inplace of mkstoolkit i installed cygwin,
which command i need to use in place of this:-
" 'C:\mks\mksnt' for the location of MKS during the installation" -"Provide the pathname to the bin directory under the Cygwin Root Directory instead (For example, "C:\cygwin\bin").
After you install Cygwin, please do the following:
C:\> copy gawk.exe awk.exe (answer yes to copy over existing file)
C:\> copy grep.exe egrep.exe
C:\> copy make.exe gnumake.exe
C:\> copy gcc.exe cc.exe
Add the cygwin bin directory to the system path.
For more details about installing Cygwin, please refer to Note: 302859.1 - Using Cygwin to Maintain Release 11i on Windows

    Hi healee,
    Thank you for your update.
All of the components in the operating system are found in the WinSxS folder – in fact we call this location the component store.  Each component has a unique name that includes the version, language, and processor architecture that it was built for.
An INF file is a text file that contains all the information that device installation components used to install a driver. Windows installs drivers using INF files. This information includes the following:
    a. Driver name and location
    b. Driver version information
    c. Registry information
    For your reference:
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/hardware/ff549520(v=vs.85).aspx
You may refer to the informations above to check what is the file for.
Based on my experience, it may related to print driver, you may consider to cantact the printer's manufacturer for insight.
Theoretically, the sfc /scannow command will scan all protected system files, and replace corrupted files with a cached copy that is located in a compressed folder at %WinDir%\System32\dllcache. The %WinDir% placeholder represents the Windows operating system
folder. There are a limited set of cached files, the rest must be manually replaced if they are corrupted or missing.  SFC probably will not fix the corrupted file due to there are updates in the process of installing. Those updates either need to complete
their installation or be uninstalled, or removed.
    Hope it helps.

It seems that you may not have gotten the entire message into your thread here, but the following Knowledge Base article offers a good resource on which messages from Disk Utility's Repair Disk Permissions can be safely ignored:

Saw the same post at other place too..
While running rapid install did you give the mount points for Data_top ora_top and Appl_top to correct values
For system utils check for the PATH env variable is it pointing to right place.
For OS check .. I am not sure. (you should have checked the certiifcation matrix for this .. or may be some required patches are missing for this OS)

    Msg 3624, Level 20, State 1, Line 3
A system assertion check has failed. Check the SQL Server error log for details. Typically, an assertion failure is caused by a software bug or data corruption. To check for database corruption, consider running DBCC CHECKDB. If you agreed to send dumps to
Microsoft during setup, a mini dump will be sent to Microsoft. An update might be available from Microsoft in the latest Service Pack or in a QFE from Technical Support.
    Msg 0, Level 20, State 0, Line 0
A severe error occurred on the current command.  The results, if any, should be discarded.

If you check your sql server error log folder you will see dump files created. You need to send those dump files to Microsoft for inspection because outside of microsoft product support the symbols for reading the dumps are not available without which it
wont be easy to find the issue.
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2028589
In the meantime check if you are on the latest version of Service Pack and if not apply the latest service pack. Majority of these kind of assertions are bugs which are solved in Service Packs/Cumulative Updates.

  • System Health Checks Utilities

    Hi Linux Gurus,
I need to understand some of the outputs of basic system health checks utilities - vmstat, netstat, iostat. As DBA point of view when I run any of the above utilities - what things I should look for. How can I know, the network traffic is high or network is not performing properly by using netstat. How can I know that the system I/O is high. Also I saw that there are many flags for these utilities which are very helpful to format or limit the output to a certain extent.
I will really appreciate the help on this topic.

  • System-wide Spell Checker Error

I newly installed Leopard on a MacBook Pro, and now in Mail, Safari and iTunes, I get a "Couldn't contact Spell Checker" error message when I try to type in these programs. The problem disappears in Mail if I set Spell Check to never in the preferences. Safari & iTunes don't have that option, that I could see.
But that's besides the point. Spell check should be seamless and automatic. The error doesn't just occur once. It basically hangs the program because the error cycles continuously and I have to force-quit to get out of the application.
So now I am using Firefox to type this because Safari wouldn't let me type without letting me know it can't contact spell checker.
To remedy the situation, I've verified and repaired permissions, although I did not see any permissions that related to this issue. I downloaded and re-installed the 10.5.1 update. No effect. I've spotlighted 'spell checker' and only gotten the .dll file from Windows as a return.
    Guesses, anyone?

etresoft, thanks for the hint. I looked and found tons of stuff, but not a thing to do with the spell checker error. I did log into another profile on the affected machine and had no trouble whatsoever. Does that mean the problem is in my home/library? I think, hopefully logically, that there's another program causing this issue. What would be the logical way to approach this?
