SWC vs Decompilers.

Hi! I'm doing an interface library (set of classes with functions) and am creating a SWC in order to get a such "Library" (as a component that other programmer may include for using its functions).
So, if you create a SWF  on which you've used my functions (they were in my SWC that you've imported), then this SWF will contain all classes used. Thus, if someone decompiles this SWF, he/she'll get all my source code with my classes, my comments...everything!
Are there ways for encrypting or hiding my library? I've read something about obfuscating, but I don't know if this sort of techniques would be the best ones...
Thanks and regards!

hehe, good advice, thanks.
Although it is clear that I cannot hide SWC totally. I saw something about obfuscation techniques and, despite there is a reverse way, what if I use them? I mean, if I obfuscate my SWC, would it be possible to use it? or I'd have to change into normal SWC again before using it?
It'd be great if I could give a functional SWC (just with classes) that it was unreadable when someone tried to decompile the SWF which wrap it.
thanks everyone.

  • How do I use a Flex swc in Flash CS3?

My engineering team has used Flex to create a nice little swc
for me to use inside of Flash CS3, but now I'm having trouble
finding any documentation on how to actually import it. Placing it
in the Components folder doesn't work, as it's not recognized by
the Components window (either as an AS2 or AS3 swc). Is it even
possible to use swcs from Flex in Flash? Thank you very much for
    the help.

  • The MessagePerformanceUtils:totalTime issue in Flex 4 (rpc.swc) using LCDS 3.1 running under JDK1.6

We are facing an issue while using LCDS 3.1 running under JDK1.6 in Sun Solaris v5.10 OS & Adobe Flex 4.
    Scenario :-
    ===================================
As part of our Flex-based client-server application (with Java backend) we have a performance report generation module. Following flex framework class is used to calculate the performance of various layer of a typical server-based request-response cycle.
; (available in rpc.swc library file)
(for example : server time, cairngorm time, UI screen rendering time, UI event generation time etc).
The totalTime was working properly before upgrading the rpc.swc to Flex 4 ; However it broke after migrating to Flex SDK 4; The totalTime is now coming as negative junk value.
As we understand that the above Flex framework class method works in conjunction with LCDS running at server side on JDK.
We suspect that the new rpc.swc taken from Flex SDK 4 is causing the issue !
    System information :
    Web Server : Weblogic 11G
Operating System : Sun Solaris v5.10 OS running on Sparc hardware.
Flex : Adobe Flex sdk 4.0
Flash player : Adobe Flash Player 10
    Browser : Internet Explorer 8
    LCDS : 3.1
    JDK : JDK 1.6.0_14
    ===================================
Has anyone faced similar problem before ? Any help or direction would be highly appreciated.
    Thanks in advance,
    Rabi

Nothing has changed in the Flex SDK sources for this class since sometime around 2008. Are you running against the same LCDS server as you were before you updated to Flex 4?  This certainly seems strange (and bad).  Do you see the same behavior with Flex 4.5?  What was the version of Flex you were using before switching to Flex 4.0?
If you can provide the additional information, we will look in to this.  A reproducable case that was a simple mxml application along with a simple destination config would help us narrow the problem.
    Sorry for the problems!

  • Swc problem with flex from my custom fla

I have an fla which has several library items with a class linkage to a GenericButton.as file. I am exporting this fla as an swc file, and linking that swc into flex.
My problem is that when flex builds the code for GenericButton it gets undefined property for anything it tries to reference that is part of the library item.
    Example:
GenericButton.as does libLabel.text = "something"; where libLabel is a textfield, instantiated in the library clip which is bound to GenericButton in it's class linkage.
The field exists in the clip, but when I compile in Flex with the swc in there, it cant find it. It says libLabel doesnt exist, undefined property.
What am I missing here? I want to allow the fla author to bind some of his items to low-level component classes like that, and it's his job to ensure that all the necessary items are part of it. So if he makes a new button, he must just ensure he has a libLabel textfield somewhere in the clip.
Why cant flex see that the items it's trying to compile have a libLabel in there? Is there a work around?

Thx for the reply Greg, but no, that's not the problem.  If you re-read my post you'll probably see my problem is a little more involved than that.
I have symbols exported for actionscript and I can instantiate them in Flex, that's not a problem.  The problem is symbols that are exported for actionscript and bound to a base class that contains custom code.  That custom code, when it uses it to type-check in flex builder (during the swc link stage), causes undefined properties.
For some reason Flex is not seeing that the exported library item has the things the .as file is looking for.
    Does that make sense?
I could probalby put together a simple example project but I'd have to find somewhere to upload it so that others could see.
This problem is hard to describe, you have to read what I'm saying very carefully.

  • Is there a limit to the amount of SWCS I can use in my Flash Builder app?

I have 3 swc folders in my flash builder project that includes about 40 swcs total. Each swc is a simple flash animation with a size of about 500 kb each. When I include and complile about 20 of them in my project, things work fine.
When I try to include all my swcs, the app compiles, but when i make changes in my code and save those changes, each time the compile becomes slower and eventually my flash builder freezes at about 52%, gives me a "java heap error" message, and then crashes. After restarting FB, when I take out most of the swcs from the build, FB acts normal again. Attached is a screen shot of my error.
Is there a limit in size or amount of swcs that I can use in my FB application?

There are no limits. But there is a known memory leak (which is being fixed for a later release).
Would it be possible to attach a sample SWC so that we can confirm whether this is a known leak or not? I'll take care of filing this in bugs.adobe.com.
Meanwhile, in your Flash Builder installation directory, you can edit FlashBuilder.ini to bump up max heap size by editing:
    -Xmx512m
    to
    -Xmx800m

  • Bug with swc folders and library projects?

Hi guys, hope someone can help here. We are just in the
process of starting a fairly large flex project and we were trying
to work out a solution so that I as a designer can view and edit
custom components with visual styles applied.
Now I know that you aren't meant to add a style tag into the
component but it was working for me and I could at least preview
    the styles in 'design mode'.
The problem arises though when you have a large project with
shared assets across projects. I had 3 projects set up in my
    workspace:
Project 1: Library project with css files, swc and graphics
Project 2: Library project with components for Project 3
    Application
    Project 3: Application project
What I did was to add a external source folder to Project 2
& 3 both of which was Project 1. So far so good, the css loaded
into my application from Project 1 and I could view my styles in my
    custom componants in Project 2
But, I needed to add swc files for custom buttons etc in my
application. So, I thought I would just add an swc folder source to
my build path in both my Project 2 & 3 which referenced an swc
folder in Project 1. Well, it did work and I could view everything
fine but (and here is the main problem) this corrupts the
workspace. Once Flex has closed and tries to reopen my workspace it
hangs, same if I change workspace in Flex from another workspace to
    this one.
Can anyone help? Is this a flex bug?
    TIA
    Steve

  • Flex Builder 3 Error: Unable to load SWC

    Hi,
I am trying to use the YahooMaps component (YahooMaps.swc) in
my application. I have included it in the build path of my
    application.
    Steps followed:
    1. Right-click on the project and choose Properties or open
the Project menu and choose Properties.
    2. In the project properties dialog, choose Flex Build Path.
    3. Select the Library path tab, and press the Add SWC...
    button.
    4. Selected the YahooMap.swc
I still get "Unable to load SWC: YahooMap.swc". It is an AS
3.0 component. Any help will be appreciated.
    Thanks
    Sumit

    Hi Peter,
    Thank you for your reply.
I have followed the documentation on the site you provided.
All I have done so far is:
    1. Create a new flex project in Flex Builder 3
    2. Once the project is created, I try to add the YahooMap.swc
    to my Flex build path.
    3. Once I add the YahooMap.swc, it fails with the error
"Unable to load YahooMap.swc" in Flex Builder 3.
    4. FB3 does not recognize YahooMap when I try to import it in
    AS3.
    import com.yahoo.maps.api.YahooMap;
I am not sure what I am doing wrong. Does it have to do
something with the version Y! has used to build the YahooMap.swc
    and Flex Builder 3?
    Thanks

  • Unable to load swc flexlib.awc

I am trying to import google code swc file into libs folder of my project after going from window>problems I am getting the error as:
    Unable to load swc flexlib.awc
I have changed the file many times and used the clean all projects even that did not come successful.. plz suggest me some technique to deal with it.
this qn is previously discussed on http://groups.google.com/group/flexvizgraphlib/browse_thread/thread/d3a6689ace154640 you can check it out for full problem understanding.

That swc has the localized strings for rpc.
It should be there in C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Flash Builder 4\sdks\4.0.0\frameworks\locale\en_US (or whatever locale you are using)
One thing to check may be if compiler arguments (specifically -locale) has been added/changed.

  • How to create Theme SWC using Flash Builder 4

I have created a library project in flex which contains spark skin classes for certain controls and a style sheet class. The problem is when I use the SWC generated by thsi project  and import this SWC as Theme and apply it to another test project. the stylings chasnges are not reflected.
IF I use comand line to generate Theme SWC the changes are reflected.
Can any one help me use FLash Builder to create and apply theme SWC.

Connect to PHP in FB4 is used when you have a PHP Class and you want to use that in FB, for example Employee.php and it has a Employee class and various methods in that like create, update, get, delete.
However, if you have exposed your functionality in PHP as a HTTP URL (i.e. it is not a class), then you should be using HTTPService from the data menu.
So if your file is login.php and is accessible as a URL, then using the HTTPService and enter the URL.
    Does this help?

  • Flash Builder 4.7 SWC contents garbled, works in FlashDevelop

I have an all-defaults Action Script - Desktop (Runs in Adobe AIR) project with a single MovieClip on the stage from a SWC file created in newest Flash Pro CC. The MovieClip contains buttons, text, etc, for a menu system.
When I build and run it in my regular IDE (Flash Develop), it looks correct:
    http://snag.gy/7UFFN.jpg
When I build and run in Flash Builder, it is a complete mess:
    http://snag.gy/7Er2e.jpg
The problem is more than visual; DisplayObjects within GfxMainMenu have been randomly swapped with others from the same SWC. When I try to hook up my buttons, I find some of them are actually missing. The weird upside-down ghost logo MovieClip has actually replaced the orange SimpleButton. Needless to say this makes profiling difficult. I've been having this problem with Flash Builder for 3 years across many versions of FB, AIR, Windows, etc etc. Every year I try again with a new approach, hopeful that they've fixed this and I might be able to use FB's excellent profiler for this project. But the basic issue is the same: FB hates the contents of this SWC and I can't find a way to cleanse the demons from it.
    This is the code:
    public function Main():void
      addChild(new GfxMainMenu());
You can download the project and SWC here - I'd love to know if others can at least recreate this:
    https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/11786661/FlashBuilderTest.zip
    Anybody have any clues?

Looking into this further, all the garbled symbols appear to be SimpleButtons. Their up, over, and down states are either blank, or they contain random symbols from elsewhere in the file. Many of my buttons contain dynamic TextFields with embedded fonts... but I think the problem may occur in a situation as simple as having 1 shape-filled button and 2 exported symbols in the same swc. I've been taking things out of the swc or copying them to a fresh fla all morning trying to track down a specific simple example of the bug.
But it's gotten hard as FB started crashing and nuking my workspace repeatedly. I remember how much I hate this thing now. FlashDevelop has a great editor and debugger, and Scout is a good profiler, but there are things that only FB can do. Specifically, tell me which references are preventing my objects from being garbage collected.

  • SWC PNG's invisible when compression is set to JPEG in Flash Builder 4.7/AIR 3.4

Moved my ActionScript Mobile Project game from Flash Builder 4.6 / AIR 3.2 yesterday to the new release of 4.7 / AIR 3.4. One side effect was that when my PNG's in my assets SWC were set to use JPEG compression instead of PNG, they are invisible at runtime. I haven't found any mention of this when searching so far. I can just use PNG compression for now, but it's nice to have the choice. Anyone else run into this problem?

I haven't seen this come up, however you might want to give our latest AIR 3.5 build a try (12/11/2012 - AIR 3.5 Runtime and SDK Update).  If it still occurs, could you please open a new bug report on this over at bugbase.adobe.com?  Please post back with the URL so that others affected can add their comments and votes.

Somewhere in your pom.xml where you are configuring your build dependancies there will be a line <scope>caching</scope> this line is configuring the build to use a flex runtime shared library. This line is generating the error because caching is not a valid dependancy scope in maven 3 however mojos uses it anyway. There was a defect opened against flexmojos; I've linked it below. Froeder's response to the issue was that it was not fixable, that the warning is expected and that we'll have to live with it for now.
