Swf within Captivate
Hi,
I've got an interactive flash swf file that brings in another swf file (via loadMovie). I would like to bring this into Captivate. I have tried a couple of ways;
1) I dragged it into Captivate - This shows the first flash file but not the one it loads in.
2) I then tried creating a new widget, loading the swf into this and then importing into Captivate, but am left with a blank screen.
Is there another way I can do this or somehow fix it?
Thanks, Andy
Markus,
I use "this." in the Actionscript, but I don't think that's the problem. In the attached file you'll see my problem.

Track completion of embedded swf within captivate project
I have a swf created within captivate 4 which is a traiining simulation. Now I want to embed this simulation on a screen within a new host captivate project and enable the next progress button only when the embedded training simulation is done. What is a good way to do this?
While trying different options, a problem I am running into is the embedded training simulation does not close when all the interactivity is done even if the swf publish options are set to close upon completion. It wants to run for a set time. Any ideas are much appreciated.Hi Gaspar,
Are you using a preloader for the project? If so, the default
one in Captivate waits for 60% of the project to load before
playing. Perhaps try to add the preloader if you aren't using one,
or remove it if you are to see if that makes a difference. In
Captivate 3, you can change this option in Preferences -->
Project --> Start and End --> Loading Screen.
Good luck,
David
Edit: I just tried this too and got the same results when
publishing with all versions of Flash - I was a little surprised to
see it even with Flash 7 exports, because Captivate has let me
embed .swf animations into a single .swf project file using Flash
7. I'm guessing that whatever Flash "engine" Captivate uses to
create its own FMV .swfs must be Flash 8 or 9. That would be
something that would be nice to adjust - especially because of the
lack of the ability to merge .swf files into one file. I guess I'll
send a feature request again... -
Need help unloading an External .swf within another external .swf
My main project loads an external .swf ("room") depending on which button the user clicks. Once that external .swf ("room") is loaded, the viewer chooses a ("demo") .swf to view. I need the "demo" .swf to unload once it is finished playing so that the viewer sees the 1st external .swfs menu again. All .swfs are loaded into an empty loader component. The "demo" swfs were created in captivate thus I don't have access to a timeline for them.
I imported a .swf into captivate that will call a function at the end ie..._root.unloadCaptivate();
and I have the following code in the originally loaded .swf
function unloadCaptivate() {
mcLoader.unloadClip(accountingLoader_mc);
btnEndPeriod_btn.enabled = true;
btnCashCollect_btn.enabled = true;
btnFinancialMGMT_btn.enabled = true;
_root.btnHome_mc._visible = false;
btnAcct_mc._visible = false;
btnPlay._visible = false;
btnPause._visible = false;
That all works fine, but when I load "room" .swfs into the main .swf, the unloadCaptivate(); no longer works...any ideas? Thanks!you should be able to use a loop (like onEnterFrame) to check when your demo swf's _currentframe==_totalframes.

Log-in to You tube within captivate
I have multiple youtube (google) accounts. However, captivate will only accept one when i attempt to publish to You Tube within Captivate. Does anyone know why this would happen? I have tried running captivate as admin and it does not work. I have tried on captivate 7 and 8 on mac and windows and still the same. Is it a You Tube setting? or something from captivate?
Thanks so much for the reply Rick but it is not that I am trying to use multiple accounts- rather I am trying to use one account that just wont be accepted by captivate. It keeps saying my log in credentials are incorrect even though they work fine when I sign directly in to YouTube. I tried a different account to test it and that account worked fine. This is unfortunate as the one that works is my personal account while the one that doesn't is my departments, which is how we deliver content to a lot of the students. So I was wondering if there were certain YouTube settings or accounts that captivate does not like?
Anyway- thanks for replying

Difference between published Captivate 5.5 swf and Captivate 7 swf?
I have a custom SCORM framework built in Flash that handles all of the calls to an LMS, and I simply insert published SWFs from Captivate; everything has been working great for a few years now. The problem I am experiencing now is that content that I have published from Captivate 5.5 shows up just fine, but I upgraded to Captivate 7 and now the SWF files hang during loading, or simply show a black screen. My client uses SumTotal LMS, so I first thought it might be an issue with the LMS, but this is the case in every single LMS I have tested in, so it is definitely some anomaly in the different versions of the published files.
So I guess I am trying to figure out what is different between the two SWFs published in different versions?I don't think so that it is the soulotion for this problem , but you in publish setting/ start and end part (something like this, I don't remember the name completely ) / you can turn off the preloader and fade in at start checkbox and turn on the autoplay.
this can solve the problem temporary till adobe find better way for it . -

Print button - captivate swf within falsh swf
Hi I have a nice problem and I hope someone might have an
answer for me.
I am making an interactive tool book. The design,
backgrounds, button etc are all in flash. I have also done a quiz
in captivate which has a bank of 50 questions but only 20 random
ones appear each time you do the quiz.
As you cannot import a random quiz captivate file into flash
I have made a movie clip titled container that the captivate quiz
swf. file loads into. This all works without a problem. However I
have to make a print button also in flash so the user can print
their result page (the result page is apart of the captivate file).
I have tried every print Action script I can think of;
however, none of them print the results. The page prints with all
the flash created objects (background, buttons etc) but it will not
print the end results page that appears in the movie clip titled:
container, which is located in the middle of the flash stage.
Although if I click print in the flash player file menu it
does......
Can anyone help me or have I confused you all??
From SezMarkus,

Text Missing from SWF in Captivate Slide
I inserted an SWF on my first slide in my
presentation. When I press F3, it works great. When I press F4 to
preview the project, the file plays but the text that is within
this file, is not visible. I have changed backgrounds and
transparencies, and I still have no text. This text is animated and
I don't know if this is part of the problem.Did you create the SWF in Flash and then embed it in
Captivate? If so, did you publish the Flash SWF for the same Flash
Player version as your Captivate movie. For example, if you are
publishing your Captivate movie for FP7, did you also publish your
Flash SWF for FP7 (or earlier)?
If your Flash SWF is for v8, and your Captivate movie is for
v7, then that MIGHT be the problem. -
Hi,
Hopefully someone can help me with this...
I would like to embed a swf (call it swf 1) within my captivate 5.5 project (swf 2), but the catch is that swf 1 is interactive. More specifically there are pause points within the course where learners need to play around with roll-overs or other features before clicking a button to resume. There are a number of swfs going into swf 2, but I thought it best to focus on one for now.
The idea is to publish the main project (swf 2) with a skin and TOC and to be able to control progress all progress, including the progress within swf 1, using the playbar from swf 2 - i.e. if I click on the playbar at a certain point, it should take me to that point even if it is half way through swf 1.
I know how to add an animation to a slide and synchronise it with the project so that I can get that kind of playbar functionality. However, this only works if swf 1 plays from end to end without any interactivity. It doesn't seem to work when swf 1 pauses in the middle (in fact swf 1 barely even starts, before it vanishes again, leaving me watching the background of the slide that it was on). Alternatively, if I don't synchronise it, then the main project will continue on to the next slide regardless of whether swf 2 has finished or not.
So, the question is, how can I insert an interactive swf into the main project, synchronise it and retain the interactivity? Any helpful, not too technical suggestions?
Thanks.You won't be able to achieve this in Captivate without having advanced ActionScript 3 coding skills.
You are better advised to find another way of delivering the effect you want that does NOT involve nested SWFs. -
I am creating a Captivate project, basically, as a shell with
5 slides. Within each slide, I would like to insert swfs that I
have previously published. As a result, each of the 5 slides will
play while the embedded/inserted swf plays within. Have you ever
tried to do this? It seems to work only if I don't include a
skin--but I would like to include a skin on each of the swfs that I
have inserted.
Any ideas? Thank you.quote:

the previously saved Cap3 version of the project. Thanks!
You could copy/paste the slides from CP4 to CP3 - we just did
that with a project. It doesn't retain all the slides settings (I
think the buttons / goto slide etc) needed to be configured again,
but it still beats having to redo the project from scratch in CP3
;o)

It seems to work whenever the embedded swf does not have a
skin... and not work with a skin on it. Have you tried both cases?
Sorry no I haven't tried this with swf's with skin. I just
saw that your original question actually stated that, but I missed
that part. I would imagine that a skin with a second playbar could
mess things up in Captivate.
If you have Flash skills an idea could be to make a simple
"loader shell" which loads the animation you wish to import. That
way the levels of the two playbars would be seperated even more and
perhaps it would work.

Help! I have a swf (flash movie) I am importing into
Captivate 3. The swf (flash movie) is 6 frames. I need the movie to
start on page 2 with the option of selecting the previous and/or
next buttons (also set up within that movie).
Right now if it displays on page 2/6, 3/6, through to 6/6
...I have no way of getting back to the previous pages. Hope this
makes sense. I am just trying everything I can or know to get this
working.
Using ActionScript 2 - Flash 8Hi All - I made the adjustments as noted above. Published at
30fps and Action Script 1.0. Checked transparency. Tried loading
from top and bottom in Flash publish settings. Still no luck.
I tried some other experiments as well. I right clicked on
the animation and tried moving to front / back etc. with no change
in results. But, when I merged the animation with slide background
... i could see an image of my swf in the published and preview
versions. But, it was static - not playing. -
Attempting to run audio playback bar within Captivate
I am attempting to place a swf audio playback bar within a
Captivate slide. It would allow users to play an audio file over
and over within the same slide. The Captivate slide will not have a
playback bar at the bottom of it.
I've attempted to make a swf file with an embedded audio file
and a playback bar using Flash MX. The swf file works just fine
when it is played on its own. The playback controls (play, pause,
rewind) in the bar work just fine, too. However, whenever I attempt
to insert it within the Captivate 3 slide (as a swf animation), I
get an error message that states:
The Adobe Flash file has unresolved dependencies. This might
cause Adobe Captivate to run incorrectly or stop working. Do you
want to continue to add this file?
When I do insert the file, I only get the audio portion of
the file and not the playback bar. Can anyone help me with this?Looks like that's using loadMovie to bring in the audio file
itself.
That works fine? It's just the controls that don't appear?
Paths get all
whacked out when brought into Captivate as there are now more
layers on
top of the SWF you imported. So if the controls are
referenced by
anything that relies on an external path, it could be that
the path is
now wrong. It may be helpful to search the forum for posts
with
something like "_root._root" for examples of how others have
handled this...
...if that's even part of the problem!

Insert and play a .swf (from captivate)
I imported a .swf and it comes in broken into 180 frames -
how can I use this in my main timeline without having to insert 180
frames (or more since I'll need to place other .swfs as well)?
Thought I could copy those frames into a new symbol (movie clip?)
and then place that.... just not sure how to do this correctly. It
doesn't seem to be working.
Also - this .swf is exported from Captivate - any special
file format I should ask for instead?
Thank you!Ok - I did that and am adding new frames to the movie clip
(piecing it back together since it imported as six different .swfs
for some reason), so I think I have to keep extending the timeline
to give it enough time to play (?), but unfortunately it doesn't
play a preview for me inside the .fla - I have to test movie each
time. Does that sound normal/right to you? I guess you always have
to add frames in the main timeline to accomodate however many
frames are within the movie clip? (kind of a pain but if it's the
only way I guess I'll live) :-) -
Animated gif within Captivate movie?
I'm trying to insert an animated gif into a Captivate movie,
but when I do, the gif doesn't animate -- it just shows the first
frame. Is there a trick to getting these animated gifs to actually
play within the Captivate movie, without having to do a "rough
recreate" of the gif in Flash? I've looked around for a setting
within the app to address this, but couldn't find it, and according
to my search of the archives no one else has asked this question.
Thanks in advance!
MaureenHi all
In addition to fellow ACE Steve's good advice, note that you
may notice that the gif looks just dandy if viewed on a web page
before importing. Then after importing it may appear to have had a
triple shot of espresso. This is because the frame rate of
Captivate is normally 30 FPS. It's not uncommon at all to see .GIF
files with a frame rate of 10. The answer? Either slow Captivate
down or speed up the .GIF before bringing it into Captivate.
Cheers... Rick
