Symbol characters in flash

I am developing a flash movie for a college professor who
uses a lot of equations in her presentations. I was wondering if
there was an easy way to add greek letters and other math symbols
to a normal flash text box, or if it was possible to do anything
remotely similar to this.

I do not believe that your parents will go "spastic" because your iPod was stolen.  I'm thinking that you jailbroke it yourself.  Am I correct?

  • Symbol characters are not shown correctly in webbrowser

    Hello,
    I have migrated my Forms 6i-application to Forms 11G R2 (11.1.2.0).
Most problems I have solved. But now I see that Symbol-Characters in boilerplate-text in Formsbuilder are shown correct, but in the web they appear as "translated". In my case the Omega is turned to W.
In the registry.dat I placed Symbol to be carried to Symbol because I read java could use Symbol.
    But I am wrong.
Do you know what I must do to get the boilerplatetext shown in the rigth way?
    Thanks in advance.

  • Adding a trademark symbol in xml flash menu

Hi, I am a front end web designer/developer and
analyst...struggling with putting an accordian flash xml menu
together. I have it done except I need to add a simple trademark
symbol circle with r. I am struggling with how to do this since I
am not savvy in actioncript. I assume the best way is to add it is
with a CDATA child node, but do not know how or whatever is the
best way to get this done since am on a tight deadline. I need
someone to explain step by step what I have to do to get this
simple addition resolved. Attached are the links to home page and
code for the xml file. The left navigation is the asset that I need
to add the trademark symbol under about, about ADHERE. Thanks so
    much in advance!!!!!!

Okay, test files are up in the following directory:
    www.saffronthread.com/test
You can guess which ones are for you. I didn't deal with the
whole IE stupidness, so you my need to click on the page. But I've
got several different text fields some runtime some author
environment and sample text. Works for me on Mac and on the PC I
checked. Let me know what you find out.
As for System.useCodePage it is very seldom an actual
solution to the problem. It is a solution for when you want to be
sure that the user's Flash Plugin uses the computer's code page for
text rendering. Read the help entry for it and you will see that it
is not a solution for making sure that the most people possible
will correctly receive my text. It is more a solution for, I want
to make sure that those with Chinese operating systems are able to
correctly see the Chinese text I have encode with my special
    encoding.
Most questions that get a "Oh, you must use
System.useCodePage answer" are more like, "I want to make sure that
everybody on every type of system can see my special characters."
The answer for that tends toward proper use of UTF-8 and that is my
guess for your problem. That your XML file is not being saved as
UTF-8. If System.useCodePage is helping you that tells me that your
XML editor is saving to some odd (maybe very popular, but not
    UTF-8) encoding.

  • How to add special characters in Flash CS3

Hi, i need the help of some flash guru… these last weeks we were working with cloversites.com to build a community website… the interface is awesome etc etc however we in Malta have eight special characters (GCZ with a dot on top of them and an H with a second strikethrough). Those at cloversites wrestled with the problem, they could see the characters on their computers but when they entered the text in the site, flash couldn't render the special characters. Here is their message:
I am extremely sorry about this, but we were unable to add in your characters. We attempted to add them into our software but they did not work. We worked on it all morning and realized that we need an extra add-on for our keyboards. Adding special characters is nothing new to us and have answered this request for many of our international users. For some reason, the Maltese characters did not work in our sites. For example, our "option-G" is the copyright symbol so it will need to be transferred over to international characters.
Unfortunately, we thing that this has to do with Adobe Flash CS3. The software allowed me to embed the characters, but we were unable to render them on the web. Which led us to think it had to do with the version Adobe is running and its inability to render the text through its software on the web. None of the characters worked on the web, and it looks like its just an Adobe bug. So we are able to type and use the Maltese characters, but Adobe Flash is having trouble with them.
Does anybody know of any possible solution?

  • ASCII (SYMBOLS & CHARACTERS) Conversion to Telephone numbers

I am using oracle Release 9.2.0.7.0 and I am trying to access a database containing telephone numbers and codes, the table contains two columns with the names no and code both are VARCHAR2 column datatype. As you can see below the values in these two columns are ASCII characters and symbols. I tried to save the SQLPLUS query (select no, code from subdata) into a a file using spool command but the Ascii symbols and characters have being changed into some other format I am not familiar with I will show it below. Therefore is there a function that can help me to convert the ascii codes into the telephone numbers without doing any import or export, an embedded SQLPlus function will help me very much.
This is a sample of the current table containing the ASCII codes:

  • Display of Chinese Characters in Flash Video

'''Help needed to resolve issue with display of chinese fonts in Firefox.'''
I used to be able to run an html based chinese language learning program (with embedded Flash) in Firefox on my Galaxy Nexus mobile...that is until I installed the latest version of Firefox.
These are the instructions that came with the program to install/run it:
This site is best viewed with Mozilla FireFox 3.x+ (and above) with either Adobe Flash Player 8+ (and above) at a minimum screen resolution of 1024 x 768. We also recommend that you enable both JavaScript and Cookies in your chosen browser's settings. Obviously things have moved on since then and the version of Firefox I installed around May 2013 would have been around 22.0
While the above appear to be targeted at computer/tablet platforms the program ran successfully on my mobile and the embedded flash video worked well. The video clips and accompanying audio for each lesson were also accompanied by text that updated as each speaker began conversing. This text could be displayed (by selection) in English, Pinyin or Chinese characters.
With an upgrade to the latest version of Firefox the Chinese characters now no longer display although 'English' fonts do...why? Is this a character encoding issue? Can this be set? What has changed between version 22 or thereabouts that I installed in May 2013 and the current version. Someone must surely know ??? If this cant be fixed, how can I re-install an older version of Firefox on my mobile. As an aside
I was able to download firefox-22.0.bundle, some bundle.parts and .source files along with Firefox Setup 3.6.28.exe but cant install any of these. HELP needed please.

    Hello,
Can you please confirm that this is the summary of the issue you are facing
#On a site using Flash, and using Firefox 22.0, you were able to view English, Pinyin, Chinese characters on the flash video
#You upgraded Firefox to the latest version from the play store, and also have the latest Flash version, but the same Flash video doesn't display the Chinese characters now
#You are looking for the older version of Firefox for Android so that you can confirm that this issue has something to do with the latest version of Firefox
For the last point, you can download the Android APKs of the older versions from the following links
#[https://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/mobile/releases/22.0/android/en-US/ Android APK for Firefox 22.0 in English]
#[https://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/mobile/releases/22.0/android-armv6/en-US/ Android APK for Firefox 22.0 in English for Arm V6]
Please do note that you will need to enable the 'Install from unknown sources' option on the Android device to be able to install this APK. Suggest that you disable the setting after you finish your testing.
Please confirm the details above and we can help you resolve the issue.
    Thank you

  • Accented characters, XML, Flash

I have a flash application which is pulling information to
populate dynamic fields from two XML files. We have three
languages supported, and have been having problems with the
    non-english accented characters displaying properly
when they are called from the XML. I have checked that the
XML files are encoded in UTF-8, and we have also tried writing
the html code, the unicode code, putting the information in a
C DATA shell. I'm out of options that I can think of, and I'd
appreciate if any other folks have some input on this issue.
I did find this other thread which seems to be about the same
issue, but there was no resolution given on it.
    http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/webforums/forum/messageview.cfm?forumid=15&catid=194&threadid =1212142&highlight_key=y&keyword1=accent%20characters

So the same questions arise. What happens in the testing
environment if you trace it or if you go Debug and list variables?
Also you say they aren't displaying properly. What does that
mean? Exactly how are they improper?
PS: I'm absolutely certain that the other thread was not
    correctly saving as UTF-8.

  • Can't see korean characters in flash 10

I have my language/local set to Korean; also, I.E 8 has encodings for utf-8 set. (Same problem when viewed in Firefox vs 2.0.0.12) It is an English version of Windows XP, SP2 (all the latest patches installed - excluding SP3) This problem exists with a number of web sites; the attached file shows an example: the flash display (located line +5 from the top) does not display korean characters in the right box, yet, the left box is fine, note, this problem is illustrated elsewhere on this page. the URL is www.mnet.com  Although I am illustrating this problem with a 'community' web site, I have the same problem on my employer's web site; and therefore, I would apprecate valuable responses as to how to address this problem. thanks. B.

I have found the answer. It turns out that the option on the Advanced tag under regional options correct this problem; also corrects a similar problem I had with alpine emailer not displaying Korean.  thanks to all who may have read and thought about this problem.

  • Animating Characters in Flash

I am trying to animate a character in Flash and without being a drama queen I have spent HOURS trying to figure out how to achieve what I think should be a simple animation. I have a character that I want to perform a loop of walking. While that is repeating the character is moving his arms and talking. So the walking motion needs to loop, but everything else need to be different. So far I have this.
I have scene one which has 1 layer called layer 1. On this layer I have a graphic symbol called everything that contains all of the pieces for my character. Each animated part, the head, arms, mouth, and eyes are each symbols that have the different positions i will use. ( you can see an example of one of the arms loaded into keyframe caddy)
The animation will be the character walking forwards, and I am making the background in after effects so I am only concerned with the character in flash. I have a back and forth walking motion that lasts 24 frames, and is looped since it is a graphic symbol.
Right now my problem that since all of the different positions are loaded into the symbols I get a crazy export where it cycles through all of the images in the eyes, the mouth and the head, but the arms stay constant. Which is weird because all of those are at the same level and should be behaving the same.
Any direction on how to animate this character so I can sync him with a script would be awesome! I am brand new to Flash but have been watching a ton of tutorials on how to animate, but none go into the type of detail that I need to make this character work.

Rob, I feel sad that you haven't figured out the use of this wonderful feature, but it's not helpful spreading this misinformation. Graphics are the most useful symbol type there is. Every day I find new uses for the Graphic symbol that makes development faster and easier.
To the OP: Here's a tutorial that will get you started. The trick is to realize that if the timeline you place the graphic symbol on is longer than the graphic symbol, the symbol will loop by default. this means you could have one or more symbols for the walking, then use multiple other symbols over the top for the other things the character needs to do. You can also choose what frame starts the loop (or choose play once), which means that you can put keyframes in various places that use smaller parts of the animation if that suits your needs.
For example, I can't recall if this tutorial does the walking this way (haven't read it in a while), but you could animate one leg and use it as both the right and left legs by offsetting the start frame where one leg starts first.
