Squealing noise when printer is at rest

When my HP ENVY 7645 is on but not being used it has a low repetitive squealing noise.  It goes away when the printer is used but after awhile of non-use it seems to go into another mode and begins the squealing noise again.

Nothing - absolutely nothing fixes that terrible background squealing except powering this machine off.  It sits right beside me on the desk.  I often have to leave it on because another user is sending to it.  It drives me crazy!  I've taken to playing music on my computer to drown it out but this is hard because I'm a writer and it messes with my thought processes.  Please - HP can't you do something about this.  The printer itself works great and I'm happy with it .  I've had HP products for years and this is the first one with such an annoying problem.

  • My macbook air is making a weird squealing noise when charging.

Hi, recently i have noticed that my macbook air has started to make a weird squealing noise when charging. This noise is feint, though it's clearly audible, and is quite annoying when i am using my mac for things like word processing and internet browsing. It only makes this noise when the charger is plugged in, and not when it is running off battery power. Whats also worth noting is that whenever i scroll up or down a page in safari, or chome, the noise changes slightly. Again this only happens when the mba is plugged in.

hi, right now i am using my macbook air off the battery, and everything seems to be running ok. unfortunantly this is my first mac, so i dont have any other chargers lying around that i could test it with. However i shall definately see about taking it to the genius bar. its a bit of a pain, seeing as it's only been ten days since i purchased the **** thing.

  • Loud noise when printing

print quality good but loud noise when printing. do printers need "oiling"?

    Hello @mikeed,
    Welcome to the HP forums.
I understand that your 7500A is being rather noisy.
    I would like to help.
Unfortunately, there is not way to 'grease up' the printers gears.
If the noise goes away when the product is on, and disconnected from the computer, there might be a connectivity problem. Use the following steps to isolate a connectivity issue with the computer.
    Shut down the computer.
    Turn off the product.
Disconnect the USB cable from the product.
    Wait 30 seconds.
    Turn on the product.
    Print a self test report
    Turn off the product.
Connect the product to a USB port on the computer.
    Turn on the computer.
After the computer finishes booting up, turn on the product.
If you still hear the sound, connect the product to a different USB port on the computer. Check the functionality of the product.
If you still hear the sound, connect the product to a new computer.
Check the functionality of the product.
If the sound continues and the product functions normally, the sound is a normal sound.
When the product prints, the rollers, gears, paper feed, and carriage makes noise.
When you print in the Fast or Draft modes, the product makes more noise than when you print in the Best or Normal modes.
    Check the following:
If the product did not print successfully, check for a paper jam.
Check that the product supports the paper you loaded.
Make sure the paper is loaded correctly, the trays are extended, and the paper guides are adjusted properly.
You can also try the following.
Remove and reinsert the cartridges to make sure that they are correctly installed in the unit.
    Perform a hard reset.
While teh printer is powered on, unplug the printers power cord.
    Wait at least 30 seconds.
Plug the power cord back into the printer.

  • Photosmart C8180 Squeaky noises when Printing

I have a Photosmart C8180 all-in-one printer.  When I hit print and the wheels or mechanics of the printer start to move, I get horrible squeaky noises.  It's not from the paper tray or photo tray but somewhere else.  It happens a lot during the process of the printing before printing actually takes place and once it's done.  The noises are getting worse.  Any suggestions on how to get rid of this noise?  I am worried my printer will break down if not taken care of soon.  I print a lot of photos but these noises also happens when printing documents.
    Thanks for any suggestions.

Hi - Assuming you're in the US, you can call 866-234-1377 for service related options.  As for parts for the printer, you can go here to find the parts that are avaialble for the C8180.  I don't have any idea which part(s) would need to be replaced.  If you're interested in going that route, you might start a new post with that question specifically and see if another user on the forum might have some experience with parts replacement on the C8180.
    Hope that helps.

  • Unwanted noise when printing in laser jet 1018

I've been using laser jet 1018 for many years and all of a sudden it starts screech when printing. What can I do to stop this?
If there is nothing to do but buying a new printer which other printer uses the same same toner cartridge?

    Hello magistern,
    Welcome to the HP Forums.
The noise that you are experiencing could be cause by many different scenarios. The basis troubleshooting would include making sure the printer power cable is connected directly to a wall outlet and not a power bar/strip.  Taking a light weight lubricating oil and applying very little to the gears.
I realize that you have had this printer for some time. If you would like to see about some out of warranty options, I suggest  calling HP's Technical Support to see about further options for you. • LaserJet CP1025NW Color Printer - Weird cranking noise when printing or rotating carousel

Just out the package today, the first time turning on the printer, during all print jobs and when rotating the cartridges, the carousel is making a weird cranking noise coming from the left side of the printer. I understand that this printer does make the winding/power-up sound, but this cranking noise is in addition to the normal sound.
I find this odd because I use the exact same printer at work and it does not make this noise and I am afraid that it is a faulty mechanism within the printer.
I have checked to make sure that I removed all packaging from inside the printer and removed all cartridges and replaced them. I would think that all pieces that need to be removed would be bright orange. Also, the print jobs are not affected by the cranking noise.
Does anyone else have this problem?

    Hi saidthegirl
I understand the printer is noisy but will print.
I have included the document for setting up the printer, to take a look at where all the packing material is located.

If the printer is making unusual noise and you are using the toner that shipped with the printer then I would recommend to call HP Tech Support for further assistance to see what other options are available for you.

  • Printer making noise when printing

I have an HP Officejet Pro 8500 Wireless A909g all in one printer. Running on Windows 7 64-bit
I have started to notice a noise being made by my printer when the print head is moving. Either while printing or when the printhead is being cleaned. It sounds like picking at guitar strings.   When I check the status of my printer, it shows that everything is ok. I ran the HP diagnostic tool and it also showed that everything is working fine.  I checked the printhead health, and it showed that one was exellent and one was ok.
I have not been able to find any similar issues on the support forum or the HP site.

How long have you been using the printer? the printhead may be wearing out... as long as it still prints , its ok. YOu may need to replace the printhead in the future.

  • Color Laserjet Pro M277dw making weird noises when printing

Hello Everyone, At my office we bought the Color Laserjet Pro M277dw printer last week, and since then everytime we print, the printer makes really weird noises. We checked inside but everything inside looks to be okay . Here you have the link with an audio I recorded with the sound it makes. Thank you very much and it would be great if you guys could help us to find a solution! Best, Lorena

Grinding can only mean physical damage to the printer.  You need to isolate the sound and replace the part to resolve the problem. The good news is that this is a new printer and will be covered by the warranty.  Contact HP directly and have them run you through the options.  It shouldnt cost you anything, but you do need to contact them directly.

  • 5 year old HP Photosmart C4280 Printer is making a machine gun noise when printing

Connected to a Windows 7 DELL PC - suddenly making this dreadful noice - would replace it but I have a cupboard full of cartridges

    Hi there keithhumph,
Hmm, this could be as simple as a dirty encoder strip. Open panel door and inpect the interior of the printers components. Look for a clear strip that runs horizontally. This is the encoder strip and tells the print carriage where it is in relation to the casing. If there is dirt/ink/debris/etc. use a soft cloth to CAREFULLY clean the strip. Remember without this strip the printhead will bang around inside the printer USE CAUTION. Let us know if it helps.
    Best of Luck!

  • Photosmart 7280 All-in-One makes a weird squeeky noise when photo printing. Why?

Since purchase it has made this squeeky noise when printing a picture using the photo tray (4 x 6 w/tab).  When the photo paper (or photo tray?) is going through to begin the print job.  Once the photo paper gets to that point of printing the photo, I no longer hear that squeeky sound.
I've looked, searched and cleaned every where I dare to but it still makes that sound.  I've had this printer for two plus years and the photo's turn out just fine as well as any other type print/copy functions I use.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks.

  • High pitched squeal noise and low end rumble RME Fireface 800 Macbook pro 2011

    Hi there,
I just updated Mac OSX Snow Leopard and my Fireface 800 has started emitting a high pitched squealing noise when turned on and connected via Firewire 800 cable.
Also my 17" Macbook pro requested a hard reset last week for the first time, after this problem began.
When my subwoofer is connected, a low end rumble is emitted at the same time as the squeal, and persists until turned off and on again.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks

  • Photosmart 6520 makes noise like slipping gears when printing

Photosmart 6520 makes noise like slipping gears when printing. Printer is just one month old? Have Windows 8.1 OS.

    Hi @Zed0027,
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
I noticed that your HP Photosmart 6520 is making noises like the gears are slipping during printing, and I am happy to help!
For further assistance, I will need to know:
If the printer is located on a flat surface.
If there are any error messages displayed on the printer's display screen. Such as: Paper Jam, Carriage Jam etc.
If the power cable is plugged into a surge protector, or directly to the wall outlet. Issues when Connected to an Uninterruptible Power Supply/Power Strip/Surge Protector. This applies to Inkjet printers as well.
If you can see any broken parts in the printer when you open it.
If the ink carriage is moving freely.
In the meantime, please try a hard reset, please see this post, How to perform a Hard Reset by @Rich1.
Hope to hear from you soon!

  • My 7515 makes a lot of noise, like gears grinding when printing and resetting itself.

My 7515 makes a lot of noise, like gears grinding when printing and resetting itself. Just wondering if this is normal for this machine, or is it not working correctly? Seems to be printing fine (only a couple sheets and two photos so far).

  • High pitch squealing noise

After printer sits idle for awhile there is a high pitched squealing noise.  At first you don't notice it and then it becomes so annoying as a light background noise I have to turn off the printer until I need it again.

    Hello Bernina,
    Welcome to the HP Forums.
Typically when a printer makes any kind of unusual noise, it has to do with a power issue or a lack there of.
Please make sure that you have the printer power cable connected directly to a wall outlet and not a power bar/strip. Here is a document that uses a LaserJet printer as an example but it is meant for HP products in general. Please click on the following link that explains the Issues when Connected to an Uninterruptible Power Supply/Power Strip/Surge Protector.
If the troubleshooting does not help resolve your issue, I would then suggest calling HP's Technical Support to see about further options for you. If you are calling within North America, the number is 1-800-474-6836 and for all other regions, click here: click here.
