Streaming MP3 playlist via QTSS... display track info?

I'm streaming an MP3 playlist using QuickTime Streaming Server. When playing in iTunes, the playlist name and current track title displays by default. That's great, but I would like the current artist name (and the option for album name) to display as well. How can I do this?
So far my only option is changing each track name to include the artist name. Surely there must be a more elegant solution...?
Thanks for any help.

Eventually figured this one out. It seems that it's a question of ID3 tags.
Found the clue at id3.org where they mentioned that id3v2.3 is the most popular implementation of tag (although id3v2.4 is the most current version and is supported by iTunes). My mp3s were all tagged 2.4. When streaming, this playlist displayed in iTunes only the playlist name and current track's filename (it included .mp3 extension).
Anyhow, down converted all ID3 tags from 2.4 to 2.3 and created a new playlist. Now, when streaming, the current track title, artist name and album name correctly display in iTunes.
Now I'd love to figure out how to get our radio station's logo to appear as the artwork. Not sure if this is possible since I've never seen in iTunes artwork associated with a stream. Any thoughts?

  • Display Track Info. When iTunes is minimized

Is it possible to have iTunes display the track information for the currently playing song when it is minimized? Most players will allow this now. I would think that iTunes would to.

  • Streaming mp3 data

Hi and thanks in advance to anyone willing to help out :)
I was disappointed by the general lack of quality in every single J2ME app out there for listening to internet radio (and I'm not going to pay for something so simple), so I decided to have a go at it myself. I found out I could just use Manager.createPlayer() and pass the URL of the stream to it, and it would (I assume) play the stream without any problems.
Now, the problem is that I want to parse and display metadata. In ShoutCast radio, a simple metadata block is inserted into the mp3 data at a certain interval specified by the server. This makes it fairly simple to read the metadata, however it means that passing the stream straight to the mp3 decoder will cause a glitch in the sound every second or so, so if I want metadata, I have to modify the stream before playing it.
I thought this should be simple to do but it seems it isn't. I have been unable to locate a way to send data directly from a buffer in my application to the mp3 decoder for playback. The closest I think I got was creating a Player from an InputStream; this way after jumping through some hoops it seems to be possible to play audio from a buffer created by the app itself, but once it's finished playing I would have to destroy and re-create the Player in order to play the next chunk of sound. This would be extremely impractical and I doubt it would allow seamless playback of the stream, since it would have to interrupt playback everytime a block of metadata is received (which happens all the time, not just at song changes).
So basically, my question is: is there a way (and if yes, what is it) to continously play audio, from my own data buffer?
Thank you very much for your help! :)

The Harman-Kardon manual for the DPR1005 has this to say about sending raw MP3 data to the unit:
The MP 3 DSP mode found in the new DPR
requires an MP3 SPDIF stream. Presently, only a
few units provide this but in the coming generations
    of motherboards and operating system
updates this will follow, since SPDIF is the standard
    for audio & video hardware.
All the information I have found regarding this topic leads me to believe that that the iMac can not send raw data via the SPDIF output.
    However, Squeezebox can - http://www.slimdevices.com/pi_specs.html#outputs
That is the only device I have successfully located that will stream MP3 data via optical, not just standard pcm.

  • Making iTunes automatically change track info of playlists

    Hello all,
I'd like to know if there is a way to automatically change song info of all the tracks in a specific playlist.
More specifically, I'd like to know how to make itunes automatically change the Grouping of songs as I add or remove them from any given playlist.
Ultimately, what I'd like to be able to do is see which songs are set to sync with my iPhone and which aren't when I'm looking through my entire music library.
Maybe there's a solution using Automator or Applescripts. I tried using smart playlists, but those seem to only be able to populate a playlist based on track info, which is the opposite of what I want to do.
Thank you all in advance for your help,
    Scott

I suspect iTunes is revealing "corrections" made by Windows Media Player. If so the damage is done and you'll probably find other tracks have been affected over time.
See my post on Getting iTunes & Windows Media Player to play nicely. Most importantly uncheck the WMP options as displayed in the final image.

  • New Smart Playlist / Genre = / Genre does not display in Info list

I'd greatly appreciate help.. spent many hours looking for answer already.
I have created several Smart Playlists in the past. They work fine. They are all classified by Genre.
Now I have created a new Smart Playlist. It all looks fine with the Genre set correctly.
However in Music, when I try to set the Info of a recording to that Genre, the Genre does NOT appear in the Info list.
All previously created Genres are there, but the Genre for the new Smart Playlist is never there.
I have tried over and over and over again. I have deleted the new Smart Playlist, re-created it, created another Smart Playlist, with anonther name ... exited iTunes and re-started it several times ... rebooted the computer ...
Whatever I do, the Genre of the new Smart Playlist does not appear in the Info list.
Any ideas at all? Is there a limit to the number of Genres? I must say I'd love to get rid of a large number of the pre-existing Genres like 'Industrial', Hip Hop/Rap, whatever, that will definitely never be used!
    Many thanks
    --

    Camoracer,
...If the genre is not listed in the drop down then type > it in yourself when editing track info.
Thank you VERY much. I am not a very regular user of iTunes and had forgotten that the first time a new Genre is created, you have to physically type in the name in the Info field .. even though there is a new Smart Playlist with that Genre already defined!
Ah well... one of these days when I get some time I'll have to write up an aide memoire for using iTunes! In the meantime I'll not forget this one! Thanks again, I appreciate your time.

  • Burned CD's display wrong track info and include profanity

My wife burned a cd for me about a week ago from her itunes library on a 2007 macbook. When I inserted it into my 2007 macbook pro the cd track info was completely different than what she burned. The music was write, just not the track info. We recently tried burning another cd to use at our church for pre-service music. When we imported that cd into the computer the track names and info included profanity in them. A bit embarrassing at that moment. Can someone help me figure out what would cause this issue?

When a CD is inserted into iTunes, the times of the tracks are analyzed and sent to a service called Gracenote, which attempts to match it with CDs in its database. You had the misfortune that your track pattern matched something different in Gracenote's DB. This is not common but it can occur, especially on CDs with only one or a small number of tracks.
To avoid the problem, play the CD in a boom-box instead of on your Macbook, so that nothing will display. If you prefer to use your Macbook, get the original files from your wife and play them directly in iTunes. Then you can be sure the correct titles will display.

    Hi there,
You're running an old version of Safari. Before troubleshooting, try updating it to the latest version: 6.0. You can do this by clicking the Apple logo in the top left, then clicking Software update.
You can also update to the latest version of OS X, 10.8 Mountain Lion, from the Mac App Store for $19.99, which will automatically install Safari 6 as well, but this isn't essential, only reccomended.
Thanks, let me know if the update helps,

  • Hi, my problem is that i transferred music off my cd's into atones, created an mp3 playlist and would now like to copy that music on to my usb..how do i do it. also would like to snapshot my desk top info

I ingested music off my cd's in to iTunes. have created an mp3 playlist with my music i iTunes. now how to copy my music on to a usb..also would like to snapshot my desktop so as to send info to my friend

In iTunes, you can Control-Click on a song and select "Show in Finder".
In theory you should also be able to select all the songs in the playlist (command-A) and drag them to the USB disk.
Screen Shots can be obtained using:
        Mac OS X Screen Shots:
Screen Shot to a Desktop file:
                Command-Shift-3              - Capture entire screen
Command-Shift-4              - Drag to select copy region
Command-Shift-4-Space   - Capture Window under cursor
If you want a menu or pop-up, then do the
                    Command-Shift-4-Space
after the menu or pop-up is setup as you like it.
            Screen Shot to Clipboard:
                Command-Control-Shift-3              - Capture entire screen
Command-Control-Shift-4              - Drag to select copy region
Command-Control-Shift-4-Space   - Capture Window under cursor
If you want a menu or pop-up, then do the
                    Command-Control-Shift-4-Space
after the menu or pop-up is setup as you like it.
Now paste the clipboard into whatever document accepts graphics.
NOTE:  Preview can be used to annotate a Screen Shot with Circles,
Arrows, and Text to describe interesting point in the Screen
                   Shot.

    Hey Pod Man,
I saw your post and wasn't sure what the final solution was for you. I'm having a similar problem... not sure what I did today to screw it up. If I have album artwork, it displays with no tracking info. If there isn't album artwork, it's a blank box.

  • When playing songs in iTunes playlist, How do you keep the next song from jumping to next song? I am working on song list updating other tracks info and then the next song starts and I lose my spot in song list?

When playing songs in iTunes playlist, How do you keep the next song from jumping to next song? I am working on song list updating other tracks info and then the next song starts and I lose my spot in song list?

    Max OSX 10.6.8, iTunes 11.1
I had a similar problem: I wanted to synch my playlist to my iphone. I like to have my playlist sorted by genre. But under each genre, albums are not sorted by the track numbers. This is a problem, especially when I am listening to club mixes when the DJ smoothly transitions from 1 track sequentially to the next one. Under the properties of each audio file, the Track Numbers and Disc Numbers are already there.
My perfect solution was to turn On Sorting - Sort Album under View>Show View Options. Then, select all the songs in that album (Shift click, Cmd click, etc) , and Edit multiple item information (Cmd I). You will see Info-Video-Sorting-Options buttons. Click on Sorting. Then, under Sort Album, Enter the name of the album. Then OK.
You should now have the playlist sorted by Genre, then each album individually sorted by track numbers. On your playlist you should see, if you scroll right, the column added called "Sort Album".
    Hope this helps.

I have an iPhone 4S and a 2012 Honda CRV . The streaming BT music is fine but now suddenly it stopped displaying song info on the screen. It worked for about 10 days and then stopped. Any thoughts?

I think that we all know the answer to this one.
Unfortunatley the device is concidered damaged by water. Apple can do an out of warranty repair which would cost $199. Generally they would just replace the device in this case for the $199.
The alternative is to Purchase a new device.

  • How do I associate playlist track info with a "blank" CD?

iTunes 6 "quit unexpectedly" when it had just finished burning a 25-track CD, but before it had time to associate the track listing info in my playlist with the actual disc.
So now I have a "blank" Audio CD on my desktop with just Track 1 / Track 2 etc. As I still have the playlist, how do I "associate" the track info in the playlist with the CD itself? I don't want to manually copy and paste Artist / Title / Album 25 times over, so how can I do this?
This is urgent as I want to delete the tracks in my iTunes Library now I have the CD.
    iMac G5 17" 1.5Gb RAM   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

You will either have to manually edit all the info for the 'blank' CD, or (perhaps easier) you could just delete it an burn a new CD.

  • Streamed MP3 music files losing first few seconds

My Apple TV seems to drop the first few seconds of MP3 music files when they are streamed from iTunes, but not when they are synced to the Apple TV.
The number of seconds that are dropped varies from none at all for some songs to 20, or much more than that ... but seemingly never more than a minute.
When I select one certain song in a particular playlist -- "Song for the Mira" by the Garrison Bros. -- the time shown is 5:19. When I press play on the Apple TV remote the time changes to 5:00, very briefly ... just before the Apple TV starts to play the song with its first 19 seconds missing, as if it were really a 5:00 song.
From that time on (unless I reload the iTunes library) every time I select the same song from any playlist, or from under Songs, or Albums, or whatever, the time is always shown right away as 5:00. So Apple TV is "remembering" the time of the song.
If I cause Apple TV to reload that iTunes library, the time goes back to 5:19 until I actually play the song again, at which time it becomes 5:00 again.
The amount of time that is sliced off from the beginning of a song is always consistent for that song. So if the amount is 12 seconds one time for a particular song, it is always 12 seconds.
I have not altered the start or end points of affected songs in iTunes.
As far as I can tell, this never happens with Protected AACs.
It never happens with synced copies of the MP3s, only with streamed playback.
I have the latest versions of iTunes (7.3.2) and of the Apple TV software (1.1).
Restoring the Apple TV to factory settings, re-downloading the software, etc., have no effect on the problem. Nor does restarting my iMac, which is running OS X 10.4.10. Nor does restarting the various base stations on my wireless network, all of which have the latest firmware.
Anyone else have a problem with the beginnings of streamed MP3s being truncated? Anyone know what to do about it? Thanks.

Since my last post to this thread I have discovered:
    (1) I was wrong in thinking there is no pattern to the number of seconds lopped off at the beginning of various MP3s when streamed to my Apple TV. Actually, I have found that the same number of seconds is dropped from every song in a particular album or compilation!
So my "Sounds of Nova Scotia, Vol. 1" compilation -- which contains the "Song for the Mira" that is reduced from 5:19 to 5:00 at the start of Apple TV's streamed playback -- has 19 seconds removed at the start of every track when its tracks are streamed to Apple TV. (It does not appear to be significant that this particular track seems to be rounded to the nearest minute. Cutting the first 19 seconds off the other tracks in the compilation does not bring them to an even minute.)
My Beatles' "Abbey Road" album has not 19 but 30 seconds dropped at the start of every streamed track!
    (2) I was also wrong in reporting that the time change from, say, 5:19 to 5:00 is "remembered" by Apple TV the next time I select the affected track from a list on the TV screen. Actually, the next time I select the track, it shows up as 5:19 again. But if I press Play, that changes to 5:00 in the split second just before the track actually starts to play ... and then the progress bar that appears at that point, when the actual song is being played, reflects a 5:00 total time, not 5:19.
To recap what I said before, this happens only when I stream (even from the syncing iTunes), not when I play a synced copy. AACs are unaffected. Not all MP3s seem to be affected, though all in an affected album or compilation are affected the same way, by having an identical number of seconds lopped off. I have the latest software/firmware in all my devices. Restarts/resets do not help. The problem persists in copies of copies of the affected MP3 tracks streamed from iTunes _on my other Mac_, a MacBook Pro. The problem does not occur when I play the tracks right in iTunes on either machine. I am not using manually set start and stop times on the affected tracks in iTunes. I do not have *Part of a Gapless Album* or *Remember Playback Position* set in Info in iTunes Preferences, though I have tried setting *Part of a Gapless Album*, with no effect on the problem.
Anyone have any more ideas as to what might be causing this? Thanks.
