StringIndexOutOfBoundsException while reading a field

Hi! I'm using a postgres database with JDBC and when I try to read a timestamp field (defined as timestamp in the database), I got the exception:
java.lang.StringIndexOutOfBoundsException: String index out of range: 26
     at java.lang.String.charAt(String.java:444)
     at org.postgresql.jdbc2.ResultSet.toTimestamp(ResultSet.java:1653)
     at org.postgresql.jdbc2.ResultSet.getTimestamp(ResultSet.java:398)
     at org.postgresql.jdbc2.ResultSet.getTimestamp(ResultSet.java:617)
     at aplik.informat.handlers.data.ClassificationDataRetriever.getClassificationPeriods(ClassificationDataRetriever.java:209)
The code is very simple:
205          Date day =null;
206          while( rs.next() )
207          {
208               //Get the data from the database
209               day =rs.getTimestamp("validfrom");
Any ideas??

Hello,
You are trying to get the Timestamp object and
and storing in Date object which is not possible
because TimeStamp is the extension of Date class. so
try stroing in Timestamp then try to convert it into
string and get the value required from that Time stamp
string.I can see that you are enthusiastically trying to participate in the forums. However, a large number of your posts are either irrelevant to the original topic or simply wrong - like this one.
So please.
1. Read the post and all of the responses before replying.
2. Verify what you are saying.
To clear up the misconceptions in your post.
- The answer has nothing to to with what the problem was (the poster already pointed out what the problem was.)
- The getTimestamp() field returns an instance of java.sql.Timestamp. Timestamp is derived java.util.Date. In the above code that means that "Date day" must be a java.util.Date or the code would not have compiled. The code above is running thus is already is compiled. This is fundamental to the way java works and has nothing to do with JDBC.
- There are reasons for extracting non-string types from a database as strings. In general doing so with dates (timestamps) is a bad idea because they are always database dependent and even database instance dependent. So only when absolutely necessary should it be used.

    Thanks for your inputs,
    But my internal table type is of DEC (5,2) , I am getting that... it needs to be of type 'C'. Can you suggest.

    When you have a problem with one particular site, a good "first thing to try" is clearing your Firefox cache and deleting your saved cookies for the site.
    (1) Bypass Firefox's Cache
    Use Ctrl+Shift+r to reload the page fresh from the server.
    (You also can clear Firefox's cache completely using:
    orange Firefox button ''or'' Tools menu > Options > Advanced
    On the Network mini-tab > Cached Web Content : "Clear Now")
    (2) Remove the site's cookies (save any pending work first) using either of these. While viewing a page on the site:
    * right-click and choose View Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
    * Alt+t (open the classic Tools menu) > Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
    Then try reloading the page. Does that help?
    These features rely on JavaScript, and it sounds as though you have scripting enabled if you get (the wrong) color changes. Some add-ons might alter the way scripts operate, so a standard diagnostic to bypass interference by extensions (and some custom settings) is to try Firefox's Safe Mode.
    First, I recommend backing up your Firefox settings in case something goes wrong. See [[Backing up your information]]. (You can copy your entire Firefox profile folder somewhere outside of the Mozilla folder.)
    Next, restart Firefox in Firefox's Safe Mode ([[Safe Mode]]) using
    Help > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
    In the dialog, click "Start in Safe Mode."
    If those features work correctly, this points to one of your extensions or custom settings as the problem.
    To also disable plugins, you can use this page:
    orange Firefox button ''or'' classic Tools menu > Add-ons > Plugins category
    Any change?

    Let's start with the basics...
    1) You state that you are getting an error. What error do you get? Is this an Oracle error (i.e. ORA-xxxxx)? If so, please include the error number and the error message as well as the triggering statement. Or is the problem that rows are getting written to the reject file and errors are being written to the log file? If so, what record(s) are being rejected and what are the reasons given in the log file? Or perhaps the problem is something else?
    2) You state that you are quite sure that the problem relates to the hilighted code. What makes you quite sure of this?

  • Urgent Help Req.: Exception=ORABPEL-11162 Error while reading native data

    Hi All,
    I am getting below error: Exception=ORABPEL-11162
    Error while reading native data.
    [Line=6, Col=7|http://forums.oracle.com/forums/] Not enough data available in the input, when trying to read data of length "22" for "element with name PurOrderNum" from the specified position, using "style" as "fixedLength" and "length" as "22".
    Ensure that there is enough data from the specified position in the input.
    Let me also give you the brief scenario of what I am trying to achieve.
    INTERFACE FUNCTIONING:_
    I have an interface which reads the records in a file in a chunk through ChunkRead adapter and and after one successful reading if chunk it calls the DB adapter to insert the records in the table.
    Now these records are committed and next chunk is read and the process goes on till all the records are read.
    After this the API is called which does the processing of these records.
    Inserting records in the DB is a XA transaction which means if anything goes wrong while inserting the data, the records which are added earlier are rolled back.
    ISSUE:_
    Now the issue comes when I do the negative testing. Since my file is based on fixed length schema., I change the length of last record from 15 to 13. (say total are 10 records)
    Now what happens is when chunkread tries to read the record of 15 length it gets only 13 characters and hence ignores the records.
    But the chunkread reads all other 9 records correctly and sends this to DB adapter which now inserts them correctly in the DB.
    But being a global transaction I want that if any record is missing from DB in comparison to those in file then whole transaction should roll back.
    So I am unable to make this whole process as global transaction. This is because the ChunkRead adapter inspite of detecting the error doesn’t throw it back.
    Moreover if this problem occurs in say next chunk then also I am unable to find out how to rollback the whole transaction. Because the first chunk was correct.
    So basically two concerns are there:+
    How to detect that chunkread adapter has missed one record?+
    Secondly, If it’s detected then how should I rollback the transaction that caused earlier records to enter into database?+
    Please let me know if anyone has faced this issue earlyer and how it got resolved. Any pointers regarding this would be of great help.
    Also attached is the chunkread log for reference.

    Just a thought, you could set the terminator for the last field as {eol} instead of length, this means that it should read the last field regardless of the length.
    Depending on the logic of Db adapter the error could be traped due to incorrect length.
    If the file starts each row with a constant(s), e.g. 01 then you can terminate the previous line on that, this is the better option but relys on the file format.
    The other option is a little thing call compensation, ouch. Basically this allows you to back out commited rows but you have to provide all the logic, it is generally something people avoid because of the complexity.

  • Error while reading PO  message when creating confirmation for PO

    Hi all,
    We are on SRM 5.0 SP 13. Extended Classic.
    While creating confirmation for PO in the system,whenI click on the CREATE CONFIRMATION icon,I get the following error:
    Error while reading PO in backend system.Inform System admin.
    when I goto change the PO,I get the foll errors:
    System of purchasing organization O 00000152 and purchasing group O 00000126 differ
    Organization O 00000126 is not a purchasing group; Inform system administration
    Organizational unit O 00000181 is not permitted as purchasing organization
    Purchasing group O 00000126 is not assigned to purchasing organization O 00000152
    On further analysis,I found that the issue is mainly because f the Porg /Grp assigned in the PO doesnt exist now in the org structure in PPOMA_BBP.
    Can I change the Porg/grp now in the PO ?If so,how do i do that ?when i go to the dropdown for the Porg/grp it doesnt show me all of the current Porg/Grps maintained in the Org structure?How does the system determine which P org /grp to show in the value help for these fields under BASIC DATA tab in POu?
    Please advise how I can get rid of this error.
    Thanks!

    Hi Gurus,
    We are on SRM 7 and we are currently facing the same issue.
    In our case, when a PGroups is deleted and unassigned, an interfase from HR is raised and i the SRM PPOMA the Pgroup is not valid anymore and unassigned from the Purchasing Organization.
    Once this happens, we face a blocking issue for all the documents created with Purchasing Groups that has been deleted.
    These documents cannot be processed anymore and and error saying that Purchasing group is not assigned to purchasing organization... is raised.
    Currently we are manually mantaining the validity of the Purchasing Group via PPOMA and transaction PP01. We put the validity to unlimited and the documents can be processed again.
    Anyway we would like to avoid this manual update and to have a false information in te system where the PGroup will be shown as valid while it has been deleted in the past.
    Could you please advise on the best solution on it?
    Many Thanks in advance.
    Best Regards,
    Valentino

  • Not recognizing # while reading the file from application server

    Hi
    I am reading a file from application server. While reading into internal table with read statement the last field in each record is filling with hash symbol in the last digit. If I write any if condition with HASH symbol its not going inside the if condition, means its not recognizing as hash may be its internally treating as some other. I need to remove the hash from that field. How I can do that.
    Thanks,
    kishore

    I faced exact situation. Yes, internally its treated as some other special character. What i did was, becuase hash symbol was always coming at the end...i created a dummy field in my internal table so that it will not interfere with my actual data. When i see the data in my internal table, the hash always falls in the last field (dummy) which i will ignore. I could not get solution to remove this hash so i adopted this approach and it worked!!
    Hope it helps,

  • Problem with Pro*C reading BLOB field from Oracle 10g

    Hello Experts,
    We have a Pro*c application which is reading the BLOB data fields (a PNG image file) from Oracle data base. It holds the BLOB fields returned from the SQL query into a Unsigned Char structure in Pro*C. The program used work fine on AIX 32 – bit 4.3 and Oracle 8.1 environment.
    Recently, we have upgraded the environment to AIX 64-bit 5.3 and Oracle 10g.Since after the Pro*c program has problem in reading the Blob filed.
    Below is the query we are trying to execute –
    EXEC SQL
    SELECT
    signtre_image, image_file_name_ext
    INTO
    :msipLocalImage INDICATOR :msipLocalImage_i,
    :file_name_ext INDICATOR :file_name_ext_i
    FROM
    dcs_sign
    WHERE
    signtre_nbr = :signtre_nbr;
    Here signtre_image is the BLOB fields and msipLocalImage is a Pro*C structure define as below –
    typedef struct tagSignImage
    long len; /* Image length */
    unsigned char img[1]; /* Pointer to first byte. */
    } MOTS_SIGN_IMAGE;
    The quesry does not give any error or exception message in the Pro*C , program just stops at the point of executing the quesry..When we run the query commenting the BLOB filed it works fine. Also, the query runs good when we run it in the Oracle editor.
    There seems to be problem with the way we are reading the BLOB field in the new Oracle 10g enviromet.
    Does any body have any idea what’s wrong with this query? We really need it to work.
    Any Help will be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    - Rajan Yadav

    Thanks a ton for your response.
    We made the necessary changes as suggested by you.This time we got another flavour of error - SQL Error Code - Inconsistent error while reading BLOB.
    Another thing we noticed is that the data field which we are trying to read is defined as LONG RAW instead of a BLOB in data base.
    Are these two things related in any sense or is there anything else which is causing the error.
    Once again Thanks for your help.

  • CSAP_BOM_ITEM_MAINTAIN - Problems while clearing custom fields

    Hi, I try to modify some bom items, it works fine so far, but I get into trouble when trying to update previosly filled fields with empty ones.
    First, I check my structure and insert a 'delete field character' into initial fields:
    LOOP AT fieldcat INTO wa_fieldcat.
            IF wa_fieldcat-fieldname EQ 'FLDELETE'.
              CONTINUE.
            ENDIF.
            ASSIGN COMPONENT wa_fieldcat-fieldname OF STRUCTURE bomline TO <field>.
            IF sy-subrc IS INITIAL.
              IF <field> IS INITIAL OR <field> EQ space.
                <field> = '!'.
              ENDIF.
            ELSE.
              MESSAGE 'Error while looping thru bomline structure to update fields' TYPE 'E'.
            ENDIF.
         ENDLOOP.
    Then, I use CSAP_BOM_ITEM_MAINTAIN to update bom
    CALL FUNCTION 'CSAP_BOM_ITEM_MAINTAIN'
        EXPORTING
          i_stpo                   = bomline
    *         FL_DEP_ALE_CONFORM       = ' '
        IMPORTING
          o_stpo                   = bomline_out
          fl_warning               = warning
    *       TABLES
    *         T_DEP_DATA               =
    *         T_DEP_DESCR              =
    *         T_DEP_ORDER              =
    *         T_DEP_SOURCE             =
    *         T_DEP_DOC                =
        EXCEPTIONS
          error                    = 1
          OTHERS                   = 2
    So, this works out fine, but not for my custom fields in the stpo_api02's .INCLUDE structure. While the standard fields are deleted when I fill them with '!', the custom ones just contain '!' afterwards.
    When I dont put '!' into my custom fields and make them initial prior invoking CSAP_BOM_ITEM_MAINTAIN, their contents stay untouched.
    However, real updates, where field contents are changed to some value but initial work flawlessly, on both, the stock and my custom fields.
    Any Idea on this?

    Hi,
      Can you try to read the BOM items before changes and use the same structure in change BAPI by modifying the structure with only the changes. I guess this will support the clearing of the custom fields.
    With Regards,
    Rajesh V.

    Hi Kumar,
    thanks for the hint, but that did not solve the problem. I reworked
    web.xml and weblogic.xml (some 5.1 things inside) and now it works.

    It appears your default webapp failed to deploy.
    Add the following entry (red ink) in your config.xml (carefully) and see
    if you are able to deploy default webapp
    <Application
    Deployed="true"
    Name="DefaultWebApp_myserver"
    Path="./config/myserver/applications"
    >
    <WebAppComponent
    Name="DefaultWebApp_myserver"
    Targets="myserver"
    WebServers="myserver"
    URI="DefaultWebApp_myserver"
    />
    </Application>

    Hi all,
    I'm trying to deploy an expanded webapp on WebLogic 6.0sp1. It's a
    migration from 5.1, some hundred JSPs, some servlets and custom tags in
    WEB-INF/classes and a few static pages. I placed the web-application
    folder in the applications folder and the server begins the deployment.
    During deployment I get a StringIndexOutOfBoundsException and the
    deployment stops (see log extract below). By the time when this happens,
    there is a new .ear file and a war file (seem to be the same) containing
    my web application. This is a real show-stopper for me, so I'd be glad
    for any recommendations.
    Thanks,
    Daniel

  • Issues with RFCSDK NW 7.11 while reading interface of a BAPI

    I working on migration of our application which uses classic RFCSDK to NW RFCSDK. I have observed a difference in behavior with RFCSDK NW compared to Classic RFCSDK and SAP GUI, while reading interface of a BAPI (BAPI_EMPLOYEE_GETLIST).
    I have described this in detail below
    1.     BAPI (BAPI_EMPLOYEE_GETLIST), has one parameter "OBJECT_ID", when checked with SAP GUI using transaction "se37" this parameter is there in "IMPORT" and "EXPORT" table separately. When interface of this BAPI is read using "RFC_GET_FUNCTION_INTERFACE" same is observed.
    2.     If I tried to read interface of this BAPI using RFCSDK NW 7.11 function "RfcGetParameterDescByIndex" the "direction" field of structure "RFC_PARAMETER_DESC" shows this parameter as "RFC_CHANGING". Also it does not have entry of this parameter in "IMPORT" or "EXPORT".
    Could I get info on why the RFCSDK NW shows this difference? How to resolve this issue?
