Systemd very nasty with incorrect setup

There was an error in my fstab. An entry for a partition that was not there anymore. But this partition wasn't essential. But instead of giving me a warning, it began by waiting for 90s until ask me "Give root password for maintenance or Press Crtl-D to continue). I pressed Ctrl-D but the machine hung. After pressing random key nervously, I see once again the 90s countdown. At this point, I forcedly reset the machine and booted a rescue disk. Is it not possible to configure systemd to be a little more tolerant. it might have waited for 10 sec, gave me a warning and booted anyway. The only thing to do was to remove the entry for the non existent partition in /etc/fstab.

No, it's nofail. From my fstab:
/dev/vg0/v_build /home/testing/build ext4 defaults,stripe=512,data=ordered,nofail 0 2

  • PPM with incorrect setup group information

    Hello all,
We have a problem with information of setup group updated in PPM.
At the first time, the user has created the routing with the incorrect information in ECC, but when he has corrected it, the CIF PPM interface was not able to correct it in APO.
Even when we try correct manually using transaction /SAPAPO/SCC03, we are not able to fix the information. Always, the old value of setup group is considered.
    Can you help us?
    Thanks in advance.
    Januario Faria

    Hello all,
We were able to solve the problem.
We had two setup groups with the same SETUP_ID in table /SAPAPO/SET_ID.
In order to solve the problem we had to follow the steps:
    1.     Delete production and planned orders of related products;
    2.     Delete products' PPMs;
    3.     Delete setup groups from setup matrix;
    4.     Delete setup group;
    5.     Reactivate setup group integration model;
    6.     Reactivate PPM integration model.

    Januario Faria.

  • Period Incorrect Setup

    Hi Experts.
Our client is running SBO 2007A SP00 PL45.
Their financial year runs from 1st January to 31st December.
They have incorrectly setup 2010 as a single period instead of 12 calendar months.
They have entered transactions into this period and so it can't be deleted and setup again correctly.
Is there any way we can dig ourselves out of this hole?
    Your thoughts would be appreciated.
    Kind regards,
    Julie Coppins

    Hi Julie
Once they have posted, you are in a bit of a hole! There are some articles on this subject on the wiki
I have just re-built a database as the customer changed their FY but alrady had postings. We restored a backup, deleted the incorrect periods, re-added the new FY and then imported all of the transactions again...
You have some options, they are listed below: Good Luck
Peter (let me knwo if I can assist further)
It frequently occurs that posting periods are defined, postings have been made & then a decision is taken to change the posting periods from, e.g. months to year. SAP Business One does not allow the change of posting periods as soon as there has been a journal transaction. There are 2 options to correct the posting periods. It will depend on the circumstances & the number of transactions which method is the most suitable.
    Option 1 (preferred solution):
Roll back to the last backup of the database before the first posting was created using the new period:
    1.     Identify all delta data that has been added to the database since the first posting has been made in the period to be corrected.
    2.     Export this data by either using the 'Export to Excel' functionality or export from a 'select' SQL query.
    3.     Reinstate the backup & create the correct posting period, backup the database.
    4.     Import all delta data.
Using this method, the integrity of the database & the appropriate sequence of posting periods is retained. All reporting can be done according to the correct periods.
Option 2 (technical alternative, use only if Option 1 is not possible):
    Example 1:
The Posting period is defined as 'Months' when it should have been 'Year'. There have been postings in the periods. In this example, the first 4 months have postings. The current setting is as follows:
All periods that do not have postings yet can be deleted:
    1.     Administration -> General Settings -> Posting Periods -> open the period
    2.     Rightclick in the 'Posting Period' window & select 'Remove'
Once only periods are left that have postings, perform a complete period end closing including all reporting. Backup the database.
Create a new posting period as follows (Caution: Check if your customer uses period indicators & adapt appropriately):
Ascertain that the 'To'-posting date is correct.
The new fiscal year starts at the first day of the new period. Any subsequently defined period will start at 01.01.2009.
    Example 2:
The posting periods should be set per month & have erroneously been defined as per year.
Restrict the current posting date range to the next logical date, e.g. with a current date of 21.04.2008, the last posting date for the current period should be set to 30.04.2008, such that the next period starts on 01.05.2008.
Create a new period as follows (Caution: Check whether your customer uses period indicators & act accordingly):
As sub-periods choose 'Months' & then set the number of periods to '8' (May, Jun, Jul, Aug, Sep, Oct, Nov, Dec). Click on 'Update'.
SAP Business One will then automatically create the required periods. On the last day of the current period take a backup of the database.
Once all transactions have been entered into the 'old' period, perform a complete period closing, including all required reporting.

  • I need some basic help with Email setup

Hello, I ve just been connected to infinity and I m trying to setup a few email addresses but the BT yahoo system is confusing me.
I managed to create a new email (sub account) for my wife but I m struggling with finding a way to have a couple more for myself. Do I really need to make a sub account for each email?
The default email has my name and surname in it which is not something I generally use for that purpose, I would only use that one for close friends and family, I would like to setup another one for general use and one for when there is a likelyhood it ll get a lot of spam.
The way to add extra emails is usually very simple (with previous isps) , login to "manage my account" and choose username and password then enter the details in outlook express.
With BT I m having to deal with the Yahoo thingy, which does a lot of more than just emails but at this time I have interest in it at all.
1 - I would simply like to setup a few emails to use with outlook express, what is the best way to achieve that ?
2 - The yahoo email seems to be part of a network like facebook, as I  don t intend to use that side of it I would prefer not to have my personal details associated with a profile that I do not  need . It seems to be for public viewing by default.
Can I set up and use my emails without having an online profile for yahoo?
How do i keep my details offline (not publicly viewable in yahoo)?
    thanks.

    yes!
you get one prime email address. the one you agreed to and the one to set up your bt mail, it was in letter confirming bt set up. (order ref)
for more for yourself, or anybody else,  its got to be sub. up to ten for INF2
I have set up 4 sub accounts with different names, etc. but use the same password for all 5 .
I then had them set up with outlook express, there is a bt prog to do this. look on site.
Then I use incredimail as my final mail client, this also has a prog to set up from outlook express.
so all my mail to and from me ends up in incredimail with my 4 sub accounts, using one as my prime.
my bt prime I do not use, as it is my full name.
so far so good, just a bit slow finding its way, like you my previous ISP (tesco) was less complicated, but slow copper wire.
    good luck
    Ronin22
In the end we will all be star dust.
    Then start all over again.

  • [SOLVED] Luks with /arch/setup installation , fails at boot

    Hi all,
So I tried to install arch on virtualbox with encrypted partitions (root /, /home/ and swap), but it fails at boot.
    /dev/sda1 is /boot
    /dev/sda2 is swap
    /dev/sda3 is /
    /dev/sda4 is /home
The root partition seems to be loading fine because it asks for my password, then the boot sequence goes on, until the /home/ (apparently) :
    :: Bringing up loopback interface
:: Unlocking encrypted volumes: chome..Usage: cryptsetup [-?vyrq] (...all the options...can't copy paste with virtualbox)
    /sbin/cryptsetup: Unknown action
    failed [FAIL]
    /dev/mapper/croot: clean, 27576/457856 files, 166316/1830898 blocks
fsck.ext4: No such file or directory while trying to open /dev/mapper/chome
    Possibly non-existent device?
    /dev/sda1: clean,29/24096 files, 20790/96356 blocks
    [FAIL]
It seems that it tries to open /dev/mapper/chome but it's not mounted yet
In my /etc/crypttab, I added the lines :
    chome /dev/sda4 none luks
    cswap /dev/sda2 none luks
    /etc/fstab (I didn't change anything, /arch/setup configured it that way) :
    /dev/mapper/chome /home ext4 defaults 0 1
    /dev/mapper/croot / ext4 defaults 0 1
    /dev/mapper/cswap swap swap defaults 0 0
    /dev/sda1 /boot ext2 defaults 0 1
    And grub :
    title Arch Linux
    root (hd0,0)
    kernel /vmlinuz-linux root=/dev/mapper/croot cryptdevice=/dev/sda3:croot ro
    initrd /initramfs-linux.img
What I wanted to do was to have swap, root and home encrypted partitions mounted at boot, but maybe it is not possible?
I tried a lot of configurations for /etc/fstab and /etc/crypttab according to what I could find on the net but nothing worked. I read the whole tutorial https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Sy … _with_LUKS but there is no config for fstab or crypttab or grub when installing with /arch/setup
    Thanks for any help !

Indeed you have a point, putting password in plaintext isn't very safe.
    There is a good alternative though: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Sy … _a_Keyfile
the reason why you don't have a passphrase for root in a file somewhere is that you provide this passphrase during boot-time.
Somewhere during boot you get the option to unlock you root device by typing in a passphrase... right?
ro means that the volume is mounted read only http://linux.die.net/man/8/mount

  • Very disappointed with my Mac so far

I just took receipt of my first ever Mac yesterday after being convinced by several friends as to how cool Macs are and particularly impressed by promises that "Macs just work" (as opposed to PCs, which just give you lots of bother). After reading the (very short) manuals that came with it cover to cover, I started up and tried to use the thing. My experience was that a Mac is every bit as cantankerous as any PC.
First off, it didn't correctly understand my keyboard. I'm using a bog standard UK 105 key PC keyboard (which Apple claim will work on a Mac), but it did exactly the same as many PCs - it thought that the @ key was a " and vice versa. On a PC I would fix this by going to Regional Settings and changing the keyboard locale to UK, but on the Mac I had already done this! Furthermore, that keyboard viewer app doesn't show the shifted key values (not that it would have helped if it had - it would only have confirmed that the Mac is confused).
Next, I couldn't get my ADSL modem to work. It's a BT Voyager 105 modem - one of the most common such modems in use in the UK, and at the end of the installation process the Mac was of the opinion that it wasn't attached. I will concede, however, that this could be because the driver on the modem's drivers disk was only labelled as being for up to OSX 10.3, whereas I'm using Tiger, so I've downloaded the latest and will try that tonight when I get home.
Then there's the bug in the online help, and I have a feeling I saw this one many years ago when I first tried playing with a Mac. If you fire up Mac help and start navigating though it, you will encounter a few pages that immediately go into an infinite refresh loop, which means that the page flickers in a very nasty way and you can't scroll it. Also some of the links don't actually go anywhere.
The online help and documentation is poor anyway - couldn't find the list of standard keyboard shortcuts anywhere (did find a list of specifically configured shortcuts in the Preferences | Keyboards setcion, but that's not what I'm after here). For example, it was only by experimentation that I discovered that the way to jump between applications is Command-Tab. I never did discover how to launch something from the Finder via the keyboard. In Windows I would just select it and hit Return or Enter, but that did nothing in Tiger.
Also, why doesn't the maximise button work on all applications? I came across one during my exploits (can't remember which now) which when I clicked the maximise button did enlarge the window, but not so as to fill the desktop - instead I had to manually resize it.
So, all in all I am not impressed. The graphics are fancy (but how they compare with Vista when it releases remains to be seen - of course the Mac does manage it with a lot less horsepower than Vista needs, and that is to be commended), but that's just appearance - I'll happily take a green screen dumb terminal if it gets the job done quickly and well. If I don't start enjoying using this machine and quick it's going straight back to Apple for a refund.

Well, it's been four days now with my new machine and I'm pushing through the learning curve reasonably. Thanks to all those who have contributed to this thread. The keyboard thing is indeed because Apple's UK keyboard layout is not in line with UK PC keyboards. Since Apple tout the mini as BYODKM and clearly want switchers, the failure to provide keyboard mappings/resource files for PC keyboards from the world's various locales is a disappointing omission. I now know to use DeRez and Rez to configure my own keyboard mapping, but of course there was nothing in the help to tell me that. Indeed I never found anything telling me that the software development stuff needed to be explicitly installed by me - a fiend had to tell me this.
I've been playing with the iLife suite a bit, and was initially impressed but then less so. I made my first ever DVD (with videos and slideshows - not a DVD-ROM) using iDVD. Boy was that an experience - it was just so easy and the results looked so good, at first. Amazing menu buttons that contained clips of the bits of video that they themselves linked to, backing track, beautifully done templates - absolutely marvellous. Until I came to actually use the DVD in a DVD player. The iPhoto slideshow (now that was impressive - Ken Burns effect, 3 seconds per picture, fade to the next, backing track) that I had exported to iDVD had lost a lot of quality in the export (I did have the option to select a quality level and I had picked DVD or whatever seemed appropriate at the time). One of the menu buttons didn't actually link to its video clip, but just lost focus and the navigation buttons would not regain focus - the only way to get control was to back to the top menu and start again. While watching one of my video clips it suddenly jumped into another one for a few seconds, then back to the original, then away to the second, and so on.
The Mac still doesn't recognise that my modem isn't plugged in and I've accepted that it isn't going to. The bug in the help system is reproducible, although when I found it again I phoned up a friend who has a Mac and asked him to go to the same page, but his worked fine. This might be a difference between 10.4.5 and his 10.4.7 - I'd upgrade but I can't because I have no modem connection.
    My conclusions so far:
    a) The physical machine is gorgeous, but one can build PCs along the same lines
    b) OSX is reputedly (and I have no reason to doubt this) incredibly stable, being Unix based
    c) The rest is extremely pretty window dressing hiding disappointing functionality
    d) The documentation is so crap that I get a sense of arrogance - it's almost as though Apple actually believe their products are so intuitive that no one could possibly need any additional help.
    e) The people who suggested that I'm just too set in my ways to be bothered learning a new way of doing things are correct to an extent. If I had evidence that I would be getting something significant in return for expending this effort, I would be prepared to soldier on, but that isn't happening. I am coming more and more to the conclusion that I am going to send this back and get a silent mini-itx or nano-itx PC instead.
Sorry folks - one falls by the wayside.

  • Very pleased with New Macbook

Hi Everyone, I just recently (August 4th) bought my very first Mac. I was researching and brousing laptops for about 2 months and being an avid PC user I wanted to try something different and refreshing.
I was looking for a laptop for college. Mainly because my first year at UC Santa Cruz I dished out most of my summer job savings on a Gaming\Media PC and was left labtopless for an academic year. Now a new summer job is in session and I saved up enough cash to purchase a laptop for my second upcoming year at my Univeristy.
The new Macbook definitely caught my eye. It was perfectly priced and since I attend a University that free iPod Nano and educational discount was a sweet deal. I'm glad I held off one year to get a labtop, it totally paid off. Though it was kinda a pain to not have a laptop durring college, I managed very well with my Gaming PC, doing essays and late night coding and programming assignments. Hehe..
The Mac's OS is pretty sweet with all the visual eye candy and its super user friendly setup - its hard not to fall in love with it. Even though I still use my PC for HD Media and Gaming, (I love my PC to death since I built it from scatch) I find my self using my new Macbook for email, work, school, iChat, brousing the net, etc.
My new Macbook is simply amazing. I've had it for about one week and I've had absolutely no problems with it what so ever. It runs cool acording to this forum's standards, currently 41 C at room temperature and 35 C in my air conditioned room. Initially the mouse button on the trackpad would get stuck for a fraction of a second when you pressed it dead in the center but that little annoyance fixed itself as soon as I started using my Macbook more and more often and now it works perfectly. The battery works fine. All the app's run great. No crashes, no random reboots, nothing... yet. Though I will be dual booting Windows XP Pro soon.. See how that goes.
It really hurts to see so many people getting frustrated with their Macbooks.. I really wish that their situations would turn out to be more like mine. My compassion and sympathy go out to you all and I hope that soon, real soon, Apple fixes and irons out all the problems and that you become happy and satisfied with your Macbooks.
As a first-time Apple product user, it kinda worries me to hear and read about all the neglect that some long-time Apple users are receiving from apple care and public relations. I really hope this doesn't reflect the whole company as a whole. It would really dissapoint me if at this time of becoming a new Apple user, the Apple company started giving the cold shoulder and becoming disconnected from its customers. In my eyes Apple seemed to be that loving and customer caring company that tried its very best to become near and dear to its customers by providing unmatched quality products to it's loyal customer fan base. I really hope they don't veer away from this mind set.
Anyways the upshot is, I just wanted my first post to reflect how I feel about Apple and my Macbook and restablish some confidence in the Macbook. From my experience it's a great quality product and I hope to enjoy it for a long time. You guys will definitely get any updates as I use my Macbook and be hearing from me more often.. I've been reading a lot on this particualr forum but have been quiet untill now. Thanks for reading..

  • AirPort Express with PC -- Setup Problems

    Hi
Just wanted to share my experience -- I wasted most of a day getting my AirPort Express network up. Problem was, the setup software assumes that you have a wireless card in your PC. If, like me, you have a simple ethernet connection to a wireless router, then the program apparently has no way of finding the AirPort Express.
After hours of fumbling with suggestions on this forum, I finally found the tech support number and we figured out that I needed to run the setup program on my laptop, which does have a wireless card.
I would STRONGLY encourage Apple to re-write its setup software to recognize this very common hardware configuration and work with it, lest more customers waste more of their time. I was THIS CLOSE to angrily returning the box. Now that it's up, I really love it, but I almost didn't get there.
AirPort Express   Windows XP   No wireless card -- ethernet connection to wireless router
Airport Express   Windows XP   No wireless card -- ethernet connection to wireless router

I had the same problem as you did with the setup of the AX from a PC connected to the router by Ethernet. I was able to run the setup by using the "Other ..." button at the bottom of the Base Station Chooser and giving it the IP address of the AX.
Does iTunes on the PC connected to the router by Ethernet find the AX? It doesn't for me. It works great from my other 3 PCs that are connected to the network by wireless. Of course, the PC with the problem is the one across the family room from the stereo ...

  • After install Windows 10, the texts in Skype are not very neat, with low definition

After  install Windows 10, the texts in Skype are not very neat, with low definition. This has happend just with Skype. Do you know how I can fix it?

I HAVE FOUND A FIX! Searching through the support blogs paid off in a big way. A minor registry edit is all it took and my drive is working like new! Here's the fix. My system is Windows 10 64-bit.  Resolution 5: Create a registry subkey
Note To use this method, you must be logged on to Windows as an administrator. If you need help verifying that you are an administrator, go tohttp://support.microsoft.com/gp/admin
Important Follow the steps in this section carefully. Serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Before you modify it, back up the registry for restoration in case problems occur.
To create the registry subkey, follow these steps:
Press the Windows logo key + R to open the Run box. (or right-click on windows icon in lower left corner)
Type regedit in the Run box, then press Enter. If you are prompted for an administrator password or for a confirmation, type the password, or click Allow
In the navigation pane, locate the following registry subkey:
        HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\atapi
Right-click atapi, point to New, then click Key.
Type Controller0, and then press Enter.
Right-click Controller0, point to New, and then click DWORD(32-bit) Value .
Type EnumDevice1, and then press Enter.
        Right-click EnumDevice1, click Modify....
Type 1 in the Value data box, and then click OK.
        Exit Registry Editor.

    Hello,
You are correct, Blue tooth low engergy, BTLE.(only) devices are not backward compatible with Classic bluetooth and cannot connect.
However the Apple 4S and above have Bluetooth 4.0 support.. Hardware wise it has bothClassic Bluetooth, like the 3GS, as well as Bluetooth Low Energy.  There is no good reason why your 4s cannot communicate to your Sony in-dash player using the Classic bluetooth that resides in the 4S.
I know that this does not answer the why it does not work, but it should work. Do you have to somehow re-pair the new phone up to the player?  Not  knowing the model of the Sony it is hard to investigate.
And I hate to ask but are you sure that the Bluetooth radio is on in the phone?

  • Help With My Setup...

I Hope I'm in the right forum, If not let me know where this post should go.
Thanks for helping me out. I have some questions regarding my setup and acquiring new gear. Currently, I have a the following setup:
    IMac - newer model
    Logic Pro 9
    Numark tt-usb turntable
    Stanton DJ mixer
    Pair of Yamaha HS80 monitors
    MPD 24
I would like to add a keyboard controller (I'm thinking of the new Korg Microsampler). Basically, I'm willing to get the microsampler as long as it can Fully function like a controller, which can control logic synths & plug-ins(axiom, mpk, etc.) and as well as it's own features. Furthermore, I would like to to be able to record from my turntable to logic and into the microsampler. I understand I would need an interface. Would I still need the mixer? Would the M-Audio Firewire Solo work with my setup?
Would a control surface take place of an Interface?
I am possibly interested in getting a control surface that works good within logic. I was looking at the Euphonix MC Control, it seems to work great with logic. Is there an cheaper alternative? Also, I would like it to be user friendly, I am new to this.
Essentially, I want everything to work simple & smoothly. I like to make sample based music from records. Can you give me a rundown of the necessary items I'm going to need...cables, interface, etc.
Sorry, if I'm rambling just want to be clear.
    I appreciate your time....

I use a Alesis multimix FW and a presonus inspire.
I would guess that you should always get dry sound from any output with firewire plugged in or not. My inspire uses a software control panel to route signal and the Multimix is all hardware. I have no clue how to route signal with the firebox but it has to be one or the other. Presonus is pretty good with updates and bug fixes did you check for new drivers?

I have an older version of Adobe Digital Editions (around 3 years old) and was very happy with it.
Then I had problems with my Kobo Reader and asked a friend who works in IT to assist. She could not fix the Kobo but she messed up my Addobe. She downloaded version three and I have an account and a password - was not able to transfer my books from my reader to version three (and I don't like the lay-out - I would prefer to stay with the old version as I also loose all my download date info..)
But all the books I have bought over the last three years are in the old Adobe Digital and I cannot access them any more. When I use it I get the message "that the document is licensed to a different account. I can't even open the books on my computer.
When I go to my Kobo library, I cannot also not open my books and get the message "this doc is protected by adobe digital rights management and is not currently authorized for use with your adobe. please sign in with your authorized adobe id and try again"
I believe the problem is that I do not seem to have a digital id for my old adobe or that the Kobo is not in sync with it anymore.
can you please help me - going on vacation in three days and cannot go without books.

Please authorize ADE 3 with same credentials that you used with older version of ADE

<WHOA ---- $88 bucks?!?! I can buy a "new" refurbed unit online for cheaper than that...AND I would get a warranty!! Since they said if I needed clarification or assitance, reply, to which I did:
Let me make sure I understand this... I tried updating my player withyourlatest firmware, and it fried my mp3 player, and now I have to pay up to$88 to fix a problem cause by your software? I just want to make sureIunderstand this issue. Thanks

Keep on holding the Play/Pause button till the Rescue Mode screenappears.6. After the recovery mode has started, release the Play/Pause button.<IT'S THE EXACT SAME EMAIL AS THE FIRST EMAIL THEY SENT BACK!!!!! I responded to that email just a little while ago requesting that a supervisor or manager please contact me... Their support is absolutely HORRENDOUS! I am wondering if these people in "tech support" are technically or are just flowing a flow chart for procedures.
I have been the IT field for 8+ years, I deal with customers on a daily basis. I have never in my life seen this kind of business practice, of A) a company not standing behind their products & work and B) supporting the customers issues after the fact. I understand I am a lowly MP3 owner, but I have always purchased creative products, I've got 2 sound cards running in my pc's here at home. I've purchased speakers, this mp3 player, referred my father in law to purchase a similar mp3 player from creative, bought my brother the same mp3 player. This whole exprience has put a bad taste in my mouth and to see that there are quite a few others are having the same issue makes me sick...
P.S. sorry for being so long winded in this, I know its alot to read, I tried to cut out the non-essential stuff in the emails I posted but I still can't believe my player is junk now after a failed firmware update.

A quick question: When you try to reset the unit, is it connected to the charger? If yes, OK you say it's dead, so no screen display, BUT, can you hear if the hard dri've is spinning? I think it's very unlikely that a firmware upgrade process would have any chance of physically killing a unit altogether.
Another thing to check - is the battery firmly located in place? You can remove the front cover to access the battery compartment.

Yes - that is correct, I have been trying to reset the unit with it connected to AC power via the charger...No you cannot hear the harddri've spinning. Yes the firmware can kill the unit, not "physically" but it has logically shut down the unit to where it will not power up. The battery is firmly seated...Just as a side note, when I tried the original firmware upgrade the unit was plugged into the charger as well, so I know there were no power outages etc during the attempted upgrade.

My macbook pro is running very slow with some strange mouse and window movements. The trackpad is very unresponsive and when responding the cursor moves on its own and/or very erratically. When on safari the window suddenly zooms in or highlights words and looks them up via dictionary. I currently have a wireless mouse connected and I am still having the same problems.
I fee like I may have a virus or my laptop is perhaps being accessed remotely. All of the sharing options are unchecked.
    HELP PLEASE
    Very worried!!

Try these in order testing your system after each to see if it's back to normal:
    1. a. Resetting your Mac's PRAM and NVRAM
        b. Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)
    2. Restart the computer in Safe Mode, then restart again, normally. If this doesn't help, then:
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the
COMMAND and R keys until the Utilities menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and
after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears.
Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    3. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu. Select Restart from the Apple menu.
Reinstall the 10.9.2 update: OS X Mavericks 10.9.2 Update (Combo).
    4. Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks: Reboot from the Recovery HD. Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks from the Utilities menu, and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.
Reinstall the 10.9.2 update: OS X Mavericks 10.9.2 Update (Combo).
