Suggestion for Oracle: Distribute java using up2date

I've been hunting high and low for the simplest possible way to both a) install and b) keep updated "sun java" on our oel-boxes. Earlier, we've been downloading and installing RPMs from java.sun.com, but that of course deals only with installation, and not updating.
Hence, I believe this is a suggestion -- but if someone says "you can do it now", consider this the question "how":
* Create an up2date-channel that contains the latest java-versions (jre, jdk, 32bit, 64bit)
* Let me install it using "up2date java-1.6.0-sun-devel"
* ...and let "update -u" keep it updated
Doing this will help me install and enable me to keep it updated -- both of which are laudable goals, I think!
Also, it seems that RedHat already does this, using their "Supplementary Server" channel, ref http://docs.redhat.com/docs/en-US/JBoss_Enterprise_SOA_Platform/5/html/Getting_Started_Guide/appe-install_jdk_rhel.html.

btw - not that this helps your case right now but
we already have virtualbox on ULN in a channel and it's up to date / current. We'll do a better job at all the others as well.

  • Suggestions for Oracle 10g  Installation using VMware in Windows XP.

    Hi All,
I am using Intel(R) Core (TM) 2 Duo CPU P8600 @2.4 Ghz with 1.98 GB RAM with Windows XP with 70 GB disk space. I would like to install a 2 node RAC with ASM and if possible also configure a DG for learning and testing purpose. Please advice if this will work using a VMware . Is RAC VM possible only Linux or with Windows as well ?
I think 11g is out of scope since i don't have sufficient memory.
I am new to VMware and have not done any installations or used it till now.
It would be appreciated if you could help with these doubts.
    1. How much memory can be allocated to each instances? If i am installing Linux how much memory is required ?
    2. what will be the load on the CPU and will i be able to use it without any resource crunch ?
3.Once memory is allocated to VM, can it be claimed back , is it like if i am not starting the VMware services.. i have the full 2 GB in discretion?
    4. Can 10g Standard editions be used for learning purposes?
If the above hardware is not sufficient, please suggest a suitable configuration

You do not have sufficient hardware - you will likely need 6GB of RAM or more, plus 100G of disk or more and a multiprocessor machine. Each VM will need at least 2GB of RAM, and once all of the VMs/RAC are installed, the system will be pretty busy running 3 OS's (host and two guests) and two databases. If you do not start up the VMs, all of the memory is available for the host to use. 10g is no longer available for download, you will have to use 11g - yes SE edition is sufficient for learning purposes.

  • Suggestions for Oracle ADF learners

    Hi ADF experts,
Some one suggest,For Oracle ADF learners must having java knowledge ?
I am new to JAVA & ADF. But I want to learn Oracle ADF. Is java skills must to learn Oracle ADF.
I am Oracle BPM11g developer. So for Oracle BPM11g,Oracle ADF is front end for user interaction.
    Guide me.
    Best Regards,
    KasiRaju.

Core Java should be enough to begin with. If you know the concepts of any OOPS programming language (C/C++), Learning Core Java should be very easy.
ADF is nothing but Oracles version of JSF (Java Server Faces) with UI components. My Point here is, it is Java that sits at the base of ADF. Hence, I would say u Must have Java knowledge to develop a REAL useful page/application.

Any suggestions for an animation program using photographs that can be incorporated into iMovie or Final Cut express?

The MTS files will always be grayed out. Do not drill down into the folder structure. Select the top level of the AVCHD folder structure. If this is a hard drive it may take a very long time to load. People have reported 20 minutes to half an hour.
Other possible problems, conflicts with other software like Perian. Also if there is mixed media on the drive; media in different formats can make the directory unreadable. What are the exact specifications of your media? What settings are you using in FCE?

  • Filesystem Suggestions for Oracle on Linux

Hello. We've been running Oracle on Solaris with Veritas Volume Manager (w/ qio) for about 4 years now and we are gearing up for going Oracle (9i) on Linux (AS). Since we are just getting started I wanted to run through setting up a preliminary test machine and Oracle install (I.E., we don't want to spend too much $ just yet).
Can anyone supply some feedback on the various filesystems that come with Redhat or that are available from the open source community (raw, ext3fs, xfs, reiserfs)? Eventually we may look at things like Veritas for Linux or OCFS, but for setting up a initial testbed, might yall recommend some pros and cons, perhaps some performance estimates of going raw, versus the various linux filesystems? Also, is there a good document available for setting up raw partitions on linux for oracle? Any and all feedback would be appreciated.

    Hi,
Keep in mind, if you need to use large amount of data, with databank files bigger than 2GB, some people consider the reiserfs the better option. Pther way ext3 is a good one.

  • Suggestions for tracks i can use on a 3 min sports promo?

I am creating a 3 min sports promo for a client, they are willing to pay for the use of a well known pop or rock song from the last 10 years, i just need to find the right song and contact the publishers for using it, it will be used one time only at a big Sports dinner. It has to have lyrics that fit the images or a good instrumental, they will be positive sports related images and footage that i have shot thoughout the past year. Any suggestion for songs anyone?

    U2, Beautiful Day
    U2, Vertigo
    Foo Fighters, All My Life
    Eminem, Lose Yourself
Limp Bizkit, Rollin (depends on your audience's tolerance for obscenity)
    Foo Fighters, My Hero
My favorite is Beautiful Day for this kind of thing, because it will not offend, it is sophisticated (as pop songs go) and it stirs the right mix of nostalgia and suppressed joy to push a lot of emotional buttons.
The Foo Fighters tunes drive a little harder, and have a bit more transparent desperation in their vibe. Better for a pre-game "pump tape" than a banquet.
Eminem – it is a song about not choking. "You only get one shot…" Again better for a pump tape or a teaser or promotion.
You probably should not use Rollin'. I just threw it in there because cutting to it is just too much fun.
Vertigo is also here because it is great fun to cut to. If the audience is young, Vertigo might work better than Beautiful Day. Less sentimental.
    Good luck.

  • Need suggestion for ISE distributed deployment model in two different data centers along with public certificate for HTTPS

    Hi Experts,
I am bit confused about ISE distributed deployment model .
I have two data centers one is DC & other one is as a DR I have  requirement of guest access service implementation using CWA and get public certificate for HTTPS to avoid certificate error on client devices :
how do i deploy ISE persona for HA in this two data centers
After reading cisco doc , understood that we can have two PAN ( Primary in DC  & Secondary in DR ) like wise for MnT (Monitoring will be as same as PAN ) however I can have 5 PSN running in secondary i.e. in DR ISE however I have confusion about HA for PSN .. since we have all PSN in secondary , it would not work for HA if it fails
Can anybody suggest me the best deployment solution for this scenario ?
Another doubt about public certificate :
Public Certificate: The ISE domain must be a registered or part of a registered domain name on the Internet. for that I need Domain name being used from customer .
Please do correct me if I am wrong about certificate understanding :
since Guest will be the outside users , we can not use certificate from internal CA , we need to get the certificate from service provider and install the same in both the ISE servers
Can anybody explain the procedure to opt the public certificate for HTTPS from service provider ? And how do i install it in both the ISE servers ?

Hi there. Let me try answering your questions:
PSN HA: The PSNs are not configured as "primary" or "secondary" inside your ISE deployment. They are just PSN nodes as far as ISE is concerned. Instead, inside your NADs (In your case WLCs) you can specify which PSN is primary, which one is secondary, etc. You can accomplish this by:
    1. Defining all PSN nodes as AAA radius servers inside the WLC
    2. Then under the SSID > AAA Servers Tab, you can list the AAA servers in the order that you prefer. As a result, the WLC will always use the first server listed until that server fails/gets reloaded, etc.
    3. As a result, you can have one WLC or SSID prefer PSN server A (located in primary DC) while a second WLC or SSID prefer PSN server B (located in backup DC)
Last but not the least, you could also place PSNs behind a load balancer and that way the traffic would be equally distributed between multiple PSNs. However, the PSN nodes must be Layer 2 adjacent, which is probably not the case if they are located in two different Data Centers
Certificates: Yes, you would want to get a public certificate to service the guest portal. Getting a public/well known certificate would ensure that most devices out there would trust the CA that signed your ISE certificate. For instance, VeriSign, GoDaddy, Entrust are some of the ones out there that would work just fine. On the other hand, if you use a certificate that was signed by your internal CA, then things would be fine for your internal endpoints that trust your internal CA but for any outsiders (Guests, contractors, etc) that do not trust and do not know who your internal CA is would get a certificate error when being redirected to the ISE guest portal. This in general is only a "cosmetic" issue and if the users click "continue" and add your CA as a trusted authority, the guest page would load and the session would work. However, most users out there would not feel safe to proceed and you will most likely get a lot of calls to your helpdesk :)
    I hope this helps!

  • Import utility/mechanism for Oracle in Java

    Hi,
    Here's my requirement:
I need to upload text(csv) files into Oracle tables through Java code.
The code needs to be generic, so that someone calling it just provides the table name and the file to be uploaded; and the file gets uploaded into the table.
Parsing the file line-by-line is not an option, as:
    1. The file/table formats will keep changing during the applications life-cycle.
    2. Performance issues, as the file sizes will be huge (>100 MB).
The other option I explored was the sqlldr utility from Oracle. Its quite fast and easy to use but is a command-line utility which would have to be called through the use of Runtime.exec() or similar mechanism, which doesn't seem like a good choice for an enterprise application when seen in the perspective of error/exception handling, code executing outside JVM etc.
Does anyone know of any similar utility written in Java or any other innovative way of handling such a requirement?
    Any pointers would be appreciated.

Parsing the file line-by-line is not an option, as:
    1. The file/table formats will keep changing during
the applications life-cycle.What's the problem with that? You will always need to specify table name, and columns to insert into. The app will then read the file line by line and insert records into the database (but you should do the inserts in batches, and not line by line)
    2. Performance issues, as the file sizes will be huge
    (>100 MB).100MB is not huge.

  • Dynamic 3d-Party DS Import for Oracle in Java-App

    Hi,
i'm currently trying to implement some sort of dynamic import-functionality from within a java-webapplication. The User should be able to select different datasources (MS Access, Excel, CSV, MS SQL-Server) from a browser-interface and then have them imported into one consolidated Server (on a regular/monthly baisis). Obviously it would be of great help if one could use the functionality offered by the Oracle-Server from within the java-application to support this process. I am currently exploring the Oracle-"Landscape" for a proper solution/concept for this matter and would be very greatful for some help or a slight push in the right direction.
    Desired functionality:
    - Build up Connections to Datasources on the filesystem (MS Access, MS Excel, CSV) (dynamically selectable from within the application)
    - Import the Data into a Oracle-Server, whilst taking into account the different dialects and constrains etc.
    What i found so far:
    SQL Loader:
Not a valid option since the user would have to convert all databases into flatfiles before every import session.
    Oracle Data Pump:
This one offers a complete Java-API, which is great, but i am not sure how i could use it to import Data from a 3d party datasource (is this possible?).
    Oracle Generic Connectivity:
Allows the usage of excel or access databases from within oracle as if they were oracle tables(?). One big benefit would be the abstraction from the different dialects. Question is how to setup the connection from within the java-code (manipulate the initsid-files and probably setup the ole-db or odbc connections). I guess there is no java-API for some parts of this functionality?
    Oracle SQL Developer Migration Workbench:
This tool actually comes quite close to the desired Import-functionality (which is why i choose this forum for my post). Would it be possible to access some of the functionality this tool offers from within a java-application, to automate the import on a regular basis as described?
Are there any other good options? Possibly even with a java-API?
Thank you very much in advance!

  • Preparing for Oracle OCA 11g using an Oracle Express 10g database

As a software application developer, I have been considering Oracle certification for a while to enhance my skill set. Unfortunately I don't have access to a commercial Oracle installation, and would like to use a free version of Oracle Express during my studies. The latest OCA courses largely focus on Oracle 11g, and it would appear that there is no free (Express) 11g database available yet.
Could anyone please advise me whether it would be possible and practical to prepare for the 1Z0-051 Oracle Database 11g: SQL Fundamentals I and 1Z0-052 Oracle Database 11g: Administration I exams using an Oracle Express 10g database instance, while accompanied by the relevant Oracle 11g study material? In other words, is the overlap between Oracle 10g and 11g sufficient that a solid understanding of 10g could allow me to successfully sit the 11g exams? Furthermore, would the Express edition of the database provide sufficient functionality to prepare for the Administration exam?

(http://education.oracle.com/pls/web_prod-plq-dad/db_pages.getpage?page_id=41&p_org_id=1080544&lang=US&p_exam_id=1Z0_051 says Exam 051 has been validated against Oracle Database 10g and Oracle Database 11g. Training on either version will be appropriate preparation.).
For 1z0-052 the situation is different. Oracle 10g express edition hides some of the administration tasks ... you really need to be using 11g.
If you dont waht Oracle 11g all over your regular machine then I would typically recommend install Oracle Enterprise Linux either on a spare machine with a dual core or HT processor and with 2GB or more of memory (eg Dell gx280 or better); or using a virtualisation solution on your current machine (ram would need to be 3GB or higher) (eg virtualbox or whatever ... though windows as a guest can have a license issue).

  • Suggestion for oracle developer 2.0

could oracle developer add some new feature to monitor the oracle performance.are there any tools anybody used to monitor the oracle performance, please give me some advice, thanks.

You can make feature requests on the SQL Developer Exchange (see the link at the top of the forum).
SQLDeveloper already has support for explain plan, tracing and profiling which are most of what you need for development performance testing in development. There is also a plug in from 4th Elephant which does some instance monitoring.
I would be strongly opposed to bloating SQLDeveloper with performance monitoring features. Oracle Enterprise Manager provides all the performance monitoring you could need. There are also a number of third party tools, but I don't know enough about any of them to recommend any of them.

  • Infrastructure suggestion for Oracle RAC and Dataguard

    Hello,
We are working on migration business proposal and need to suggest HA and DR infrastructure solution with Oracle 11G databases. I am thinking to suggest Oracle 11g RAC and Dataguard to meet this requirement. We also wanted to cover Dev, Test and Pre Prod along with Prod in new environment. Can someone suggest cost effective, stable and scalable infrastructure for this requirement
    Best regards,
    Venkat

In terms of cost ? Perhaps.
    In terms of performance? NO.
Bear in mind I'm not trying to sell anything here, but in my experience hardly anything matches the performance of Exadata. It has specific features for the DB such as de iDB protocol which enables the offloading of queries to the exadata storage servers. More unique features include: storage indexes, HCC compression, smart flash cache... It's all a matter of how much you want to spend.
Yes, you can have all your servers on the same box if you want, just make sure it is not a single point of failure. (Have appropriate safeguards in place in case of power failure, Data center catastrophes, etc). In case of LPARs on the same box, be aware of one server over-utilizing resources which would affect the other LPARs (configurable).
    More info on Exadata: http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/server-storage/engineered-systems/exadata/dbmachine-x3-twp-1867467.pdf
If your company has a tight budget you might also look at your options with Database appliance: http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/server-storage/engineered-systems/database-appliance/documentation/oracle-db-appliance…
Database appliance has more flexibility in terms of licensing and it's also a complete hardware solution from oracle for Databases.
