System no longer "sees" my DLT drive - Adaptec card seems to be fine though

Hoping for help before going the route of purchasing new cable, etc.
I need to format a dual layer job for replication onto my DLT 7000 tape drive but DVD SP3 says the drive is not connected. I un/re-plugged all, made sure to start DLT first and let it go through all it's motions but still no good. System profiler sees the Adaptec 2930CU card and when I connect to my Epson scanner (different cable needed than the DLT drive) it works fine. So I have little reason to doubt the Adaptec card and it always worked before with this DLT drive. I had to loan out the Adaptec card to a partner while I was out of town a few months ago and we have not had any jobs requiring replication since then.
The system profiler does not see the DLT and obviously nor does DVD SP3 at this time. Is there some chance a setting/extension was thrown off by disconnecting the card and putting it in another G4 then returning it in it's former slot.
Thank you in advance for any support.

Hal,
Sorry for the delay to get back to this post.
Your help is appreciated.
I have made sure after unplugging all concerned components to start the DLT drive first before turning on the G4.
I have removed the Adaptec card from my computer and given it along with the DLT drive and cable to my partner (as it last worked on his G4 - while I was on vacation/business travel). He reports the same problem. We will be purchasing a new cable today in hopes that will resolve the problem.
I hope it is not firmware/software related as that type of problem is usually a recipe for getting to know how poorly supported that aspect of troubleshooting can be when it comes to vendor volleyball.

  • My G4 Mini no longer sees the optical drive....?

    Hello,
Thanks for looking. I have a Mini that no longer sees any optical drive I install. It's an Apple OEM superdrive that the system profiler does not see, nor will any disc mount. I've tried and Apple OEM combo drive too. I'vre reset the PMU and done a "pram" reset too. External DVD-R drive works.. but nothing internally.
    Thanks for any help.

DaddyPaycheck, thankyou for the reply. It appears there might be some physical damage which worries me. But what perplexis me is that the drive receives power... it takes the disk (won't eject it.. even on restart, but it takes the disc), and when I boot into open firmware, I get "unable to eject the drive volume"... or something like that... The point being that it appears to believe that there is a drive, but doesn't know what to do with it.
That being said...it still won't recognize in the ATA of the system profiler.

  • MacBook Air No Longer Sees Remote External Drive

I have an iMac with a FW800 connected external hard drive. I use it for Time Machine backups. Also use an Airport Extreme for wireless connection. My MacBook Air at one time was able to "see" that external drive via the Airport and I used it to backup the laptop with Time Machine. Now, all of a sudden, the MBA no longer sees the external drive. What has happened? I use the MBA only occasionally, and told Time Machine to backup only when I tell it to. So, LOTS probably has changed since the last backup. But, what change has broken this connection? My iMac sees it just fine and does Time Machine backups just fine. When I want to share the DVD drive of the iMac, that works as it should. I just can't see that dang external drive any longer. Both machines are at 10.5.6
Can you folks give me some places to start looking to get things working again?

Does the time machine volume meet the requirements?
-internal drive, not start up disk
    -XSAN volume
    -USB drive
    -fire wire drive
    -eSATA drive
-network server via AFP (from machines running Leopard), including machines running file sharing
the volume must be formated as Mac OS Extended or Mac OS Extended (case-sensitive)
    You can't use:
    -Boot Camp partition
    -iPod
    -disk image
    -AirPort Disk
    -iDisk

  • Clone no longer sees MBP internal drive

When I boot up from a clone on an external drive, the internal drive of my MBP no longer appears in the Finder -
nor does it appear as a startup disk in System Preferences.
In fact, none of my clones are recognising the MBP any more.
The MBP drive is only 3 months old, and Apple branded, and all drives are formatted OS Extended (Journaled).
Everything was working perfectly until recently - without there being any changes to the setup as far as I know.
Any idea what’s happened, and how to fix it?
    It’s a mid-2009 MBP running 10.9.4.
(I originally posted this in the Mavericks forum, but maybe it's even more relevant here.)

Apple does not produce any drives on their own - so any "Apple branded" drive would be manufactured by a third-party.
Have you tried booting into your Recovery partition (hold down the command and R keys whilst booting) and using Disk Utility to Verify and, if needed, Repairing your internal drive? Does your machine boot with all of your clones as well as your internal drive, but does not show up on the Desktop when booted from a clone? Have you used Disk Utility to see if the machine actually 'sees' the internal drive?

  • System no longer sees ix2-dl

I recently purchased an ix2-dl enclosure and two 2TB WD Red drives.  The initial setup went smoothly and everything was working great using the default RAID1 setup.  After I upgraded the firmware I could not longer use the Lenovo manager utility but I could manage the device online.
Then I pulled the drives and installed them in my Windows 8.1 Pro desktop, configured the drives in RAID 1, and again everything worked fine.
Unfortunately, now when I re-install the HDDs in the ix2-dl enclosure they aren't detected on the network or online.  I tried cleaning them with diskpart using the instructions I found on this site and reinstalling them in the enclosure, but my system still can't see them.  (I cleaned the drives but didn't initialize them --- was that my mistake?)
I'm new here and I've searched the forum for a similar issue without luck so if any of you can provide a link it would be greatly appreciated.  I'm open to all suggestions.

Can you boot into it without drives in it or with only one at a time?
You may want to contact tech support directly. An error may have occurred during the update or with moving the disks around. They should be able to get you an imager to flash the unit again.

  • PCS no longer sees BT Widcomm driver

    Hi
    [cross-posted in Connections]
I have a 6230i and a Safecom BT dongle using the Widcomm 1.4.2 build 10 BT driver s/w on Vista.
This all used to work OK, but after installing PCS v6.85.14.1, the Nokia Connection Manager now no longer shows the Bluetooth (Widcomm) option - just the Bluetooth (Microsoft) option. If I try to check the MS option, I get the "Cannot use the connection type ... Code (OpenMedia)" error.
I've tried all sorts of repairing and uninstalling BT & PCS s/w but to no avail.
Any ideas why PCS no longer seems to recognise the Widcomm BT driver?
Message Edited by mrb08 on 17-Feb-2008 10:26 PM

Just to close this off here's my post in the other thread.
Yes I finally managed to confirm that it's a PCS bug. Here's what I did.
It appears that PCS cleaner app does not support Vista nor later versions of PCS. After uninstalling all Nokia s/w from my PC, checking no old Nokia folders remained, cleaning the registry and then reinstalling PCS 6.85.14.1, the "Cannot use the connection type ..." error remained. :-(
Then I managed to find an old download of PCS (v6.82.27.0) and after installing that, the connection error is gone and the Bluetooth (Widcomm) option is back in Connection Manager! :-)
How does one report a PCS bug to Nokia?

  • Mac no longer sees old external drive, or new external drive

I have been using a Seagate external drive for months. All of a sudden, my Mac doesn't see it in Finder (Or Disk Utility), and no longer mounts it. • Imac no longer sees Back up drive

    Hi there,
Apologies if this topic has been covered already but I have been searching through related posts and have come to the conclusion that my back up hard drive is knackered. Can someone confirm this please?
I am a photographer and keep all my images on the imac (mid 2010 27") on Aperture, backed up on a La Cie 1TB external Hard drive.
Today the Imac stopped seeing the hard drive when I switch it on, yet it sees it still in disk utility. When I tried to verify, it stated - it needed repair, yet when I tried to repair it it said - can not repair disk and recover backup.
Now the disk utility doesnt recognise the hard drive at all. I have tried it in all the USB ports with the same result.
Am I to assume that the drive has finally had it?
Is there any way that I can recover whats on it?
    Yours hoping for a miracle.
    Stuart

    Arthur,
    Many thanks,
It was your suggestion re removing the drive from the case that worked.
All I actuallly had to do was remove the plastic cover from the drive, which seems like madness to me. So I sat it naked on top of the table, plugged it back in, switched it on and voila, the icon popped up on the desktop again. Go figure!
I was however able to retrieve my files. I have now started a new backup on another drive which will take the best part of 48hrs to complete and I'll see how the old disk performs with the lid off for a while but I think its probably on its way out.
    Regards
    Stu

  • Time Capsule 3rd Gen no longer sees External USB drive

Airport Utility 7.6.4 installed and no other updates are specified as avaiable.
For a while the external drive with two 1T Mac formatted partitions cannot be seen by network nor appears in Disk section of Airport Utility.
Mavericks used and all fully up to date.
Connecting drive to iMac and MBP directly allows use of the drive fine.
I think the firmware has stopped the external drive from being recognised. Did have the "USB Power"  amber light occur some time ago but selected to ignore. External drive is powered of course.
    Any ideas?

A Gen3 TC the USB port is seriously underpowered.
A powered hub is the first essential item to get this working. The fact that your disk is powered is insufficient.. I think also because of the limited number of USB devices the airport utility can work with.. even some powered hubs are simply not recognised.
For a while the external drive with two 1T Mac formatted partitions cannot be seen by network nor appears in Disk section of Airport Utility.
Mavericks used and all fully up to date.
The disk must appear in airport utility.
From there getting disks mounted in Mavericks can add another level of pain.. but recognition comes first.
The latest firmware is more likely a step backwards than anything.. I would downgrade the firmware to 7.6.1. Factory reset. Use all SMB naming, ie short, no spaces and pure alphanumeric.

  • AEBS no longer "sees" SUB hard drive... help please.

Purchased a new aluminum iMac, MacBook for the wife, AEBS, and a 250GB SimpleTech Pininfarina USB drive about 3 months ago. All have worked flawlessly until today. AEBS will not recognize the USB drive as of today. Powered everything down, started everything back up, still nothing. Tried using the AirPort Utility, nothing the utility does not show the drive at all. Plug the USB drive directly into my iMac and it mounts and works perfectly. Plug it into the AEBS, nothing.
What changed today to make it stop working? Anyone have this issue or have a fix? This is quite maddening. All solutions appreciated.
The USB drive is formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled)

    Hi Starrainne
If your logic board is defunct, it may not be possible to access the Hard Drive through Firewire Disk mode.
How to use FireWire target disk mode, but that would be the first thing to try as you may save yourself having to remove it.
If you can make no connection with the hard drive through that method then the next option is to physically remove the HD from the eMac, which is partly shown in these pictures.
    http://www.wilko.com/emac/
The HD is attached to the entire logic board assembly which also has to be removed.
Once removed you would then house it in an HD enclosure, examples are shown here:
    https://eshop.macsales.com/search/HD+enclosure
effectively making it an external Hard Drive.
With the HD in the enclosure, connecting it to the MacBook via a Firewire cable it will appear as another volume. In this instance you do not need to use Fire Target Disk mode to see it, as it is now removed and you are not required to boot into it. It will just appear as another volume on your Desktop allowing you to copy the data off your old drive and onto your MacBook.
There will be quite a bit of work involved doing all of this, mainly because your eMac is such a compact and integrated product that will take some patience to dismantle.

  • DVD Studio Pro: Which DLT drive?

    Hello,
I have DVD Studio Pro 4.0, and I plan to do the crossgrade to FC Studio Universal. I expect that I'll have need before long of a DLT drive to send tapes to duplication houses for DVDs that include features they can't get off a DVD-R. So, I was wondering if anyone could offer opinions on the least expensive (even refurbished) DLT drive with that primary purpose in mind? I could imagine, at the same time, that I might want to use DLT to back up project files, once they're 'finished'. So, maybe something with a larger capacity, I don't know.
    Thanks for your input!

I was wondering if anyone could offer opinions on the least expensive (even refurbished) DLT drive with that primary purpose in mind? I could imagine,
Some of the old Quantum Drives are nice and can be found inexpensively (you will need a SCSI Card) For the most part I find the only reason to have a DLT Drive at this point is for DLTs for DVDs, the speed and cost is not worth it.
As to backing up onto DLT, http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=2061706&#2061706 has some more of my thoughts

I was finally able to resolve this issue. I went to LaCie's site and went to the support area to find troubleshooting steps for my particular drive. It turns out that the problem was corrected when I swapped the power supply cord of the "troubled" drive with another LaCie drive that I have and that seemed to resolve the problem. Thank you Tony for your help. I appreciate you guys!
