Spry Rollovers

I was tasked with making special rollovers for www.ac-et.com home page on the latest news. I used Spry selectors to do this and it works really well.
This is the code that I have used:
function setintitialnews() {
    firststyle = "background-image:url(\"/images/news/thumbs/<%=rsLatestNews.Fields.Item("nws_image").Value%>\")";
    Spry.$$("div#newspic").setStyle(firststyle);
Spry.Utils.addLoadListener(setintitialnews);
function newsrollover(url,news) {
    var newstyle = "background-image:url(\"/images/news/thumbs/"+url+"\")";
    Spry.$$("div#newspic").setStyle(newstyle);
    Spry.$$("div#newstext p").removeClassName("storyactive");
    Spry.$$("p#"+news).addClassName("storyactive");
What I would like to do next is make the images fade out then in, as the rollover is too snappy. I haven't got my head around effects yet, so any ideas would be great.
Cheers,
Steve

After some trial and error I have managed to get my rollover to fade, I used this:
function newsrollover(url,news) {
        var fadeout = new Spry.Effect.Fade('newspic', {finish:function(){var newstyle = "background-image:url(\"/images/news/thumbs/"+url+"\")";
        Spry.$$("div#newspic").setStyle(newstyle);
        Spry.$$("div#newstext p").removeClassName("storyactive");
        Spry.$$("p#"+news).addClassName("storyactive");
        var fadein = new Spry.Effect.Fade('newspic', {duration: 200, from: 0, to: 100});
        fadein.start();
        }, duration: 200, from: 100, to: 0, toggle:true});
        fadeout.start();
You can see it in action at www.ac-et.com in the latest news part of the page.
I am not 100% happy with it, and was wondering if anyone could suggest a solution.
The problem is that if you move the mouse whilst it is hovering over the link it triggers the rollover function again and can cause a strange stripped effect to occur. Is there a way I can avoid this?
I would also like it to not trigger if the current active news item is being hovered.
Any ideas?
Cheers,
Steve

  • Spry elements and rollovers not working in IE (all)

    After updating my DW CS5.5 last week my rollovers and spry menu elements don't work in IE (any version). Everything worked well before update. It is not the code (ran it through validator). I tried just insert the elements to the empty page and nothing works. I really need this to resolve as my deadline is in 2 weeks. Is it any way how I coudl return to the previous version? My version now (after update) is Version 11.5 Build 5366.
    I forgot to mention that also I cannot connect to Adobe Browser Lab from DW since update ( I can do it from website) - it doesn't recognize my Adobe ID.
    Thank you to everybody who coudl give me some info

    Upgrading should not be the cause of the problem.

  • Image rollovers with Spry fade possible?

    Does anyone know of a way to implement the Spry Fade effect
    so that the result is an image that will fade onmouseover and fade
    out onmouseout?
    Ideally I would use .hover, but this is not available, so I
    have to use onmouseover and onmouseout.
    The problem with this is that if you roll out of the image
    before the fade is complete, when you roll in again, the image
    starts the fade again and does not fade from where it had gotten
    to.
    I could use setInterval and clearInterval, but I was hoping
    that Spry would have a good, fast work around.
    Basically I want a button image that fades seamlessly when
    you rollover it.
    Many thanks.

    Hi, I have no relevant eixperience with the Spry ajax
    framework, but it can be solved with
    mootools framework easily.
    <img src="yourbutton" id="button" onmouseover="fadein();"
    onmouseout="fadeout();"/>
    <script>
    function fadein() {
    new Fx.Style( "button", 'opacity', {duration: 1000 }
    ).start(0.5,1);}
    function fadeout() {
    new Fx.Style( "button", 'opacity', {duration: 1000 }
    ).start(1,0.5);}
    </script>
    Of course you will need to set the 0.5 opacity property via
    css.

  • Spry Menu Not Working in IE9

    Hey, I'm still pretty new to webdesign and this is my first time using the sprymenu on Adobe Dreamweaver CS5.5. I'm using a vertical spry menu and it seems to work fine in Chrome and Firefox but everytime I use it in IE9, I'm prompted first about ActiveX and one of two things happen if I allow "blocked content" or don't allow. When allowing blocked content, my vertical spry menu turns all white and you can not see any of the under images. If you roll over it, the rollover images with text do however show up. As well as the submenus seem to do the same and actually work to some extent. When not allowing blocked content, rollovers and under images display perfectly fine but the submenus no longer show to the right of the parent menus. They don't show at all in general after that. I have been messing around with the css for the spry menu trying to figure out some fix but haven't come across anything similar to my problem after searching hours on end. Any help would appreciated. Below is the code for the vertical spry menu. Thanks!

    It is up to you, you could remove the counter; personally I would leave it there because once the focus has moved from the text area, the number of (remaining) words will show.
    Another solution is to force IE8 standards document mode as in
    <head>
      <!-- Mimic Internet Explorer 8 -->
      <meta http-equiv="X-UA-Compatible" content="IE=EmulateIE8" >
      <title>My webpage</title>
    </head>
    The problem with the above is that the rendering will also follow IE8 mode.

    Thanks for your help,
    I used the meta tag to emulate IE8 and it works as needed.

  • Spry tabbed panles default hide

    Hello,
    Im with some problems with the spry content tab. What I need is to:
    as default hide the content of the spry tabbed panels and also hide on mouse out
    please advise if you needto check my codes and site
    thanks

    I see that time has passed and you have not gotten a response to your question.
    What exactly is to be hidden when the mouse is not hovering; what is to be showing when the mouse IS hovering?
    It is possible that the solution will not be to use Spry Tabbed Panels, which would require a lot of adapting.
    For a simple solution, if you don't mind the "contents" to be lined up next to each other, float divs next to each other. Set a height that encompasses your title but make the overflow: hidden. Add a css style that makes overflow: visible;
    Here is some simple code for that:
    <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd">
    <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml">
    <head>
    <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8" />
    <title>Untitled Document</title>
    <style type="text/css">
    .change {
              float: left;
              height: 2.5em;
              width: 100px;
              overflow: hidden;
    .change:hover {
              overflow: visible;
    </style>
    </head>
    <body><div class="change"><h3>Title</h3>
    <p>Here is a basic element</p></div>
    <div class="change"><h3>Title</h3>
    <p>Here is a basic element</p></div>
    <div class="change"><h3>Title</h3>
    <p>Here is a basic element</p></div>
    <div class="change"><h3>Title</h3>
    <p>Here is a basic element</p></div></body>
    </html>
    I fiddled around a bit with the tabbed panels, but couldn't find an easy way to make them appear and disappear on hover.
    Your other possibility is to do disjoint rollovers using the Show-Hide behavior, but it seems difficult to have the "content" start out invisible.
    I hope you have solved the problem by now, or that these suggestions give you some ideas.

  • Horizontal menu with horizontal sub menu using image rollovers or similar

    Hello,
    I am brand new to web design and working on my first site.  What I lack in skills, I have in free time to learn right now : ) Please let me know if there is a tutorial or other resource that describes what I am trying to do...I've been searching for days and just can't find what I'm after.
    The design concept is a menu of main categories that apear to be floating over an object.  When you hover over one, it looks like it gets pressed down in space resulting in the next line populating with subcategories to be selected.  If you click on the main elements, you would be directed to that page - Services for instance.  If you just hovered over a main category, you would be presented with a list of sub-categories that behave in the same fashion.  If you then clicked on one of the sub-categories, you would be taken to that specific page.
    Here's a sequence of images that show what I'm after.
    I built all this in Illustrator as described in a Lynda.com tutorial.  I then exported slices to dreamweaver and started building content.  Each of the categories and sub categories is a separate slice with images built for the rollovers.  I was able to build the main categories and get them to visually sink upon using an imageswap...now I'm stuck on how to get the second line to behave as I described.
    This is a fun learning experience.  Let me know if there is a better way to achieve the design.  I just stared investigating SSIs as well and see the value in having this menu in just one place, referenced into all my subsequent pages.  I have successfully embeded an SSI footer with rollovers on my page, but this menu problem is really tough for me.
    I really appreciate any pointers.
    Thanks,
    Jeff Prince

    I tried building a Spry Horizontal menu to get what I want, but I had no success there.  Any tips for that?
    On a separate note...I do not know if it is proper to use a 'tabbed panel' for my menu project, but it seems to work fine.  I have built both the top (main category) and bottom (sub category) lines of my menu using spry with .png image rollovers.
    Now I just need to find out how to make the main category button rollover stay 'down' while browsing the subcategories.  I would also like to get the subcategories to populate upon mouseover of the main category, without requiring a selection.  Now that would be slick : )  In my example above, the 'services' title should be depressed while in that submenu and look like 'landscape design'.
    One minor problem is the space created between my subcategory images.  I can't find the .css or .js that is creating that space.  I've really trimmed down all the .css and do not know where else to hunt.
    Thanks for any advice,
    Jeff

  • Spry dropdown menu only works fully in Safari...

    http://www.charlespatrickjewelers.com/jewelry_pages/rings.html
    That is the link to my page. I have spry dropdowns set on the navbar for Rings, Bracelets, and watches.
    In IE and Firefox, only the rings dropdown is working, but for Safari every dropdown works. Can someone help me fix this?
    Thank you all!
    Aza

    Well, someone on another forum suggested I use css rollovers because both the spry and the swap image used the mouseover event, but I changed it and that didn't work. Can anyone here tell me why my spry navbar doesn't work in ie and Firefox?

  • Spry submenu colors and rollover images

    New both to spry as well as creating flyout menus. I've spent
    hours attempting to use the spry menus properly, but have hit a
    brick wall in a couple of areas.
    First (and I'm sure I must be missing something incredibly
    obvious), I would like to have the background of my submenus a
    different color than that of the main list. Somehow, I just can't
    get it right.
    Second is my need to for a different rollover effect for
    different items in the first list. I need a different sized gif
    shape to highlight the main words in the initial list. Through
    switching out the default rollovers in the css, I can have a custom
    image, but not a separate one for each selection.
    Any advice (other than read a tome or two on css - I'm
    running low on time for this :)?
    Thanks

    Spry is part of Adobe. This forum, though owned by Adobe, is
    volunteer
    staffed. By "our products" I was referring to my company's
    products. We make
    add-ons for Dreamweaver but we are an independent company
    with our own
    support system. Spry is very new and the documentation is not
    really
    targeted at beginners. It would seem you could benefit from
    one-on-one
    support, which you should be able to get by contacting Adobe
    Customer
    Support directly. I believe there are 2 or 3 free support
    calls you can make
    before charges are incurred. But you might get lucky and find
    someone on the
    forum who has the time and the knowledge to help you - it's
    just not
    guaranteed that you will.

  • How can I tweak my Spry Menubar? What are the limitations

    Hi guys, bit of a beginner here but I am getting on with Dreamweaver. I'm completely competent with computers as long as it's in a GUI, but I do know some basic HTML, know how the .css works and how the program works generally.
    I've made a really nice website in Photoshop, though of course it's just a .psd file. I'm really pleased with it, and am in the process of turning it into a website in Dreamweaver CS5.5. Already hit a bit of a snag unfortunately.
    See, I need to make a menubar across the top of the page, and a Spry Menu Bar seems to be the best solution. After seeing the amount of code it generates, I was really glad that the Dreamweaver GUI seemed able to handle it!
    Sadly though, I'm already having huge problems with it.
    Here's how it currently looks
    www.reviewfreak.net
    Ignore the awful font - I know how to fix that. My main problems are that I can't seem to centre the thing (It's absolutley positioned?) and when a viewer shrinks their browser window down it makes the menu shrink into collumns (infruating!). I also hate the way it has put each menu into a solid block of colour.
    Using rollover images, I've simulated how I'd like it to appear:
    www.reviewfreak.net
    Please guys, could you give me some some pointers on making
    www.reviewfreak.com look like www.reviewfreak.net ? Or is there a better way? Can I somehow integrate rasterized text into a rollover image, put hyperlinks on a rollover? If you could do rollovers within rollovers that would be incredible!
    Thanks so much, I know I've rambled a bit!

  • Multiple Colors in a single Spry Menu

    Hi,
    I'm trying to come up with the simplest way to have 3
    different sets of colors (main items/rollover and submenu
    items/rollovers)in a vertical menu. I have three groupings of links
    and each group is category based and needs to be color coded as
    well as the associated submenus.
    The Spry CSS does not wrap the menu in a ID, the ID that's
    there is for the JS File. I'd like to leverage the ID so I can
    develop 2 additional ones for the other 2 categories. I'd like to
    add as few new styles as possible and keep the code clean. Has
    anyone done this yet? Thanks in advance.

    I put up this example a while ago, but haven't visited it
    since, but it may
    give you an idea:
    http://dreamweaverresources.com/spry-widgets/spry-vertical-menu/index.html
    check out the spryMenuBarVertical.css and find the comment:
    /* CHANGING COLOR ON SUB MENUS ....*/
    to see where I created further css rules to give the flyouts
    a different
    colour to the parent.

  • Spry Menu Bar killed by absolute/relative positioning

    I have a Spry Menu Bar that works beautifully on most pages
    of my site, but it does not function at all – not even the

    this
    page where I have used relative and absolute positioning of
    other objects to create CSS image rollovers.
    If I comment out the link to the CSS file, the menu bar works
    normally. Also, if I comment out any of the positioning rules in
    the CSS file, the menu bar functions as usual – but I want my
    image rollovers.
    I have tried giving the other elements a lower z-index, and a
    higher z-index, but this did not help. Any ideas?

    I have a Spry Menu Bar that works beautifully on most pages
    of my site, but it does not function at all – not even the
    top-level links – on
    this
    page where I have used relative and absolute positioning of
    other objects to create CSS image rollovers.
Any ideas?

  • Make Spry Table respond to OnRollover Events?

    I was wondering if anybody knew what code I would have to
    alter in order to get a standard spry table (within a standard spry
    region) to respond to rollovers instead of clicks. Basically the
    effect I want is for the user to just rollover an item and it will
    update the detail field, as opposed to the user having to click.
    Does anyone know how to do this? Thanks.

    Usually it is something like:
    onmouseover=&quot;datasetname.setCurrentRow('{ds_RowID}');&quot;

  • Spry Collapsible panel - open and closed default question...

    I am using a Spry Collapsible panel in a vertical nav menu (DW CS4) and it's in a template for my site. I want it to be closed as default on the Home page, but when a visitor clicks to open it and selects their option, I would like it to remain open on the selected page - Is there a way to do this?
    Thank you all!

  • Spry menu bar woes (add submenu levels and edit width)

    So i need some spry menu bar help. Apparently as a graphic designer i'm also expected to webdesign, and while i can solve most problems with a good googling, i seem to be at  my wit's end fo this one.  So the site i'm doing has a header ith a horizontal spry pop-up menubar (in Dreamweaver CS4). But some problems arise:  when i manually add another submenu level, they don't show up in chrome or FF, they do werk perfectly in IE6. I just add the following code to the codepage:
    <li><a href="#" class="MenuBarItemSubmenu">audio equipment</a>             <ul>               <li><a href="#">Digital Matrix Systems</a></li>               <ul>               <li><a href="#">R2 Digital Audio Matrix</a></li>               </ul>               <li><a href="#">pre-amplifiers &amp; mixers</a></li>               <ul>               <li><a href="#">PMX124</a></li>               </ul>
    the PMX never pops open in FF an chrome.. Should i be adding anything else to another part of the code?  i'd like my submenu text to have a slight indent? How ever, when i add the indent to ul.menubarhorizontal ul , it elongates the submeny boxes in IE6, while looking normal (width) in chrome and FF. WHat part of the CSS style should i change to just have the text scoot over a bit without it really affecting the box layout? ALso, if anyone could tell me how to add a wee bit of spacing above the text (and beneath), i'd be eternally gratefull.  Also, how do i change the with of the submenus? seing as my main buttons are images, but the names i ned to put in my submenus are turning out to be pretty long...
