SQL post-install scripts when restoring RMAN backup to a higher version
Hi,
If I've an RMAN backupset taken from, say an 11.2.0.3.0 DB, and I want to restore this to an 11.2.0.4.5 DB, I know I'll have to open in upgrade mode, and run the SQL components of the OJVM PSU along with the January 2015 PSU after the restore completes.
Is there anything specific about the order of catbundle, utlrp, utli112 and OJVM postinstall scripts that need running after catproc?
I'm guessing it needs to be:
catproc->utli112->OJVM PSU->catbundle->utlrp
But thought I'd check just in case there's something specific I've missed.
Thanks,
Phil
For RMAN restore on higher version, you can follow below steps.
SQL> alter database mount;
Database altered.
SQL> recover database until cancel using BACKUP CONTROLFILE ;
----some log files will be applied here, at the end, give cancel----------------
Specify log: {<RET>=suggested | filename | AUTO | CANCEL}
CANCEL
Media recovery cancelled.
SQL> alter database open resetlogs upgrade;
Database altered.
---Now perform manual upgrade steps----
Remember, you need to run utlu112i.sql in source DB and before the upgrade. for catbundle, you can follow the readme instructions.
Hope it helps!!!.
Thanks,
Abhi

Restoring Rman backup on New Host with different directory structure
Hi,
I have a following scenario to clone the database.
1. clone the database on new server
2. source is non - ASM and target is ASM
3. On source incremental level 0 backup taken on disk connecting to catalog, the backup is moved to target host to different directory structure
4. source is running on 32-bit Linux two node Rac and Target is running on 64-bit Linux two node Rac
I did the following steps and getting below error:
1. I copied incremental Level 0 backup to target server(where we need to build new db) to different directory structure
2. On target i created pfile and build the instance, as dbf file are in multiple locations in source i put following tow parameters in init.ora of target database
*.db_file_name_convert =(/u02/oradata/app1p/,+QADATA2/udev/datafile),(/u03/oradata/app1p/,+QADATA1/udev/datafile),(/u12/oradata/app1p/,+QADATA1/udev/datafile,),(/u99/oradata/app1p/,+QADATA1/udev/datafile),(/u09/oradata/app1p/,+QADATA1/udev/datafile),(/u14/oradata/app1p/,+QADATA1/udev/datafile),(/u07/oradata/app1p/,+QADATA1/udev/datafile),(/u06/oradata/prod/,+QADATA1/udev/datafile'),(/u05/oradata/app1p/,+QADATA1/udev/datafile)
*.log_file_name_convert =("/u99/oradata/app1p/","+QADATA2/udev/onlinelog/")
3. connected to rman -->> started db in nomount -->> restored the controlfile --> cataloged the backup piece and then i am trying to restore
All the above steps i did using the Doc id *How To Restore Rman Backups On A Different Node When The Directory Structures Are Different [ID 419137.1]*

I am creating an image with System Utility. One module i can add is called "Add Packages and Post-Install Scripts".
I put one of my scripts in it:
#!bin/sh
defaults write /Library/Preferences/com.apple.loginwindow LoginwindowText "Hello"
But I get an error when trying to image saying "install setup failed: run postinstall script"
I know the script works because i tested it.
Any ideas?probably not…
try using the defined installer variables instead of a specific path. there's a quick rundown here, though there's probably better documentation of it elsewhere: http://tinyurl.com/yejppmm
basically, you probably want $3:
$1: Full Path to Package
$2: Full Path to target installation directory: /Applications
$3: Mountpoint of installation disk: / or /Volumes/External_Drive
$4: Root directory of currently booted system
your script may be failing because the installer is trying to run it on the booted volume, which won't work. you want it to apply to the restored/newly installed volume. -

RMAN-06820: WARNING: failed to archive current log at primary database
ORACLE error from target database:
ORA-17629: Cannot connect to the remote database server
ORA-17627: ORA-00942: table or view does not exist
Could anyone help me? Thanks,Hello;
When you connect RMAN to the source database as TARGET you must specify a password even if RMAN uses operating system authentication.
So the errors ORA-17627 and ORA-00942 appear to be cause and effect.
What version of Oracle? ( 11.2.0.4 according to the tag )
Can you post your backup script?

Restoring RMAN backup from tape beyond retention policy ??
Hello Friends,
I just stuck in some basic finding. Need your help to resolve the questions.
How we can use RMAN backup to restore oracle database when the RMAN backup pushed to tape already and being a OLD backup ( before retention policy date).
Just to elaborate a more.. Say my retention policy is 3 days. I want to restore from a old backup like 30 days old.
So surely the requesting backup is behind retention date and has been pushed to tape.
Please suggest.
Thanks in advance.

Assuming the actual backup files still exist (the only thing actually deleted is the record of them in the catalog), you can make those files available and use the rman 'catalog' command to re-catalog them. -
About post install scripts...
hi,
i wonder if there is a solution for the post-install script problem to prevent some commands like "rm -rf /" to be executed. I know that Gentoo hasn't got this problem because ebuild scripts use a particular language that doesn't implement a such command. But for Arch which uses bash, could this problem be really resolved ?

That's about all you can do.
what about a check (in pacman), to give warning, that something will be done with / ... as i know, there is no line to run with / as parameter for a normal reason during an installation or upgrade

this will at least give the user a chance to look at code that contain "/ " in the install/upgrade/remove-scripts and have some control
of course this will not check the package-content :-( ... but at least you will have one leak closed particulary -
Dear All,
I am practicing Oracle Restore scenarios on my Oracle 9i database. Once I complete my tests in Oracle 9i I will move up to 10g and then finally to 11g.
Following is my recovery scenario:
1) I did NOT configure Recovery Catalog
2) I would like to restore my databse from a 15 days old backup
3) control_file_record_keep_time is set to 7 days.
4) Backups are on tape.
Can you guys please shed some light on how to I proceed?
- PIn oracle 9i , check , which situation you can perform complete recovery and in which situations you have to select incomplete recovery.

I have installed 0S5 but restoring the backup doesn't work. the following messages appears: An error accurred while restoring this iphone (-20), followed by another message: because the backup was corrupt or not compatible with iphone being restored (my iphone is 3GS), I tried restoring the factory settings and then restore the backup, but the same problems and I have lost all my contacts, pictures etc
Hi Ckuan,
Thanks a lot for your advice.
Deleting the correupted back up means to delete the information of one month since the last back up I made is one month ago.....right?
This back up I made right before I restored my iphone. During the restore however my OS was upgraded to 5.1.1. and reading the comments on the internet it seems I am not the only one whom experience this problem.
Can it be that if I downgrade my OS back to 5.1. the back up will not be considered as corrupted? If so, how do I downgrade the iphone?
Thanks in advance. -
How to find out when last rman backup was made in 9i
Hello,
i have an oracle 9i database running on windows here. Is there a way to find out when the last rman backup was done with a sql query?
I would like to create a job inside the database that regulary checks if a rman backup ran sucessfully instead of using scripts in the operating system.
But i only know about commands in the rman utility (that i can not execute as a job, right?) - is something similar possible with for example sqlplus?Hello,

Restoring RMAN backup on a different server
Hi oracle gurus
i have following scenario
i have a compressed backup set of a database
i want to restore that rman backup on to a different server.
both the server have same version of oracle.and both the server are of 32 bit.
please reply if any more info is required.RESTORE AND RECOVERY PROCEDURE OF PRODUCTION DATABASE BACKUP ON TEST SERVERS
As part of disaster recovery exercise or to test the validity of a RMAN backup, a full restore and recovery of databases can be performed on scratch or test servers utilising the production RMAN backups which have been restored from the tape backups on these test or scratch servers.
This note will illustrate the above procedure by detailing the steps required to restore the backup of a production database (prod1) on a test server linux01 .
The following assumptions are made in this note:
The RMAN backups have been restored from tape backups to the same backup location on the test server as the production server where the backup was originally taken
The identical directory structure as is present on production has been created on the test server. This will apply to not only the location of the database files (data, control files, redo log files), but also to the bdump,cdump, udump and adump locations.
Controlfile autobackup has been enabled. This is important.
Overview
Restore the spfile from the autobackup
Restore the controlfile from the autobackup
Restore the data files
Recover by applying archived redo log files
Open the database with resetlogs
Restore the SPFILE
[oracle@linux01 prod1]$ rman target /
connected to target database (not started)
RMAN> set dbid=4266928631
executing command: SET DBID
RMAN> startup force nomount;
startup failed: ORA-01078: failure in processing system parameters
LRM-00109: could not open parameter file '/u01/app/oracle/product/10.2.0/dbs/initprod1.ora'
starting Oracle instance without parameter file for retrival of spfile
Oracle instance started
Total System Global Area 159383552 bytes
Fixed Size 2039056 bytes
Variable Size 67109616 bytes
Database Buffers 83886080 bytes
Redo Buffers 6348800 bytes
RMAN> run
2> {SET CONTROLFILE AUTOBACKUP FORMAT FOR DEVICE TYPE DISK TO '/u02/backup/prod1/%F';
3> restore spfile from autobackup;
4> }
RMAN> shutdown immediate;
Restore the Control File
In this case, the instance is now being started with the restored spfile. We can create a pfile as well from this spfile is so required.
RMAN> startup nomount
connected to target database (not started)
Oracle instance started
RMAN> set dbid=4266928631
executing command: SET DBID
RMAN> run
2> {SET CONTROLFILE AUTOBACKUP FORMAT FOR DEVICE TYPE DISK TO '/u02/backup/prod1/%F';
3> restore controlfile from autobackup;
4> }
RMAN> alter database mount;
database mounted
released channel: ORA_DISK_1
Restore the database
RMAN> restore database;
Recover the database
The recovery will fail at a point where it cannot restore any more archived redo log files.
In this case the last archived log file which has been backed up is sequence 613.
This information can be obtained by issuing a LIST BACKUP OF ARCHIVELOG ALL command.
So RMAN will fail when it tries to apply sequence 614 ….
RMAN> recover database
[oracle@linux01 PROD1]$ rman target /
connected to target database: PROD1 (DBID=4266928631, not open)
RMAN> sql 'alter database open resetlogs';

Edited by: user11981514 on Aug 6, 2010 9:46 AMHi,
Since the error ORA-19809 indicates the lack of space in flash recovery area during the media recovery, I suggested increasing the value of the parameter DB_RECOVERY_FILE_DEST_SIZE.
Yes, during the media recovery the RMAN will restore the archived log to the default destination (only if the required archived logs are not already on the disks).You can confirm the restore location of the archived log in RMAN restore log/destination specified by parameters log_archive_dest_1/db_recovery_file_dest.

Apps fail to install during iPad restore from backup
I made a clean backup of my iPad2/iOS6, rebooted everything, then tried to restore from backup and there's a bunch of apps that failed to install. I've repeated this process 3x; every time it seems to be a different # of failed to install apps (3-80!!). I now have almost a full page of icons/folders with blank install bars under them.
Did anyone find a solution to this?!Haven't tried setting up as new. I did the restore and then when itunes asked me, I selected the restore from a backup that was created yesterday. I'll try setup as new first and then restore from backup after? It's going to be a real pain if I have to start everything from scratch :(

Group messages over wi-fi in iOS 8
I have been in a group message chat with two other friends for over a year now, and it's always sent no problem over wi-fi. I just upgraded to iOS 8, but can only send my group texts now. Is this because they only have iOS 7 and older?
