Static vs Dynamic

Question

From what I understand a static method is used for when you want to access functions of the class that the instantiated version of it doesn't have access to..
like um..
public static myClass {
     public static countMonkeys(){ ...}
     public static distBanana(){...}
}so that you can say:
myClass.countMonkeys()
but why would you want to be able to access methods at a static class level?
In relation to this i am trying to figure out what affect
a static inner class has on an instantiated outer class or a static outer class..
any ideas?

Firstly it should really be MyClass, always start classes with caps,
why would you want a static method ? you need it so you can access a class or method without having to have a instance of that class, the most common place ive see it used is System out for example
int a  = 1;
int b = 2;
int c = a + b;
System.out.println("Ans: " + c);i dont need an instance of System to call out.println, you can also use static classes and methods in factories so you can reduce the dependancies between classes
