Suggestion about support forum

The support forum seems well designed overall, but I wish there was an "undo" button for the "I have this problem too" button. I am constantly clicking on this button by accident, and there seems to be no undo. It distorts what problems are truly important, and is confusing. Maybe just a button next to the option to receive email updates?
Not sure if this is the right place to post this, please let me know if it isn't.

You can create a thread on the Contributors forum to post your suggestion.

The warranty entitles you to complimentary phone support for the first 90 days of ownership.
If you bought the product in the U.S. directly from Apple (not from a reseller), you have 14 days from the date of delivery in which to exchange or return it for a refund. In other countries, the return policy may be different. If you bought from a reseller, its return policy applies.

  • General Q. about creating a support forum

I'm trying to create a simple support forum and I have some basic questions:
    1. Should I use Java to process the back-end or is there a simpler solution to developing a forum?
    2. Where do simple support forums store their data? What databases do they use?
    3. Are there templates I could use to accomplish this?
    Thank you.
    JJ

Actually let me amend that a little. It absolutely is uniformed, but I've been doing some work with webservices and tomcat lately and certainly wouldn't call setting all that up straight-forward. Not compared to putting some php files up and calling an install script or two.
So maybe I don't mean to say that it isn't Java's forte, just that the learning curve is a bit higher.

  • Suggestion about Report Generation Toolkit

I'm adding report generation capabilities to a labview product test application.  The report will be 2-4 pages long with text and plots.  For other applications, I've used Word Templates in the past using VBA and Visual Basis 6.   I had been planning to use the Report Generation Toolkit, but when I tried to run the examples Labview doesn't find the installation of Office, (I'm using Windows Vista).  I've already read other posts about this particular problem and other issues with the Report Generation Toolkit for Microsoft Office, including upgrading to Office 2007 and beyond and I'm beginning to wonder if there might be a better longterm solution than the Report Generation using Microsoft Office.
The two alternatives that I'm considering are HTML, and Simplicity AI's PDF toolkit (free),
       http://www.simplicityai.co.uk/products_services/products/pdftoolkit/
which I still have to investigate.  I figure I could always generate in HTML and then print to PDF using something like PDFcreator (free).
If anyone has any comments/reviews/suggestions about the report generation from Labview, I'd appreciate hearing them.

  • Can't access Aperture support forum

Hi all, not sure whether this is the right place to report a problem with the Aperture Support forum - I couldn't find anywhere to report the problem so posted here. When I try to enter it I get the following error message
    "Unsupported Browser detected.
Announcement: Apple Support Communities has discontinued support for your current browser.
In order to provide the best platform for continued innovation, Apple Support Communities suggests using the latest version of Safari."
I am using Safari Version 7.1 (9537.85.10.17.1) and I can access the other forums without any problem.
    Thanks in advance

I just got this too, on Firefox, in Private Browsing mode. I was trying to access How to remove Adware? when it redirected to the same page as fleetwood reported. I've attached a screenshot. I'm using Firefox 33.0 on Mavericks 10.9.5. I'm not sure if this is the right forum for this either.
UPDATE: The link works fine now.

  • Trying to update from 4.2.6 iPhone 4 with iTunes 10.2.2.14 - getting error 3194. Have tried everything suggested in the forums. Nothing works. Desperate for ideas.

For the past month I've been trying to update my iphone 4 (Verizon) from 4.2.6. I've got iTunes 10.2.2.14. My computer runs Windows XP.
When I try to update, I get a 3194 error message. I've tried everything that's been suggested in the forums here to fix this problem, including even uninstalling my antivirus, not just disabling it. Nothing works. I've tried resolving it through Apple Care, to no avail. Can someone please help me resolve this? This is a stock phone, it has not been jailbroken or customized. If you've resolved this yourself successfully, please let me know what you did to fix things. I'm stuck!
Thanks so much to anyone who can help with this intractable problem.

Try updating the iPhone on another computer or in another user acconut.
Apple has an article for specific error codes here -> http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3694

  • How do you find what you posted to the support forum?

Last night I posted a question about Firefox being unable to load certain https URLs, but now I can't find it. I would like to be able to find it to see if anyone has made any helpful replies. In the forum settings, I have the following checkboxes:
    Watch forum threads I start:
Watch forum threads I comment in:
Watch KB discussion threads I start:
Watch KB discussion threads I comment in:
    Send emails for private messages:
All of the above settings are checked, but I can't find where in the interface for these forums I should go to view the threads and comments that I am "watching."
I will bookmark this present support topic so that I can return to it later.
thank you for any help you can provide!

ha ha ha oh my god...
okay, thank you for the help... I see what the problem is... this web site's UI has a shortcoming...
    this URL:
    https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/home
appears to be the home page of the forums... but it is not....
the home page of the forums is buried in a link off to the side in a list labeled "For Contributors"... I mean... by seeking help in the forums, I'm now a "contributor"? ehhh... English... It'd be nice if the UI designers would use it...
the home page to the forums is found via this URL:
    https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions
See... whoever named that URL had the right idea... instead of
    https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/contributors , the person used:
    https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions
hmmm.... now if the heading on the right said:
    "For people with questions"
then I would have scanned it more closely, and I would have noticed "Support Forum Home" in the list.
I think the fact that so many people use Firefox is really a testament to how bad the other software out there really is, not to how good the Firefox stuff is or how responsive the firefox people are... E.g. is anyone going to actually learn from my above experience, and make the support forums easier to find?
Is anyone going to actually put a link to the forums in the dashboard for the account that is used to log into the forums?
    No, not a chance...
I mean, yes, I get that the link to the forums home page is always in the footer at the right, but come on, for crying out loud... so are stupid advertisements... it's a footer or side bar or whatever you want to call it... people are trained on a subconscious level, by now, to ignore that crap. If you were going to design a forum, would you take the most important links, and put them off to the side, where they are less likely to be noticed?
This is what I see when I bring up my dashboard:
    https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/user/630258
I mean, if you are a small time developer, with a few thousand users, you probably don't have the time or the resources to make something that's optimal... but when you have millions upon millions of users... optimizing your interface might be worth looking into.... you know... auditing the performance and effectiveness of your UI now and again might be a good idea... You take the few minutes that you waste a user with a confusing counter-intuitive non-standards-based interface, and you multiply that by millions of users, and what can I say... that's a *lot* of waste.
You don't even have an index of forum content... everything is found by searching... Imagine if you walked into a library, and they had NO catalog.. Instead, all books just tossed into a database, and the only way to find anything is by searching. That would be... just incredibly stupid.... That is what this forum interface is.

  • Questions about supporting TLF with Halo components in Flex 4.1

We recently decided to upgrade to the Flex 4.1 SDK after a year or so at 3.2.  We have been asked to not use the new SPARK components yet because our products would then have a mistmatch of Halo and Spark components in the UI.  We have built support for our Halo components to display html through the ".htmlText" property for the Text components.  For example, we can display strings such as "<p>Choose <b>one</b> option:</p>".  With the upgrade to Flex 4.1 a couple of questions about supporting bi-directional text have come up.  My understanding is that in order to support bi-directional text we need to use the Text Layout Framework.  Does anyone have a suggestion on how we can utilize the TLF with the Halo components in Flex 4.1?    Can we still use the ".htmlText" property somehow or is there a new property that understands the TextFormat markup?  We would love to still be able to use the limited html tags that are supported for the "htmlText" property.  Is there an option where that syntax is still understood?
    Thanks in advance!
    David

The halo components use TextField, and the spark components use TLF. Both sets have support for some html markup to import and export text. To use bidi text, you have to use TLF; TextField won't work properly.
It is possible to use TLF to build your own components, and this can work well particularly for applications with specialized needs. But if you need bidi support for advanced components like DataGrid and List, then you should use the spark components.
    Thanks!

    Hi rmmilleriii,
You should take a look at [https://support.mozilla.org/kb/latest-firefox-issues#os=mac&browser=fx9 this article] that discusses some of the issues with the latest build of Firefox.
There is some information in there that should help you to resolve your issue. Luckily, it is a very easy fix.
    Hopefully this helps!

Having worked in technical support myself (not for HP), I can tell you that 99% of employees know nothing more about using computers than the people who ring up and request help.
It is easier and cheaper for HP to provide the "illusion" of support than providing *actual* support. This is why most of the support staff are unable to answer more than the most simple questions. It is also why HP refuse to provide support for anything more than a year old - they know most people will give up and just buy another product.
Being in the similar position of trying (and failing) to get support, I can say that I will definitely not be buying a HP product again in future.

  • Firefox Support forum web page doesn't show any text

All other web pages load perfectly except Firefox Support Forum. It shows only search box and some tag words. When I type into search box, nothing shows but when I hit enter I get only tag words that I typed. I've tried reinstalling FF and started in safe mode. Nothing fixes it. I've been trying to figure this out for months. I've tried Chrome and IE8. Evidently its not a browser problem. I'm using Vista Home Premium SP2. I'm sending this from my XP, no problem with it.

fixed, thanks for your help with this.
Please advise if there is there any reason to be concerned about changing this from the default setting.

  • Support forum or open mic night?

Well I've made the transition to the new forum.
Question: Is this a support forum only, or do we get to start wide-open discussions about dithering and phase cancellation?
I am a long-time Cool Edit / Audition user and am very comfortable with the product, don't really have any problems with it, but have always enjoyed answering a few questions on the old forum when I felt I had something useful to add. As much as I enjoy reading stuff over at the gearslutz forum, there's just too many folks on there doing the (..........analog is the way, the only way, and If you don't hire a Mastering engineer you're screwed, and if you don't have Neumann mics in your closet you have no place in this industry...........) ...........type attitudes for me......
Just wondering if were free to discuss things outside of the realm of Audition support?

    > Well I've made the transition to the new forum
No, your posting history is gone, just like mine.
    >  but have always enjoyed answering a few questions on the old forum
    >  when I felt I had something useful to add
So did I, however for some as yet unexplained reason ... quite possibly a feature of this wonderful new bbs system ... offline posting seems to be broken, so it really is a so _did_ I.
    > [paraphrasing] analog is the way, the only way, and If you don't hire a
    > Mastering engineer you're screwed, and if you don't have Neumann mics
    > in your closet you have no place in this industry
Seems like an arrogant attitude system over there, wherever it was - placename intentionally omitted, It is great that we do not encounter this problem here in any shape or form.
Recording practices have always been relevant here, because they always come up in the context of what you can and what you can not fix, but to get good posts on that you need to have skilled practicing recordists available as participants.
In my experience as Relaynet (tm) Conference Host, the first and quite possibly the only one that hosted non-tourism related conferences while not a US resident, it is vital for a system like this that the users feel welcomed, they are after all a vital resource. It was in the job description that actually having to ""moderate"" was to have failed, the primary tool was being a good example. Howard Belasco taught me a lot about why and how the american way, including free information flow and room for criticism has made the US so great a nation. It was a great system!
