Support for Web Designers

Hi, I'm thinking of using BC for a new web development business and want to ensure that the support will be in place to help out. Anyone with wny experience with thisi

Hello!
I see that your message ended rather abruptly, but I can still make out some concerns regarding the Business Catalyst platform and its support for Web Designers. I could point you to these blog articles:
http://www.businesscatalyst.com/bc-blog/revamping-the-business-catalyst-partner-program
http://www.businesscatalyst.com/bc-blog/open-platform-a-new-chapter-for-online-business
http://www.businesscatalyst.com/bc-blog/say-hello-to-the-business-catalyst-open-platform
These articles describe the latest major improvements in our platform. The new set of modern, responsive templates and the open platform are the major highlights. We've essentially offered better tools for developers and designers to deliver a better experience to their customers. In terms of customer support, as a partner, you benefit from:
- a solid community on the forums, where experienced BC users have more than often already replied to any questions you may have about the development process
- the live chat channel, where you can get real-time assistance with issues on any areas of the platform, from platform-login to pushing sites live
- ticketing system so any problems that may occur can be escalated all the way to engineering in order to be addressed
- a new documentation ( docs.businesscatalyst.com )
I meant to touch base on general areas of interest here, I assume your full question may have been more specific, so please feel free to reply, I'll be glad to further advise.
Kind Regards,
Alex

  • Built-in support for web streaming camera?

    Hi,
I have a Sony MiniDV camcorder that supports web streaming.
Is there any built-in software support for web streaming?
If not, could someone please recommend software that will allow me to setup my camera in my house and view the streamed data over the internet?
    Thanks!!
    BT

You can download Quicktime broadcaster for free to do this. See http://www.apple.com/quicktime/broadcaster/
We've used it to stream a live event from an art gallery and then to a Quicktime Streaming Server (available free in the Darwin version) to broadcast to the world.

  • Does Websphere(WAS) V3.5 has support for web services ??

    Hi all,
Please let me know whether Websphere Application Server V3.5 supports Web Services. If any one has used it for V3.5 then please let me know.
    Thanks
    -Satyendra

I suppose not, as out of the box.
If you look into the classpath and the lib directories, there are no traces of any support for Web-Services.
However, you can set up the environment to do so, It seems to be easy to handle.
Cheers, and keep posting your progress.

  • IMac 27" for Web Designers/Developers?

    Hello,
I am considering making a switch from PC to Apple once again. I would like to see some good feedback from web designers/developers on the new 27" iMac. My main concern is screen size and normal font size being too small (after seeing it briefly in the Apple Store).
Can anyone comment or point me the right direction to get some hands on impressions from others in the web industry?
I am also waiting until the 27" issues have been addressed and resolved since Apple is still quiet.
    Thank you

You assume there is a widespread problem that Apple needs to "address and resolve," beyond honoring the one-year warranty as individual cases arise.
Apple sells Macs currently at a rate of over 12 million per year. By now, if a million new iMacs have been sold, even if only 1 in 1000 customers have a hardware problem, that's 1000 customers with hardware problems. I don't know what the actual problem rate is with the new iMacs, but reading a few dozen or even a few hundred problem reports does not indicate there is a general problem. When you sell a lot of something, even if only 0.1% are affected with a problem, it will be large number of customers; conversely, it means the vast majority of customers have no problems because Apple's customer support systems (and Apple Discussions) are not being overwhelmed.
And if you happen to be affected by a hardware problem, that's the purpose of the one-year warranty and optional AppleCare.
Also, while Apple Discussions is a great way for individuals to get their individual questions answered with the help of other users, it is not a verifiable, consistent, nor comprehensive source of quality control data. For every problem report you read, you have no idea if there are 10, 100, or 1000 customer with no problems. People with no problems generally will not bother logging onto Apple Discussions (or any other forum) just to post that they are having no problems.
For your question about web designers and developers, using a new 27" iMac for this purpose would not be any different than using any recent Mac (except maybe having a larger screen to work with). You should look for forums, articles, and reviews related to whatever development tools you happen to use for your work. You should also mention what those tools happen to be here, so that users who also use the same tools can comment. If those current tools happen to be Windows only, you should stil mention what they are.

  • Binary file support for web application in 10.3?

There is such paragraph in Release notes for Flash Player 10.3:
    Binary file support
Add more power to your web application with direct byte access to binary data. Control and access data in new ways, such as adding support for new file and data types or manipulating sound data in real time to create new sound effects.
Does anyone know what do they mean by this exactly?

Real programmers do it in binary!! ;-)

  • Flex/ActionScript3 support for web services using WS-Security

Does Flex/ActionScript3 have support for connecting to a web
service using WS-Security (Policy Creation). I've tried using the
Flex Data Service "Import WSDL" method and it does not allow me to
connect. Is there Flex/AS3 package that can handle creating the
Policy information for a web service that utilizies WS-Security?
    Thanks,
    Tom

Yes and no. The "Import WSDL" doesn't create AS3 classes that
allow header injection of the appropriate WS-Security elements.
I've managed to work around this using straight mx:webservice tags
and AS3. There is an open bug at
    https://bugs.adobe.com/jira/browse/SDK-15398
that I voted on, the more the merrier.
    http://www.jroller.com/wookets/entry/ws_security_in_flex
Has a useful class for creating the soap header elements for a
    username token,
In general though, it's been a challenge to get the simplest
    of WS-Security pieces working.

  • Why is there no WSDL type support for Web Api?

So I am just getting started with .Net WebApi and one thing that I am noticing straight away is that there is no Contract defining how the Api looks and should be consumed (Request/Responses from each Action), this is usually in the form of a WSDL for WCF/Soap.
It seems to me like this is something that would be very valuable and make life a lot easier for consumers of your Api.
Is there a reason there isn't one? Is there a programming paradime or principle that I am unaware of? Is there a way I could create one?

    SOAP, REST AND PEOPLE'S CREATIVITY
SOAP needs a description document like WSDL because each resource can be consumed with different messages, there are no definition on the protocol about constraints to the possible names/messages that you can manipulate a resource.
For example, in SOAP your web service that allow clients manipulate an user can expose the operation that create an user in many different messages, like:
    addUser
    createUser
    insertUser
Of course, these are just few sample messages, because I've see a lot of funny web services method names. There are really creative people out there.
In other hand, if you are exposing your underlying system using web api that really respect the REST principles, the client just need to know that you have a resource named Users, because there is 99% of chance that you can create an user in this way
    POST /Users
And this occurs for each operation you want to expose using SOAP or a web api REST.
Despite being SOAP a protocol, which restricts what you can or can not do, and be REST a style architecture, which leaves many open points of how to do things. There are efforts to define conventions of how to expose and consume REST web apis.
    DESCRIBING A WEB API REST
In the field of how to describe a web api REST I can cite
Swagger. It is not a attempt to create a WSDL like to web api REST, but it is a good attempt to create an open standard for describing web apis REST.
Swagger is a specification and complete framework implementation for describing, producing, consuming, and visualizing RESTful web services.
I use Swagger a lot and really love it, mainly because
Swagger UI that allow you generate a nice live console and documentation for your web api.
There are many implementations of Swagger for most of languages: C#, Java, Python, Ruby, etc.
If you are using ASP .NET Web API, there a some projects to auto generate the Swagger specification, like
    Swagger.NET
GENERATING CLIENTS TO A WEB API REST
Because the constraints of REST, like the limited set of verbs (GET, POST, PUT, DELETE, etc) is not so difficuty to generate a client library to a web api REST.
    Projects like
WebApiProxy can easily generate clients do C# and Javascript.
    CONVENTIONS FOR WEB API REST
To keep our lifes as developers easier is good define some conventions of how our web api REST will behave, the best effort I know in this field is the very good
Apigee - Web Api Design ebook. The e-book is not an attempt to create a bible or a mantra about how to design your api, but rather a collection of conventions observed in large web REST apis, like Twitter, Facebook, Linkedin, Google, etc.

  • Scp/ssh support for web upload

I prefer not to pass my credentials in the clear. Please offer a way to support other well-known protocols like scp in the web upload module.

I completely agree -- there are excellent low level API's available for support *much* *safer* and *better* data transfer options than just FTP - I personally want sftp/scp. WebDAV (over SSL in particular) is the other no-brainer as far as I'm concerned.
Yes, you can save the gallery to your local disk, go out and upload, but for a tool that's all about work-flow, this seems really annoying, and given that making a dialog box that allows you to set what protocol and the various options that protocol may require is now a standard practice, it's not like it smacks of the Dreaded Creeping Featurism, IMHO.

  • What kind of Cellphone supports for Web Services in Java Application?

I have developed a software in J2ME integrated with Web Services!
I am wondering what kind of Cellphone (Nokia, Samsung, ...) supported Web Services now?
    Any help is appreciate!

    Hi Shannon,
The type of proxy I'm familiar with is at the http connection level and
associated with the networking properties in the JDK, See:

Your question may be related to JWS proxies, See:

You may want to ask this question in the workshop newsgroup.

    Hi, all;
I try to find out how the java proxy of web service in weblogic server 8.1
works. Suppose I use the java Proxy of a WebSerice in a client application whatever
whithin or outside the application of the web service, does the proxy actually:
    1. translate my java arguments objects in XML to create SOAP msg,
    2. then send the msg across the network, and web service also response SOAP msg,
    3. then proxy translate it into return value of the method call ?
If that is true , the Java Proxy seems very inefficient, right?
Can any body tell me how the proxy works ?

  • Thai support for web server

Some of the Thai characters are not save correctly and when I try to enter the ?? characters , all of the data after this characters will be truncated. When I tested on IBM websphere test environment which comes together with Visual age 3.5 , it works correctly. I wonder the Netscape web server 4.1 really does not support Thai character ?

Consider using a servlet engine that can interface with said web server or conversely use a servlet container/web server combo like Jetty.

  • About Typekit, Edge Fonts and Google Fonts real utility for Web Designers

    Hello,
Perhaps it´s a simple situation for the majority of CC User but I´m a little bit confused about that. I have a TypeKit plan included in my Creative Cloud subscription. I have then the possibility of use Web Fonts included in Typeset (which is awesome, by the way). My problem comes when I try to use a TypeKit font for a client who does´t want to pay for a TypeKit plan and I can´t use the same font in the trial plan which is a great way of convince the client he needs TypeKit for a better typography access.
    So, my questions are:
There is available TypeKit fonts in Adobe Edge fonts too?
The only fonts available in Edge Fonts are Google Fonts?
How can I know if a specific TypeKit font is available in TypeKit Trial Plan too without searching the entire catalog filtered by Trial Library or in Adobe Edge?
Do you recommend to me a workflow in which I can use TypeKit fonts for clients avoiding the need to pay the client for that font? (it´s hard to convince him, not to use free alternatives like Google Fonts or Adobe Edge Fonts)
    Thanks in advance.

I haven’t tried it so this may be a shot in the dark but you might be able to hack into the CSS and use @font-face to call a local font.
Check the license of the font to be sure it allows this.

  • Accessibility for web designers

The main problem I have with the new CS4 is Accessibility.
Whilst we have to work for others and make sure everything is fine
for them - what about us??
I have RSI and believed that the new CS4 would help by being
cleverer than any other release, hence fewer mouse clicks etc - how
wrong could I be! It appears that I am now clicking more than three
times the amount I was on DW8.
    Anyone else feel the same?
    Rob

Can you offer any specific examples of what's changed between
    DW8 and CS3
    for you?

  • Web Service Support for WebLogic

Add Support for Web Services to WebLogic using IONA's XMLBus
For anyone interested in Web services, IONA has just released a free
technology preview of iPortal XMLBus, with support for BEA WebLogic 6.0
patch 1. You can download it today from www.xmlbus.com, a Web site entirely
    dedicated to Web services.
The iPortal XMLBus Technology Preview enables Java Developers to turn
existing EJBs and Java Applications into Web services. XMLBus is 100% pure
Java and installs seamlessly on top of the
WebLogic. It implements the W3C v1.1 draft specifications of SOAP and WSDL.
SOAP is the communication protocol used by Web services to traverse over
HTTP, SNMP, and FTP. WSDL has become the standard for describing Web service
    interfaces in XML.
XMLBus automates the process of turning Java classes into Web services,
ensuring that Java developers do not need to learn a whole new programming
language to turn existing applications into Web services.
Wizards guide the developer through the identification of interfaces and
methods the developer wants to become a Web service. The wizard deploys a
SOAP Listener and a WSDL interface for that Java Class, as well as Java
client proxy applications. The client proxy can easily be incorporated into
any Java Application to invoke the corresponding methods described in the
    WSDL.
