2011 MacBook Pro, 64 bit i7 quad core, upgraded to Lion OSx, Bootcamp installed with Windows 7, wanting to install Windows 8 (don't ask), tried downloading/installing bootcamp 5.0.5033 (both on the mac/windows partitions (actually using a parallel to run Windows)), error message something similar to bootcamp doesn't support this Windows
So the question is am I doing something wrong? Should I just try and install windows 8 through my windows 7 partition and see if I can use the bootcamp 5.05033. Or do I solely have to use the bootcamp to install Windows 8? I'm not too familiar with bootcamp and how it runs.

if you're using parallels and full bootcamp then you're making it 100% more troublesome for youself then it needs to be
bootcamp is running windows directly on the hardware this give full memory and cpu and 3d video game power
running windows in parallels is running a virtual machine where one can't run powerful games and the like but one can have it in a window and change fast between osx and windows
parallels as the only virutal machine (as far as I know) support not have the operating system as a file on the osx harddisk but can access a bootcamp parition as virtual machine but without the benefits bootcamps provides
it's a service parallels provide for those who want both to play games in normal bootcamp and sometimes use windows in a virutal machine
just install it like a normal virtual machine and you need not worry about bootcamp drivers and the likes
plus it would mean that the windows part would be a part of the timemachine bacup of osx
which it is not when it's in bootcamp

I have tried with on a new, blank file, with just a few lines on it, but, as soon as I place the first pin, the image disappears, and then, as soon as I click anywhere else in the image, Photoshop crashes. I have followed all the online advice about settings under the Preferences/Performance interface, but nothing fixes the problem. Can anyone please help?

  • I have a Power Mac G5 quad core (2006) and it does not work.

I have a Power Mac G5 Quad core (2006) and it does not work. The status light flashes twice and the fans blow full blast. The display does not show anything. Does anybody know what is wrong with my mac.

Can you count the beeps or flashes?
1 beep = no RAM installed
2 beeps = incompatible RAM types
3 beeps = no good banks
4 beeps = no good boot images in the boot ROM (and/or bad sys config block)
5 beeps = processor is not usable
In addition to the beeps, on some computers the power LED will flash a corresponding number of times plus one. The LED will repeat the sequence after approximately a 5-second pause. The tones are only played once.
Note: In this case, a flash is considered to be 1/4 second or 250 ms or greater in length.

  • Quad core MacMini and Snow Leopard?

Will the 2011 quad core MacMini be able to run Snow Leopard?
You may ask why I want to do that.
1.) I have PPC software I rely on (needs Rosetta) and that software is not gonna be upgraded, or at least not in the next couple years.
2.) And anyway, iI dont like Lion. Its drifting away from what I expect an OS to do.

Actually I have a 2011 Mac Mini Server (2GHz Core i7) and it does boot Mac OS X 10.6.8 and Mac OS X Server 10.6.8.  But it doesn't run at full speed. GeekBench gave a score of 3001, compared to 9564 when running under Mac OS X 10.7.  This was backed up with some MySQL testing as well. Under 10.6.8 a particular task took over 14 minutes, under 10.7 it runs in 3:07.  Same task takes 5:14 on last years Core 2 Duo 2.66 Mac Mini Server with 10.6.8 so I think GeekBench was being truthful.
At a  guess I'd say 10.6 is missing some hardware specific drivers and the machine is running at a throttled speed to be safe.
There's also some issues with the video card incorrectly detecting a second monitor. It thinks there's a second monitor attached to the HDMI port, but I only have a VGA one connected to the Thunderbolt port via a Mini-DisplayPort->VGA Adaptor.  No issues when running Lion with this config though.

  • Quad core upgrade.

Is it possible to upgrade a single quad core MacPro to a eight core? It is a 2.8Ghz single quad core mac pro.
    Thanks,

Scott Yes but is not worth the trouble. Sell the single and buy a Dual. I have a single and if you do not
do video it is speedy enough (Macworld benchmarks).

  • Asus quad core upgrade

Hi. Quick question here: I'm looking to buy the Asus G51VX-RX05 gamer but would like to upgrade the CPU from the currnet duo core to a quad core.  Anyone know if this is possible and, if so, how much extra?
    Many thanks in advance.

The Asus G71GX is an amazing laptop in my opinion.

  • Duo Core Vs Quad Core upgrade question

Looking for some solid answers on what improvements if any that a Quad Core (Q9650 3ghz) CPU would have ove a Duo Core (Q6850  3ghz) in Ppro CS4.Especially when it comes to AVCHD editing. Any thoughts as to this upgrade would be worth it?

Harm is correct, look at the Premiere Pro CS4 Benchmark (PPBM4) results and see the result for those two processors.  While you do get a small incremental inprovement it probably is not with the cost.

  • 13" or 15" is the quad core i7 and additional graphics worth the added money

I am looking to replace my 2009 13.3 macbook pro that I've upgraded with a new retina model. Regardless of which model I get it will have the 1 TB storage and 16GB Ram so really my only debate if I want to pay for the additional screen size, secondary graphics processor, and quad core cpu. I use the system for personal use, web browsing, email, itunes, and I play world of warcraft. However I also use this system for business and run parallels with a widows 7 installation running autocad (2D only), ePlan, excel, Rockwell Automation RSLogix suite and RSNetworx, as well as Siemans WinCC HMI software that utilizes a SQL Database. It is not uncommon for me to have all of the windows side apps running at once with multiple windows of each open.
I know the quad processor and the additional graphics card are better than what is available on the 13" retina but I'm not sure if I will see the difference with my usage. Should I go all the way and get the 15" with the i7 2.6GHz Quad core or settle for the 13" with the i7 2.8GHz Dual core?

    Hi eric,
In addition to the factors you mention (and yes, I think the dedicated GPU is significant), here are the GeekBench (the standard for measuring computer speed) scores for your two machines:
    13" 7899
    15" 13287
Thats a pretty big jump in performance, and yes you will notice it with most of the apps you mention, some more than others.

have the Intel HD3000 graphics like the base model with
no option, at this time, for the discrete graphics chip.  So,
depending on what you are using it for, that could be a deal
breaker.  Remember that your MBP does have a discrete
    graphics chip.
I have a 2011 Mini Server connected to a Thunderbolt display
that gets used as an engineering workstation and general
personal use (some photo editing, LP restoraton, general
internet browsing).  You simply just not enable any of the
server services.  I find the combination to work quite well
for my purposes.  I also have a 13" 2.7 GHz i7 Macbook Pro
which is pretty much strictly for work.  As far as CPU
power it is pretty much equivelent to your Mini.  For the most
part I find the Mini does outperfom my MBP.  I heavily use
Parallels and Windows7 virtual machines, so the more cores
    the better.
So, If you do a lot of CPU intensive stuff that is multithreaded,
the Server may help.  If it is graphics intensive and your software
heavily leaverages the GPU, you may actually take a hit on
    performance.

  • Incompatibility MacPro Quad-Core 2010 and AirPort Extreme for DHCP

    Hello,
I have a MacPro 2.8 Ghz Quad-Core Intel Xenon 2010 EFI 1.5, for my internet, I use an AirPort Extreme Base Station version 7.4.2.
When I try to access the internet settings of the AirPort Extreme in the DHCP, the first DHCP address does not select anything in the dropdown menu.
    Here is a picture screen:
    http://img210.imageshack.us/img210/4995/airportdhcp.jpg
I tried with a second MacPro Quad-core 2.8 Ghz and the error persists. By cons, with a MacBook Pro 3,1 or IMac 4.1, normally I go to the menu in question.
For it is impossible to modify the airport extreme settings with an error message that afirm the first IP address is invalid.
Unable to select because the menu is empty.
I really think a bug MacPro?
    Someone does have this problem?
    Thank you for your help.

It is possible that the new version of AirPort Utility may help:

"Resolves an issue that caused the DHCP settings tab to display incorrectly"
