Splitting a database

So I have one small database, with a main table having 100 id's. That table has references to other tables in the database with corresponding id's for more information about them. I was wondering if there is a way I could split these up into three separate database files, getting the information for each id to go to its separate database.

Well I am kind of new to the whole database game, so I don't know if I'm sure what I mean either.
What will eventually happen is that I will have 3 separate .dmp files and I will want to do work with each one individually. Right now I only have 1 .dmp file, but I am wondering if there is a way to break it up to simulate 3 different ones so I can test some code.
I have written R code that sends SQL commands out to query the database, and stores the objects it returns in R data frames.
And another problem I have is that the id's simply aren't 1-100. They are randomly generated id's, like q3rt, and things like that. Also there are a couple other tables that have more information for each id, and usually have more than one row for each id. I want to make sure I get just the information for those id's that I got from splitting the original table.
I don't know if that explains it any more clearly, but any more help would be greatly appreciated.

  • Uploading Access split database to Sharepoint Site.

Hi, I'm having trouble finding instructions on how exactly you would upload a split database to SharePoint. If I split my database locally i can't then move the back end.
I want to upload my the back end of the Access database to "mysitesname".sharepoint.com I have full admin privileges but the only place I see to upload a file is the "shared documents" area of the site which I presume would only be useful
for hosting the front end for users to download. Trying to split the database to the site by using it's URL "https://"mysitesname".sharepoint.com/SitePages/Home.aspx" nd variations results in access telling me the site could not be reached.
I'm sure this is something simple to do and I'm just missing some critical piece of information.

Thank you for the reply but I'm not using a web database or web app. I should have mentioned I solved the problem yesterday.
A split database is simpler than I thought, mine is just a standard access database with linked tables. You share your file (front end) around and the back end is just a bunch of SharePoint lists if you are using SharePoint or an access file containing tables
    if using a file server.
My problem was that I couldn't upload my back end to SharePoint. I ended up making my tables into SharePoint lists and uploading those to my personal SharePoint folder as the team site didn't allow me to upload them.

  • Database Splitting

    Hi,
I would like to know if we can split the company database according to posting periods. One of my clients doesn't want to keep more than two years of data visible. He wants to split the database and store the older transactions separately. This is possible in some of the other applications e.g. Tally accounting software (India). How can we achieve this through SAP B1? Or can we do it through SQL?
    Thanks,
    Amol.

There is no 100% solution for this, because SBO is continuos system and for example datas in invoice lines are linked to order lines and when order is created in previous posting period, SBO will falls.
You may create new company, set all necessary values in accounts, create opened documents and start - but you cannot have there documents for last 2 years.

  • Is there a way to create a web or simlar link to a local database only?

    So my situation is this
I have an access 2007 database that stores the names of customers and their usual orders.
I want to create a link to this database somehow so that anyone on the network can access something like a search page that will be stored on the desktop and it will bring up the results found.
I don't want people to have to constantly go into the database and do it that way.
The database has confidential info in it so will never go online only stay as a local database.
Im unable to install anything on these computers ie PHP, ASP, MYSQL, so it there a way of doing this without either putting the database online or installing another program.
The scenario I want is this ... Customer calls up we have either a web or form search, we tap in their name or as there's not many records even a drop down box will do and it brings up their details.
Im open to any other suggestion as to how I can achieve this.

It sounds to me like you want to "split your database."
Assuming A10 or higher: Go to the Database Tools tab | Move Data | Access Database and click F1 for more help

  • Apex and database links

    Hi,
How does Apex perform using database links. We are currently on version 3.1.1.00.09 of Applicatiion Express and have all of our data in one database. We will soon be upgrading our environment to Oracle Database Appliance. We are thinking about splitting our staging area out of our existing database. We use Apex for our dashboard reporting. We are in hopes to upgrade to latest version of Apex. If we split our database up we will have to use database links to access data. How does Apex perform using database links. Will our Interactive reports work? Will performance degrade? Wanted to know your thoughts on that.
    Pam

Having used such a model for several years, I'd confirm that it is possilble to make it work, however it may not be optimal, performance-wise (depending on your data model).
Typically speaking, if you are just querying your external database "straight" (i.e. where all of the tables being queried are on the remote DB), you shouldn't notice a significant degradation in performance. The problems can come in when you either include "local" tables in your queries (in which case you need to decide which site should be 'driving') or where DML is involved (in which case the driving site defaults to the local DB) - your execution plans can change quite significantly and often for the worse.
I have tried a few strategies to mitigate against this, including converting some DML statements to be based on pipelined table functions instead of views, creating local Materialized Views of commonly accessed data (usually aggregated in some manner), or caching result sets (i.e. using the built-in apex caching function) for something more flexible but ultimately it'd be easier if everything was sitting on the same DB.

  • Backup few partitions from a database and restore them on different server

I have a Database called Datamart. Datamart database has multiple partitioned tables and the database has different filegroups and partitions. I would split the database on to three servers with one-third of the database on each.
If the database has 1500 partitions, then 0-499 on server1 Datamart database, 500-999 on server2 Datamart database and 1000-500 on server3 Datamart database.

  • SQL Server Dababase data split

    Dear All,
I have a database with 235 GB Data. Now currently database is shared by two countries transnational data. Now I got the requirement to separate the data of two countries as two individual databases.
Would you please suggest the best way to do this.
I have couple of questions here:
    1) It has 300 tables and how can I generate all the constrains create script?
2)How can I delete the relationship of all tables?
    3) after splitting the databases how can I make sure the integrity and How can I make sure to get the as is of same production database?
    Thank you in advance
    Srikanth

Before you arrived at these questions, you probably went through a mental process that made you ask these questions. Unfortunately, since we don't know that mental process, we don't really know what you have in mind.
My general take on this, is that I use BACKUP/RESTORE and make a copy of the database, and then run a bunch of DELETE operations in both databases to get rid of the unwanted data. My first approach would be do this in reference order, so that I don't
    have to drop the constraints.
But, admittedly, this can be difficult to achieve. In that case I would run:
    SELECT 'ALTER TABLE ' + quotename(s.nname) + '.' + quotename(o.name) +
           ' NOCHECK CONSTRAINT ALL '
    FROM   sys.objects o
    JOIN   sys.schemas s ON s.schema_id = o.schema_id
    WHERE  o.type = 'U'
Copy the result and run it. This disables all constraints. (foreign keys
and CHECK constraints to be precise.)
And then the same operation to disable triggers.
When the deletion operation is completed, I would run
    DBCC CHECKCONSTRAINTS WITH ALL_CONSTRAINTS
to verify that that there are no constraint violations.
Finally, reenable all triggers and constraints. When doing the latter, it is important to run it as:
    SELECT 'ALTER TABLE ' + quotename(s.nname) + '.' + quotename(o.name) +
' WITH CHECK CHECK CONSTRAINT ALL '
    FROM   sys.objects o
    JOIN   sys.schemas s ON s.schema_id = o.schema_id
    WHERE  o.type = 'U'
If you don't add WITH CHECK, SQL Server will not check the constraints when enabling them. This will leave them as not trusted, which means that the optimizer cannot use them.
Strictly speaking, you can skip DBCC CHECKCONSTRAINTS, since reenabling the constraints also checks that they are valid. However, DBCC CHECKCONSTRAINTS gives you better error diagnostics.
One challenge that I have not touch is integrity maintained by the triggers. This is something you will have to figure out.

    2) Migrate current Oracle DB on Tru64 into IBM AIX using transportable Tablespace method
It is ok to follow this approach? 1) What about the patches you have applied since the time of the installation? Doing a fresh installation will not include these patches.
    2) The supported method to migrate an Oracle Apps database between two Operating Systems which are not binary compatible is by using export/import. I believe transportable Tablespace has some limitations and would not work for such migration.

  • Disable Other Databases From Importing your Tables

Is there a way to disable other databases from being able to get at your back end tables?
History:  I have posted this same question before, and thought I had it resolved by splitting the databases into a back-end and a front-end, where the back-end has the actual tables and is password protected.  The front end is not password protected,
but uses [fOSUserName()] to determine permissions.  Unfortunately; though I had to use a password to link to the back-end table,
if I create a blank database and import the tables from the front-end, I have full view and modification ability over the protected tables in the back-end without being asked for a password.
Application:  Currently this is an in-house database that is low risk, but I need to share the same data with trusted contractors on a VPN shared Folder, where I don't want them diving into each other's workloads and invoicing.

Not the answer I wanted, but as usual, you are correct.  The two of you (Hans and Bill) have been so valuable in the different positions I have held, and I am only one of
    so many on this site.
    Thank you!
    Mark Matzke
    More about my situation:
Going to SQL would mean moving to the actual IT supported tool, but it seems the larger the company, the less the IT department is willing to customize applications to maximize efficiency, even when my department is dealing with 50 million in yearly expenses
for a single region.  With Microsoft Access, management and front line employees get a dashboard view that allows for maximizing the resources we have.  Without Microsoft Access, we would have been stuck running data pulls that seem to create tunnel
vision.  I agree that a SQL server may be the way to go, but not necessarily practical for departments situation.  Because of this, I will back down from security, keep the database fully available to in-house staff, and export Excel reports to individual
contractor drives (with data only applicable to each individual contractor).

  • Oracle Split Configuration - LinuxRH 4

    Hi, Oracle Gurus,
We have purchased sun boxes with AMD64 and used them in Oracle Applications, a bunch of applications. The current solution is use 32bits version on Application tiers, that caused Database tier in 32 bits too. A waste of resources, at least we have 4CPU + 8G and 4G can be used only.
Also 64 versions are supposed to be stable and powerful than 32 versions, as mentioned by Oracle.
Now the Oracle Split Configuration came out since last June, but till now, it is under evaluation and test, no updated.
    My questions are:
Is there someone who are using Oracle split configuration? and how do you like it? is there some issues, on either application or database side? Where is Oracle Develoment team, in west coast or east coast?
Your reply will be appreciated very much.
    Hank

I haven't done it but the metalink certify page for ebusiness says the following...

    Linux x86
    Solaris Operating System SPARC
    Windows 2000/Windows Server 2003 (x86)
When E-Business Suite (Forms, Reports, concurrent programs, etc.) are installed on a supported Application platform, the following additional platforms may be used for the Database Tier (this is called a "Split Configuration Database Tier" model):
    HP Alpha OpenVMS
    HP-UX Itanium

The installation of Oracle Database under Windows is completely different from Unix and Linux. There really is not much in common. Would it not make sense to split the Database Installation forum at least by OS platform? For instance, I don't mind to monitor the Installation forum and answer Linux and Unix related questions, but I do not want to be bothered by MS Windows issues.

  • 11i Split Configuration Certification Question

I have reviewed document 343917.1 and looked at the certifications, but I am a little confused on the split configuration certification options for 11i. We currently have 2 servers with our 11.5.10.2 environment. The db server has both the db and the admin and conc mgr. The app server has the web and forms. We are currently on a solaris sparc 32 bit for all tiers. We want to move to Linux. • Migration ( Splitting Single Node to 2 Node Cross Platform)

    Hi,
I have 11.5.10 Single Node Installation( Database and Middle Tier) on Red Hat AS 4.0....Both Database and Application Tier on same machine.......
My Client is insisting me to move Application Tier to another machine having Windows 2003 32bit/64bit...
    How can I do it...
Can I follow this document........304489.1 - Using Oracle Applications with a Split Configuration Database Tier on Oracle 9i Release 2....
But above document says...splitting Database Tier to other machine...

This is just wrong in so many ways...
    1) You will never be able to hot patch on the Windows tier.
    2) You will need to reboot the server frequently to clear memory leaks etc
    3) You will have to reboot after almost every security update for the OS
    4) As stated earlier, you are moving from the primary development platform to like a tier 3 platform
    5) Memory utilization on 32-bit Linux is light years ahead of memory utilization on 32-bit Windows
Most of us could probably rattle off a dozen more reasons why this is not a good idea...
You will support more users with a higher quality of service by standing up an application tier node on Linux than you will on Windows. You could also just add a 64-bit linux node and migrate the database to 64-bit there using the split configuration docs and leave you admin/web/forms/CP tier on Red Hat 32 bit.
