Switching providers

My parents are interested in switching from our current cable provider to FiOS .
The primary reason for wanting to switch is due to intermittent service issues with the current provider. The issue is months old with no resolution.
1. They send a tech out
2. Tech goes up the pole to check the outside connections. OK
3. Modem and Router reset
4. Ocasionally tech swaps out provider equipment.
They dont even want to look at the condition of the indoor connections., and TBH that's likely where the issue lies.. I've watched the 2 prep videos that explain how to prepare for the appointment and what happens when the installer comes out. I guess my question is will an installer assess the home install and say whehter or not it's too much work before my parents put any money out for service?
I only ask because this is a really old homeand the coax is jacked to begin with.

Usually Verizon will replace the bad Coax they need use at the time of install. MoCa is sensitive moreso than TV to bad signal.

  • Beware!! Trying to switch providers when using BT ...

I have been using BT Infinity for over 12 months and am currently on a rolling contract.
I decided to switch providers as BT is way too expensive for me these days.
I have now spent 5 weeks, had almost 20 emails from BT claiming to have "resolved the issue" and spent hours on the phone to both BT and O2,  trying to get a contract with another provider....all to no avail. It seems that once you are an Infinity customer it's extremely difficult (if not impossible) to switch to a new provider.
I have had more than one tag removed from my BT line and also had an issue with the router (according to BT) and O2 are saying that it's probably because I'm on fibre optic broadband.
Does Infinity mean that you're stuck with BT for life?
Has anyone got any idea as to what else I can do please?
    Many Thanks

I've not heard of anyone having difficulties migrating but maybe that's just because it's still so rare.
Maybe it's rarity is the problem for BT.
PlusNet have an FTTC service on their website so maybe a switch to that would be less painful? Although when I did a service availability check with them they said I could get ADSL but I"m on the FTTP trial in MK with BT & the bloke over the road is on it with PlusNet so I thought they would"ve known what was available here, perhaps the trial info is not in their checker.

    Some things to try first:
    1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
    2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
    3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at

Note - When troubleshooting wifi connection problems, don't hold your iPad by hand. There have been a few reports that holding the iPad by hand, seems to attenuate the wifi signal.
Some Wi-Fi losses may stem from a problematic interaction between Wi-Fi and cellular data connections. Numerous users have found that turning off Cellular Data in Settings gets their Wi-Fi working again.
You may have many apps open which can possibly cause the slowdown and possibly the loss of wifi. In iOS 4-6 double tap your Home button & at the bottom of the screen you will see the icons of all open apps. Close those you are not using by pressing on an icon until all icons wiggle - then tap the minus sign. For iOS 7 users, there’s an easy way to see which apps are open in order to close them. By double-tapping the home button on your iPhone or iPad, the new multitasking feature in iOS 7 shows full page previews of all your open apps. Simply scroll horizontally to see all your apps, and close the apps with a simple flick towards the top of the screen.

  • Can i switch providers if I am staying in another country?

I'm going to be in Austrlia for 4 months. Anyone know if can switch providers for my iphone while I'm there? I'm certainly not going to pay international rates for that long.

Doubtful with your iPhone, but I would contact at&t or Apple to find out if they would agree to unlocking your iPhone for the 4 months while you are there. Since you won't be canceling your contract with at&t and you will be returning, they may agree to do this on a short term basis with your iPhone being re-carrier locked with at&t when you return.
I don't think this is possible, but there is only one way to find out, and the worse thing they can say is no. If so, you can purchase an inexpensive unlocked phone when you arrive there, and get a pre-paid SIM card from a local provider. You can use your iPhone to connect to the internet via an available wi-fi network while there.

  • I just switch providers and I lost all of my old e-mails?

I just switch providers and I lost all of my old e-mails?

Did you have the account set up as IMAP? That would mean that all messages are kept on the server and, if you cancelled, they would be gone unless you downloaded/saved them elsewhere.

  • IPhone contract expired, want to switch providers, now what??

My 1st generation iPhone contract has expired. What process do I take in order to change providers, yet maintain the ability to upgrade software, without unlocking, jailbrakeing the iPhone?

It isn't possible for your two year contract with AT&T for the first generation iPhone to have expired. The first generation iPhone was released on 6/29/07. If you purchased your first generation iPhone on the release date, your two year contract won't expire until 6/29 this year.
Doubtful that AT&T will unlock your iPhone regardless, but if they do, the only other GSM network provider in the U.S. that comes anywhere close to AT&T in terms of the number of subscribers and national coverage is T-Mobile.

  • Wanting to switch providers

  • Incompetent and Liars thinking of switching providers

I have been a Verizon Wireless customer for almost 20 years.  I have had as many as five lines that I have paid for over the years.   At the current time I am paying for 3 lines.  For those 20 years I have had insurance on my lines the whole time.  My husband recently dropped and broke his I Phone, smashing the face.  When he went into the Verizon store to inquire about our insurance on this phone he was told we have $165 deductible.  (First of all the phone was free with his upgrade.)  Upon further speaking with the customer service rep, he was informed that they had a promotion right now that would not require him to use an upgrade, nor would he have to sign a new contract or anything all he had to do was pay $60 and he could get a new phone and that would be better than using the insurance.  First of all $165 deductible is very expensive whatever happened to the $50 I was quoted when I purchased it?  He made an appointment to come back the very next day so I could go with him because I was due for an upgrade so we could both get new phones at the same time.  HOWEVER when we went in the next day and spoke with the very same person EVERYTHING had changed, this was no longer the case, he would need to use my upgrade or pay $165 deductible or full price for the phone.  I asked what they could do to help us and after he went in the back and talked to a manager (very much like going to a car dealership) I was told there was nothing they could do after 20 years of being a Verizon customer.  I walked across the hall to Sprint and got a quote that beat Verizon.  I will be paying the extra money to cancel my lines and going with Sprint were I was treated with respect and dignity.

I am going to be very blunt about this response so I apologize in advance if it upsets you.
With the information you gave me, I assume you've had the insurance for the 20 years, and they will never guarantee the deductible to be the same. My car insurance deductible is more now than it was 5 years ago, that's just the way it is.
When they told him that, they meant he could use your upgrade so he wouldn't have to sign a new 2 year. Therefore you both would not qualify for a new phone.
20 years of being a customer does not mean a thing, Do you feel like you deserve special treatment? If that's the case then I am going to call Cheerios for free boxes of cereal since I've been buying their cereal for the past 10+ years.
I don't understand how they didn't treat you with dignity or respect. Apparently they were being disrespectful by not giving you an option that was not available?
Good Luck with Sprint I don't know about coverage in your area but where I am, I would be better off with a Little Tikes plastic play phone

  • I need my prepaid account number to switch providers?

I love verizon, but can't afford it atm. I am trying to port my number with a different provider, but I need my account number, which I seem to can't find. I am using the 45$ prepaid services currently.

  • Bt do something or i Switch providers FOR GOOD

Hello, I have been with bt for well over a year now, and the connection has been bearable... 2mb upload at the best of times but i deal with it, aslong as i can watch youtube videos with out them buffering i am happy ... But for the past few days i have been getting connection speeds like http://speedtest.net/result/1599783268.png although it has gotten slightly better increasing to 0.13 mb/s But This is totally unaccpetable. Even loading webpages, like facebook and twitter is a pain, Watching youtube videos is almost out of the question.
There are people with speed of 5 Mb/s 5 houses away from me, and they are also with bt, and someone else less than 150 meters away from my house with upwards of 7 mb/s.
And before you ask i have unlimited internet.
So bt, What are you going to do about it?

  • Switching phones and providers

I currently have an iPhone 4S through Puppy Wireless. I bought an Xperia Z1 Compact. I want to switch my number both to the Xperia from the iPhone, and to AT&T from Puppy Wireless. Since Puppy Wireless goes through Verizon and the Xperia is an international phone, I can't switch the number before switching providers. What would be the best way to accomplish what I need?

The Xperia is missing band 17 for LTE.
To switch carriers just take the Xperia to an ATT corporate store and have them port your number in and uses the Xperia phone. Very simple.

  • Apple Switching To Verizon?

Just a simple question indeed, but i need proof that iPhone is switching to VZW... I had heard from a current iPhone User and they said that they are going to verizon... Me, being a Apple Enthusiast and i happen to have everything Apple, Except My phone. Which is A Verizon Lg Dare. Closest thing to the iPhone at the time i got it... but then i realized nothing compares to the iPhone and am wondering when they're going to switch since i know my parents wouldnt ever switch providers cause they LOVE Verizon.

Apple has not made any announcement regarding offering an iPhone that is compatible with Verizon's CDMA network. Apple's exclusive with AT&T for the iPhone expires sometime in 2010, which may be extended again.
Verizon is in the process of switching from a CDMA network to an LTE network, and AT&T is in the process of doing the same. This means Verizon and AT&T will have the same type of network at some point. Verizon probably won't have their LTE network in place on a wide scale until 2011 or so. IMO, it doesn't make much sense for Apple to produce a CDMA network compatible iPhone for Verizon which will be good for a year or so since Verizon is switching from CDMA to LTE.

  • Goodbye Verizon of 10+ years! (switch if you can!)

Verizon Wireless in my opinion has always been the best carrier in all aspects. Their plans have always been a little pricier however I've never had reception problems and customer service has always been amazing. Times have obviously changed! I'm not sure where these "customer service reps" or their supervisors got their training or received any training at all. In a shorter summary here is what happened. My wife and I knew we were going to go over our minutes in the middle of the month, we were advised to upgrade our plan online so we would only have had to pay the difference between the 2 plans which was about 20 dollars for a grand total of about $140. We switched plans online and later received our bill which was around $380.00! I immediately called customer service and they told me I didn't select the right plan online however they did see when I switched and it was before I went over on minutes. The rep then told me there is nothing she could do. I wanted to speak to her manager and she said for what reason? I couldn't believe this but I hung up and called back to speak to another rep and asked for his supervisor and he said there has to be a good enough reason for him to talk to me! At this point I'm thinking to myself holy S***! I've been paying these clowns 100+ dollars a month for over 10 years and this is the treatment I get?! Eventually I emailed corporate, the regional president Greg Haller which surprise- surprise was unable to call or email me back and got another supervisor to call me to resolve my issue. She basically told me that she would pay 50% of the overage charge only and it's my fault I selected the wrong option online and I should have picked the rollback plan option, the 3rd option. I was very confused about that, so I went online with her on the phone and acted like I was going to switch my account again to see what other options there were. There are only 2! The one I picked was Apply these changes as of today and the other was Apply these changes on your next billing cycle. The supervisor then told me that there should be another one and she didn't believe me there wasn't another option and said well you should have called in and we could have done it for you. I offered to email over a 'print screen shot' of what it says and I also asked how should have I known to call if it doesn't say anything and why would I have switched my plan "as of today" on your website if I knew I was about to go over my minutes! makes no sense! She said she would pay 50% off the overage fee only. I advised her that she was going to lose a customer of over 10 years if the fee wasn't completely removed. She said sorry to hear you want to switch providers but just so you know there is a $168 early termination fee!---- I couldn't believe it!!!---, I hope Verizon wireless goes down-hill from here, I'm selling the little stock I do own of theirs and will never again recommend these guys to anyone. My entire family has service with these guys and I will be working hard to get them to cancel. From a business perspective it's unheard of to lose a customer over $200 (especially since it's not my fault) when I'm paying them over $1500 a year plus phones and accessories for the rest of my life! Nice job on that decision!! My bill is paid and when September rolls around ADIOS!!

    Hi,
Check out the discussion 'Goodbye Verizon of 10+ years! (switch if you can!)' in Verizon Wireless Community.
I have had almost identical, dare I say worse customer service with a similar incident beginning back in December and continuing for months after.  There have been so many conversations with customer service and promises that supervisors would return calls and didn't it is beyond me.  I was calling regarding a signal issue back in December and no one (after 12 years of never having major overages on my account) bothered to tell me during my several phone calls about a lack of signal and my $200 signall extender not working that I was incurring overages on my account until (ironically) the fourth phone call in which these overages were brought to my attention at a time it was "too late" to retro-act the plan.  I had opted for the unlimited plan, but apparently it never went through.
After months of dealing with horrible customer service reps and charges to my debit card from Verizon after I had cancelled and paid with another method, I most recently had my service shut off with Verizon when I arrived in Hawaii.  When I called customer service to ask why, Verizon said I hadn't paid my bill since April.  Funny, because my bank account shows a $337 payment processed in May that Verizon suddenly has no record of.
As usual, Verizon left it in my hands to correct their mistake while on my vacation with no apology from them.  I stopped at the airport and downloaded my bank statement with proof of payment and emailed the information to the email address Verizon provided.  I did this btw, from my husband's ATT phone, because Verizon refused to turn my service on for 24 hours so I could provide them the info. showing their major error or check into my hotel or get my rental car using the info. that I needed to access via my phone.  Hours later, my service still had not been turned on and when I called back, customer service provided no apology for my major inconvenience, no record of the bank statement and payment submitted AGAIN, and continued to insist I spend more time correcting their mistake on my vacation without access to my phone that I paid for, as I have for the past 12 years consistently.  Here it is a week later, I still have bank documentation that the payment processed, not to mention the additional $370 I spent the very next day in store for a new phone since they refused to fix the broken Blackberry they sent me, and Verizon still claims I have not paid them and they cannot find the documentation I keep sending.  UNBELIEVEABLE!!!!!!
