Stopping the schema stats gathering process

Hi,
I have a large schema in my DB (7 TBs) on which I had triggered a UNIX background job to compute the statistics on that schema. The SQL which i had used was:
EXEC DBMS_UTILITY.ANALYZE_SCHEMA('<<schema_name>>','COMPUTE');
However, since the size of the schema is quite big, this stats computation process is running since the last 7 hours and I am not sure about the time it would take to finish with this process.
My questions are as below:
1. Is there any method to determine the status of this stats computation process?
2. If I kill this background job because i now have to run other data loading jobs on the schema and I dont want them to error out because of the exclusive locks on those objects, will it affect the DB performance in any way?
3. If i kill this background process, will the entire stats computation process be rolled back or would it be stopped at the place from where it was halted?
Kindly advice.
Thanks in advance.

Hi,
Thanks for the prompt response. I agree that i should be using dbms_stats and estimate for computing the schema stats. I re-analyzed the tables under the schema yeterday and hence i hope i should not face the incorrect cardinality info problem now.
However, I am facing another problem with the DB now. As a result of the data loading operation on the table, i see that all the subsequent DML operations are now taking a long log time to complete, typically 30 mins for a 10 seconds operation earlier.
What do you suggest is causing the problem and needs rectification?
Thanks in advance.

    In which case it'll be that Access has a different date format to MySQL, and you're trying to push the string "'25-Apr-12 10:55 PM" into Access, which it's not understanding. To get around this, you need to treat your variable as a true date/time object, rather than a formatted string.
    CFQueryParams should be used on absolutely every database platform, they'll stop your website being vulnerable to SQL Injection attacks for one, which at the moment you're wide open to. Replace your query with something like this:
    <cfquery name="input_comments" datasource="#DSN#" username="#DSNUSER#" password="#DSNPASS#">
          INSERT INTO comments(
                             commenter,
                             comment,
                             datetime,
                             post_id
                   VALUES(
                             <cfqueryparam cfsqltype="cf_sql_varchar" value="#form.commenter#" />,
                             <cfqueryparam cfsqltype="cf_sql_varchar" value="#form.comment#" />,
                             now(),
                             <cfqueryparam cfsqltype="cf_sql_numeric" value="#form.post_id#" /> )
    </cfquery>
    The QueryParams will handle the data types for you, and should pass values around more safely and with fewer issues. Assuming you just want to store the current date and time you don't even need to get ColdFusion involved, as databases have their own functions for this. I believe Access' version is simply NOW(), so I've put that in your query.
    Give the above a go.

  • What is the 'U' state in process listings from 'ps'

    Argh argh argh argh argh.
    Right.
    So I am using two Mac OS X Server 10.3.9 boxes (xServes) as backup machines, one for an office and one for a colo site. Work great with some custom scripts to do the heavy lifting, and it all calls rsync, which works like a champ. Except twice now, the backups have finished copying all the files, and then the last rsync (the big one) hasn't exited properly. Or, rather, it hasn't exited at all. If I do a 'ps', it appears in the process listing with a status of 'U', which isn't even listed in the manual page for ps.
    rsync 1 has a parent of my backup script
    rsync 2 has a parent of rsync 1
    rsync 3 has a parent of rsync 2
    If I kill rsync 1, nothing happens. If I kill -HUP rsync 1, nothing happens. If I kill -9 rsync 1, NOTHING HAPPENS.
    If I kill rsync 2, rsync 3 dies. If I kill -HUP rsync 2 (after rsync 3 is gone), nothing happens. If I kill -9 rsync 2, it turns into a zombie process.
    I don't know what happens if I kill rsync 3.
    If I kill the parent process to rsync 1, I don't get any of the useful information about what went wrong and what didn't in my backups. The frustrating thing is, before it got into this wedged position, it FINISHED EVERYTHING. So I'm getting notifications that my backup didn't work, when it did, and not getting notifications of the two (minor) errors that DID occur.
    Sometimes I hate computers.

    Adam,
    it mean that the process is in the kernel, and waiting on some event. And is ignoring any interruptions like signals. Which is the kill command isn't getting the processes attention. It's possible that the process may resume at some point or not. if the process doesn't switch back to a user context, then the only way to get rid of the it, and thus free the resources that it's using, would be a system reboot.

    from the ps(1) manpage.
    state The state is given by a sequence of letters, for example,
    ``RWNA''. The first letter indicates the run state of the
    process:
    I Marks a process that is idle (sleeping for longer than
    about 20 seconds).
    R Marks a runnable process.
    S Marks a process that is sleeping for less than about 20
    seconds.
    T Marks a stopped process.
    U Marks a process in uninterruptible wait.
    Z Marks a dead process (a ``zombie'').

  • How to stop the triggering of a process task

    Hi
    I have one child form details and the correspnding task to add user to the child form is 'add user to details'
    When I am provisioning a user i am adding the child form field ,its a multivalued attribute and after the user got created the child values are also populated . But after I have added the task 'add user to details' that is also triggering on the call of create user that i dont want actually . I need that task only to update the child form after the user got provisioned not in the create user scenario.So please tell me how to restrict the triggering of that task during create user
    thanks in advance

    802390 wrote:
    thx for the response
    that task is conditional only..the thing is i dont want to trigger that task after create user coz already Im adding the child values with the createUser api so no need to update the child form again with the same values.I wrote the task 'add user to details ' for the further updation of child form ,not at the time of create user
    Edited by: 802390 on Nov 22, 2010 1:21 AMYou wanna say that your Create User task is adding roles/groups data in Target Resource itself.
    Now you have made another task just to modify child data records.
    I'll say that it is wrong. You'll face issues as you are directly inserting data into target without updation of child form which is against Audit and Compliance.
    It would be better if you make separate task for Creating User and Adding Multivalued data into target application.
    Anyways,
    Add your second task with proper trigger on Child Form like insert/update.
    Go to Create User task and remove all dependency which triggers your second task.

  • How to Stop the process chain if it in the middle of the process?

    Hi,
    Is there anyway that i can stop the process chain if it is in the middle of the process already?
    Raj

    "Hi,
    First and foremost let me advice you to be very careful while doing this.
    You can start from SM37, find the process WID/PID then go to SM50 or SM51 and kill it. Once its done come back to RSMO and check the request, it should be red but again manually force to red and save by clicking on the total status button in the status tab. This shuld ensure that the process is killed properly.
    The next step will be to go to targets that you were loading and remove the red requests from those targets.
    Note: For source system loads you may have to check if the request is running in the source system and kill if needed and pull it again.
    But for BW datamart delta loads u may have reset the datamarts in case u are going to pull the delta again.
    Different Ways to stop process chain
    1)SM37 -->Kill Job
    2)SM50/sm66- ->Kill process
    3)RSPC>Job Log>Make the process RED forecefully.
    4)RSPC>Process chain> main Menu"Remove from Scheduling" OR
    5)se37-->RSPC_API_CHAIN_INTERRUPT
    give RFC BW system name(technical) and process chain name(technical)
    Steps 1 -3 stops the chain running in process
    Steps 4-5 stops the chain AFTER the current job which is running is completed as sucessful or Failure by nature.
    Rationale - 4-5
    This function will only remove the jobs from schedule, which did not yet run. It will not kill running jobs, as this may leave the system in an inconsistent state, moreover killing processes is possible for synchronous processes only anyhow. This means, that there will be no errors with interrupted chains, which on the other
    hand means an interrupted chain is not restartable. So for a running chain this function is intended to be an emergency break only. You can use it, however, to remove a scheduled chain from schedule, such that it does not start except by your product.

  • Exclude MV Table from gather schema stats

    Hey,
    I am running the daily stats gathering procedure below.
    But it is running at the same time with an MV that is refreshing,and it's failing due to that.
    Is it possible to exclude the Materialized view from the below schema stats procedure?
    BEGIN
    dbms_stats.gather_schema_stats(ownname=>'SCOTT',estimate_percent=>dbms_stats.auto_sample_size,degree=>2);
    END;
    This is running on Oracle 10.2.1.0, on Linux env.

    You could lock the statistics onto the tables you don't want to re-gather stats : dbms_stats.lock_table_stats
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/appdev.102/b14258/d_stats.htm#i1043993
    Then run the mentioned command will not compute stats on those objects.

  • How to stop an idoc from being processed further

    Hi Experts,
    I have a requirement where i have to stop the idoc from being processed in an user exit.
    I have to stop the idoc and give a suitable status message over there.
    It would be highly helpful if anybody tells me how to stop the idoc abruptly and giv the status messsage.
    Thanks in advance.
    Praveen.

    Hi,
    Check the below link
    https://forums.sdn.sap.com/click.jspa?searchID=11810720&messageID=3032674
    You need to find aproper EXIT.
    The avaliable options for you in the exit is
    IDOC_DATA
    Now if i pick the segment having shiped qty from the data record and check the same with the delivery qty your objective is half done.
    When the condition fails you need to update the IDOC with Error 51 saying that this is not possible .
    for that you need to bring your logic as
    LOOP AT IDOC_CONTROL.
    PERFORM LOGIC...
    ENDLOOP.
    FOR LOGIC .
    All the criteria and then update the status of the IDOC then error is generated and updated to the IDOc.
    PERFORM updatestatusidoc.
    endform logic.
    like this in
    form updatestatusidoc.
    IF subrc = 0 .
    t_idoc_status-docnum = f_idoc_contrl-docnum.
    t_idoc_status-status = c_idoc_status_ok.
    t_idoc_status-msgty = 'S'. -
    >denotes success
    t_idoc_status-msgid = 'ZXXX'.
    t_idoc_status-msgno = '000'. "
    t_idoc_status-msgv1 = itab-field.
    APPEND t_idoc_status.
    ELSEIF subrc = 1.
    t_idoc_status-docnum = f_idoc_contrl-docnum.
    t_idoc_status-status = c_idoc_status_error.
    t_idoc_status-msgty = 'E'. "denotes --->error
    t_idoc_status-msgid = 'ZXXX'.
    t_idoc_status-msgno = '001'. "
    t_idoc_status-msgv1 = itab-field.
    APPEND t_idoc_status.
    endif.
    endform.
    this has to be done to make the idoc to trigger error mode.

    Raj.

  • I accidentally hit the stop (x) button when the "empty secure trash" process was going on. Have I screwed up my computer? Can I continue the "Empty Secure Trash" later?

    I was cleaning my caches which was taking forever to clean up. (more than 4 hours). I accidentally hit the stop (x) button when the "empty secure trash" process was going on. Have I screwed up my computer? Can I continue the "Empty Secure Trash" later?

    Just restart your computer.   Then go to Finder menu and change 'Secure empty trash' to Empty trash.
    Unless you work with state secrets you really don't need secure empty trash which takes seven times longer to do its job.    Empty trash is fine for all but the afore-mentioned secret files.

  • BACKUP LOG suddenly failed with Msg 35250, Level 16, State 11 The connection to the primary replica is not active. The command cannot be processed.

    I have AlwaysOn SQL 2012 Enterprise set-up using Windows Failover Clustering Services (not FCI), and have 1 Primary node (P), 1 Synchronous Commit Auto Failover (SC), and 1 Asynchronous Commit Manual Failover (AC) node.  It is set up to prefer secondary,
    with the highest priority given to AC node.
    I am using Ola Hollengren's scripts for Database Maintenance jobs, including a native BACKUP LOG job for the transaction logs of all user databases on a 1 minute schedule.  His scripts already consider AlwaysOn, and although the job is set-up on all
    3 nodes, only ever runs on AC node.
    The job has been running successfully since initial set-up almost 1 year ago, but suddenly yesterday morning started to fail with the following error, only on 1 of the 13 databases in my availability group:
    Date and time: 2014-06-08 09:36:11
    Command: BACKUP LOG [my_db] TO DISK = N'E:\MSSQL\\Transaction Dumps\my_db\MySQLCL$MySQLAG_my_db_20140608_093610_U_LOG.trn' WITH CHECKSUM, COMPRESSION
    Msg 35250, Level 16, State 11, Server AC, Line 1
    The connection to the primary replica is not active.  The command cannot be processed.
    Msg 3013, Level 16, State 1, Server AC, Line 1
    BACKUP LOG is terminating abnormally.
    Outcome: Failed
    Duration: 00:01:00
    The other 12 databases continued to backup successfully.
    Checking the Availability Group dashboard, windows event logs, and SQL Server error logs, including Failover Cluster events showed no issues.
    However, monitoring software (Idera SQLdm) showed blocked sessions on P node.  When I ran sp_who2, it showed that a background process was being blocked by another background process with an HADR BACKUP LOCK.
    Since both processes were background processes, I was unable to kill either process.  I temporarily disabled the transaction log backup job, but the blocked process was still active.
    I ran DBCC CHECKDB (my_db) WITH all_errormsgs, no_infomsgs, data_purity on both P and AC nodes, with no errors.  However, on AC node, it also showed 1 transaction rolled forward and 0 transactions rolled back.  This also had the effect of releasing
    the blocked background process, but another background process was now blocking with the same HADR BACKUP LOCK.
    I tried to restart SQL Server Agent on AC node, which did not immediately seem to work.  However, after a few minutes, I noticed that the block had disappeared.  I re-enabled the transaction log backup job on AC and it started working normally
    again.  The error has not occurred again, but I am at a loss as to what happened, and how to prevent it from happening again.
    Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Diane

  • Replace the obsolete statement STOP

    Hi expert ,
    I am working for a upgrade project fron 4.7 to ECC. We need to replace the obsolete statement STOP. Which is the best statement to replace STOP(RETURN or  EXIT)
    Thanks and Regards
    Joby Jacob

    HI STOP leaves the current event block and trigger END-OF-SELECTION.
    SAP recommend using EXIT only within loops (see EXIT - loops ). Instead, use RETURN to leave processing blocks.
    So RETURN seems to be better option.

  • How can I call a Page Process from the Select statement for Report Page

    I'm able to call a javascript using the below:
    img src="#IMAGE_PREFIX#add2.gif" border="0" alt="Icon 4" onClick="javascript:add_connect1('||CPORT.ID||')"
    But Now,
    I'd like to accomplish (2) New things:
    1. instead of using,....... onClick="javascript:add_connect1,
    I'd like to call a Page Process, onClick=
    2. I'd like to be able to call two different processes onClick.
    a. onClick="javascript:passBack('||ID||')"
    b. onClick= <Please see my question #1 above>
    Can someone please help me with the syntax for this,
    If indeed it can even be done?
    Thanks- Gary

    Greg.
    It seems that my situation is the one you describe in you second paragraph, where you mention:
    you could then add the ID column value as a parameter to the javascript functionBut,
    I do not know how to reference the variable in my javascript nor how to use it in my on-demand process.
    If you can hellp me past this last little bump, then I think I will be able to use these skills in Sooo many different areas of my design.
    Here's what I've got so far:
    A. In the select statement I identify the javascript as:
    onClick="javascript:connect_port('<font color=blue>''||ID||''</font>')";
    B. In my javascript I have this:
    <script language="JavaScript" type="text/javascript">
    function connect_port(ID)
    var get = new htmldb_Get(null,$x('pFlowId').value,'APPLICATION_PROCESS=CONNECT_PORT',0);
    gReturn = get.get();
    get = null;
    </script>
    C. In my on demand function I have this:
    BEGIN
    INSERT INTO CCONNECTIONS_B
    BLDG_ID,CLST_ID,PORT_ID,STRAND_ID
    ) VALUES
    :P2004_BLDG_ID,:P2004_CLST_ID,:P2004_PORT_ID,:P2004_STRAND_ID1
    END;
    You can see that I dont know how to use the value for 'ID' in either the javascript or the On-Process function.
    If you can help me out with this one, Then I can imitate it for the rest.
    -Gary

    Team,
    I am trying to Install Exchange on my Lab, getting below error
    message.
    The Schema Role is installed on Root Domain and trying to install
    exchange on Child domain.
    1 Root Domain - 1 Child domain. both are located on single site.

    Srinivasa K

    Hi Srinivasa,
    I guess, you didn't completed the initial setup schemaprep and adprep before starting the installation. You can do it as follows:
    1. Open command Prompt as administrator and browse to the root of installation cd and run Setup.exe /PrepareSchema /IAcceptExchangeServerLicenseTerms
    After finishing this,
    2. Setup.exe /PrepareAD /OrganizationName:"<organization name>" /IAcceptExchangeServerLicenseTerms
    3. To prepare all domains within the forest run Setup.exe /PrepareAllDomains /IAcceptExchangeServerLicenseTerms. If you want to prepare a specific domain run Setup.exe /PrepareDomain:<FQDN of the domain you want to prepare> /IAcceptExchangeServerLicenseTerms
    4. Once you complete all of the 3 steps, install the pre-requisities for Exchange 2013
    5. Finally, run the setup program
    Hope this will help you
