Suggestion: Offer Pre-Paid Data usage that doesn't expire!

I'm paying the extra $150 for the 3G version because sometimes I want to use it when I'm out and about. But 90% of the time I'll be in a wifi area. So I don't want to pay a monthly fee for that.
I'd rather buy 250mb of data so I can budget it sparingly across a number of months.

When you think of it, no one offers a plan Like Apollo_13 describes. Your cable TV provider doesn't care if your TV was off all month. You'll still pay the 95 bucks. Your phone company doesn't care if your phone was off all month either. You must still pay the full contract cost. No Internet service provider charges by data usage. The rates are fixed and only vary by the speed of the connection you buy. Doesn't matter if you don't go online all month. I think it helps keep the cost down, actually. If we paid by amounts used, then the costs wouldn't be spread out as much and it would end up actually costing more on a per megabyte basis. You might save some money on a low usage month, but use it a lot and you'd be paying a lot more than the fixed rates currently applicable.

  • Excessive & unexplained pre-paid data usage

My prepaid mobile broadband which I use on my home computer -After re-charging with the new deal - 16GB for 730 days - all I have left now is 5.99GB - after only 2 months!!There is no obvious reason for this, I now spend minimal time online, checking emails, internet banking, check Fb & that's it. I don't download music or movies, to afraid to watch any Youtube.  Once/twice a week I make calls via Skype - max time 15mins.I have password protection on my modem, I have set my windows downloading/installing to manual.  I have set my antivirus protection to "economy" - which was recommended to save chewing thru my data usage. I now wonder what's next to do????  Up until 6 months ago, this problem did not exist - I was able to complete 18mths of study, using the internet daily & doing massive research, downloading etc, then all has gone pearshaped!!! If anyone can provide advice - it would be much appreciated, thank you.

I have had exactly the same problem. Logged in on sunday to check emails and it took 1959Mb of my data and shut down my account. Reported it, still waiting. Went in to my local Telstra store and they phoned help (overseas) for me. They did not even have my current address so I could verify who I was. Afet half an hour I eventually got put back to an operator who asked me if I wanted to pay my account that was paid a week ago. If there were awards for disgusting customer service nobody would come near Telstra. In 2015 I have been without internet for 2 days now.

  • Is it possible to do a multiple-records data merge that doesn't generate multiple text boxes?

Is it possible to do a multiple-records data merge that doesn't generate multiple text boxes? And if so, how?
For publications such as a directory with contact information, it would be easier to manage the layout by merging multiple records into one text box. However, it seems like the only option in InDesign is to merge the records into each of their own text boxes.

No, but it's possible to stitch the frames together after the merge, then reflow.  See Adobe Community: Multiple record data merge into paragraph styles-applies the wrong style

  • Mysterious "BigPond Content" charges on iPad pre-paid data service

Every Sunday, at approximately the same time (17:30 or thereabouts) a mysterious BigPond Content charge of $9.95 appears in the Messages tab of the data usage area on the 24x7 app for that service. Does anyone have any idea what these might be for? The device is used by one of my family and has a minimum number of apps installed on it. This is burning up credit and hence the amount of available data.
    Many thanks.

This sounds as though the service may have been used to sign up to a 'premium' service which bills directly to your account.
I would suggest jumping onto Live Chat and asking them for the service that is generating the charge, and then you can work towards having that subscription cancelled.

  • How can I get around recovering a data file that doesn't need to be??

Sorry I am opening a new thread, but this is the biggest emergency of my 20+ year career.
    Oracle 11g
    1) redo logs were deleted
    2) We don't do backups of the database. It is only used to demo our product, it is not a prod database
    3) To get around the problem of the redo logs (which caused Oracle not able to start) I rebuilt the control file with the RESETLOGS option on
Now, when I try to start the database and open it with alter database open resetlogs; I get this:
    alter database open resetlogs
    ERROR at line 1:
ORA-01113: file 1 needs media recovery
    ORA-01110: data file 1: '/u01/oradata/orcl/system01.dbf'
I don't understand why it wants this and I have no idea to get around it. I don't know what to recover FROM as I already said there are no backups. But why should I have to recover anything, there never was any data loss, only the redo logs were deleted. Why can't I just tell Oracle to forget the recovery, the data files are fine?

Yeah, it was a waste of effort to rebuild your control file. Oracle needs the redologs to perform instance recovery prior to opening the database. That doesn't change just because the control file is rebuilt.
But you unfortunately don't have the necessary redo log file and no database backup. That means you are in real danger of losing your database completely. If you have a current support contract, you need to open a Service Request with Oracle support to see if you can salvage your database.
As P. Forstmann indicates, there is an undocumented way to try to open a database that is missing needed redo log data. But trying and failing may leave you worse off than you are right now. So contacting Oracle support for guidance is the right approach.

  • I am trying to download the new episode of Game of Thrones on my iPad. We are currently travelling in Italy and have an unlimited pre- paid data plan with the Italian carrier Wind.  When I try download the episode through iTunes I get an error message

Hi there, traveling through Italy with my iPad. Purchased a unlimited prepaid data plan with Italian carrier WIND.  Has been working excellent, but when I try to download a new episode of Game of Thrones, I get an error message which says that I have to connect to a wi fi network or download the episode on my MacBook.  Why can't I download using the microsim and prepaid data plan?  Any help will be great thank you!

Unfortunately downloads larger than 20mbps require wifi due to most carriers having data limits. This "requirement" keeps people who are not familiar with data and what takes up a lot of data from going over.

  • Ipad2 w/ 3G shows 'no service" and 3G doesn't work. What's wrong? I do have paid data . It does work on wifi

Why does iPad2 w/ 3G show "no service"   ? I have available paid data. 3G doesn't work but wifi does work. It's been working until today. What's wrong?

Is cell data turned on? Are you out in the boonies somewhere where there is no cell service? Call your provider to see if they are having a service outage.

  • View or print pre-paid tax invoice statements

You can view and print off tax invoice statements for your Pre-Paid usage over the last 180 days through My Account. This facility is free of charge.
Please note: because of the way GST is applied, these tax invoices are only available after you've used your Pre-Paid credit, and not before such as at the time of recharge.
You can also obtain a receipt for recharging your Pre-Paid service via My Account, recharge online or when you purchase a voucher from one of our retail outlets.
Please note: this is a receipt, which is not a tax invoice, but can still be used in place of a tax invoice when used in accordance with Australian Taxation Office (ATO) guidelines.
We can't issue a tax invoice for your pre-paid recharge
A 'tax invoice' is a defined document for 'GST' purposes only under the GST Act to show the amount of GST charged on a supply. Since Pre-Paid recharges are not subject to GST, we are prevented at law from issuing a tax invoice for a recharge displaying a GST amount.
This is outlined in Division 100 of the GST Act, which applies to recharges for telecommunications services such as smartphones and tablets. We can, however, offer a receipt for a Pre-Paid recharge if purchased through one of our retail outlets, which can be used in place of a tax invoice in accordance with ATO guidelines.
You can use a receipt from your pre-paid recharge in place of a tax invoice for your own GST purposes
Telstra (and other telecommunication providers) raised this issue with the ATO to reach a resolution for customers that are GST registered. The ATO ruled that 'receipts' could be used as 'tax invoices' provided the customer could still demonstrate that the usage of the recharge was subject to GST. The ATO ruling is available through the ATO website and is stated as follows:
Sections within Issue 13 - Tax invoices for prepaid telephone cards
    Nature of the arrangement
The amendments to vouchers provisions clarify that prepaid phone cards are eligible Division 100 vouchers and are not subject to GST at the time the phone cards are issued. Telephone cards are typically sold through retail outlets. The retailer will usually provide an invoice or tax invoice when the phone card is supplied. However, the taxable supply is the supply of domestic phone calls by the telco.
Accordingly the tax invoice should be issued by the telco that makes the telecommunication supplies. Due to the way in which phone cards are distributed, the telco may not have sufficient reasonable way of knowing the details of the recipient of the telecommunication supplies in order to issue them with a tax invoice.
Further, in many instances the price of the telecommunication supplies (each individual phone call, for example) will be less than $82.50 (GST inclusive) and so the telco would not have a legal obligation to issue a tax invoice.
    Issue
What are the tax invoice requirements where phone calls are made with a pre-paid telephone card that is considered to be a FVV [Face Value Voucher] for GST purposes?
    Decision
The Commissioner [of Taxation] will treat the receipt provided by the retailer for the purchase of a phone card as a tax invoice for the telephone calls that are made using that phone card. This decision applies only to pre-paid phone cards that are considered to be FVVs for GST purposes. The person using the phone card may need to substantiate that all telecommunication supplies:
Were taxable supplies to them (for example, not GST-free international mobile roaming supplies); and were all creditable acquisitions
If they want to claim input tax credits based on 1/11th of the price of the phone card shown on any invoice or tax invoice covered by the determination
GST applied to a pre-paid service
In accordance with Division 100 of the GST Act, GST is applied to each separate type of usage you make within the recharge amount and expiry time. Each instance of usage is taken to be a separate supply of a service for GST purposes and is assessed as to the application of GST at that time. Some usage may be GST-free and therefore no GST will be charged on those usages. This is why we're able to offer tax invoices through My Account for your usage.

    I don't understand it
i purchased my recharge voucher online and in one line in your QA it is written that you can still get your tax invoice after you have used your credit. In one line it is written we do not issue tax invoices purchased online. My question is will I be able to get my tax invoice after i have utilised my credit or not?

  • What is the latetest iPhone I can use for a pre paid phone plan

I want to buy a phone and pre-pay month to month. Everyone says I can't but my X-wife, my daughter and my granddaughter all have that type of service.

That depends on where you are and what carrier you want to use.
In the US, there are no supported GSM carriers that offer pre-paid service for the iPhone. There are a number of CDMA carriers that do, but you must purchase a phone specifically for their network.

  • Ipad 2 per paid data sim - Greece

    Hi All,
Wife is booking a holiday to greece and I want to take my ipad with me.
Obviously I dont wanna pay roaming charges on the sim i use in the UK.
Does anyone know if you can get a pre paid data sim in greece for ipad 2?
If so, how do i get it and how much will it cost, network .... etc
Instructions also would be very much appreciated.
    Many Thanks

I am experiencing a simular issue.
I have the Ipad with retina display. I had 4G working and then decided to change my credit card info (to a different charge card) on the ipad. As soon as I changed my credit card the 4G stopped working. I've done the network settings reset and that didn't fix it. I worked with customer support for over an hour today and they couldn't fix it, they said we need to replace the SIM card but I don't think they are right as it stopped working the second i changed my credit card #. Of course AT&T was successful in charging my new credit card... just not providing internet service...

  • Skype via 3G not showing on data usage?

I live in the US and received a skype call from a buddy in Greece. We're both using our iPhones. I'm on 3G...he is on wi-fi. We had a 5min call, but when I check AT&T data usage, I don't see any data usage that reflects my skype call using 3G. How is that?

From the call receivers point of view, a Skype call to a mobile or landline appears to be just another phone call, and is subject to any local charges you may have to pay to receive calls (you'll probably pay to receive calls if you were outside your home country). A Skype call doesn't require the person called to have Skype installed, or to have a data connection, as the routing of the call is done via the Internet, but ultimately the call is connected the same way as any other call - through the telecoms network.
If you call someone, you'll need the WiFi connection or 3G to make the call, in which case it'll show up as data usage if 3G is used.
You'll probably find that your Greek friend will pay a small charge per minute to Skype (perhaps a few cents of a Euro per minute) to make the call, but it is very cheap, even to international mobiles. Skype in turn may pay a fraction of this charge to AT&T to connect the call for you, and to your iPhone it'll probably look like it's a local call rather than an international one.
Check out the Skype pages for more info on how this works.

  • Sudden increase of data usage with my jetpack.

This is crazy!  For the first few months using my jetpack, my usage was consistent with my usage when I was with Sprint.  I monitor my usage on a regular basis.  So you can image my surprise when I received two text messages in the middle of the night, 15 minutes apart telling me I was at 75% and the 90% of my 14 gig limit, just 17 days into my billing cycle.  We had used just over 4 gig to this point, an average month.  I contacted Verizon immediately.  I was told that Verizon was having technical difficulties but she still put me through to a tech support person.  The Tech gave me a song and dance about my data usage that did not match up with my data usage that was being reported on My Verizon, so I pushed the issue and called back.  The customer service rep started an investigation on my behalf.  When she called me several days later, I was informed that the usage was legit and it was my fault because I had left my jetpack on even when we were not using the internet and there must have been updates occurring.  I was also told that nothing could be done until my next bill was issued.  We run Linux and do not run ANY automatic updates.  After turning off my jetpack for several days, my daughter turned it on for less than 30 minutes to check her email and blogs for her college class.  It used in excess of .5 gig during this time.  I will be taking my jetpack into the closest Verizon store to get checked out.  If this is not resolved to my satisfaction, I will be eating the early cancelation charge and dropping Verizon.  I would rather pay a little more through an internet satellite provider than be duped by a company unwilling to fix an obvious problem.

I can see by the posts on this site there are no solutions to an obvious problem with the Verizon Jetpack. My data usage says I have used over 15GBs! in a few hour period and I was only on the internet for about and hour and just the usual checking my email, bank statement, Facebook. My jetpack worked fine up until a two and a half months ago  I have contacted Verizon a month ago about excessive data usage reporting. So far this month it says I have over 15G used! No way could it be. My browsing hasn't changed. My computer hasn't changed. I have not downloaded any music or movies for months and I shut off the automatic run on videos on Facebook. I've lived in the same house for 35 years. I shut my jetpack off when I'm done .. If I turn on the Jetpack. and check email and do some browsing,,.within half a day to a day I get a notice that says I've used almost 2 more GB of data!! This is insane. I haven't watched anything on Netflix since last April or May and even then I didn't have any overages. This is a new problem. I took my Jetpack in to our local Verizon Store and all he could do was confirm the data usage. The lady from online support who chatted with me last month said she would back charge to the cheaper plan for a month and then drop it the next month, but now my account shows I'm on a 14 GB plan (use to be 10 then she put it at 12 supposedly for one month..so don't know how in the heck it's now at 14) and it is saying I'm over my data usage. Right now I'm using my phone hotspot. I do not have overages being reported when I use this connection. I also have used my daughters hotspot and NO problem. Face it , to whatever Verizon Tech may be reading this... The problem is there's a bug with the Jetpack 4g or a problem with it's data reporting. I don't believe a large corporation would try to dishonestly upcharge data. I used the old Jetpack in 2011 and 2012 and NEVER had an overage problem. I updated to this new one last November and didn't have a problem until about 2 months ago. I'm an older senior and this is a big problem on a fixed income. My internet usage is about the same as it's been for the past decade. That's why I called Verizon about this problem. I thought maybe the account had been hacked somehow and someone was piggy backing on my device but with the postings on this site and others I see it's a Verizon Jetpack problem! NO ONE wants to Help. The replies I get from Verizon is " Well, this is what the data report says, so you must be using it somehow, with updates or background programs etc. " When NOTHING has changed on my end and it doesn't happen on other WiFi equipment it's obvious this is a Verizon Jetpack problem.. I am just not going to use my Jetpack anymore and believe when I say it will NOT be recommended to anyone we know, not that that will make a dent in anyones life at Verizon, and I use to think it was really a great tool for traveling etc. My husband and I do have the contract with Verizon and will run it out but this has been a really bad experience. BTW..I only hook this up to our computer at home or when we use the tablet up at our cabin,.so only one device at a time and no big downloads.

  • Lights Blinking - Bottom 4 Buttons on Phone / Skype Running / Data Usage

A couple times I have noticed the 4 buttons at the bottom of my phone (Menu/Back/Home) start blinking or flashing. Is this the phone trying to tell me something or a glitch of sorts? I know one time I had a text message that I hadn't noticed had come in, the other, I think I had a missed call, but not 100% sure but have noticed it a couple times when a phone call was coming in and then one day, as I moved the phone away from my ear to hang up on a phone call I had been on, they were blinking. No logic or pattern to the occurrences that I've noticed.
And Skype and IM Mobile? I don't use Skype or IM of any kind and understand I cannot uninstall these from my phone like a lot of other applications but it annoys me when it shows it as running as that's just an unnecessary draw on MY battery power. And Tetris? Funny, the only options are a demo version or to purchase it? I mean if I have an app I cannot uninstall, at least give me a decent version to play. And sorry, these kinds of agreements between Verizon and these companies that lock their application on my phone do not entice me to use their app. Its a business practice I don't care for and therefore the last thing I will do is support the business but I rant and digress... So if I'm stuck with this garbage, is there at least any way I can permanently turn off these applications that I cannot uninstall?
And any help in understanding why, if I do not turn on any applications that I have downloaded, that if I have my data on, and sitting on my desk but not touching it, it looks like I access data every hour of every day when I know I'm not even touching the phone? And yes, on the applications I have downloaded, none are set to update automatically and I have the update automatically turned off in the settings on the phone. I can see the few times I use the data, but I'm wondering about all the data usage that shows like .00001kb up to 8 kb.
    Any help appreciated!

yes, you are correct, the phone comes with a bunch of apps that you may never use and can not remove them.
I went a few rounds with verzion several times, they basically say its there if you want to use it.
yes, you PAID for a phone you have little control over and they FORCE you to run apps (ever notice that skype runs a service that auto restarts if you kill it?).  they say it's a small amout of resources and it's there if you want to use it.
Like you, I don't want to use it and I want it gone but alas Verizon says I must have it and it must run!

    Hi Louis,
    Thanks for ur immediate reply!
And the Invoice can be paid in installments right,In that Case If a invoice amount is 10,000$ and the Incoming Payment is 5,000$, At that time the <b>DocStatus in OINV will be 'O' ,ie Open right</b>.Can u confirm that to me.
If a Invoice Status is Close, whether it means the Invoice amount got paid.Since i have a demo database in which none of the invoices is closed. So please confirm that status.
