Start the J2EE SDK in the foreground on Windows

I have upgraded my development AS from Sun ONE 7 to J2EE SDK 8.1. One feature I miss most is: 7 used to live in a "Command Prompt" box where I could watch the log go by and sometimes press Ctrl+Break for a full thread dump.
Apparently 8.1 starts everything as a background process, and Windows lacks the equivalents of "tail -f server.log" and "kill -QUIT <pid>".
Is there a way to start 8.1 in the foreground, so that I can watch the log in real-time and generate a thread dump?

You are right, domain creation requires config/asenv.bat file to be in place.
It is possible that asenv.bat file did not get created properly due to incomplete uninstallation of the previous installation. To start from the scratch, follow the instructions in section 3 of this article:
https://j2ee-sdk.dev.java.net/howtos/J2EE_SDK_Installation_HOWTO.html#p3
(so, either install in a different location or cleanup component registration info).
If installation on the clean system fails again please post any errors.

  • Can NOT start the dispatcher on windows NT

We installed a SAP system on NT.

Please input your experience. Thanks with points.

there are no services called DISPATCHER.
please provide the exact service name you are trying to start. it should look like SAPPRD_00.
check pathname/executable of this service, this file must exist.
as a last resort, copy this executable path and past it in a Command prompt. you might get more meaningful error messages that will help you fix this.

You're going to have a lot of pain unless you upgrade to Windows 2000 or XP.
In the mean time, set your environment size much larger (google for "Out of
environment space") and use WinOne from http://www.cia.com.au/luke/ ...
that's how I scraped by on Windows 98 for a while.

Ive just upgraded my late 2009 macbook, and things are not working properly. First of all, when I started the computer first time after installing Mountain Lion, some message advised me that some files were impossible to install. Once I wrote my password, and for now on, everytime I start the session, another window advise me that "Java SE 6" is missing, due that, the computer can't run some "CS5Service Manager". If I try to install it, the download ends with an error. If finally, you skip the istallation, you arrive to the dock, but the menu bar at the top of the screen doesn't show up.
In addition, my trackpad doesn't works either. I can move the arrow but i can't click anywhere, probably because the option of clicking by touching is disabeled and I can't performance a regular click.
I'll be very glad if someone know what the heck is happening with my computer. Anyway, I'm going to the genius bar next Saturday. Thx!

    We're sorry.

I am curious to know why does this error message arise.

To start the database in windows you have to start first the OracleService<SID> service.
These are the steps that you have to do at the command line:
    NET START OracleService<SID>
    SET ORACLE_SID=<database sid>
    sqlplus /nolog
    conn sys/password as sysdba

  • Using J2EE 1.4 Beta 2 on Windows 98 and Windows Me

I know J2EE isn't supported on Windows 98 and Windows Me, but like many others I've been able to get J2EE 1.3.1 and J2EE 1.4 Beta to work quite well on Windows 98 and Windows Me. However, no such luck when I tried to do the same with J2EE 1.4 Beta 2. Basically, after downloading j2eesdk-1_4-beta2-windows-eval-app.zip, extracting it into C:\j2ee_app_win, and double clicking setup.exe (or setup.dos.exe for that matter), the setup GUI doesn't appear. Has anybody gotten passed this point and gotten it to work?

Basically, J2EE 1.4 Beta 2 setup.exe doesn't work on Windows 98 or Windows Me even with 256 MB of memory. You'll see it appear on the task bar and then disappear right away. The setup task keeps running, so you have to kill it with Ctrl-Alt-Del.
However, J2EE 1.4 Beta 2 does work quite well on Windows XP Home Edition even though it's not supported by Sun. So if you don't have Windows XP Professional or Windows 2000, you can at least try it.
For help installing and getting started with J2EE 1.4 Beta 2 on Windows XP, see http://groups.msn.com/J2EETools.

  • Starting the J2EE server

    Hi:
I am new to J2EE and I followed the instruction on the J2EE Tutorial setting up the J2EE SDK. When I tried to start the J2EE server by typing in "C:\j2ee -verbose", the server can't seem to start... After it gets to "Starting JMS service..." , it jumps back to the command prompt "C:\>"
If I then try to do a "j2ee -stop", I get an error "javax.naming.CommunicationException: Can't find SerialContextProvider" (which, I think, indicates the server never got started)
I am using Windows 2000 and I am pretty sure I have the environment variables set properly. Does anyone know why this is happening? Thanx!
The following is the trace of me doing "j2ee -verbose"

  • Resin with the j2ee sdk

i'm using resin as my server. i set the build.properties to c:\resin-x-xx, but the libs are all in jar files. how do i get ant to recognise all the jar files in the lib folder?

what "server"? J2EE SDK also IS a J2EE server (start and stop it via batch scripts). the only third party product is the Cloudscape database engine from IBM if you like to call it a server.

    Hi George,
    Thnx for your reply.
I have stopped all Application servers and kept only the CI-DB instances running.Retried deploying the ESS packages but still getting the same error.
Have checked the Visual admin,it is not in SAFE mode,it working normally.
Have alos checked the CLUSTER Manager Property Values in both Visual Admin & Config Tool, they are alright.
About the Cluster Resources, can you pls specify what exactly do you mean by "Cluster Resources are running or not".
I think if the application servers are stopped, then the Cluster resources shudnt come into play right?? Correct me if I am wrong.
Kindly suggest what other steps I shud take.
    Regards,
