should see each other to the same switch. When I got the speedtouch and airport a year ago, I just connected as this and it worked.
Today my daughter try to print and it did not work, error message 306 – check communications with printer.
    I find that
    1. The test page does print from the Canon IJ Print Utility
    2. In the Canon IJ Print Utility both wireless printing AND wired printing is selected
I deselect WL printing, and the printer disappears.
From this I deduce that the printer must have been using the WL printing facility not the cable facility, but that it stopped working today for some reason.
    So I have two issues.
    1. How do I make the devices on the airport the speedtouch see each other (I guess I must open a port on the airport. This will disable its firewall functionality, but that does matter as the speedtouch has a firewall)
    2. Why did the printing stop working – this may not really matter if I can get these to see each other on the network
    Thank you for your support

It doesn't allow me to select ethernet as an option for internet connection, only dchp, ppoe and one more which isn't ethernet.
DHCP is correct setting. .it will use ethernet but the new AC TC has problems.. it needs a crossover cable with some switches. Or you need to return it and get it replaced as there is something wrong with its wan port.. the new AC model needs a hardware revision and about 3 or 4 firmware upgrades before it hits the status of the Gen4 it replaced.
My questions are: should I connect my time capsules together directly with ethernet using another available port in my new time capsule. I thought my switch would work better. Also, does one time capsule have to be in router mode instead of having both of them in bridge.
Both should be in bridge.. but you can rearrange things to see if any of the other devices works better.
You can use the billion or the old TC.. plug the new TC into those.
Bob is correct though.. the switch is the correct thing for everything to be plugged into .. but in home situation what works is more important than what is best. It if fails in all of them then the WAN port is proven faulty.
Should I be able to use the hdd on the 2nd (older) time machine as essentially a networked hdd for putting movies and music on, and use my new time capsule as the sole backup (occurring both over ethernet for my iMac and wifi for our laptops)
Yes, that is ok.. you just need to get the AC version TC actually working properly.
Give us a few screenshots of things.. that really helps to see.
Click on each unit and show the summary pages.

  • Error -8 - how to track the problem?

    Hi,
Any/all help appreciated: I was able to v/c with my father in the UK (PC user) via AIM until recently - now getting error -8.
    - I can chat with the Apple testbots (appleu3test01 et al) fine.
    - I am using Comcast modem with linksys router. Removing the router makes no difference - same error -8.
    - I do not have the mac firewall on. My father inactivating his firewall made no difference.
    - Neither I nor my father are aware of any changes made since v/c was last OK.
    - On speed tests I routinely get >3 MB/s
Does the fact that I can connect to the Apple testbots and the above info rule out problems with my computer/network/ISP? (I read that some ISPs block ports that iChat uses and that this can give error -8.)
Help - the kids want to see Grandad again.....

    Hi Ralph & Defcom,
Its been a couple or three weeks since I have been on, but I was able to v/c with Defcom w/o problems suggesting that the problem lies with my father's computer/modem/ISP.
He is in the UK and has a PC with AMD Athlon 1800 processor (1.49GHz) running XP. Camera/software is a Logitech Quickcam. Modem is an Alcatel Speedtouch Dialer connected via USB. ISP is Orange.
When he invites me to chat, I get the invite, I accept and then we get the error message pasted below. When I invite him to chat, I get a note saying that he cancelled the invitation. We can IM through AIM. We cannot audio chat, getting similar error messages as for v/c.
    - His ISP (Orange) says they are not reserving or blocking port 5060.
    - He does not have a router. Turning off his firewall makes no difference.
Can you tell anything useful from the error message?
    Cheers guys,

Hmm.. Thank you for the response.
Have you tried using the iPod with another user account or computer, to help narrow down whether the problem lies with the computer, account, or the iPod itself?
Maybe try reformatting it, using the tools provided by Windows. Instructions on how to reformat your iPod can be found in this article.

Hi, I have the iPhone 4, 32GB, version 4.3.5 (8L1) and for some reason when I connect it to the laptop, it starts synchronising but never goes beyond step 1. It goes on syncing forever, without actually doing anything. I have tried everything, wiped the phone numerous times, deleted all files from the laptop but still no resolution. As a result, the phone does not really synchronise.
This started somewhere in May 2011 when I upgraded what proved to be a problematic s/w version and the phone has not recovered since.
Now I cannot update the iPhone s/w any longer.
    Any clue?

You may have to try deleting all the music from your phone (by going to Settings>General>Usage>Music, swipping All Music and tapping Delete), then sync it all back on with iTunes in order to fix this.

  • No connection between E71 and Thomson Speedtouch 7...

    Hi all,
My E71 detects the WLAN at home; it reports that signal strength and protocol are OK (Both WEP and WPA), but the Speedtouch does not detect my E71 (on the home page WLAN status)
Does anyone have a clue how to correct this problem on the Speedtouch, or on the E71?

    right forget telnet.
thomson speetouch/ gateway routers are problematic with some devices.
(in short the software on the provider supplied ones is **bleep**, limited and very unstable in places)
The handset does not display a name, just the mac address so in the router setup will show the phone as Unknown xx-xx-xx-xx-xx and as so cannot always sign an ip (most operator dependant providers try and protect your backside nowdays from wifi moochers.
    log into to your router
    the address will possibly be
     http://speedtouch.lan or http://192.168.1.254
if it asks you to login the details are
the Username is Administrator (note the CAPITAL A)
    password is blank
once your in you'll see the UI
scroll down to HOME NETWORKING (not the menu on the side)
and look at the devices next to wireless. click on the device it shows (for instance "Unknown-0a-2f-d8-cc-cd-3d" )
(that is a fake mac address/device)
it'll take you to the informaton about said device look in the top right hand side for "Configure"
once page loads change the device name to suit your needs - pauls_e71
scroll down to type, make sure it's set to mobile phone
(do not set to PDA there is a bug on most firmware's on thomson routers will spazz out with this setting, it does on both my unlocked st585v6 and my provider supplied tg585v7)
tick "always use the same address" then click apply, it should fix the problem
i hope this helps, as it did with my 2 e71-1's my nokia 8086's UMA and my sons n95-1

You will need a DVI to ADC adapter

If the computer does not have DVI, you will also need another adapter to connect the DVI plug to the computer.

    Hi robfromkinglake west,
Try and isolate the issue.  Check if it's only with this drive.
Check the drive with Disk Utility

  • Connecting G3 (OS 9.1) to MacPro via Speedtouch 546 T2 router

I have a blue and white G3 running OS 9.1 and a MacPro. I want to use them in a local network through a Speedtouch 546 T2 routermoden (ADSL internet connection). The MacPro is connected to the internet through the router. How can I do this, and what settings is necessary for the two computers?

As long as you have places to plug in multiple Ethernet cables and a router, you can interconnect all your Macs and share the Internet connection, local printers, and files located on other Macs.
    Internet connection:
It appears your router can provide DHCP for a range of addresses. It can pass out strictly local IP addresses for all your Macs. Your Router will act as your agent on the Internet, and most unsolicited snooping packets will be discarded. Just set everything for DHCP and all your Macs will get and maintain proper IP Addresses.
    local printers:
AppleTalk/LocalTalk printers such as most older laserWriters can be supported by a bridge device that converts AppleTalk-over-Ethernet to AppleTalk/LocalTalk. Many printers that are actually attached to a specific Mac have options to allow them to become visible on your local network.
    File Sharing:
Apple has robust interoperable File Sharing that works across a wide range of Macs -- System 7.5.3 and later. But Macs running 10.4.x are too stuck up to bother to mount files from Macs older than OS 9. As long as your older Mac is running 7.5.3 or later, it can connect and mount the later Mac's shared items via TCP/IP using the "Server IP Address" button in the Chooser.
