Suggestions on project please.

I am doing a project for a friend of mine. I do not have any
experience
with video in Flash but have been picking my through it
today. My question
is how you would recommend I do this.
The final flash movie will consist of an SWF, and XML file
and a whole bunch
of movies (converted to SWFs or FLVs *part of the question)
and some photos.
The SWF will start, load the XML file and start playing the
movies in order.
When one completes I want to load the next, so on and so
forth. This will
run on the machine locally and call all files locally (no
web).
So, first, I have Sorenson Squeeze and Sothink FlashVideo
Encoder and can
convert to either SWF or FLV, which is better to use here?
Also, what
component (if I use one) is suggested? I want something that
has a built in
event broadcast and event handler when the video completes so
I can load the
next video. After all of the videos play through (say 15, 1
minute movies)
the SWF will start over again with #1.
Hopefully this will loop all day without any restarts. Since
I don't have
any video experience I would really appreciate some
suggestions.

Let me preface this response by saying that i'm not a video
expert, and i would hope others chime in here...
but i know FLV's are good for streaming over an internet
connection, and since you're running it locally you may want to
consider plain old swf video for the ease of use factor... you
don't have to mess with the media playback component (or any such
superfluosness), you can just use 'loadMovie' and treat them like
any other movie in flash. You can detect when the video is finished
playing with some code like this (assume loadedMC holds the video
that's playing)
onEnterFrame = function()
if (loadedMC._currentframe >= loadedMC._totalframes)
// movie is done- notify

Another way. You can use a USB flash drive & the camera connection kit.
Plug the USB flash drive (works the same with an SD card) into your computer & create a new folder titled DCIM. Then put your movie/photo files into the folder. The files must have a filename with exactly 8 characters long (no spaces) plus the file extension (i.e., my-movie.mov; DSCN0164.jpg).
Now plug the flash drive into the iPad using the camera connection kit. Open the Photos app, the movie/photo files should appear & you can import. (You can not export using the camera connection kit.)

Hi jDev Team. Please advise on how you envisioned a developer (or developer team) to split up a large scale enterprise application amongst projects. For example, a typical accounting system with AR, AP, Inventory, and Order Entry. I would be inclined to have each of these modules as a jDev project in the same workspace, but the problem is that you really need to further segment the project for the various tiers.
On the other hand, is it possible to setup different workspaces and somehow relate the workspaces together, because its really one big intermingled application, where the end user needs simultaneous access.
Please advise. TIA.

Right now we just use workspaces to contain all projects for various tiers. We're working on a more hierarchial structure for the future, but for now we just put it all into one workspace.

Open your Displays system preferences. Is there an Arrangement tab and does it show two screens? If no Arrangement tab then your mac does not know it has two screens. Maybe smc and pram reset will shake it free and maybe not. Maybe there's something wrong with the connection. I recently volunteered to help transcribe Birth, Marriage and Death (BMD) records dating back to 1837 for FreeBMD -- a registered charity -- to help folks trace their family trees online. Unfortunately, while the Mac software has some nifty features, it's still really s-l-o-o-w and tedious to use and I reckon the speed and accuracy could be increased 3x using a slightly different approach.
I was reasonably okay with 'C' in the old days but never quite managed to get my head around OOP yet (probably due to my age). The app I have in mind consists of an ultra-simple text editor (a la Apple's 15 minute example project) with combined bare-bones image/PDF viewer plus a few extra bells and whistles, and I've already designed the interface -- about as far as I can get for now
I see a lot of really knowledgeable folks replying to postings in this discussion group, many with huge numbers of posts under their belts, and I reckon this would be considered a fairly 'trivial' app that could be knocked out during a long coffee break for anyone experienced in Cocoa programming.

Your input will help me get a handle on what eludes me about OOP (I learn really well by example), make life easier for all the Mac volunteer transcribers out there, help MILLIONS of hobbyists trace their ancestors quicker (genealogy is the #1 hobby in the US, and probably also in Australia, UK, and Canada etc.), and help level the playing field with Windows (their transcription solution is currently better than ours).

As long as we are setting the record straight, we should clarify a couple of things. .NET is the "virtual machine" part. You can use C#, J#, VB, or even a slightly twisted variant of C++ with .NET. For those of us who spent a few formative years swearing at MFC, .NET is a significant improvement.
I haven't done much with .NET but I find it to be very much like Cocoa, both in the functionality it provides and the slightly twisted way you have to use it. In Cocoa, you have to use Objective-C or Objective-C++. In .NET, you have to use Microsoft's own slightly strange variants. If you can understand all the brackets, receivers, and messages in Cocoa, you shouldn't have any trouble with all the carets in .NET C++.
You're quite right, it's obviously much less effort to write a program in Cocoa and then re-write it for .NET, than it is it to write it in Java in the first place and run it unchanged on three different platforms. Java is so portable that a Java program written on one platform doesn't even have to be re-compiled to run on another. If you write a program using Cocoa then you limit your market just to Macs - very much a minority platform compared to Windows. Write your program in Java and your market is literally unlimited.
Everything you've said here is correct. Still, every Java program I have ever seen is clearly a "Java" program and usually cannot achieve the same level of integration with the OS that either .NET or Cocoa gives you by default. Java programmers still have to make an effort to ensure that their programs run and run well on platforms they didn't develop it on.

Help On My Project Please

Hello guys
I am into my final year of my IS undergraduate course, and is about to start my final year project. And thats where I need some help cause I am desperately losing ideas.
The project is a 6 month schedule. I dont want to design a site or a traditional web based system cause that wont be challenging enough for the course. The implmentation need not be large, Report and the design is more important, though of course a well working prototype to evaluate the design is a must.
It should be a Web Related Area (A software product) cause thats where my existing knowledge is. I want to use Java, Xml, Web Services(Not used to) etc. etc. with whatever technology neccessary.
I need some info into the latest technologys, being into use. But everything should find the scope of 6 months. So Can you suggest some really good ideas. Please ...
Any Suggestion is greatly appreciated.

A java app on cellphones that calcs golf scores(incl handicaps, skins etc) then automatically updates clubhouse system with some sort of wireless tech(therefore avoiding those stupid 1982 pcs you need to swipe your card on) that updates web based player db that you can check online.
or
some sort of home security system with a remote monitoring system. or monitoring traffic flow at busy intersections.

Help with getting Events into a Project please

I apologize if this topics been covered here or somewhere else on the Apple website(s), but I cannot get my Events into a Project in iMovie. I've read the directions, watched the videos, and looked at these pages but can't seem to find an answer. At this point, all I want to do is download video from my camcorder to save it and edit later (when I have more time). I managed to download video from several events from the flash drive on my Canon Vixia HF11 and it appears in the Events library. I can play it and select clips without difficulty. I tried to select all the Events (all together and separately) to move to a project (after opening a new project), but the cursor bounces back. It will allow me to select clips but this is very cumbersome and time consuming and I don't want to edit now - I want to save all the video. The "add to project" button doesn't work. Am I missing something? There must be some way to select ALL the video in all the Events I've downloaded to put into one project. BTW, we're only talking about 40 minutes of video. If possible, please post screen shots so that I can see exactly what to do. Any help is much appreciated.

no, not avail.
and 'off'-concept of that tiny edit-app:
when you import, you create a Library of all footage.
iM will split these videos (by date) into seperate 'Folders' = Events.
the idea of iM is, to offer you this Library to create a SELECTION of it for any given Project. there are very rare cases I can imagine, you add ALL material of one Event into one Project (in the Event Window hit apple-a), even a Lecture allows to edit here&there.
but adding all material from any imports into one Project? no. no need = no feature.

Can't open Garageband project, please help

I was using a Mac Mini, 10.7.5, and recorded some vocal tracks on Garageband 11. I clicked gospel choir vocal effect at first, and it was fine. When I wanted to try another effect by clicking another one, the application quit. When I tried to open the project again, the initializing window popped up, and a few seconds after, it said something like "Garageband quit unexpectedly, do you want to reopen to restore the windows". When I clicked "reopen", it directed me back to Garageband recent project page without opening the project I was working on. I tried to open other projects I worked on previously, and those could be opened; just not the one that I worked on recently.
I didn't back up anything with the Time Machine because I never used it before, didn't know how to use it.
I just saved the project to my USB drive, deleted the one on the Mac Mini, deleted Garageband, updated to iOS10.9 something, reinstalled the newest version of Garageband, tried to open the project from the USB drive, failed again.
When I open the "show package content", some mp3 files of my recorded vocals are there. I don't think all of what I recorded are there, but some.
Please help.

I am finishing up two projects and ready to export them to quicktime and final cut pro will not let me open the projects as it quit on me and these projects will not re-open.

Does it give you any error messages?
Try downloaded FCP RESCUE and then click on TRASH. It will trash your preferences...that usually fixes stuff like this.

The problem is that you have left paper on the floor near the

Please you have to do a little of the work yourself.
First, post a topic that has a title regarding your problem.
That way people who know about that problem will be more likely to
take a look.
Second, don't just say you have a problem and receive and
error. Shay what kind of problem and tell us what the error says.
Third. Most people won't download a file from any random
stranger off the net. So don't expect that is going to explain it.
Fourth, even if the file does explain it, why should a
stranger have to do all the steps that you should have done?
Fifth, do a little work yourself, what have you tried to fix
it?
Sixth. Just because it is urgent to you doesn't mean it is
urgent to everybody else.
So try some of these things and post back.

Problem in jUSB project please help me

I am running this jUSB project code for USB detection on a computer. On
"WindowsXP" it runs fine but on "Windows 2000 Professional" it give me an
exception i.e.
java.io.IOException: USB Host support is unavailable.

at RunUSBControllerTest.main(RunUSBControllerTest.java:24)
Kindly please help me in this regard if any one can solve this exception for me.

This question has asked a lot in different forums. I had same problen, when I compiled RunUSBControllerTest. I got I/O Exception: USB Host support is unavailable. I think I resolve this problem: I think that jusb.dll has compiled in older java version and depends on version. I had Java 1.4.2_05 and it dosen't worked out. I remove it and install java 1.4.1_03. Now the RunUSBControllerTest works fine. I hope this is the answer.

Stuck seriously in the blue print phase of project--- please help

I am Prabhas, sap XI associate consultant in capgemini. I am stuck in the design phase of my project.I am writing this mail to you for helping me in designing the blue print of my scenario. My scenario is like this.
XI will receive a flat file containing stock data and it processes by transforming the structure and then dump the data to R3 system. The output of XI actually invokes some function modules in the target R3 system which in turm executes some BAPIs for committing some transactions.I am clear with the flow and how to realize the process.But the problem is with the function module written to execute some transactions with the help of BAPI.Suppose for some reason one of the transaction commit is failed and the RFC adapter goes in error.Now the question is after correcting the error if we restart the msg in RFC adapter will it start executing the transaction in which it faced the error or the whole RFC will be executed again.
I hope the problem is clear to you.Please help in getting over this. Thank you.

A few quick questions~
1. How are you maing the RFC call? is it a single RFC call that will contain all the records from the file or are you going to make one RFC call for each record in the file?
The user of Recordsets permessage depends on this factor.
If you are going to make a single RFC call, then you cannot use Recordsets per message if there is some dependency in the records.

Well if all records are going to be pushed into a single RFC call, then yes, your RFC code should be such that if there is some error whileprcoessing the call, it should be able to undo the same!
If it is the other option where you are going to make one rfc call per record, the issue will not arise, if there is some error, you can correct the same and restart the mesage from XI .
