Starting oc4j as user root on HPUX

Hello
I want to start and stop oc4j-service as user root on hpux 11.23. Starting and stopping as oracle (/oracle/product/jdeveloper/jdev/bin/start_oc4j and stop_oc4j) works fine, but I have to start it automatically as a hpux Serviceguard cluster package. Has anyone any idea?
Regards!

execute rootinst.sh against agent home.

  • Solaris Weblogic 8.1 Server - starting Weblogic as non-root user

    Hello,
    Currently we are starting weblogic 8.1 server as the root user, but would like to start as a non-root user.
    (our unix team isn't too happy giving us, the dev team the root password!).
    Is it possible to start Weblogic 8.1 on Solaris 8 without the root password?...If so, can you point me, where I can find more information in the documentation, please.
    thanx,
    Vishwa

    If you have managed to boot the server before in the past you should have a config.xml.booted file in your domain. Try using this to boot, if it works you can diff it with your possibly mashed config.xml to see what went wrong.

    In searching the forum I've only found a couple of things that look similar and they suggest the problem is caused when a project is upgraded. The suggested solution is running the project in JDK 1.5. (see Error Attempting to Run JSP with 10.1.3.0.3.3412
    However, my project is a new project, created in 10.1.3, and in the project properties --> compiler settings, I've got the source and target set to 1.4. There hasn't been any upgrade to speak of, and my production environment is JDK 1.4.
    I get the same error upon creating a new web application, creating a JSF, placing some Output Text on the page and then attempting to run it.
    Does anyone have any idea how to fix this? If I can't run new applications, I'm in trouble...
    Thanks,
    Andy

    Thanks for the response, Shay.
    I was able to get the server to start up by changing the setting in Project Properties --> Libraries --> J2SE Version to 1.5.
    Are you saying, then, that regardless of which version of JDK you use to compile your project (Project Properties --> Compiler --> Source & Target, both 1.4 in my case), in order to run it on the embedded OC4J server you have to use 1.5 in the setting above? I just want to understand this so that I can be sure that my app will run on my production app server, which runs JDK 1.4. That's what I was referring to as "my production environment" in my original post.
    Thanks again,
    Andy

    Okay, so I'm attempting to run a listener on port 443 which requires root privileges. When I set the user to root it accepts it just fine but when I start the listener, the log file says: Error: Failed to find the User ( root ) in /etc/password. If I try any other user it tells me they don't have privileges for that port. Any clues hear are appreciated.

  • Using PuTTY to start OC4J -- X connection "gotcha"

    Hi,
    I came across this last night to my own surprise.
    I use PuTTY to ssh into servers here, and to do the OBIEE installation in graphical mode I also installed Cygwin X window manager on my MS Windows laptop. I then went into PuTTY settings and enabled X11 packet forwarding to get the gui from linux appear in my Microsoft Windows. Once I installed OBIEE, I kept the PuTTY settings unchanged.
    On the linux server, I issued the following command to start OC4J:
    nohup ./oc4j -start > nohup_oc4j_start.out &
    What I discovered was that as soon as I stopped Cygwin on my Windows laptop the OC4J process on the linux server died with the following message at the end of the log file:
    "X connection to localhost:10.0 broken (explicit kill or server shutdown)."
    I then tried to use PuTTY alone to ssh into the linux server and start OC4J without Cygwin running on my laptop, but the result was the same.
    The solution was to disable X11 forwarding in PuTTY temporarily then ssh into the server and start OC4J. Then I could turn off my laptop and go home without affecting OC4J on the server.
    Thought this info might be useful to someone.
    -sb

    Thanks sb.
    I also noticed the same reaction when trying to start and OMB shell through Putty.
    When executing $OWB_HOME/owb/bin/unix/OMBPlus.sh I got the "X connection to localhost broken" message.
    I then did and "su - oracle" and tried the same thing and it worked. I initially thought it was user rights issue. Then I came across this thread and I setup another connection in Putty but with no "X11 forwarding" and all worked like magic.

  • Unable to start OC4J standalone server.

    Hi
    I have just started using Oracle 10g Portal Server. I have downladed the OC4J standalone and have installed at D:\JDeveloper\oc4j following the instructions of running the admin.jar creating the password. When I try starting the OC4J initializing it works fine starts the server with the message
    05/12/29 12:21:11 Oracle Containers for J2EE 10g (10.1.3.0.0) - Developer Preview 4 initialized
    But when I try to deploy a war file which I have created externally with the entries in aplication.xml
    <web-module id="mywar" path="../applications/mywar.war" />
    and default-web-site.xml
    <web-app application="default" name="mywar" root="/technology/mywar" />
    The server never starts up just hangs up with the message
    Starting OC4J from D:\JDeveloper\oc4j\j2ee\home ...
    If the entries are removed the server starts as usual.
    Can anyone let me know where is the problem I need to look at, because the war file works fine if deployed in tomcat or weblogic.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
    As you asked me it is a simple war deployment. with the folder structure as
    simpleWar->index.jsp
    simpleWar->META-INF->application.xml
    simpleWar->WEB-INF->classes
    simpleWar->WEB-INF->lib
    simpleWar->WEB-INF->tld

    simpleWar->WEB-INF->validation.xml
    simpleWar->WEB-INF->validator-rules.xml
    simpleWar->WEB-INF->web.xml
    and the war file that I am creating is simpleWar.war.

    Moises,
    The error you posted looks like an XML error. Check to verify the well-formedness (I don't like that word!) of the server.xml.
    The beginning of your server.xml file should look like:
    <?xml version="1.0"?>
    <application-server  xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xsi:noNamespaceSchemaLocation="http://xmlns.oracle.com/oracleas/schema/application-server-10_1.xsd"  application-directory="../applications"
    check-for-updates="adminClientOnly"
    deployment-directory="../application-deployments"
    connector-directory="../connectors"
    schema-major-version="10" schema-minor-version="0" >This must be closed, with </<application-server> at the end of your server XML file. This is the root element of your server.xml.

  • How to Keep the "Start OC4J instance" window or Forms Server always up 24*7

    Gurus -
    Can you please tell me how could I have the "Start OC4J instance" always up and running in my server. I want the Forms server ( 10g) up and running all the the time. please advice how could I do that. My DB is 11g and using the Oracle Devsuite 10g. Please advice
    Gurus - Can you please advice on this. Basically have developed a form and couple of users want to access that but get error " page cannot be displayed" and I figured out the "Start OC4J instance" windows gets closed automatically after some hours.
    so I wanted this OC4J instance to run 24*7 ( always) without closing by itself. Please advice how could I do that.
    Thanks
    Sheik

    Thanks a lot Steve,
    Just wanted to find out if there is no other work around on this except to have the Oracle App Forms server to install and up and running?
    I have 11g DB , so do I have to have 11g Oracle Apps Server or 10g Oracle apps server will be sufficient as the installed Devsuite is in 10g. Please advice
    OR
    Is there way we can setup this Oracle Apps forms server from the OEM console? or we have to do a seperate install for this Apps server.
    Other option I thought, which I am not sure will work out is the creat a scheduled task in windows and have this "Start OC4j Instance" scheduled to run always. Any ideas/commments on this.
    Thanks again for your inputs.
    Rgds

  • Start slapd as user

    The start-slapd process fails with permission denied when trying to start it with user specified at install time. Only root appears to be able to successfully start it successfully.
    the iplanet/bin/slapd/server directory is only accessbile by root. the permissions were drwx------ I noticed other directories within the bin/slapd directory had permission of drwxr-xr-x I changed the server directory to reflect this.
    Starting the start-slapd process again, succeeded in getting up the ldap server in non-ssl mode, it failed to startup in ssl mode. I checked the alias directory (containing the certs) but this was owned by the user.
    any ideas??

    Please search for other similar posts on the forum as I have seen similar threads here before.

  • [solved]can't start gnome as user

    I can't start gnome as user  only as root.
    error message: failed to create file /tmp/gconf-test-locking-file-kx6h6t:Permission denied (error=13)
    I think this is an pacman error (permissions)
    I made an clean install  because   last pacman -Syu  crash my os.
    And i  get the error as above so i can't get it to work.
    I also tried to run enlightment but several applications don't start.
    How to solve this?
    Solution was i wiki :chmod 1777 /tmp

    error message: failed to create file /tmp/gconf-test-locking-file-kx6h6t:Permission denied (error=13)
    this is the problem, it states that it can't create a file because of a lack of permissions to do so. Its trying to create the file in /tmp, so that tells us that /tmp directory has permissions that aren't correct or gnome would work. What u need to do is
    ls -ld /tmp
    and post the results here so someone can tell u how to put the correct permissions up.
    edit: I see u found the answer yourself.

  • [solved] mysql suddenly access denied for user root ..

    Hi folk,
    I am in total panic right now!
    As of an hour ago i suddenly got 'Error establishing a database connection' from all of my sites
    I then first tried to login through phpmyadmin but got #1045 Cannot log in to the MySQL server
    I then tried to login through the terminal but got ERROR 1045 (28000): Access denied for user 'root'@'localhost' (using password: YES)
    I am not really sure where to find solutions because primarily this error is on new installs:
    I have tried the following :

    OK super random, it works now.
    First off I too took and added skip-grant-tables to [mysqld] /etc/mysql/my.cnf
    restarted mysqld and finally had passwordless login. From within mysql i ran
    UPDATE mysql.user SET Password=PASSWORD('password') WHERE User='root';
    FLUSH PRIVILEGES;

    Using the OTN2 tech preview build 4684 now available on OTN, I used the JDEVHOME/jdev/bin/start_oc4j script to startup the embedded server in standalone mode and cannot reproduce these errors.
    Can you try with build 4684 from OTN and see if the same issue still reproduces?
    If so, does it occur even before ever deploying any applications of your own to the instance?
