Ssh slow inbound

Hey people,
I have for some time the problem that for one laptop the inbound speed of SSH is really slow. The authentication is not the problem. When I type a character the ssh session stalls for about 3 seconds. I reinstalled ssh, tried it without any iptables on. Outbound everything works ok.
Version
OpenSSH_6.5p1, OpenSSL 1.0.1f 6 Jan 2014
output from -vvv @ http://pastebin.com/DLRaYQ9P

I would start with a traceroute to check is packets are getting lost somewhere and then I'd use iperf to check how fast the connection is.

  • Ssh slow to get password prompt

I have noticed on my MBP that when I ssh to any server I have to wait up to and sometimes over a minute to get the password prompt. Whether I use the fqdn or the IP the results are the same.
I have searched the forums and have not found anything that appears to address this.
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks in advance.

I thought of that last night right after I posted but didn't get back to put up the information. It looks to me like it is waiting for a response from from this line:
"debug2: we sent a gssapi-with-mic packet, wait for reply"
then after about 1 minute it follows with the rest of the debug messages and prompts for my password.
    Any thoughts?

  • Aironet / WDS Packet of Disconnect (RFC3576) broken?

We have two access points. One is the WDS master. Authentication goes through it fine and RADIUS happily does it's AAA.
We rely on Packet of Disconnect (PoD) to do VLAN changes. We disconnect the user, it reconnects and AAA is performed again and a new set of VLAN attributes is returned. But the problem is that if we send to the WDS a PoD packet, the client gets disconnected but there is no new AAA Access-Request sent from the WDS. It feels like there's a cache in the AP where the client is connecting to that isn't properly invalidated when a PoD is received.
Sending the PoD directly to the AP works fine but we don't have that information in the RADIUS database.
    Candidate but rejected work-arounds:
an SNMP deauth technique that works (I couldn't find any)
a way to find the AP IP a client is connected to from SNMP on the WDS (I couldn't find any)
    Work-around to be implemented:
a way to find the AP IP of where a client is connected to from SSH (found with show wlccp wds mn detail mac-address)
I hate using SSH (slow, hard to do error handling) so I would have preferred the thing to work at first or any of the two above work-arounds.
    Am I doing something wrong?

  • RV 120W Port Fowarding and remote address

I have a RV120W; configured to perform port forwarding. I have Configured a Port Forwarding and Access Rule
    * Sample Firewall: Access Rules:
Action        | Service | Status  | Connection Type                                | Source IP | Destination IP
    Always Allow  | HTTP    | Enabled | Inbound (WAN (Internet) > LAN (Local Network)) | Any       | <not set>
    Always Allow  | SSH     | Enabled | Inbound (WAN (Internet) > LAN (Local Network)) | Any       | <not set>
    * Sample Firewall:Port Forwarding:

    Always Allow     | SSH       | Enabled |     Any    | <destination ip>    | <not set>         | <not set>
Everything works, but in my destination server, i see as remote address the IP for the RV120W. I want it to forward also the
originating IP address of the client (the remote address)
Is it possible to configure this?
I have also configured DMZ for my server, but see same behaviour

    Good morning
Hi Bruno, thanks for using our forum, my name is Johnnatan and I am part of the Small business Support community. In order to resolve your problem, I have a couple of question for you:
Which services do you want to forward?
Is your ip address static or dynamic? If it is dynamic, are you using a domain?
Could you send us a screenshoot with your firewall configuration?
Could you access to your server in your LAN?
I found a document related to Port forwarding, where you can see how to configure it:
    http://www6.nohold.net/CiscoSB/Loginr.aspx?login=1&pid=2&app=search&vw=1&articleid=2616
I hope you find this answer useful,

  • Slow Connection with FTP and SSH after a migration from 10.3.9 to 10.4.6

    Hi all,
I just move my server from 10.3.9 to 10.4.6.
I import all my users and settings.
When i try to connect to my server using FTP or SSH, the connexion is slow.
I have to wait arround 45 sec before connecting to the server ( i never wait with the old 10.3.9 )
    ex of connexion + delay
    I enter : ssh myuser@myserverip
    server : Password: ( 26 sec after i hit the return key !! )
    server : Last login: Tue May 9 11:57:03 2006 from XX.XX.XX.XX ( 2 sec after )
    server : Welcome to Darwin!
It is faster than the first time because the server must store some datas of recent connected users.
I have the same problem with FTP
    Thx for help

    I have this same problem.
I'm not sure how to set up or tweak DNS. Could someone point to where this is accomplished?
I'm not using a DNS server inside our firewall because I'm not sure how it works. I have DNS service turned off on the OS X Server.

  • Messages in inbound queue in status-RUNNING and it is too slow

    Hi Experts,
We have a issue there are tons of messages in inbound queue in status-RUNNING and it is too slow!, hence there are more messages getting in the queue every minute.
    This is Production enviorment.
    We have priority queues
    QIN is waiting status.
De-register will not work due to loss of messages fear
    Please advice
    thanks and regards,

    Hi,
If the queues are hanging due to peak load at sometimes
you can schedule following reports to restart them automatically
(dont have to lock and unlock manually)
    RSQIWKEX - Inbound Queues
    RSQOWKEX- Outbound Queues
Also you can save the first entry of the queue if its causing problems to process later- smq3

  • SSH from work machine to home machine is very slow to connect

If I try to SSH to my home computer (using its domain name or IP) from any computer on my office's network I get very long delays (using the -vv flag to debug). But if I SSH to my home machine from a computer outside of my office's network my home machine responds fine, no delays. And I can SSH from my office's network to any other remote machine no problem. It's only my home machine that is experiencing delays. I should add that I can AFP/VNC connect from my office to my home without issues either, this ONLY affects SSH connections.
Here's the output from the initial SSH attempt from my office to my home machine (I've made the info anonymous):
    OpenSSH_5.1p1, OpenSSL 0.9.7l 28 Sep 2006

    debug1: identity file /Users/username/.ssh/id_rsa type -1
    debug1: identity file /Users/username/.ssh/id_dsa type -1
Here is waits about 60 seconds before the next output.
In researching this it seems like it could be DNS issue? Any help would be appreciated. It's driving me crazy.

Well, I spent long time with Apple Phone support, they made me delete the library, move some iTunes file from Library folder on my MBP but that didn't help.
I also did reset my Apple TV, and did all the settings again. No change.
I read somewhere on this forum itself I think to remove "Share my Library on local network" option from iTunes preferences, under sharing. As per the suggestion, this is an old option, and when you have home sharing on, you don't need this to be checked. More over it causes sharing to be slow. So after I unchecked it, I ATV3 and my MBP on for about an hour, and when I came back, it was all just perfect!

  • Qt applications over ssh tunnel: very slow redrawing

I checked several Gtk and Qt applications and found that Gtk ones work almost with the "native" speed, while Qt ones with that damn slow redrawing...
I tried ssh with both "ForwardX11" and "ForwardX11Trusted" - there is no difference. I'm using no DE with xmonad WM (tried TWM - no difference either) in x86_64 box.
    Any directions/advices/ideas?

  • SSH sessions over Putty die unexpectedly & commandline entry is slow

I have a Sun Ultra-60 running Solaris 9 at patch level 118558-05. Users of this server report that their ssh sessions over Putty to this server die unexpectedly anywhere from one to two times per week. The users are usually in a vim session at the time editing php files for the website hosted on the system. Another problem reported is that the user's command line input slows dramatically and they must wait for the server to complete the line they were typing prior to proceeding.
I cannot find the source of this problem. To date, the following is what I have tried in my troubleshooting efforts.
    1) ptdiag - reports no hardware failures
    2) /var/adm/messages - reports no issues relating to the problem mentioned above.
    3) swap -l - the server has plenty of swap and shows no need for additional swap space Here is the output from swap -l
    swapfile dev swaplo blocks free
    /dev/vx/dsk/swapvol 213,6 16 8389632 8358176
I should also mention that /tmp is not full and is currently only at 2% of it's capacity.
    4) ndd shows that the link speed, duplex, etc. are correct at 100Mbps full-duplex.
    5) System uptime is at 337 days and the uptime command currently shows the following load: load average: 0.12, 0.11, 0.09
    6) vxdisk list shows the two internal mirrored disks as being online and no errors. iostat -En shows no soft or hard errors on the two disks
    7) This server only has two users and the main applications in use are mysql and apache.
    8) I have upgraded to the latest version of the vim editor and the problem still persists. I have also had the users upgrade to the latest version of Putty and to turn on the logging feature of Putty which hasn't revealed any information as to why the sessions are unexpectedly terminating.
    9) I have checked the /etc/default/login setting for the "TIMEOUT" variable which is commented out. I also checked the users profiles and verified that there are no timeout variables defined.
    10) Here is my netstat -i output:
Name Mtu Net/Dest Address Ipkts Ierrs Opkts Oerrs Collis Queue
    lo0 8232 loopback localhost 52375982 0 52375982 0 0 0

    qfe2 1500 servernameb servernameb 40944152 1 65630146 0 0 0
Some of these numbers look high, but I don't see any collisions.
Any help would be appreciated. If additional commands need to be run, please advise and I will gladly post.
    Thanks much for any assistance.

    Hi Darren,
The user's vim session dies when the users are actively typing.
As for there being a firewall or NAT device between the workstation and the server, yes, there is. The users are in one building and the server is housed in a datacenter in a separate building. The users do not have this issue with out other Solaris 8 and Solaris 10 servers...only this one particular server. A traceroute to the server takes only 5 hops and returns quickly.
As for the logs, I just checked /var/adm/messages and it is reporting the following types of messages over and over.:
    [ID 317013 daemon.notice] bpcd[11746] from some IP
I think these messages are generated from Veritas Netbackup which is administered by a separate team than what I am on, but I can have them investigate.

  • Launchctl slow on ssh to server

    Hi,
I'm running an OS X 10.5.8 server. When my users ssh into it, it can take up to about 10 seconds before they see a prompt.
I've turned on debug for ssh and see it's pausing at the "Entering interactive session", looking at the server at this point, the "launchctl" process in running for the user that just logged in.
So, can I track this down further as to why launchctl is taking about 10 seconds to start up before the ssh prompt comes back? I'm assuming it's trying to start up per-user launch daemons and agents?
Is it a known problem that launchctl is so slow? (This is especially irritating because we use the "git" scm tool over ssh!)
Thanks for any help or advice.
    Cheers,
    Steve

    Hi,
I use ssh and git daily. I don't see a delay on ssh unless I have a DHCP connection and haven't reloaded the host key in the .ssh/known_hosts file on the client. Locating the receiver of the ssh connection can be delayed if there is a DNS issue to be resolved.
You could try assigning a manual fixed IP address to the client, update the known_hosts file on the server and then perform an ssh login.
    HTH,
    Harry

  • SRP547W inbound http/ssh & NAT, plus DNS issues

    Hi,
I've just upgraded to one of these and everything appears to be working ok - except inbound http & ssh. I have two connections to the internet using the WAN interface and ADSL2. I have load balancing enabled and some rules to route outgoing traffic one way or the other. Incoming smtp, voip etc work fine.
For the life of me can't work out why http is not working (and ssh as well). After a long period of time I get a "Timeout on gateway" message in the browser.
As an aside the Policy Routing won't allow me to save a port or port range. When I save the page, it sets the port to "0". Ideally I only want to route smtp and voip traffic over ADSL and have everything else go through the WAN connection.
    Firmware Version:
    1.02.01 (023) Aug 12 2011
    ADSL Firmware Version:
    0.72.0
    Thanks,
    Brendon.

I have also discovered another issue with DNS. My mail server now takes ~60 seconds to reply to an initial connection, eg
    # telnet my.mail.server 25
    Trying 1xx.2xx.2xx.2xx...
    Connected to
    my.mail.server.
    Escape character is '^]'.
    >>>> ONE MINUTE DELAY <<<<
220 my.mail.server - Welcome to Qmail Toaster Ver. 1.3 SMTP Server ESMTP
The mail server was configured to use the SRP's DNS. When I edited resolv.conf on that server and changed it to use the google public DNS, connection was almost instant. I believe the issue was to do with name resolution when interrogating the DNSBL blacklists.
    I can't believe:
    a) I'm having so many basic problems with this router
    b) Noone has responded ?!
I bought a Cisco because I mistakenly thought it was the best around. A "business class" product.

  • Very slow ssh during ftp transfers

I regularly use two computers, a fileserver/mediabox and a laptop. The fileserver is gentoo and the laptop is arch, both with custom kernels and only base networking support. Often, I download some music or videos onto one computer, and then want to send it to the other. I have been running an ftp server on the desktop for this purpose. Ftp seems to be quite a lot faster than scp for large file transfers - I get something like 6 MB/s as opposed to 800 KB/s. Often, when I initiate such a transfer, Im also logged into the desktop from the laptop via ssh. During a transfer, the ssh session will become so sluggish that it might as well be frozen. My question is, is there a way to fix this?
at 6 Megabytes/s, my 100 Megabit connection shouldn't be saturated. Cpu load on both computers is fine, and they otherwise both seem totally responsive. Is this some sort of packet schedualing issue? Do I need a packet scheduler? Neither system uses one (besides the default fifo) I noticed that the arch default kernel had all this stuff built as modules. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks.

    1) You could have a shitty, cheap switch that doesnt have the capacity you think it does.
    2) SCP uses encryption, which takes longer/has greater overhead. If you are working on a local LAN that you are relatively sure is 'more or less' safe, then you can try other ciphers. I have had excellent speed/performance from rc4, a stream cipher (the openssh implementation appears to be safe, as I believe they throw away the first many bits of the cipher output...a known problem with rc4/security).
    3) Check your sshd_config (server) and ssh_config (client) files to see if you have compression turned on by default. Compression makes it slower, but it is compressed..not much use for already compressed files like zips and bz's, and not really needed for local lan transfers.

  • Ssh access very slow to some accounts

I have OS X Server 10.6.2 up and running. If I ssh from a client machine to the server as the admin user, I get a password prompt, and on entering the password I immediately get to a shell prompt. If I do the same but specify another user, I get a password prompt and then there is a long wait of about a minute after entering the password before I get a shell prompt.
I believe I have DNS set up correctly. Both forward and reverse DNS is working for both addresses on my local network and for external addresses. Running the "sudo changeip -checkhostname" command shows no problems.
On examining the logs I see a few worrying looking entries such as:
Dec 14 11:10:39 mms edu.mit.Kerberos.CCacheServer[1478]: launchctl start error: No such process
But I still see that the user that saw the long delay before logging in successfully has valid Kerberos tickets, as per the output of the "klist" command:
    mms:~ sh$ klist
Kerberos 5 ticket cache: 'API:Initial default ccache'
    Default principal: [email protected]
    Valid Starting Expires Service Principal
    12/14/09 11:31:04 12/14/09 21:31:04 krbtgt/[email protected]
    renew until 12/15/09 11:30:33
    12/14/09 11:31:34 12/14/09 21:31:04 host/[email protected]
    renew until 12/15/09 11:30:33
Which would imply that Kerberos is doing its job correctly?
Any suggestions about what might be causing the delays I'm seeing and what I might do to correct the problem?

I'm still struggling with this and drawing a blank searching for similar reports. Does anyone else see this problem? I'm beginning to suspect it might be something unique to my setup.
To add a further piece of information, the home directory of the account which is slow to connect to is an afp mount and the first thing I see in the system log after the long delay is a line like the following:
Feb 9 11:21:36 mms sshd[50749]: afp home directory mount succeeded
A pwd run from this account shows:
    /Network/Servers/mms.marske.local/Users/sh
and the mount command shows the following info:
map -fstab on /Network/Servers (autofs, automounted, nobrowse)
I was thinking that maybe it was the afp automount that was taking so long except for two things.
    1) The disk is local to the server, and
    2) If I logout of this account an issue the command "ls /Network/Servers/mms.marske.local/Users/sh" from another account, the directory listing returns immediately.
    Any thoughts?

  • Slow download in ssh session

Hi, I hope someone could shed some light on this one...
The setup: 2 boxes, one acting as ssh client, the other one as ssh server.
The problem: When I ssh to my box on the internet, any download initiated through ssh is painfully slow, only about 40 or 50 KB/s. Only when I download or upload files from/to this box without ssh, the speed is normal, that is a few MB/s.
    Examples:
    From my client box:
    scp filename servername:~
The file is uploaded fast, as expected.
    From my client box:
    wget servername/somefile
The file is downloaded fast, as expected.
    From my server box:
    wget somefile_on_internet
    or
    pacman -Syu
Download is fast only if I do this from local session (with keyboard attached to the server directly). When I do the same from ssh session, download is slow.
In any other aspect, ssh is working fine, I don't have any noticeable delay when typing and executing commands.
    Thanks!

I am using ecdsa. I am not sure about the key length, but judging from file size I think it is 521 bits.
I checked CPU usage on the server while downloading through ssh, and it is almost zero, 99% idle. Same on the client.

  • Gnome over SSH Painfully slow

    Hello all!
Since recently upgrading to Tarantella 4, and have found that Gnome sessions
over SSH to Redhat ES3 systems have become extremely slow. We can compare
this performance change with Tarantella 3.42 because we have one of our
original array members with exactly the same ens configuration as our new
    TTA4 array.
Would someone mind helping me with this?
    Kind thanks in advance!

Actually, this problem crashes the server.
Can anyone help me with this? Have there been any changes to the way
Tarantella connects to a XWindows server over SSH?
    Thanks
