SQL*Plus Installation Problem (Ora-12705)

Hi,
I bought a guide to sql featuring Oracle by phillip J.Pratt published by course Technology include Oracale8i Personal Edition realease 8.1.5 for Microsoft Window 98 and Oracle Developer 6.0. I follow the documentation to install. I think i got right configuration (i have the tnslsnr window display and Oracle8i database started) but when I login (user:system and password:manager)it doen't work and it give me the error Ora-12705: invalid or unknow NLS parameter value specified. What can i do with this? I appreciate for yours help.

I got this error message too when I install the 9i client in my pc. You can find the NLS_LANG in the registry under \\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ORACLE. If you have multiple oracle home, you might need to check each of the entry.
I found that the value for NLS_LANG is NA and I changed it to
9i: AMERICAN_AMERICA.WE8MSWIN1252
oracle form 6i : AMERICAN_AMERICA.WE8ISO8859P1
This fixed my sqlplus problem, and I hope it helps.

  • SQL Plus Installation

Trying to install the SQL Plus 10g. After completion, could not login. I un-installed (I thought) it through Vista control panel. Now want to re-install, ran the IOU. In the Selection Installation Method window, selected Basic, typed the password and confirmed, click next. On Product Specific Prerequisite Check window, click next
I'm getting a message, "The SID you have specified already exists on the machine, please specify a different SID."
How do I specify a different SID and complete the re-installation process? Thanks for helping. John

Edited by: 804479 on Oct 22, 2010 1:52 PMThere are so many things wrong with this I hardly know where to begin.
First, before we even get to the issue at hand .. when you you respond to someone's post by editing your original, it is next to impossible for people who come along later (like me, right now) to make any sense of where the discussion stands. Keep the conversation moving forward with new messages. Once a message is responded to, do not go back and edit it. Also, when responding to a message, it is best to quote a least the significant part to which you are responding. This also helps other to know exactly what your response is addressing.
Now, as far as your installation problem ... did you actually read the installation guide?
As pointed out, sqlplus is not a stand-alone installation. It is simply a command line interpreter (CLI) that is part of the oracle client bundle. you get it by installing either the client or the database (which installs the client as well).
Second, oracle 10 is not certified on Vista. And while you don't mention the version of Vista, it's worth pointing out that NO oracle product is certified on ANY home version of ANY Windows OS.
I don't understand how you could event think you un-installed it through Vista control panel. That's not how oracle installations work, and I don't think it would even show up there to attempt to uninstall it that way.
The error message you got concerning the sid indicates your first installation probably went OK, and you installed the db server software and created database.
So at that point you couldn't log on so decided to un-install and reinstall. That's like tearing down your house and rebuilding it just because you couldn't find the door key. If you had stopped right there and asked for help it would have been relatively easy to work through the problem. Now it's anyone's guess as to exactly what you have.
It is possible - quite easy actually, but not for the faint of heart - to rip oracle out by the roots on a windows system. It involves stopping any oracle related services, deleting a key from the registry, and deleting two directories from the disk. That would let you get a clean start and is sometimes necessary when dealing with a completely broken installation. But why don't we try to fix what we have before we go there.
You must tell us the following:
EXACTLY what version AND edition of Windows you are installing this on.
Exactly how you attempted to install. What file did you execute? What choices were you presented with and what choices did you make?
Do you have any oracle related services running - see the Services control panel. All oracle related services begin with "ora".
And remember, "doesn't work" is not a valid error code or message.

  • Oracle 9i Lite/Sql Plus Installation Instructions?

I am having the same problem with install Oracle 9i Lite. Really I need to get SQL PLUS up and running. I am installing it in Windows 98 and would like to use it on a stand alone pc/home pc.
I ended up just installing sql plus without net8 and other mobile server components because I don't know what the port name and hostname is. I am just trying to get sql plus to work.
After just installing sql plus, I get the same login username/password/host string. I think you can log in as SYSDBA or SYSOPER but what is the password and host string. I am not running sql plus from a server/internet I would like it to be stand alone. I know the host string has something to do with what type connection is being used but I don't have any (other than aol dial up connection) so I would just like to run sql on a stand alone pc!!! HELP!!

Did your SQL*Plus install include create a database to connect to? I think a quick thing to check would be:
Do you have a valid tnsnames.ora in $ORACLE_HOME\network\admin
(address = is on one line)
    ie:
    orcl =
    (DESCRIPTION =
    (ADDRESS_LIST =
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = orcl.localhost)(PORT = 1521))
    (CONNECT_DATA =
    (SERVICE_NAME = orcl.localhost)
Where orcl is the name of the database you want to connect
to and local host is your machine. (Check Network configuration). If you are on a network you will replace with orcl.mynet.com
I think for a standalone SQL install they might expect you are on a NetWork and have a database to connect to. Maybe
you should download the whole install for standalone use...
9i and 8.1.7 are available for download. (8.1.7 is a little smaller and doesn't require as much memory depending on your home system)
I'm not even sure what you are trying to do. Please post more details if this doesn't help.

Babblefish believes that your question translates to English as:
"I installed Oracle 9i 9,2 client on Windows 98 to connect me to the base Oracle 7.3.4. The installation was successful and the configuration of the Net also was successful, nevertheless, when executing the SQL extra sends an error to me and makes reference to product_user_profile, in addition, I cannot execute my application in VB sending the Ora-03114 error: not connected to ORACLE. What I need to form. When installing Oracle 8i does not present/display ningun successful error, working everything."
Assuming that's a proper translation, there are a couple of points:
    - The 9.2 client ins't certified to connect to a 7.3.4 database. There may well be random issues with this configuration.
    - product_user_profile indicates to me that your DBA may have set something up that prevents certain users/machines/applications/etc. from logging into the database. I'd try speaking with your DBA to see whether this is the case, and what you need to do to have the system changed.

  • SQL Developer Installation Problems

    Hi,
We are trying to find a workable alternative to TOAD and have tried to install SQL Developer with not much success.... I think I am just about to give up but hope this last attempt to post for help can create a miracle.
I would appreciate very much if any one knows of a comprehensive document out there that can help trouble shoot the installation problems.
Let me give you the hardware and software versions first and then the problems.
    1) SQL Developer tried: sqldeveloper-1.2.1.3213-no-jre and sqldeveloper-1.2.1.3213
    2) JRE tried: JRE 1.5 and JRE 6 (C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.6.0_03)
    3) Window: XP Professional version 2002 Service pack 2
    4) Hardware: Intel Pentium 4 CPU 2.80 GHz, 1.98 GB of RAM
    Problems:
    1) SQL Developer could not find native JDBC. I don't understand why, despite all the variables set in Oracleclient10g_basic in the registry, SQL Developer did not seem to be able to find a 10g client on a network drive. I have to install 10g client directly onto my pc (C:\oracle\product\10.2.0\client_1) to solve this problem.
    2) SQL Developer abruptly disappeared after database login.
I was able to connect and log into an Oralce 10g database with TNS Connect Identifier approach. There were objects (tables, views, etc) showed up briefly on the left hand side of the SQL Developer and then it just completely disappeared without even an error message or a tearful good-bye.
The only thing I can find is this error log about EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION. After hours searching through OTN for possible mentioning of this error with SQL Developer, I found nothing so far.
Why is it so difficult to install SQL Developer? Are there a set of un-spoken pre-requisites that has to be satisfied before it can be installed properly? If so, what are they? Path system variable? Registry? Anything else?
Here's the complete EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION error log:

Is this a java problem? SQL Developer problem? Or something else?
    Thanks in advance,
    a TOAD lover

The problem you are seeing (the EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION) is a result of a version mismatch between the JDBC driver being used by SQL Developer and the Oracle client that is found on the path.
This issue only occurs when trying to use the OCI version of the JDBC driver. The simplest fix is to switch to using the basic connection type and thus using the thin (all Java) JDBC driver. As no Oracle client is required in this case, the version mismatch won't be an issue.
However, the connection approach you are using should work, and if you wish to try to sort out the problems there, we should be able to further diagnose the underlying cause of the version mismatch.
To do this, I would need to see what SQL Developer thinks are the potential Oracle client installs, as well as which install it ends up picking. Can you copy/paste the output in the Log Window (Logging Page) that is present after SQL Developer starts (but before you attempt to connect to any database)? There should be a whole series of entries like 'Checking for ORACLE_HOME environment variable' and 'Checking JDBC driver at <some path>'
These log entries are output by SQL Developer as it tries to sort out the various bits of information about Oracle client installs and thus give a peek at the selection logic being used.
Oh, and also - the value of your PATH variable would be useful as well. It may be that there is an Oracle client install on the PATH that supersedes the install SQL Developer is finding via the registry or ORACLE_HOME variable.

  • Connect to database with SQL*Plus: is TNSNAMES.ORA used?

    Hi ,
we have a local database called DEV01 and a duplicate of this database in a datacenter. To be able to connect to both databases the TNSNAMES.ORA
on the local database server (not the one in the datacenter) has the following entries:
/* Entry for local database */
    DEV01_local, DEV01_local.WORLD =
      (DESCRIPTION =
        (ADDRESS_LIST =
          (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = server01)(PORT = 1521))
        (CONNECT_DATA =
          (SERVER = DEDICATED)
          (SID= DEV01)
/* Entry for database in datacenter */
    DEV01,DEV01.WORLD =
      (DESCRIPTION =
        (ADDRESS_LIST =
          (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = server02)(PORT = 1521))
        (CONNECT_DATA =
          (SERVER = DEDICATED)
          (SID = DEV01)
When I connect to the local database server I set the Oracle-environment as follows:
    export ORACLE_SID=DEV01
    export PATH=/opt/oracle/app/oracle/product/9.2.0/bin:$PATH
    export ORACLE_HOME=/opt/oracle/app/oracle/product/9.2.0
Now I start SQL*Plus as follows:
    oracle#> sqlplus user/user
    SQL> select instance_name, host_name from v$instance;
    INSTANCE_NAME    HOST_NAME
    DEV01            server01
Since the SID is on both databases the same (DEV01) I really do not understand how Oracle decides to which database SQL*Plus connects to.
Is it a matter of the entries in the TNSNAMES.ORA?
But when I start SQL*Plus as follows:
    oracle#> sqlplus user/user@DEV01_local
    SQL> select instance_name, host_name from v$instance;
    INSTANCE_NAME    HOST_NAME
    DEV01            server01
    or
    oracle#> sqlplus user/user@DEV01
    SQL> select instance_name, host_name from v$instance;
    INSTANCE_NAME    HOST_NAME
    DEV01            server02
    everything is as expected.
Does anybody know which database gets chosen when just connect with "sqlplus user/user" (without @DEV01 or @DEV01_local)?
    Any help will be appriciated!
    Rgds
    Jan

    Both databases have the SID=DEV01.
The ORACLE_SID is set to DEV01 - but when connecting I end up at
    oracle#> sqlplus user/user
    SQL> select instance_name, host_name from v$instance;
    INSTANCE_NAME    HOST_NAME
    DEV01            server01
    which is the database with the TNSNAMES.ORA entry "DEV01_local, DEV01_local.WORLD = ..."
In your case the one defined by ORACLE_SID environment variable => but which from both is it?

  • OC4J and SQL Plus: ORACLE_HOME problem

I installed (unzip) latest version of OC4J standalone. OS is Windows XP professional. After unziping I put enviroment varibles ORACLE_HOME and JAVA_HOME and started ocj4 -start. It works OK. But I cannot run SQL Plus anymore (because it has different ORACLE_HOME) . What should I do to run both: SQL Plus and OC4J (which are installed on the same computer)?

    Hi All
Correct. Oracle application server wants to point ORACLE_HOME variable to its home directory and to smooth functionality of Oracle DB it also need same environment variable (ex sqlplus, sqlldr).
    Try this, this may work.
    1) Do not set ORACLE_HOME environment variable in profiles. (In UNIX systems do not set ORACLE_HOME in .profiles files and windows system does not set it using -> System Properties (Right Click My Computer -> proprieties) -> Advanced -> Environment variables). If it is already set please unset that.
    2) Open cmd and check ORACLE_HOME is set or not (in windows u can use echo %ORACLE_HOME% and Unix/Linux u can use echo $ORACLE_HOME). If it is set please unset ORALCE_HOME environment variable.
    3) To start application server open cmd, follow step 2 and set ORALCE_HOME home to oracle application server home and then u can run the command to start oracle application server. If u want to use script to start app server what u have to do is u can set ORALCE_HOME environment variable inside script and point it to app server home.
    4) If u want to run the Oracle DB utilities please open the another cmd , follow the step 2 and set ORACLE_HOME environment variable to Oracle DB home. And then execute DB utilities commands.
Note: - What we have to do is simply point to correct oracle home to before execute commands

  • SQL*Plus login problems

Hi. I am just reading through my PL/SQL 101 book and exam guide for preparation for the 1Z0-007 exam. I have downloaded Oracle 9i and I cannot login to SQL+ at all. I want to use my database as a stand alone system for the time being until I can network my other computer with my new one.
All I want is to get into SQL+ so that I can practice pl/sql code for the exam.
Can anyone help me? What steps should I do?
thank you, comments and solutions are greatly appreciated.
    Karin

If you are connecting a local default database (which you may be if I make a guess at your configuration), you don't need to enter anything in the host string field. Just enter the username and password.
If you are connecting to a remote database, or non-default database, you need to enter a connect string in the host strint field. To find your connect string, look in your tnsnames.ora file (in the network/admin directory) and you will see an entry for the default database you created. Use the value set for SERVICE_NAME.

  • Creative WebCam Vista Plus Installation Problem..

    Hi,
I've got a big problem when i'm trying to install the software for my webcam.. when i put in the software CD and appears the install menu i click on "continue" to start the installation.. but then there is this strange problem ( i've no idea what it is cause im kinda computer noob xD ) something like a "problemreport" sorry for this word i'm from germany and can't translate it well^^
There is written that DemoShield Player detected a problem and has to quit. So i can't continue with the installation.
Does anybody know how to fix this problem?
I have Windows XP Home Edition.. please ask me if i forgot something, it's the first time for me that i use such a forum to ask other people for help xD so don't get angry if there's something missing in my question :P

    Sephiroth,
Can you click on the details for the error report and post up what it says. If it reports something about Apple causing the problem then you could try updating your QuickTime to the latest version.

  • SQL 2014 Installation Problem

Enterprise Edition 2014 x64 on  Windows 7 and Win 8.1
Installation has failed in two instances on different machines - desktop
I am Administrator on the boxes.  When I login to the domain ... it fails ...as follows.
But when the DBA (also a domain admin) logs in... then the installation continues....
The machine has .... Event Log Readers + Backup Operators; but has no Debug Users
    HasSecurityBackupAndDebugPrivilegesCheck
The account that is running SQL Server Setup does not have one or all of the following rights: the right to back up files and directories, the right to manage auditing and the security log and the right to debug programs. To continue, use an account with
both of these rights. For more information, see http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms813696.aspx, http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms813959.aspx and http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms813847.aspx.
When I list the privileges (command line something), it gives the same output for me as the DomainAdmin/DBA user id.
What can it be?  What can it be?

    Hello,
Enterprise Edition of SQL Server 2014 is not supported on a client operating system like Windows 7. You still can install it but there

    Hi Howard,
It looks like your DB is not jave enabled. You have to have
your 8i or later DB java enabled in order to load the java
