T61p - Vista ultimate

Has anybody already upgraded to Vista SP1 ? Does it occurs by windows update, or is the user expected to download the sp1 pack and install it. I read this on ms web site http://technet2.microsoft.com/WindowsVista/en/library/85cd5efe-c349-427c-b035-c2719d4af7781033.mspx?...
It has not happened so far with the t61p

Hi,
as far as I can remmeber, this kind of issue mostly happens, when you captured the backups using a different version of RnR, then you currently try to restore. The basis is , that you need to use the very same version of RnR by restore, as by the backup capture.
In case this is not your situation, I assume, this might be a situation of a corrupted backup files.

Oh Herik!
That does not sound nice! Anyway, I have used the very same version of RnR, so whether the backup is corrupted!? Well, now it has completed 80% of the restore. Somehow if the backup is corrupted, that might be the reason for the restore to take so long. Has Lenovo documented that you need to use the very same version of RnR? - meaning that you need to restart your backup with a total system backup after RnR upgrade?
Anyway, maybe the best idea after I have made the system running again - I should move all the backup files (incl. the corrupt one[s]) to another USB disk and then start with a total system backup. After that I may run my normal backup routine. Doesn't it sound correct?
I have updated my first original text in this thread. Please look at the top.

  • T61p + Vista ultimate = Will not let applications access internet. Please help

Hey all, new here. However, I've owned an R40 IBM Thinkpad before I've upgraded to this T61p for college. I absolutely LOVE this laptop, apart from the issue I am experiencing at hand.
My system specs, incase it is of concern
    Windows Vista Ultimate 32bit
    4GB RAM
    200GB 7200RPM (encrypted) drive
    Nvidia 570m GPU
    Intel  T9300 2.5 ghz 6mb L2 cache
    here's what I'm going through...
All sorts of applications that require access to the net are getting hung up, and idicating that they cannot connect to the server's they are pointed to for updates. Examples include, AVG antivirus, Punkbuster (Anti-cheat software that runs in the background of online games...always updating) and these are the only apps I have that require internet access so far.
I can browse using Firefox and Internet Explorer no problem.
The punkbuster is especially frustrating because just about ALL games and ALL servers use it, and if punkbuster doesn't update, you get kicked out of the game.
I am convinced it is Vista as I've never had the sort of problem with XP, and it is two different applications experiencing the problem.
I am accessing wireless through a router with the necessary ports I need open for this software, and I am running Comodo Firewall in learning mode. However, even if I disable Comodo altogether i get the same symptoms.
Any help would be much appreciated

    OK, two things:
ON your BlackBerry, go to Options > Advanced > Browser.
Set that to HOTSPOT and save.
Now, connected to a WiFi router, open the internet browser on the BlackBerry try going to mobile.blackberry.com
    Does it work?
Also, Do you have a BlackBerry Data Plan enabled on your account with your carrier or mobile provider?
You must, in order to get the RIM push email functions you are looking for, as well as addtional BlackBerry data services such as the mobile network internet browser, Facebook for BlackBerry, BlackBerry Messenger, and much more.
So, call your carrier and inquire about having the BlackBerry Data Plan added to your account.
    Good luck.

  • Dual boot T61p -Vista Ultimate // Linux

Has anybody configured a T61p with a dual boot Vista U & Linux Ubuntu ? Is it feasable ? Does it work and what are the things to avoid / take care ?
    Regards

hello scott welcome to the forums!
if you want to restore your pc using R&R i guess it may be impossible for you to use all the paritions without wiping them clean..you cannot install a dual boot system(usually) if you re-format it again..its fine if you are using vista you can resize and install linux but the better option for you is to use acronis true image utility it should work great on all your partitions(all of them will be imaged)
    Cheers and regards,

  • HELP! T61P/Vista Ultimate - rejuvination halts at least 6 h. at 0% trying to restore the system

Now I am really tired as I have tried to reinjuvinate my T61P. R&R succeeds in completing the backup procedure as the first step of the rejuvínation of my laptop but step 2 which is the restore of the system from a previous backup simply halts at 0% completion and after wating for 6 hours without any visible change I gave up.
Therefore, now I have initiated the system restore manually from my Aug. 2nd backup and then I have to restore my data from the rejuvination backup piece by piece. Sigh!
Can anyone explain the reason for my troubles and maybe a work around if it happens again?
    Kind regards
    Per
PS!  This is written on a tiny Acer laptop as my T61P is still restoring.
    ************* Later:
I got up too early this morning and by accident!  ;-)    Well, it was at 5 a.m. today I could recognize that the restore of the primo August had completed. Then I launched the restore of my actual data and that's appr, 40 GB - and then I went to bed again.
At 8 a.m. I got up for good and saw that the R&R had reached a 34% completion. It seems that there is no activity on the USB disk from where the data is restored and on T61P the green disk led only lights with a very little flickering. Now I am afraid that the restore has stopped again. Why should it take that long (more than 3 hours) to restore appr. 40 GB and why do the activities seem to have stopped?
For how long should I be patient - and what is my alternative?
    ******** Later:
Now, the USB disk is alive againg but for how long? The completion percentage is still 34%.   OK, I will wait a little more!
    .... waiting .... waiting ...
     - and 90 min. later: it shows 37%.  HELP ME!!
If it continues at this speed then the process will last for at least additional 30 hours!!
    ********* a little later:
    It has reached 43% completion.
I realize that I forgot to tell you that I launched the restore from the R&R screen after botting and pressing the blue button - ssimply to avoid that any files would be locked by another process. Should I have done it otherwise?
     ********* Later:
At 55% completion it has stopped again - apparantly. Why must it take that long? Is there any better way to manage my current backups?
    ********** 12 a.m. Aug. 18th.
7 hours after launcing the restore of my data it says 58% completion. I do miss access to my T61P!
     ********* 1 p.m. Aug. 18th
    77% completion
    ********* 2:45 p.m. Aug. 18th
    87% completion
    ********* 5 p.m. Aug. 18th
100% completed ....BUT!  ... then it started a new restore procedure and as it had reached 9% completion I got too tired and interrupted it.  Now I have started a manual restore almost file by file in a prioritized way - so, those files I need now should be restored first. It is very time consuming but I can see no other way.
I think that Lenovo must emphasize as soon as you try to implement a new version of RnR that your previous backups might be obsolete - meaning that then you need to restart by running a new total system backup.
A question to Lenovo could be: Should I move / remove my old backups before I run the new total system backup after upgrading my RnR????

  • Ghost taskbar in Vista Ultimate x64 after undocking T61p with external displays

I use my T61p with the advanced docking station and two external monitors (DVI + VGA).
Frequently when I undock, my taskbar becomes a ghost, in that I only can see a small line that comes up (I have it in autohide) yet totally transparent. No content. I can get it to come back by "killing"  the explorer task, and restarting that manually. Yet this erases the power manager part of the lenovo tools in the taskbar.
Anyone any idea why this would be happening?
I do press the undock button, and wait for the "undock complete" message before I physically take it out of the dock.
I have tried to find a reproducable sequence, but have not found any. It does not do it all the time. Just occasionally.
I guess it must be some driver issue, but was wondering if anyone has seen the same.

could this problem be related to the graphics BSOD and Computer Shutoffs we are see-ing in T61p's?
have you tried running any games like Bioshock, Crisis or Call of Duty 4 ?   The demo versions would be enough to tell if its the same thing.
also are both RAM slots used for your memory ?

what would be interesting is this is the first time I'm hearing it crash when using video in Skype.  I suppose not many persons make video calls.

  • BSOD running Skype Video Calls on a T61p under Vista Ultimate x64

Is anyone else experiencing BSOD crashes while running a Video Call on Skype on a T61p running under 64bit Vista?
I have a 15.4" T61p, with the 570M Nvidia card, Intel Turbo Memory, and 4GB ram... the only time my machine experiences a BSOD crash is when in a video call in Skype.  I have tried this with two different video camera (a MS lifecam and a Logitech Quickcam) with all the latest drivers.  I have a suspicion it is some interaction between the audio drivers and Skype that may be causing the crashes... but can't be certain.  Sometimes it crashes after a couple of minutes, sometimes an hour into the call.

  • Vista Ultimate 64 on T61p

I received my T61p this week, and was dissapointed that it did not come with the Vista Ultimate 64 DVD. I've read on the forums and around the internet that peope upgraded to 64, but I want to make sure I won't lose anything. Is there anything on the T61p that won't work once I switch to the 64-bit OS?

Thanks to you and also Bananaman for the suggestions.  Unfortunately, they don't seem to work.
I already have Vista SP2 installed, and that does not seem to help this problem, which began while I was still on running SP1.
I have also installed the latest Hotkey Utility (versions 2.20.0001) and Power Management Driver (version 1.53), but still receive the same error when trying to install the most recent Power Manager (version 2.50):
    "Cannot run on this system".
I would love to try TVSU (even though my troubles started after an automated update, which admittedly may only be coincidence).  However, I have a 64-bit operating system, which the latest TVSU (version 3.14) does not support.
Could the problem be that something in my .NET Framework files is corrupted?  I'm really fishing now.

  • Power Manager 4.42 Not Working T61p Vista 64-bit

ThinkVantage Power Manager is not working on my machine.  I first noticed this after System Update added several new ThinkVantage programs, including PM version 4.41a several weeks ago, but I can't point with any certainty a specific cause or beginning to the problem.
PM now stops working every time during initial (power-on) machine boot-up showing message: "Power Manager Stopped Working".  This seems to happen whenver it is installed by system update.  When I have tried installing PM manually, it simply refuses to install, giving a short message saying it cannot run on my system.  Earlier versions ran OK before.  Microsoft Problem Reports and Solutions is of course clueless about this (and most other crashes).
I have tried uninstalling, rebooting, and reinstalling both PM and the latest PM driver in several different sequences, but nothing seems to work.  I was hopeful that a recent upgrade to PM version 4.42 (via System Update) might solve the problem, but same thing happens and manually installation still doesn't work.  I also uninstalling Access Connections (which has given me other problems), rebooted, and tried loading both PM and PM Driver, but with the same results.  Something funny going on...
I have ThinkPad 61p (6459-CTO) with 4GB RAM, running Vista Ultimate 64-bit with NIS 2009.  I have installed the most recent BIOS and have other up-to-date Lenovo software via System Update.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks

I have tried several more things, including upgrading to Visual C++ 2008 in an attempt to get my system to install TV Power Manager 4.42 (or earlier versions).  I still get the same message when I attempt to install manually: "cannot run on this system". Same thing happens when trying to load an older version 4.20a that I found through the forum.
I have been successful in loading the version that came pre-installed on my computer (found in SWTools folder), and that seems to work, though with very basic functionality.  It appears to be Version 2.11.
I would really like to find a way to install a newer version (preferably 4.42), as it seems this is needed to run later versions of other TV software.  I have T61p (6459-CTO) running Vista Ultimate 64-bit, and the BIOS and drivers are all up to date, as per Lenovo site.
    Thanks for any advice.

  • T61p, Vista and hibernate problems

There are some other threads on the issue, but I didn't see anyone with the exact same problem.
The basics; T61p (6457-5gg) with Windows Vista Ultimate. Latest BIOS and drivers.
    - The sleep-function in Vista ain't possible to use at all.
    - When i choose to hibernate, the systems goes into hibernation, and then wakes up again. I put the system into hibernation and put the pc in my bag. Took it up a couple of hours later and it was extremly hot. It was really uncomfortable to touch the system. Battery had been completly drained.
    - BIOS-settings should be ok. The option for waking to do scheduled tasks is disabled.
Suggestions? I was thinking about a complete reinstall of the system to see what happens then, but I was hoping for a 2 minute fix instead of a days work :-|
    * W520 4284-49G (Upgrades: 256GB Corsair Performance Pro & 256GB OCZ Octane) * T61p (Upgrades: 128GB OCZ Vertex, Wi-Fi Link 6300)

    Hi,
I am having the same issue on my T60 on Windows XP.
I have had major issues with Standby and Hibernation from the beginning (less with Hibernation, so I use that more), but I have had weird issues where hibernating the system while plugged into AC power and waking it up while on battery will cause all kinds of issues to the point where the system will nearly freeze and cannot be shut down normally (this I can reproduce any time).
A friend told me there was a BIOS update that had been released recently - guess what: Since I installed that, I am getting freezes after a fresh reboot within minutes - my external USB mouse will stop working first, then the Start menu button and the content will start losing text (only the icons will show), and at some point it will no longer do anything.
But today all of a sudden out of the blue after showing these signs, I get the mentioned blue screen:
    0x000000A0
    Internal_power_error
    (0x00000101, 0x00000007, 0xBA50507420, 0x00000000)
There appears to be a hotfix for Vista that you can request from Microsoft, but nothing for XP.
I would really like Lenovo to look into this as I am fairly certain there is something in their power management drivers and software that is causing this.
Does anyone have a paid support plan with Lenovo and can ask them about this?

    Hi there,
I upgraded to Windows Vista Ultimate about a month ago. I was trying to play music and download new content and the new content downloads would stop with -42018 - unexpected error.
I had to run the compatability wizard and allow Windows XP SP2 settings with administrator access to correct the issue.
I also lost most of my licensing when I upgraded. Hold off for I-Tunes to work with Vista if you are thinking about upgrading.
And on a side note, I think that the new Windows Media "Experience" in Vista is not all that great.

Can you please help me out.

The chipset driver you can get on the Intel webiste
    www.intel.com
But I think the driver could also be in the display driver because its the same chip.
The WLAN driver I have found on the Toshiba website so download and install it.
The speech system could be integrated in the sound driver.
But download and install all drivers and the system will work.

  • Windows XP Pro (32-bit) and Vista Ultimate (64-bit) on the same Mac Pro HD?

Has anyone been able to install both Windows XP Pro (32-bit) and Windows Vista Ultimate (64-bit) on the same dedicated Windows hard drive? I have four HD in my Mac Pro, and one of them is dedicated for Windows (and bootable via Boot Camp). I found the following technical articles about installing Windows XP & Vista on the same hard drive (using two separate partitions) using a VMWare machine as the test system:

Has anyone successfully installed Windows XP (32-bit) and Vista 64-bit) on the same NTFS partition?
I already have Windows XP Pro (32-bit) SP3 installed on my single NTFS hard drive. I am looking for the best way to add the Vista 64-bit installation on the same hard drive.
Any thoughts and advise are appreciated.

Windows has its own list of boot OSs, and default, from msconfig. It will sit and wait for xx-seconds on startup in Windows if you want to boot from an alternate.
As to whether Apple's OS Switcher (aka startup disk bootcamp control panel or tray icon) sees both, I had Windows Home Premium and Ultimate 64, and pretty sure OS X saw both. That was pre-Leopard and before there were 64-bit Apple drivers.
I can't think of any scenerio of wanting to mix 32-bit and 64-bit on the same paritition, you realize you can't install the one over the other and must do a clean install.
When I added a partition out of main partition (I wanted to put search index and page file on their own partition) those partitions aren't seen - are hidden - to Leopard.
