T61 Blue Screen

If it doesn't rain it pours. 6 months with no issue and now three in a week. I was performing a scan with AVG 8.5 when the laptop blue screened. The error was
stop 0x000000024 (0x001902FE,0xBA51F8F4,OXBA51F5F0,0XB9D7FB7F)
AT B9D26000,Datestamp 48025be5
I really am scarred of doing anything else with the laptop. I have all my work on it and although the advise was to perform a chkdsk /f on the hard drive I wanted to check what the problem might be based on the error message before I did anything. My information is too valuable. So I guess a complete back up may be required first. If I do this first can you advise what next based on the error message. Thanks.

Hi flambo,
Welcome to the Lenovo forum
Sorry to hear about the trouble you're having.
Your instinct is correct, you should definitely back up your data! I'll recommend backing up to a 2.5" external USB hard drive, if you don't already have one. Your personal data are by far the most important stuff to back up, you can simply drag-copy them over from your ThinkPad's hard drive to the external drive. After that, you could also back up your entire system by using Rescue and Recovery, although I prefer Acronis True Image for the task (faster). To each their own, both will work.
As you've probably been told a thousand times, it's important to back up your data regularly, all the time. You're probably more a believer now that you're having problems
Anyway: *after* you've backed up your data, then it's time to try to figure out what's causing your blue screens. Have you changed anything recently? Added RAM? Installed new software? The latest change is your first suspect.
If nothing jumps out at you (or even if it does), I'd recommend starting by running some hardware diagnostics. You can download the PC Doctor boot CD from the Lenovo support site. Boot that and run all the tests. For a more thorough check of your RAM, you can boot the memtest86+ CD and let the tests run through at least one complete cycle, or even overnight. If everything passes so far, you can check your hard drive by running the "extended tests" of the hard drive utility from your drive manufacturer. The various utilities are conveniently collected on a single CD: Ultimate Boot CD.
If all of the above tests pass, you can be pretty sure that your hardware is OK, and that you have a software problem. Go ahead a run the chkdsk as suggested, to fix any errors in your filesystem. And then start looking more carefully at any software updates you've recently applied.
Good luck! Please let us know how it goes...

  • T61 - Blue screen error message (nv4_disp) - Now computer won't even start!

Hi I have a Lenovo T61 (Type: 7662-CTO) Windows XP.
A couple days ago, all of sudden my screen turned in a yellowish hue, started flickering intensely and froze; I had to manually shut it off (by pushing the power button).
Next day, I started my computer and it worked fine until I had the exact same flickering and freezing issue, but this time, the screen didn't turn in a yellowish hue. Once again, I manually shut it off and went to bed.
This morning, however, when I started my computer, my screen went totally blank, though I could hear my computer running. I hooked it up to my TV to see if anything comes up and that's when I got this blue screen of error message.
    It says:
     ================================================================================
Problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.
Problem seems to be caused by the following file: nv4_disp
If this is the first time you’ve seen this stop error screen, restart your computer.
If this screen appears again, follow these steps:
The device driver got stuck in an infinite loop. This usually indicates problem with the device itself or with the device driver programming the hardware incorrectly.
Please check with your hardware device vendor for any driver updates.

    physical memory dump complete.
contact your system administrator or technical support group for further assistance.
    ==================================================================================
It would show this blue screen very briefly and rebooted by itself (without letting me log in windows), so I had to once again manually shut it off.
I thought perhaps cleaning a fan might help, so I opened up my laptop, cleaned the fan, keyboard, palm rest etc and assembled it back together.
When I turned on my computer, now I'm getting NOTHING. Not even a blue screen. Computer would start, but very briefly after (just a few seconds after), it would just shut it off by itself.
Someone please tell me what's wrong with my computer and if I can revive it at all.
Also, would you recommend me to bring it to the local Lenovo repair center (http://bplocator.lenovo.com/)?
Thanks so much for reading a long message.

You can find the latest driver for your system here. Another option would be to run ThinkVantage System Update, which is hopefully on your system, if not you can find it here.
I'm not saying this is the solution or ruling out a hardware problem, (which the flickering suggests), but it's a good place to start

  • Help!!! T61 Blue Screen--unmountable boot volume-- error code 0000: Read verification failed

My computer is T61 (8891CT), but Blue Screen came out and reported--unmountable boot volume.  I ran the diagnostic program and got the error code 0000: Read verification failed. I can’t run anything now including the restore and rescue.  Has the hard drive died?
If the hard drive has died, I have to change the hard drive, but how to transfer the system (I don’t have any CD) and think vantage software? Thank you very much for you help.

    Hi equalefk,
Yes, definitely sounds like it's time to replace the HDD.

  • T61- Blue Screen - - reporting unmountable boot volume

    Hi,
I recently updated my T61 with the usual updates, but accidentally unpluged my computer before the updates were complete.  My computer was running on AC adapter alone because my battery was dead.  Now I have a new battery and when I turn my computer on it tells me that it was not shut down properly, but windows will be starting.  The start screen for windows XP shows up and after a few mins. the blue screen pops up and says something about unmountable boot volume.  I don't want to recover/resart my computer because I will lose data.  Can anyone help with this problem?
    Thanks!!!!

No this process should not lose your data. If you can boot your machine from CD or otherwise you might be able to access the hard drive and transfer your data to a flash drive. I'll look for a better explanation on getting your machine to boot. Unless someone here might help with that.

  • Tips for blue screen (BSOD) errors with Windows Vista and Intel Turbo Memory on T61/T61p

Important note: The symptoms and solutions described below address only a small subset of the possible causes for blue screen errors, aka BSOD. This information can help address blue screen errors specifically related to Turbo Memory, but may not solve errors related to other issues. Please read through the instructions completely, make sure they apply to your system, and after attempting the solutions please post back with your feedback for the community.
Some users may experience random blue screen errors with ThinkPad
systems running Windows Vista with Intel Turbo Memory hardware. These
blue screens may occur during normal usage on the system or they may
occur when booting into Windows Vista. Blue screens related to the
Intel Turbo Memory hardware may reference a stop code of 8086 with
    memory address locations of {0, 0, 0, 0}.
There are two main steps that you can take to help resolve blue screen issues related to Intel Turbo Memory.
Step 1: Update Intel Turbo Memory Driver
If the driver version is before version 1.0.1.1004-7.0.3.1001, please
    update to this version.
To determine what version of the Intel Turbo Memory driver is installed:
    1.    Click Start, then click Control Panel.
    2.    Click System and Maintenance.
    3.    Click System.
    4.    Click Device Manager.
    5.    Expand the Storage controllers category.
    6.    Double-click Intel Flash Cache Logic Chip.
    7.    Click the Driver tab. Then you will see the driver version (for example, 1.0.1.1004).
The new driver and installation instructions can be found here.
Note: The Intel Matrix Storage Driver is updated with this package.
    Step 2: BIOS version
If your BIOS version is older than those listed below, please update to the version listed.
How to check your BIOS version:
    Turn off the system.
    Turn on the system.
While the To interrupt normal startup, press the blue ThinkVantage button message is displayed at the lower-left area of the screen, press the F1 key.
    The
BIOS Setup Utility menu will be displayed. If you have set a supervisor
password, the BIOS Setup Utility menu appears after you enter the
    password.
Check BIOS Version and Embedded Controller Version.
    Turn off the system.
    System BIOS versions:
    ThinkPad T61/T61p (14.1 inch widescreen with IEEE 1394 model) - BIOS version 1.22 (7LET52WW)
    Please
remember that these updates do not solve every possible system blue
screen, but they do resolve several problems related to the Intel Turbo
    Memory driver.

    Thanks Tim,
I do have my T61p fully up-to-date to the latest drivers and updates (via System Update and the Drivers&Software web page when the former is not that up-to-date).
At the moment the most recurrent problem is this:
    http://forum.lenovo.com/lnv/board/message?board.id=T_Series_Thinkpads&thread.id=55
which has been longly speculated here:
    http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?t=47755
My other angst is the boot-time chkdsk hang-up problem:
    http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?t=52765&highlight=chkdsk
I just wonder if this purely a Vista issue when using NV cache, the disk spinning down at almost exactly 1 hour from the beginning of the chdsk operation seems too much of a coincidence.
    This is my T61p configuration:
    Intel Core 2 Duo T7700 2.4GHz
    BIOS version 1.26-1.06
    4GB RAM 2 SO-DIMMs
nVidia Quadro FX 570m with 512MB VRAM
    WUXGA LCD
    Seagate 7200.2 160 GB
    4GB RAM 2 SO-DIMMs
Windows Vista Ultimate 32bit (waiting to move to 64bit)

  • T61 DVD causes a blue screen crash

My T61 with a Mat**bleep**a DVD-RAM UJ-862 causes a blue screen crash when I put a blank, unformated disk in the drive.  A pre-recorded video or audio disk will play but a blank disk causes a crash.

No it really doesn't "go to sleep." It doesn't seem to me to be "the monitor," I think this is strickly happening with the computer that incidentley happens to be connected to a monitor. My simple take anyway.

When I logged in, the system starts fine but when I run rescue n recovery option from thinkvantage button , the laptop restarts and then all errors shown. Like "c_1252.nls" file is missing or corrupted. This is the first messege I got while booting. Then I booted with F11 for rescue n recovery. I recovered file c_1252.nls from backup folder on harddrive. But when i restarted again the new c_0437.nls shown missing and this i got so many times after each n every rescue n recovery options. Then I again rescued all the files in system32 folder and restarted my laptop. Which restarts good uptill it asked for domain password . But when i clicked to enter the password the error messege shown " Diskeeper not present" and subsequently "SQL server is disturbed" like that . But the login successful and when the desktop arises the windows intstaller window shows but no further processing even i waited for 15 min. And above all  I lost all my data saved in one n only drive that the LENEVO provided with OS.  NO partiton. PL. suggest any solution this . Is it possible to recover my data since I didnt make any backup ?

  • Blue screen error on resume, Sandisk U3 suspected

Hi all, I have a T61 running WinXP. I've noticed that whenever the machine goes into hibernation with my flash drive inserted it crashes with a blue screen error on resumption. The drive i a sandisk cruzer with u3. Wondering if anyone has experience with this or knows of a solution - uninstalling u3 is not ideal.
[updated 2008-11-04] I've done some quick tests to try to isolate what's causing the problem. I tried another flash drive (with u3) and the same problem occurred. However when I disable the u3 launcher the problem does not occur.
    Thanks!

So long you use ATI driver from ATI support page there is no possibility to say anything about it.
This driver is not tested and Toshiba cannot offer any help about it.
So what you can do is to install OS again using recovery media and see what will happen in the future. Please test it intensively with clean preinstalled operating system. Don't install anything that can have some negative influence to this game or additional applications, codecs or something similar.
Test it please and let us know if the problem persists.
When you want to watch movies on TV at first switch to the TV and then start DVD player.

  • Importing from DVD to iTunes 7 on Windows XP -- blue screen crash?!?

    Hi,
I'm trying to import a DVD of music I burned from my iTunes library on my iMac to a Windows XP laptop. The first disc burned just fine, but the second one crashed with a blue screen error (though it flashed by too quickly to get the particulars). After re-booting, when I open iTunes, it continues to rip the DVD just fine. Until I insert the next DVD, when the same thing happens all over again.
I have already authorized the windows machine with my iTunes password. The iMac is an intel core duo running OS 10.4 and the laptop is a T61 Thinkpad dual core processor (2.4gHz?) with Windows XP and 4 gigs of RAM.
Does anyone know what is going on or what I need to do to fix it?
