Stops Breathing!

Within the past couple of days, my G5 has been completely shutting down when not in use. Not sleep mode but completely shutting down. The only way to turn it back on is to unplug the power cord from the back of the computer, press the power switch, then wait for the system to load.
This happens repeatedly. If I'm off the computer for more than 20 or 30 minutes, I have to go through the whole process again.
Any help would be appreciated.

When certain audio frequencies must be dealt with, I sometimes overlay another, quiet music track. When that doesn't work I export to ProTools and work with the Equalizer filters to find the exact frequency of the breathing and to bring it down. I now tell grooms to stop breathing until the ceremony is over. They faint, and avoid the trauma of going through with the ceremony while conscious.

Another ZM charging question : ZM doesn't stop glowi

Hi,
sorry for another boring question about charging Zen Micro.
I usually charge my ZM over the AC-plug because the USB-charge is too slow. If I plug the ZM into the charger it starts with this "breathing" glow (you know what I mean ).
Does the micro suppose to stop "breathing" after 3-4 hours of charging ? Because my micro does it but then the led-light doesn*t simply go off... the continue glowing nut with the "normal" glow (not "breathing").
Is it bad for the micro if I let it plugged into the charger over night ans it glows for 7-8 hours (I know that it ist ok for the battery but how is ist for the leds ? ).

N8 (and C7): charging light and breathing light is...

Isn't my issue (my charging light and breathing light - if no scrensaver is set - work as before) but some N8 and C7 user state that after upgrading to 1.1, the charging light has stopped staying on during charge (just lights up when plugging tha adapter and then switches off, but the charging battery icon progress regularly) end that the breathing light simply stopped working in any screensaver setting (either on or off).
Just to report to them, any of you had the same issue and eventualy solved it?

Yes, I know and it's so in my N8 too, but those state that it has stopped breathing in when screensaver set to off as well

How bad can a company be?

I called BT around mid May. I informed them i was going to move to a new flat in NW2 in June. I told them the flat is being completely renovated and that i wanted to get a phone line. The BT employee on the phone did some checks and confirmed to me there was no active line (which i already knew: i said the flat was being completely renovated). He said i needed to book for a BT engineer to come, that there would be a cost and that i would need to take another 12 months contract. He also said he would cover for the engineer cost if i tenew my broadband with BT for another 12 months. I was reluctant to take another 12 months contract with BT for phone line and broadband because the fiber optic broadband i have been having with BT for the past 15 months was awful (regularly dropped, very slow speed at random times, more than once a week every week for 15 months). But in the end i accepted the offer, agreed to renew Line and brodaband with BT for another 12 months and booked for the BT engineer to come on 12th june. And that's when the nightmare started.
On 11th june, BT called. They lefta voicemail i could hardly understand then sent a weird sms: "Hello, SHREYA here. I have tried to speak with you today however, couldn't make a contact over the phone. please text back (at your normal rate) and we'll get back to you within 2 hours. We check messages from 8am ? 8.30pm Mon-Fri or 9am-6pm Sat." I had no clue who SHREYA was, considering they didn't even specify which company they work for. But after googling the number on the sms, i found out it was from BT. So i called BT and spoke to an employee who started to confuse me about "system issues". I was wondering "what do system issues have to do with me?"... The BT employee told me her manager would call me back. When the manager called me, he was even more confusing. At the end i asked him only 1 question "is the BT engineer coming on 12 june to set up the Bt line?". He replied "yes, between 07:00 and 13:00".
On 12 june, because i hadn't received any sms from Bt confirming the time window when the engineer is coming, i called Bt at 10:00. The Bt employee then told me "oh, it's cancelled". I then became very unhappy. I asked "why?". The Bt employee put me on hold and after 5 mun, hung up on me. I called Bt again, spoke to another few people from Bt but nobody was able to tell me why the appointment i booked 3 weeks earlier was cancelled. I was furious: i accepted to take another 12 months contract with Bt for line and broadband and this is how they deal with it.... I logged a complaint on the Bt website. I was told that a case manager would be appointed to help me and i spoke to that case manager today but so far i have had zero meaningful updates as to when the line will be set up. All she told me today is that a new order needs to be logged because there was an internal problem with the one logged 4 weeks ago. She even saud it will be logged tomorrow. I asked "why ligging it tomorrow? Why not today considering i have already been waiting for 4 weeks?" I got no replies to that question...
4 weeks wasted already, not sure how many more to come, and no commitments as to when i can expect the service. As if moving hoone was not streeful enough, i have to deal with a company like Bt. I have to chase them every single day to get an update, this is so stressful. What a poor level of service.
How bad can a company be?

I have 2 lines into my house. One with BT and one with Virgin Media. I placed an order with Bt to take over the Virgin Media line. So BT cancelled my existing BT line which was working perfectly and transferred the Virgin Media line onto the BT line they just cancelled. Then no broadband and no phone. I was told there was a fault on the line! There wasn't before they cancelled the line. I was told it had been fixed, I was told it hadn't been, I was told I would have phone and broadband in 24 hrs. I didn't. I was then told there was still a fault on the line despite an engineer stating unequivocally that there was no fault. I explained to BT that my son has severe learning disabilities and epilepsy and that he stops breathing when he has a seizure and we have to be able to call medics. BT told me to use my mobile phone and that he would not be regarded as a priority case!.
After another 2 hours on the phone to them today I am told that they have to put in new cables (what was wrong with the existing ones?) and that I might have phone line and broadband by June 26 - 10 days after they were just sopposed to take over a working phone line.
One would have thought that a telephone company would be able to take over a phone line - just a stretch too far for BT administration.
The Openreach engineers were very helpful and took extra time to speak to BT when at my house but to no avail.

G4 only dies WHEN PLUGGED IN

I've only had this G4 ibook (1.2 Ghz) about 10 months, I bought it as a refurb from the Apple Store. They said the battery was brand new and I believe them, it's always nicely charged. In fact, as long as I run my iBook only on battery, I"m golden; I never have any issues with my iBook, it's poetry in motion. My problem is that if I have a full day's work building web sites and I want to keep it plugged in (because I get distracted and wouldn't remember to notice the battery charge) then it will suddenly die (stop breathing, become a paperweight) with no warning and I lose everything. It only does this when the charger is plugged in, it runs beautifully on DC. I just got back from the Apple Store with a brand new charger, thinking that the other one was faulty. I plugged it in and was rewarded by my computer dying. Bear in mind, it will charge. I close it, then plug it in at night and when I wake up, I unplug it and open it and I have a fully charged battery. It will charge during the day, as well, as long as I close it up, then plug it in. But if I open it up and try to actually use it with it plugged in, it gives up the ghost and only the PMU key combination will restart it. sigh Help me, Obi-Wan Kenobe.

Ah... reading through some of these threads brings another question to mind. I used to be aware of my fan running from time to time. I thought, "cool, a fan". ....grin.....
You know.... I just realized that I haven't heard the fan running on my laptop in a couple of months. That's about the time this started.
Coincidence? (Or something more sinister?) But what would that have to do with "plugged in kills my computer"? .....sigh...... I guess nothing.

Retaining "last" log (wtmp) capability

Leopard gurus,
As some people have noticed, Leopard no longer writes/retains
"wtmp" files, which means the "last" command has been crippled,
because it does not go back very far.
"last" is incredibly useful for security (to keep an eye on
suspicious logins at suspicious times from suspicious places).
Why has "last" been crippled in this way? Is there an alternative
way to retain and list that same valuable information i.e., username,
origin of the login session, time of login, and time of logout?
Yes, I have already tried:
syslog -k Facility com.apple.system.lastlog
syslog -k Facility com.apple.system.utmpx
and they do not list the information equivalent to
the "last" command. Further, the log file "asl.db"
does not seem to be retaining even the above
not-very-usefully-presented information for a long time,
as promised by "man syslogd".

To be clear, what I meant is that while it DOES retain/display this values, however it 'resets/updates' this value many times, and in doing so, the data displayed is also truncated (yes, both at the same time, not so much one causes the other, obviously). It is the arbitrary time to the reset of this data that is what is getting me irked.
I tried to look around and see if it was a service or other daemon that was cleaning up the file too often, but I have found only newsyslog.conf that mentions /var/log/wtmp. However according to `man last` Apple did away with the use of wtmp, and now moved to /var/run/utmpx. But this file is WAAAY too small to contain the login info of HUNDREDS of users (checking wiht od -a utmpx looks like there are 2 or 3 records and they are 'stale').
So, long story short, is the data looks now to be all in asl. Asl.db contains LOTS of information (it is the replacement for txt files for the 'old' syslog) but I cannot control when `last` resets the data displayed in what was wtmp.
The closest thing that I am trying next to see if something is 'in the way' is that POSSIBLY it is some 'hidden' feature of diskspacemonitor. I have one drive that rides the 90% full mark.

I have changed diskspacemonitor to alert at 90% and cleanup @ 95% but I might have to take that to something like 92 or 95 and 98 just to be sure and I am uncomfortable with that level of 'fullness' on this drive, and turning to off will probably never be possible (I think I would stop breathing if it was ever found to be off!)
Whew! O.K. so back on track...
So, I cannot tell who has remotely connected to my server unless I am almost constantly running and capturing this data for historical reference. As an example, I have done this (cataloging this data) every 1-4 minutes for the past 24 hours and the wtmp has reset that date now 3 times.

As you can see, this means I only can see the last ~18 hours (or less) of login information. I have submitted this to radar and thought I'd keep the community up to speed (well ,the one person that seem to have noticed it). To be honest, I did not notice this until early this week. I was only checking for things that happened earlier in the day on the server and I must have been under the impression that it reset once or twice in odd places and it never bothered me, as this never came onto my radar as as annoying as it is now.

PBG4 Titanium Onyx - Screen black and sleeps when display moved slightly

My PowerBook G4 has been going to sleep when I do any of the following:
1) Move the display — _every time_
2) Touch the lower row of keys on keyboard — sometimes
3) Bump the computer — _most of the time_
Sometimes when I try to wake it from sleep, the sleep light will stop "breathing," but the screen is still black, although I can see a very faint image. (...my forum research has told me this is the backlight turning off). A slight movement of the display will bring the backlight back on, but of course the PB goes to sleep.
I have reset the PMU and the PRAM.
I am hoping that the backlight problem is associated with the sleep problem, and one fix will solve them both, but I guess that goes without saying.
Would prefer to fix it myself rather that take it to a repair shop; I am fairly adept at repairs, but don't want to get in over my head.

It was a classic case of the Orange Ribbon Cable Issue/Fix.
I was discouraged at first because the addendum to your article suggested that this did not apply to the *_550 MHz TiBook_*. But the ribbon looked the same as your pictures, and when I looked at the ribbon +with a loupe+, I could see where the insulation was worn away. I put tape everywhere I could fit it and the PB is working fine. I can totally move the display and pound on the keys with impunity. (I use the word "pound" figuratively, of course).
Now that I know how to remove the bottom case and the HD, I am definitely going to replace the HD.
Do you know what the best and most capacity HD I can install?

Droid Incredible 2 - Will No Charge

I have had my Droid Incredible 2 for a couple of months now, loved the phone except for the past couple of weeks. All of a sudden the battery would charge sporadically. Went to the store I purchased it at, of course they had to keep the phone for about a half hour to try and charge it. They came back and said it wasn't charging, so I was given a new battey under warranty. That lasted for about a week and now I'm back to having a phone that would charge sporadically. One day it would charge on the regular charger, but the next day it wouldn't. I then would charge it on the car charger and like the regular charger it would work one day but not the next, but would on the regular charger. Has any one else come across this problem?????
I go to the store again today, of course they didn't take my word for it so they again tried to see if would charge, guess what it didn't. I explained my situtaion, that my son has a medical condition and I need a working phone asap, like now. We don't give a new phone it has to be a refurbished phone via fedex the next day. Now my son's school is to call my cell incase of an emergency, I will now be with out a phone for almost 24 hours. God help them that he does not have a seizure and turn blue and stop breathing and the school can't get a hold of me. You would think with the price we pay for the phone and the maintence, that the phone is only a couple of months old that we would be able to get a new phone, I really don't want a refurbished phone that was soneone elses problem headache.

I think Elitist_jerk was just trying to be helpful. I have worked in field service for years and can tell you that no product is 100% reliable. If having a phone is this vitally important to you then you need redundancy. Maybe getting a second phone from another carrier(pay-as-you-go) or adding another line to your vzw account for $10/month.
I feel for you and your situation and just want to help. Hopefully nothing happened during this 24 hours but I would suggest using it as a reason to be better prepared if it should happen again. Vzw isn't going to change their policies anything soon, where would you be if this happened again tomorrow?

Error: "Authorware Runtime has stopped working"

I'm trying to fix a problem our students are having with an
instructional CD that was made by Ivy Software. I'm getting an
error "Authorware Runtime has stopped working". I have spent a
considerable amount of time trying to diagnose and fix this
problem.
So far we have been unsuccessful getting it to work on a
Lenovo factory (OEM) HDD image. It works fine on all other PCs
running any OS and any version of IE. I’m providing some
links to documentation I found that may be of help with the
diagnosis, although none of these documents have solved the
problem. I have also noticed that the web installation, the first
link below, for the newest version of the Authorware Player errors
out on the Lenovo image but works on other PCs. I have put a call
into Adobe to get the distributable installer for this updated
version, as described in the 13295 "Technote", but I'm not holding
my breath. The Adobe support rep. said they would mail me an FTP
location to dl this installer, "if they can find it". :-P
It appears that there is no installation, the entire module
runs directly from the CD and does not install anything to the HDD.
The files on the CD utilize the Macormedia product called
Authorware which comes as both a development program and an add-in
for browsers. The error message we get when we autorun the CD is
"Authorware Runtime has stopped working". It isn't clear to me
exactally what it is running from the CD and or from the OS when
displaying this Macromedia Authorware software CD, since the Task
manager shows only "start.exe" running from the CD. Start.exe shows
it is Macromedia Authorware 7.02 in its file properties.

Normally, when the authorware exe file (start.exe) autoruns
from the Ivy CD it writes the AW7.ini file to the
"C:\Users\%UserProfile%\AppData\Roaming\Macromedia\Authorware 7"
folder. On our systems that file does not get created. I've checked
the permissions on the parent directories, even created these
directories manually, and then copied the AW7.ini file to that
location but the program still fails.

Infuriating 'Adobe InDesign CC 2014 has stopped working error' has lost me a day. Just got dumped by chat support...

Hi All,
I've taken a few deep breaths before writing this to try and avoid a hugely frustrated rant.
To summarise; since early this morning my previously healthy version of InDesign CC 2014 has been unable to open, crashing at the 'Executing startup services...' stage with the error message 'Adobe InDesign CC 2014 has stopped working'. I worked on it all day yesterday and use it extensively every day more or less, this problem came out of nowhere overnight. I didn't do any kind of system update in the interim period. I'm using a HP Envy dv7 Notebook PC running Windows 8.
I tried as much as I could based on my own very limited knowledge and some forum searching. I re-installed the software. Did that again using the Adobe CC cleaner .exe file in between un-install and re-install. I uninstalled older versions of the software (which all worked fine - as does the rest of the Creative Suite software I have installed. I deleted extensions. None of this helped.
I then went looking for Adobe support and got a guy via Adobe's chat controlling my PC from afar and trying some much deeper technical stuff. After two hours he said that it was an OS issue, sorry... after a bit of dismayed pleading he said OK, I'll try one more thing and made me a new user with administration power, told me to login in to that account and try again. I did, it worked! But it's still broken on my main account and he disconnected in the few minutes I was gone and I now seem to be frozen out of chat help. HELP!
What does this mean? All CS/CC software seems to be working fine on my normal account apart from InDesign CC 2014. I have a huge file, now very close to being overdue, which I was working on in 2014 CC and can't be opened by older versions. The software works on this other account - so I guess I can work there short term. But how do I get it fixed on my main account?
Hopefully someone out there has the answer?

First, see Replace Your Preferences and do it for the original account.
If that fails to solve the problem, rename the two Adobe folders that contain the prefs in the user profile for that account and copy the folders from the new account where it works. You want to be sure you copy the folders, rather than merge the contents, so you must rename the old folders first.

Importing from Sony TRV18E DV camera has stopped working

I have been happily using my Sony TRV18E and importing footage to imovie 6.0.3 on my imac until this morning. Now when I try to import, it still allows me to control the camera via the firewire connection (ie I can start, stop, rewind, fast forward), but if I hit the import button, all that happens on the screen is that it states that the "camera playing", with a blue background. The camera plays but no clips are captured.
FYI, it works fine on my macbook, so it is not the camera or the cable that are at fault. I have rebooted my imac and the camera a number of times, searched through the other focum topics and tried all of the suggestions on the apple imovie site. Firewire recognises the camera correctly (as per another post on this site), so it is not a firewire 600 / 800 issue.
I installed the following software updates this morning, which is the only thing I can think of that has changed since yesterday:

I had the same thing happen this morning after installing QuickTime 7.1.5 and the other items you installed. Like you, I could control the camera but not import successfully.
With the camera turned on and hooked up to iMovie, I shut off the camera, then turned it back on. Shazam! Everything started working again.
This isn't the first time I've seen this happen. It's happened once in a while all the way back to iMovie 1. It seems to happen after I do something major, like upgrade QuickTime. It's as if the parts have to re-discover each other — iMovie, QuickTime, FireWire and the camera. Once they do, everything starts working again.
The only suggestion I can make is to keep fiddling with it. Start up things in a different order until you hit the magic combination. Then breathe a sign of relief.

Time not stopping with while loop

Hello,
I've attached my VI. I am having trouble with while loops.
I want to turn on LEDs. The first LED should turn on after 3s. The second LED should turn on after 5s. The third LED will turn on later.
The LEDs turn on based on the following conditions:
Case 0: numeric control > 10 then led_1 off, led_2 off, led_3 off
Case 1: numeric control <= 10 then led_1 on, led_2 on, led_3 on
Case 2: numeric control <=5 then led_3 on
Because of the way I'm delaying time, I have the following problems
Case 1 --> case 2: led_3 doesn't come on right away
Case 2 --> case 1: led_3 doesn't turn off right away
Putting probes in certain areas leads me to believe that these problems are due to the way the time delay is being generated.

EDIT: Looking at it more...it seems to be that when the stop condition is true, the loop runs one more iteration. Is there a way to keep it from running that "one more iteration."

One of the problems is that your VI is not able to "breathe" because it is sometimes trapped inside inner loops that consume all CPU and step on each others toes. All you need is an single outer loop and a few shift registers.
May of your specifications are still not clear, for example what should happen to LED 1&2 in case #3? Should they remain in the state they are in, or should they turn off, for example.
Here is a simple rewrite that spins the outer loop at a regular rate, has no inner loop, and does not need any local variables or value property nodes. See if it makes sense. Also note that your code can be simplified dramatically by using arrays. Since the stop button is read with each of the regular interations, we don't need to worry about sequencing.
Most likely you need to do a few simple modofications, because your specs are not clear.

Creative Cloud stops after 10 sec

Hi,
I like to update Lightroom and Photoshop, so I start Creative Cloud and after ± 10 seconds Creative Cloud stops without any message whatsoever.
So I tried to uninstall Creative Cloud, but the uninstaller progress bar is standing still even after 30 minutes. The process manager showed the uninstaller was hanging
So I repaired the filesystem permissions, an still the uninstaller was hanging
So I ran the CC Cleaner Tool only for Creative Cloud removal
After that I reinstalled a fresh Application Manager, which downloaded and installed the new Creative Cloud
But the problem is still not solved and Creative Cloud still shuts down (crashes) after ± 10 seconds.
Please what can I do? during my trial perod I had no problem whatsoever, but sinds I start paying this is happening.
Specs:
Creative Cloud subsription
MAC OSX 10.9.4

The install of prem. Pro,,,it did install but no desktop icon and none of the icons in cloud work..I was able to go into C drive then into the prem.pro folder,found the icon for the application and that opened the program..It ran ok..I have found no way to reinstall anything from cloud without first removing said program.Thats what I am doing now,uninstalling prem.pro and cloud in hopes of a clean install will fix the issues.Not going to hold my breath tho as I really don't think they have fixed the bug yet.
On the plus side LightRoom did install with a working icon.
PS cc 2014 did not put out a startup icon but as with prem.pro was able to open by going into the file folder.
