System memory in java.

Anyone knows how to detect how much memory is still available in the system by using java? I got java.lang.OutOfMemoryError exception. so want to know if there is a way to find out the memory of the system.
Thanks!

Hello,
There are two methods for getting the memory details of the system on which the JVM is running. These are:
Runtime.freeMemory( )and,
Runtime.totalMemory( )These methods are stored in the Runtime class which is located in the java.lang package.
The values returned ( bytes) by these methods are an approxomation, "but are perfectly acceptable".
I hope this helps,
-Marek.

  • Read & Write Shared memory with Java

    Hi,
I have to read and write from/to shared memory four integers with Java, using Posix package (the shared memory is already created).
I've looking in google for any examples that attachs, read, and write to shared memory using that package but i couldn't find anything (that's the reason to write in this forum).

Could anyone help me with any example, please?
    Thank you very much

Hi, i can't post any code because i have no idea about posix and shared memory.
I came from web world and my company has send me to space department, two weeks ago, that use Unix as its operative system.
The first thing i have to do it's what i post but i don't know even how to start doing it, because this is almost the first time i hear about reading and writing shared memory.
Java is a high level and non-dependent platform (but this kind of things i think are dependent platform, in this case the opearative system) and it's few time since i am working with this operative system.
That's the trouble i don't know how to start working with this.
    Thanks again

  • Hi java.lang.System.gc() vs java.lang.Runtime.gc()

hi all what is the exact diff.,
    java.lang.System.gc() vs java.lang.Runtime.gc()
why dont I call Runtime.gc() like System.gc(), is ther any possibility ?
    Thanks in advance

Thanks, but I just want to call Runtime.gc() like
System.gc() forcefully to invoke finalize() method
Thanks in advanceThe calls are the same. Read the javadoc:
    http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.5.0/docs/api/java/lang/System.html#gc()
    public static void gc()
    Runs the garbage collector.
Calling the gc method suggests that the Java Virtual Machine expend effort toward recycling unused objects in order to make the memory they currently occupy available for quick reuse. When control returns from the method call, the Java Virtual Machine has made a best effort to reclaim space from all discarded objects.
The call System.gc() is effectively equivalent to the call:
    Runtime.getRuntime().gc()

    Hi
I want to know, how to change system time through java program.

There isn't any core Java API for this. Use JNI or call an external process with Runtime.exec().

  • How to cooperate the current mail system with Sun Java Commnication Suite 5

    Dear all and Shane,
Excuse me for bothering you again.
Due to time limited, I would like to know how to cooperate the current mail system with Sun Java Commnication Suite 5. I mean I would like to use current mail system (mailscanner + postfix + courier-IMAP + clamav + spamassassin + webmail) and use the outlook connector to connect to Sun Java COMMS 5 to share the calendar, contacts only.
Right now I have done the testing by using outlook, mac mail, thunderbird to share calendar, contacts via Sun Java COMMS 5 in Centos Linux 5.
    My plan is as following
    1. Sun Java Communication suites 5 server ( I called it comms5 ) will be in DMZ zone and will open the necessary ports in firewall.
    2. I will create more than six sub domain name in Sun Delegate server and the necessary accounts within these domain names.
    3. All messages will be transmitted via Postfix and clients will retrieve from Courier-IMAP
    4. All Clients included other branch offices will use different mail clients to share their calendars, contacts via COMMS5 ( But how will COMMS handle the messages such like invitation ? )
    Any suggestions will appreciate.
PS: Is it possible to classify the contacts in outlook address book ?
For example, when user click the receiver, it will show like as following
    GLOBAL ADDRESS BOOK
    --Director
    --and so on
    ----CN.BRANCH OFFICE
    -----------CN01 EMAIL ADDRESS
    -----------CN02 EMAIL ADDRESS
    -----------CN03 EMAIL ADDRESS
    and so on
    ----JP.BRANCH OFFICE
    -----------JP01 EMAIL ADDRESS
    -----------JP02 EMAIL ADDRESS
    -----------JP03 EMAIL ADDRESS
    and so on
    ----TW.BRANCH OFFICE
and Due to the user account is located in CN.BRANCH OFFICE, it will extend the CN.BRANCH OFFICE contacts level.
Excuse me for bad English, hope you can understand it.
    Best Regards,
    Bruce

Also the use of Outlook Connector with a non-Sun IMAP backend isn't supported, nor is the use of a non-Sun IMAP backend possible with UWC.
Right now I have done the testing by using outlook, mac mail, thunderbird to share calendar, contacts via Sun Java COMMS 5 in Centos Linux 5. Once again I should remind you that CentOS is not a supported platform for comm-suite-5

  • System memory vs disk usage -- why is my hard drive almost full if my system memory is half empty?

I have a white Macbook, 2.4 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo processor with 2 GB of memory, Mac OS X, version 10.5.8, purchased in 2008. My Mac keeps warning me that my startup disk is almost full, and indeed Activity Monitor shows that my disk usage has minimal free space (2.31 GB). However, the System Memory tab shows that half my space is free.
Does the discrepancy mean that there is lots of space left on my Mac? If not, how can I identify if some sort of error is filling up my memory? Right now, I have a lot of music and documents stored on my laptop, but nothing else, and I would like to be sure it's those two things that are filling up the space.
What is the recommended method for adding more memory to my Mac, if nothing else?

There are two different types of memory in your Mac. There is system memory, more commonly referred to as RAM, and there is disk space. RAM is where the Mac works on data. Disk space is where data is stored for long term storage.
You are in serious danger of causing your Mac to die completely by running it with so little free space on your system drive. It is imperative that you start either deleting or move data off the disk drive. You should have 8 to 10 time as much free space at least at all times for OS X to run will.
A tool that can  with cleaning up your disk drive is OmniDiskSweeper. It will tell you the files and fol,der that are using the most space. That will give you good candidates for deletion or movement.

  • System time for Java Stack and ABAP Stack of PI

    HI,
We have a scenario in which we have a synchronous flow of data. In the forward flow we have used field UZEIT in an RFC Lookup to register the inbound time and in the reverse flow we have used current time function of SAP PI mapping. PI time is the local time of the server, However UZEIT is 4 hours ahead compared to PI time.
Both the Java and the Abap stack are installed on the same server.
Kindly let us know the reason for the difference in time on both the stacks.
    Regards,
                Milan Thaker

    Hi,
Yes I am refering to the System->Status time in ABAP Stack. Could you please tell me where can I check the System time of JAVA stack. I got one XML file in UME which refers to some timestamp in com.sap.security.core.usermanagement but I failed to locate this field. Please let me know where can I find the Java stack time and how can that be synchronized with ABAP.
Also, is there any time zone settting in JAVA for UTC , the way we have in ABAP

  • How to assign more system memory in PE 10?

PE10 has crashed a number of times and will not allow use of Ken Burns.  Searches retrieved information on how to assign more system memory in previous versions of PE, but the methodology explained could not be used for PE10 as the relevant actions could not be located.
What worked in a previous version of PE:
    > Edit > Preferences > General
In addition, the guidance suggested 1.5 should be enough but if the recommended amount for PE10 should be different (particularly for Ken Burns), advice would be most welcome.
    Thank you.

  • How to check actual allocated and used memory for java process in solaris?

    Hi,
I'm testing performance for java application on solaris 10. And I would like to know how to measure actual memory allocated and used for java process.
I'm setting -Xms512m -Xmx512m for my java process and I use prstat command to monitor it's memory. But I found that when I run prstat to check, in SIZE column is more than I setting (found 644).
So I'm don't know the actual memory that java process used. (In this case,is it mean the process use memory (644) more than setting (512)?)
    Thank you.

With Xms/Xmx you specify the Java heap size. On top of that comes the permanent generation (default max size 64m) and the C part of the process (the JVM itself with all its libraries and data).
With "ps -e -o pid, vsz, rss, args" you get the virtual and set resident size of your processes.

  • MSSQL 2008 R2 - 32bit, TSQL backup with compression, error: There is insufficient system memory in resource pool 'internal' to run this query

    Hello,
I would like to ask you about advice.
We have MSSQL 2008 R2, 32 bit. Memory is 4GB, split into 2GB for Windows and 2GB for applications. Database has recovery model simple because we have replicated data into other servers ( 2 ). Contemporary we work with 2 servers. Max memory for MSSQL is 2048
    MB.
We set the backup as follows:
    USE MSDB
    GO
    DECLARE @JMENO_ZALOHY VARCHAR(120)
    SELECT  @JMENO_ZALOHY = 'E:\backup\BackupSQL\1 Pondeli\DAVOSAM_'+ convert( varchar(2), datepart( hh, getdate() ) ) + '00_DEN_DIFF.bak'
    SELECT  @JMENO_ZALOHY
    BACKUP DATABASE [DAVOSAM]
    TO DISK = @JMENO_ZALOHY
    WITH INIT, DIFFERENTIAL, CHECKSUM, COMPRESSION
    GO
Every second or third day in log there is error message: 'There is insufficient system memory in resource pool 'internal' to run this query' Accurate in time of backup. The error is still repeat, majority in working hours.
Today I have found out, that problem is probably in compression of backup. Because if I removed word: compression, a backup normally runs without error.
Question: Is my hypothesis correct that problem is in backup with compression?
    Thank you David

Hello, today evening I have ran backup command bellow. All is OK. Probably MSSQL has cleaned memory. Next attempt I will try in peak next week.
Since time I have removed word compression, in error log is not any error.
I have checked memory as soon as memory gets on top, it is about 1.707 GB the MSSQL writes into log this messgages:

  • SQL2012 Express Error: "insufficient system memory in resource pool 'internal' to run this query"

I am running the SQL2012 express (version shown below) and get the following error after a day or two of operation. This is a new server 2012 installation.
source: SQL2012Express  "There is insufficient system memory in resource pool 'internal' to run this query."
The installed version of SQL2012 express is:
    Microsoft SQL Server 2012 (SP1) - 11.0.3128.0 (X64)   Dec 28 2012 20:23:12  Copyright (c) Microsoft Corporation
    Express Edition (64-bit) on Windows NT 6.2 <X64> (Build 9200: ) (Hypervisor)
I read a few of the postings but couldn't determine the exact hot fix or update to run or if I am running the latest already.
Which .exe file should I run for the update? I downloaded a file called 473913_intl_x64_zip.exe but it said it wasn't tested yet?
Can I uninstall this path or hot fix if it breaks something?
What can I do to correct this internal memory error and prevent from happening.
    Thanks
    Morris
    Thank you Morris

    Hi MoCoder,
According to your description, the error may be occurred by the following possible reasons, for example,
the ram was be completely used, reached the maximum memory allocation configured values in SQL Server or virtual memory is full and so on. Before you install the related cumulative update of SQL Server 2012, I recommend you do the following
steps for fixing this error. For example, allocate more memory to SQL Server, kill the unnecessary idle sessions, increase the RAM and virtual memory and reduce the number of users and so on.
For more information, you can review the following article,
    http://sqlserverlearner.com/tag/there-is-insufficient-system-memory-in-resource-pool-internal-to-run-this-query
In addition, you also need to check if there is the SQL Server memory leak, most of the memory leaks in SQL Server is caused by 3rd party Dll’s which are loaded in SQL Server process,
or you enable the Auto Update Statistics Asynchronously statistics option in a database of Microsoft SQL Server 2012.
