T61 Wireless Radio Problems

Hi,
I recently attempted to install a new webcam on my Lenovo Thinkpad.  As soon as I plugged the cam into a usb port I got disconnected from the internet and upon trying to reconnect I received a message saying the wireless radio was not powered on even though it was.  I have tried turning it off and on again, running virus scans, registry scans, and PC doctor but nothing seems to fix the problem.  I'm not even entirely sure that this problem is related to the webcam at all.  Can anybody help me fix this issue?

I know the frustration:  check this thread........hope you find something that works.........

  • Windows 7 64 bit has problems with Actiontec MI424WR while wired with wireless radio off

I have discovered an issue with Windows 7 64 bit OS.  My attempted set up was to havea 802.11n Belkin Play router connected to my Actiontec MI424WR router as a wireless access point with the MI424WR wireless radio turned off.  This worked fine for my XP 32 bit PC, my Windows 7 32 bit PC, and my 2 Windows 7 64 bit laptops using wireless.  A problem arose when I tried wired connections on the Windows 7 64 bit laptops and a Windows 7 64 bit PC.
While wired, internet would drop either completely or intermittently but too frequently to be useful.  Tech support had no idea what to do or what caused it.  It was reproducible after a reset of the router and then turning off the wireless radio.
I could fix it by turning on the wireless radio again, but I had hoped to turn it off and only use wireless from the 802.11n router.
    Any ideas?
    Brian

Did you disconnect wireless on the 2 Windows 7 64 bit machines while testing wired?
What is the connection between the Actiontec and the Belkin?  LAN-to-WAN or LAN-to-LAN?
If the connection is LAN-to_LAN, the wireless connection on each machine would have obtained a DHCP address from the Actiontec.  When you connected wired, you would have gotten a new IP address based on the different MAC address of the wired NIC, resulting in the machine having 2 IP addresses.  This may not be readily apparent on the Actiontec main status page as the second connection will get a generated name of "new-host-xx" (the router can't reuse the same PC name for 2 different IP addresses).  Windows should be able to keep the two connections on the same subnet straight, but I've seen WIndows do stranger things.
If the connection is LAN-to-WAN, the Belkin must have a different subnet address than the Actiontec (e.g.. 192.168.2.x).  Now, if you connect both wired to the Actiontec (192.168.1.x) and wireless via the Belkin (192.168.2.x), Windows is going to have connections to two different subnets with two different gateway routers. Without explicit routing rules, Windows won't know which gateway to use.

  • T61 - Intell 4965AGN - Wireless radio is powered off

I am getting to wits end trying to get my wifi connection to work.  I NEED HELP!!!
I just purchased a Lenovo T61.  It came with Vista which I despise!!!!  So I decided to install XP.  I didn't want to eliminate Vista since I develop programs for windows and want to keep Vista around for testing purposes.  I partitioned the hard drive and installed Windows XP Pro SP2.   After about 3 weeks of research and installs, un-installs and re-installs and then finally getting ThinkVantage Update installed and letting it get everything updated I think I have a pretty good setup.  Except for the wifi adapter.
The computer came with the two LAN connections.  A gigabit adapter for wired connections and an Intell 4965AGN wifi adapter.  I am using ThinkVantage Access Connections.  I prefer to keep this because I use the laptop at home, work and on the road.  Access Connections gives me the capability to save a separate IP configuration for each location.  That is worth a lot.
The wifi switch on the front of the T61 is switched on.  If I bring up Fn-F5 it shows the "Hardware Wireless Radio Switch" as ON.
I am able to get the gigabit connection to work without issue.  But I can't get the wifi adapter to work.  If I bring it up on Device Manager I see the 4965AGN under Network Devices.  If I bring up the Properties dialog it shows "Wireless On" on the Advanced tab and the Driver tab lists a driver version 11.5.0.36 dated 11/27/2007.  The toolbar shows the wifi icon with a red X showing that it is not connected.  If I click on "View Wireless Connections" I get the message that Windows cannot manage that wireless connection.
So I start Access Connections and start setting up a new wireless connection.  I identify the connection as wireless and move to the second page titled "Enter wireless network configuration:".  I give it an SSID and click on "Find Network".  I immediately get a pop-up stating "The wireless radio is powered off.  Do you want to power it on?".  I click on "Yes" and that dialog goes away.  But nothing on the entry page changes.  None of the drop downs are populated.  If I click on "Find Network" again I get the same message.
I have tried re-loading the wifi drivers from the Lenovo web page with no change.  How can I fix this?

I think I have a solution to this. It worked for me. I wandered into this forum and found people with the same issues. I have just fixed my R61i. It was a Vista which I downgraded to an XP ( it was doing my head in)..
Everything went well, apart from the wireless not showing in access... it worked, but only outside. I too LOVE the access program.
This is how I fixed it..
    I went here
    http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?sitestyle=lenovo&lndocid=MIGR-62875
I then downloaded the patch and installed it. I was curious in that the "Intel Proset Wireless Software was NOT in my program list (under Add/Remove Software)
I ran the install (its clear in the instructions where to find it) page 3 under Manual install.
I restarted and ping... up came a new icon, and gone was the initial freeze at startup time (which was happening every now and again)
I love my R61i. I love it even better now it works under XP and works with access. Although Mine is an R61i  A lot of T models are listed at the top of the solution. Print off the  full text and read it whilst you work through.. Good Luck
I have registered just to pass this on because a few of you above seemed stumped, just like I was.

  • T61 Wireless Shuts Off

I bought it a year ago, and about a month ago the wireless radio shuts off, and will not turn back on, even when I use the switch, or go into the Netwwork Connections and tell it to enable the wireless radio. I have tried downloading new drivers, and updating the Access Connection center. Also have tried making the wireless the main choice with in the Access Connections, but it will not save the changes, and chooses the LAN line. I think the computer "stops" using the wireless, shuts it off, and then tries to use the LAN line, which is not connected.
Has anyone else had this problem?
    Thanks.

PROBLEM: My T61 is about 1.5yrs old and the wireless also started crashing about 1mo ago...when it does crash, right clicking the wireless icon (in system tray) and choosing the 'Diagnose and repair' function does not fix the problem...in fact, most times when the wireless crashes, the wireless icon is not selectable (and if i try to right click it, this causes the whole system to hang)..none of the other menu driven solutions fix the problem (if anything, it crashes the computer)...it also cannot be fixed by physically cycling the off/on switch for the wireless...a wireless crash can only be temporarily fixed by fully rebooting...however, sometimes after a reboot following a wireless crash, the whole system will crash, i.e., yesterday during reboot i got a BLACK screen of death (not the typical BlueSOD, instead the LCD lost power) and it hung for an eternity (i could here the drive and fan running) so i had to unplug the power cord and battery to reset things...none of this  crashing during reboot BS ever happened until yesterday after using ThinkVantage System Update.
SETUP: running Vista Business with SP1, 2gb ram, sometimes 4gb of ReadyBoost is used but not since having the wireless problem...no other problem with this T61 except USB 2.0 performance is pitiful (a well known Vista problem)...no virus or adware/spyware detected during recent scans.
UPGRADES:  Until yesterday, i avoided updating my T61 using ThinkVantage System Update because the updates seemed to be a waste of space and often degraded performance and/or caused real problems...and because the ThinkVantage suite, as a whole, seems to slow down Vista (it's so much slower than XP Pro), I had uninstalled or deactivated as much of the ThinkVantage suite as possible.
Therefore, as i hadn't installed any ThinkVantage updates in over a year, i can say with 99% confidence the wireless problem is due to a Vista or IE7 updates...the 1% unconfidence could point to a update/upgrade to Firefox 3.x which maybe took place around similar time the wireless started going bad (Anyone suspect problems with FF3.0 on T61???).
Due to the wireless card problem, i decided to install all available upgrades using the ThinkVantage System Update yesterday and it didn't fix anything...in fact, i'd say the wireless card now crashes more often (i've had to reboot 6-8 times since yesterday).
ALSO the PowerManager crashed on start up even though it's worked flawlessly for 1.5yrs...so i'd say PowerManager 2.37 should be avoided. Yes...i tried to uninstall, reboot, and reinstall PM 2.37 but it still crashes.
If it matters to any techies, during yesterday's upgrade, i included the most recent BIOS upgrade (i can't remember the version)...who knows what problems this is causing.
    Solutions?

  • Photosmart c309a- 'The wireless radio is not functioning, contact HP support'

My Photosmart c309a wont connect wirelessly. Upon running the wireless network test, the report states, and I quote "The wireless radio is not functioning. Contact HP support". The report then states the following:
    Wireless on                    PASS
    Wireless working         FAIL
and everything following that stated as 'not run'.
Ive searched for other threads on the subject, and the only sloutions I can find are unplug the printer and plug it back in to reset it (made no difference), and try the HP print and san doctor (link was dead, found it manually and didnt work as it cant connect to or even see the printer on the network).
So the question is, is this a hardware fault, and if so what can be done about it?

    Hello,
Yes, it is an hardware issue and indicates that the Wireless card is not functional.
Please call HP Tech Support for further assistance.
If you are in US , the toll free # is 1-800-474-6836 .
If you are not in US , then log on to www.hp.com , at bottom-left corner there is a world map icon, click on it and then select the region you belong to, which would then provide support options for you for that region.

  • Wireless radio is not functioning

I keep getting the message wireless radio not functioning on a C309a.  I have tried all the suggestions that are posted.. Is there any other way to fix wireless radio.  I was on the phone with HP for 3.5 hours tiring to resolve the issue and nothing was resolved.. My printer is just out of warranty.   Is there anything else that can be done or is the printer used wirelessly junk? I am able to connect thru USB for now.. but really need my wireless to work.  Can anyone help Please!!

Mine too!  I also have a C309A printer and have spent over 2 hours on line with HP trying to fix the problem and for a moment it was fixed.  But then the next day, it wouldn't work again so I ran a wireless test and it said the wireless radio is not working.  This would mean that the radio installed in these printers are junk and need to be replaced.  I would suggest you fight "city hall" by sending your complaint to upper managment.  The last thing they want is bad publicity, trust me I know.
Don't waste your time, I tried it....they could care less about bad publicity....all I got out of it was a headache from the phone conversations and now having my posts deleted.  They insist this is not a recurring problem and have gone so far as to say that wireless radio failures are RARE!!!!!!!

  • Wireless radio is not functioning - Photosmart c4599 All-in-one

I have had my printer connected to my home wireless network.  The printer stopped working.  When I run the wireless network test report it says "The wireless radio is not functioning.  Contact HP Support.  According to the HP web site, the printer is out of warranty.  Is there anything I can do to get the wireless working again via a hard reset or is this something a technician will need to fix?  If out of warranty, is the cost to fix really worth it?

If this message is appearing on the Front Panel of the printer, then it is an indication of a hardware problem that has developed.
It sounds like the wireless card has gone bad in the printer and this is not something that a reset would be able to address.
If the printer is out of warranty, then your best option is to replace the printer. HP Tech Support has many options available to you, such as the Upgrade program.

  • Wireless Radio is not functioning on Photosmart C309a

VERY FRUSTRATED right now....I've read similar posts about this and wonder if there is a significant flaw with the wireless radio in this model that HP will not acknowledge....
I've got a 13 month-old (Still shiny new) Photosmart C309a that is just past the warranty date.  It really hasn't been used much at all -- just basic household use.  I am totally kicking myself since we started having problems with the wireless network disconnecting about 3-4 months ago (when it was still under warranty).  It was a sporadic issue, and I was always able to do a reconnect by doing a combination of unplugging it and then using the "Wireless Setup Wizard" to reconnect.  Now it cannot find the wireless network at all.  The Wireless Radio is "on" and when I run the Wireless Network Test I now get "The Wireless Radio is not Functioning.  Contact HP Support".  My wireless network seems to be working just fine for everything else, so I truly think this is a printer problem.
Anyhow, because it is just past warranty, we have called HP support twice and have not gotten much help either time.  They do not seem to care and tell you they will have to charge you for the help?!?
Am I supposed to replace a perfectly good printer since the wireless doesn't seem to connect?   Is there another way to fix this?  Is there a way to just replace the wireless radio and not the whole printer (and is that advisable)?
I would greatly appreciate any help!

This seems to be an issue with HP wireless printers. The Photosmart C309a is my second all in one in 5 years. Same as many others, my wireless went dead 13 months after purchase with very light home use. Last one had wireless go dead same way and had to use it wired to the network for 4 years.(except for wireless, old printer still works fine, had to upgrade for Windows 7)
Seems HP should correct this issue or at least quit advertising wireless printers when the wireless dies and cannot be fixed.
No one should have to purchase a new all in one printer to have wireless when everything works except the wireless after the first year. The printers cost way too much for cheap wireless with a short lifespan. If HP does not do a recall on these printers for the wireless, I'm going to purchase a different name brand next time... Starting to look up reviews now on other printers.

  • Can't detect or connect to my wireless network - Diagnostics says wireless radio is not functioning.

Couldn't print; computer said printer was not connected.  Tried to reconnect to wireless network, couldn't connect.  Ran the Wireless Network Test Report, which said "the wireless radio is not functioning.  Contact HP support."

Follow the instructions in the manual to reset the printer back to Factory Defaults. Now check the wireless radio status again. If the same, use the front panel to navigate and attempt to enable the wireless radio. Again, check the status after. If it still says it is not functioning, the wireless radio is indeed defective.

  • Officejet pro 8500A wireless radio is not functioning

Have an OfficeJet Pro 8500A.  Wireless connection stopped working.  Tried restarting printer, router, and computer per troubleshooting suggestions in manual.  No joy.  Wireless Network Test Report gives a 'Wireless Working' status of 'FAIL'. Troubleshooting results at top of report says "The wireless radio is not functioning. Contact HP Support."
I found a solution to this problem in the forum for a C7280.  It is to reset the printer by turning it off, and holding the # and 6 keys while and a bit after turning it on.  Later on, there is a comment by another user saying the reset solution also works for the Officejet 8500.
O.K. so I'd like to try reseting my printer, but don't know how to do it.  There are no "keys" on this model.  I've searched through the user guide (searched on the term 'reset' in the PDF version) with no results.  Can anyone help by either telling me how to use the reset feature on the OfficeJet Pro 8500A, or another solution to the wireless radio not functioning problem that I can try?
    Thanks,

Thank you for your suggestions.  I appreciate your help.
I had previously verified that the wireless radio was on.  The wireless radio test report confirmed it was on.
I had not used the network settings reset function as I was focused on looking for a "printer reset" capability.  Based on your suggestion I used the network settings reset and then printed the HP Network Configuration Page.  This confirmed the settings had been reset.  However this test also checks for all available 802.11 networks.  The report shows the number of networks discovered as 0.  Based on this, I'm assuming the wireless is still not working.

  • "Wireless Radio is not Functioning" when Diagnostic Tool is run

I recently unplugged my HP Photosmart Premium C309a and relocated it to a new shelf beside my main computer.  Wireless networking worked just fine before the move, and now it won't detect any networks to connect to.  I've run the Wireless Network Test Report and it says "Wireless Radio is not functioning.  Contact HP support."  Is there anything I can do from here to help fix this problem, or do I have to pay for Repair Service somewhere?  I would like to believe that this HP product can withstand more than a simple move from one shelf to another....
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
*Note* I know for sure my network is working properly (since I'm connected to it right now...).  My computer detects my network as well as a number of others in the neighborhood.

Is the printer still under warranty?  If not, yes you can have it repaired, but it may cost nearly what a new printer costs.  Here is how to contact HP.
Your printer should be able to work with USB and it should also be able to be connected to your router with an Ethernet cable.

  • "The Wireless Radio Is Not Functioning" - LaserJet 200 M251nw

I have had this LaserJet printer for a couple of weeks now and recently it started giving me a number of different errors. It was displaying the 79 Error  and i was attempting to figure out why it won't connect to any network when it started hanging up entirely when trying to find networks. i printed out the test report and it says that "The wireless radio is not functioning. Contact HP support."Is this something that can be fixed easily?

Please reset the printer back to factory defaults.
    1. From the Home screen on the product control panel, touch the Setup button.
    2. Scroll to and touch the Service menu.
    3. Scroll to and touch the Restore Defaults button, and then touch the OK button.
    The product automatically restarts.
Now check again to see if the wireless radio is non functional.   If yes then I suspect the wireless radio has failed.  However there is a possible fix, go here:
Connect wireless printer anywhere, convert from wired, bypass failed radio, add WPA2 security.
