Supressing characteristic values in query

Hi,
I have 10 records in my infoprovider.Each record contains data for 5 fields. Is it possible to suppress a particular field(i dont mean data here. It is field+data) for 5 records and show the field and its values for the remaining 5 records.

Hi,
for this you'll need two structures in your query (keyfigure and characteristcs).
The you can use cell-references in the query-designer.
Suppress the crossing points for the cells you dont want to show.
else:
If we're talking about key-figure-values, create a formular, where you add KYF1 and KYF2 and only display the formular.

Dump when trying to display characteristic values in QUERY DESIGNER

Life seems to become a struggle with 7.0 for me :-(.
My current problem:
If I try to display characteristic values in Query Designer (left section of screnn, wthin dimensions) system dumps frequently.
It's that kind of dump, that doen't help really (to my oponion)_
What happened?
    The exception 'CX_RSR_X_MESSAGE' was raised, but it was not caught anywhere
     along
    the call hierarchy.
    Since exceptions represent error situations and this error was not
    adequately responded to, the running ABAP program
     'CL_RSBOLAP_BICS_SERVICES======CP' has to be
    terminated.
How to correct the error
    If the error occures in a non-modified SAP program, you may be able to
    find an interim solution in an SAP Note.
    If you have access to SAP Notes, carry out a search with the following
    keywords:
    "UNCAUGHT_EXCEPTION" "CX_RSR_X_MESSAGE"
    "CL_RSBOLAP_BICS_SERVICES======CP" or "CL_RSBOLAP_BICS_SERVICES======CM003"
    "HANDLE_UNCAUGHT_EXCEPTION"

All Dates displayed for "Characteristic Values" in Query Designer

Hello Experts,
We are on BI 7.0, level 13. I am having an issue within the Query Designer with regards to dates. I have a write-optimized DSO that contains 3 date fields (for example, ZDATE1, ZDATE2, and ZDATE3). Each date InfoObject is of type DATS so the system automatically creates it with reference to 0DATE.
When I create a query in the Query Designer, on the left hand side, I expand the "Characteristic Values" node under each date field. The Query Designer shows the same list of values for each of the 3 dates even though they are not valid values posted in the DSO for those fields.
For example, ZDATE1 only has 1 value posted in the DSO (01/01/2005).
ZDATE2 only has 1 value posted in the DSO (01/01/2006).
ZDATE3 only has 1 value posted in the DSO (01/01/2007).
Bute when I expand the "Characteristic Values" node in the Query Designer, I see ALL THREE values under each date field. I would expect to only see the 1 value posted for the InfoObject in the DSO. Also note that each InfoObject is defined to show "Only posted values in InfoProvider".
It appears that Query Designer will show all values for the reference InfoObject 0DATE instead of the ones posted to the actual InfoObject in the DSO. If I delete the data in the DSO, the Characteristic Values list still remains because they exist in 0DATE. Anyone encounter this before? How can I get the Characteristic Values list to only show posted values for that InfObject?

Thanks for the response. I went into the DSO and right clicked on each of the Date fields. I looked at the Provider-specific properties and there is the option for "Query Exec.FilterVal" which only restricts what values appear when restricting during execution, not during query creation.
Is there someplace else I should look or someplace else I can make change to only display posted dates when creating a query? Thanks!

Hide a row or column for characteristic value # in Query Designer

Hi gurus,
I would if we could hide a result row / column if one of the characteristic value is #. The requirement is actually to remove the meaningless row / column from the whole result set. For example, I have a char Material Group in the column. Since not every Material is assigned to a Material Group, I will get the following layout:
Material_Group A
Material_Group B
Material_Group C
Is it possible to define in query designer so that the column with # will automatically not be displayed?

I guess we have the same users..
But there is one thing that is going to make a non sense on the report: if you do not display the "#" for material group, then the total of your query by material group will not be the summation of what is displayed on the screen...and if the user explort the information in Excel (pretty sure they will do so), you will have some calls that your query does not balance....
Based on that assumption, tell the users to assign a material group to the materials, so that this unassigned column disappears. You could even give them a control report listing all the parts that do not have a material group
If this is a standard business rule not to have a material group for all parts, then, what you could do is to change the text for empty rows for Material group, then the "#" will disappear and wil be under the text description you defined.
But keep in mind that your data is made of materials which do not have a material group in their definition, noraml or not ?

Supress warning message in Query Analyzer after free characteristic removed

Hi
I have a query and several workbooks looking to the same query.
When I remove a free characteristic from the query (not the cube) I am presented with a warning message when opening Analyzer indicating that the removed field is no longer available on the report.
Is there any way to supress these warning messages? I am aware of the option Settings > Supress warnings from server but I would not want to ask every people to do this in the company. Is there a way I can supress the warning from the query?
We are running 3.x for this particular query and report.

Value for a characteristic changed with an other value in Query Design

I want to change the value for a characteristic (Type) in Query Design (not the description, the value).
In my cube I have these values:
Customer *** Type
22222********SmallCorp
22223********SmallCorp
22224********MedCorp
The report should like:
Customer *** Type
22222********LEGALENTITIES
22223********LEGALENTITIES
22224********LEGALENTITIES
Or only the "SmallCorp" value should be changed in LEGALENTITIES.
How to do that?

You can write an exit to replace Type SmallCorp to LEGALENTITIES.
But this will reflect in other queries too....
Or If change in modelling is still an option, you can add one more Type 2 in the cube and update in the transformation with Constant = LEGALENTITIES. Use the Type 2 in the queries.

Convert characteristic values in key figures in a query

Hello all,
i have a query which provides some key figures and also some probabilties (defined as characteristics). I want to multiplicate the probabilities with the key figures and therefore I need to convert the characteristic values for the different probabilities in key figures.
What is the best wys to do this.
Any help would be great.

Stefan,
You need to create a formula variable of your characteristic.
In the Create Formula screen right mouse click on Formula Variable and go through the create process.
The characteristic needs to stay in your query (you can change it's display to No Display) to pass it's value to the formula.
Once you have done this you can use the formula Variable in any other formula.

Free Characteristic, range value, filtering query for iveiw in WAD

Using the web application designer I am adding a query (BW 3.5) to a sales portal (EP 6.0) of all projected wins (custom characteristic on opp header). Sales has requested I provide in by mth and by qtr. I created value ranges in my projected win characteristic in the query of 4/1-4/30,5/1-5/31 etc. and have attempted to use the
Filter
Navigation block
and
Drop down and radio were I get every date of the month and not just the ranges I created.
Can I do this through a query and and the WAD or do I have to do some custom work.

the feature you are requesting is called "Master Data Planning". Unfortunately it is not supported by SAP. Please use the term "master data planning " to search this forum and you will find some threads about this issue.

When we load transaction data it chacks characteristic values then SIDs then DIM IDs then insert DIM IDs into fact table but when we run the query how it checks and gets the characteristic values and attributes.

Just the opposite way you have described. It gets from the corresponding masterdata tables, with the connected SID.

Query on classification material characteristic values update/insert

Hi,
I have a requirement to change classification characteristic values of a material via Txn MM02.
The function modules tried are as follows which did not serve the purpose:
1.UPDATE_MATERIAL_CLASSIFICATION
2.CLVF_VB_INSERT_CLASSIFICATION
3.CLVF_INSERT_AUSP
4.CLVF_UPDATE_AUSP
The characteristic values are not getting updated in the table AUSP(Where the values must have been updated) . So the updating of material classification characteristic values via txn MM02 is failing.
Please can anybody help on any function modules or alternate solutions that will help to update the classification char. values of the materials.
Also,for info please let know of the tables that maybe related for this updation other than AUSP.
Any input at the earliest would be of great help.

There are quite a few standard BAPI function modules that can be used exactly for this. Look into the BAPI transaction under the CROSS APPLICATION SYSTEM --> CLASSIFICATION .

BAPI_OBJCL_CREATE
BAPI_OBJCL_DELETE
BAPI_OBJCL_GETCLASSES
BAPI_OBJCL_GETDETAIL
These can be used to modify / create any classification data for the materials.

BEx QUERY - pre filter characteristic values (material group)

hi gurus
i have a bex query where the user is asked to enter a material group value, this query is for planning some kind of material groups, so i need to show in the match code for material group (variable screen) just the material groups related to this query.
For example, material group 0matl_group in rsdmd looks like this:
M1
M2
M3
M4
M5
M6
M100
I just wanna show in variable screen the first five material groups so the user can select one of them, i dont wanna show all the 100 material groups

I am not sure but You can try writing a customer exit code .
create a interval variable of type customer exit .
In the customer exit code write the code :
In I_step = 1
read the material group master data table in your case or the source from which you get the material group .
write a code to read the first five records .
In the low value read the first record.
and in high value read the fifth record .
your user should get only the first five materials to input in this case .

Characteristic issue in Query

Hi:
I have a question regarding a query. I have a multicube created from the Sales Overview cube and a cube which holds plan data.
I have a a charactrisitcs 0CUST_SALES__0CUST_GROUP (master data) in Identification checked for the both cubes.
When I run a query created on this cube for sales wty, The value shows up correctly. But when I drill down by 0CUST_SALES__0CUST_GROUP, the characteristic value is Not assigned.
I checked 0CUST_SALES and I have the value for the field 0CUST_SALES__0CUST_GROUP. Why system shows #- not assigned when I drill down by this particular characteristic?

Do you have any other characteristic in the query rows , or any other characteristic restricted in the query that is from only one basic Cube?
Also check by running reports if you have data in Basic cubes by 0CUST_SALES__0CUST_GROUP .

How to use a characteristic value variable in a formula?

Hi all,
I have created a characteristic value variable (manual input) for 0CALDAY in a query to get the Start & End date. There is requirement in the report to display a KF showing the duration between Start & End Date.
I have tried to create a Formula Variable with Replacement Path, Ref Char 0CALDAY. In the Replacement Rule, there is an option to Replace Variable With variable. However, I wasn't able to locate the variable I have created for user input.
Any idea how to achieve this?

if you have the start and end dates as user entry then follow this
1) create a formula variable with reference char as start date of the type customer exit
2) create another formula with end date as reference char of type customer exit
3) in the cmod write the code your logic should be in such a way the the value at the user entry should be passed on to this formula variable the same for end date code
4) create a formula with ( start date formula variable - end date formula variable)
you can use this code

Characteristic values as hyperlinks in a web report

Hi All
I have a web report with only one characteristic and some key figures. And the number of values for that characteristics are 5 and they are always fixed (structure). In my report I need to make each of that characteristic value a hyper link. I have 5 separate reports which should be linked to these 5 characteristic values.
I think this can be achieved by using a table interface. If yes, could any one please provide me with the code for the method CHARACTERISTIC_CELL in the ABAP class?
Or, is there any other better solution?

Regarding modifying the existing methods, in the 'Methods' tab select a method you want to redefine and click on the 'Redefine' button. And then double click on the method name, it takes you to the editor screen where you write your code.

Variable reading other's characteristic value.

Hi gurus,
do you know, how can I make a variable (characteristic value variable) that reads other characteristic's value?
i.e. I have 0CALMONTH in columns and a structure with 3 restricted key figures - I need to show KF value for 1st, 15th and last day of 0CALMONTH.

Hi Dorota,
What I have got from your query is.
Take an input for 0CALMONTH from user.
And then display Key figures restricted by 1st Day of the month entered by user, 15th daysand then last day of the month.
If this is what your requirement is then you can achieve it by restricting the three key figures with variable.
The variable should be defined with processing type as Customer Exit.
