Tabular form: too many columns

What can I do with too many columns in a tabular form? I tried modifying the report template behind and put </tr><tr> inside column template, but I'm unable to find current's loop column number. This would work if after every 3rd column in a report I could do the </tr><tr> thing.
Substitution string #COLNUM# doesn't work in this particular template field.

Hi "prpi",
What do you want to achieve? Have less columns?
Or see them on the next row?
You can use javascript to show/hide columns. Have a look here: http://htmldb.oracle.com/pls/otn/f?p=11933:46:7060485099466175
Hope that helps,

It is something around 256 if I am not mistaken, I dread to think what a form with 700 columns is like to work with.

    Hi,
I'm Galit from the QE team of VIN.
All the things that you've described are correct.
It is actually an edge case where the only VM, that the manual App can be managed from its Map view, was removed from the App.
The Manual App management is as designed, and may be changed in the future.
There are 2 ways to overcome this situation:
1.You can, as you stated, create another Manual App with similar name and remain with the "Zombie App".
    2. To run a specific command that will remove the Zombie App from the DB.
Please note that option no. 2 involves using an API that we do not publish.
If you would like to use option no. 2 contact me in private and we will see about supplying the relevant commands to run in order to delete the "zombie" application.
    Thanks,

  • Tabular form query using column values delimiter

I wanted to know, if i can query a tabular block by entering the column values (primary key) as semicolon delimited and update required fields. Please let me know.
    Requirement:-
    User will enter 5 values as "AB1; AB2; AB3; AB4; AB5"
After entering I need to write a plsql code to query the tabular form as follows
    PrimaryCol SecCol
    AB1 IN
    AB2 IN
    AB3 OUT
    AB4 IN
    AB5 ON
Then I will update the columns accordingly.
    Please help me.

You could put something like this in the WHERE-clause (assuming that :BLOCK.QUERYDATA contains your value AB1;AB2;AB3;AB4; )
    INSTR (';' || PK_COLUMN || ';', ';' || :BLOCK.QUERYDATA || ';')>0Maybe you have to additionally eliminate space in :BLOCK.QUERYDATA

  • Problem with my tabular form report repeating columns

    hello,
i have a problem like, I have created a tabular form report and I have just copied the page to an another new page in the same application.
once i copied the page to a new page, and when i tried to run the report the columns are repeating. I ahve seen the report attributes, in the new page they were repeating. I am not able to understand what might be the problem.
can anyone plz sort it out this problem.
    thanks.

    hi,
Copy page will never repeat columns anywhere in page ... this s just a suggestion..

  • Bug: 4.1.1 Tabular form with all columns conditional

I need to make all the columns in a tabular form conditional because in some situations the editable elements should not be shown. For some reason just changing the columns to conditional stops the form working, the ApplyMRU/ApplyMRD process runs but does not action the changed rows. I can't figure out why at all or any workaround.
You can easily reproduce this in 4.1.1 by creating a tabular form with the wizard selecting one column in the form. Then make the row selector colunn and your editable column conditional using the plsql expression 1=1. The form is displayed the just the same with these true conditions but it doesn't work. How weird is that?
    Rod West

    Rod,
In your scenario the tabular form rendering engine is unable to place the hidden, internal tabular form status columns in your form, i.e. the columns that contain checksums, etc. The logic that places these columns looks for the last unconditional, visible column in your tabular form, and includes the hidden fields there. So you need at least one column that's always shown for this to work. This can be an otherwise empty column. I filed a bug (#13881803) for this, so we can look into improving this logic.

  • Too many columns in CROSS-Tab

    Post Author: plm
    CA Forum: Crystal Reports
    Hi,
I have created a cross-tab table that is supposed to return one column per value from a specific field. This specific field is not fixed and currently contains about 50 values (let's make them Col_1, Col_2,...,Col_50. Tomorrow, a user can create Col_51, calling it whatever he wants, and another user delete Col_3. In short, this is fairly dynamic, and the cross-tab is supposed to reflect these values and the data attached to it.
At the moment, Crsytal report XI returns has many columns as there are occurences in my column field. GREAT. How can I get 5 columns over 10 pages instead???
    Thanks,
    Philippe

Sorry, don't think you can. At least I have not been able to figure it out. If you have less rows than columns, you could try reversing it.

  • Too many Columns in the Cross_Tab will get error

Follow the requirement that will so many Columns in  the report , and should use the Corss_Tab,But when the data more than one page ,that will get error:Error formatting Cross-Tag Object.
Is there anybody get the same problem ???

    Hi Alex,
What version of Crystal Reports are you using (exact Service Pack/Support Pack and Patch)?
If the Crosstab is located on the Group Header or Footer, please see if the resolution from SAP Note: 1214209 helps. This is what it says:
This is a known issue in Crystal Reports and has been assigned Track ID ADAPT00055049.
This occurs because the 'Keep together' option is not selected for the group where the crosstab has been inserted.
To resolve this issue, complete the following steps:
    1. From the 'Format' menu, click 'Section'. This launches the 'Section Expert'.
    2. Click the group that contains the crosstab and select 'Keep Together'.
    3. Click the 'OK' button to close the 'Section Expert' dialog box.

  • ALV: Problem in exporting to excel with too many columns

    Hi,
While exporting from ALV report to excel following issue was faced:
ALV report contains 81 columns out of which 67 columns are displayed properly but from 68th column onwards data is dispalyed on next row
I want all columns displayed on single row..
    Any help will greatly appreciated..
    Thanks,
    Deepak

    Hi Deepak,
I was browsing through these threads to find anwer for the same issue.
So thought of putting my analysis which helped me resolve my problem.
    Analysis/Solution:
When we export ALV data to excel worksheet, as sap notes say the maximum lenght allowed is 1023 charaters and the max no of columns supported is 90.
(I never faced any issue related to no of columns as it worked fine for columns >90 too)
Issue occured when row size of exported data gets more than 1023 character.
Therefore the row data must not exceed 1023 character, otherwise column splits and moves to next row.
One additional aspect generally missed is that:
When data in any particular column changes it's length, alv header also changes its lengh (short text, medium text, long text; depending on the length of of the longest cell in the column)
therefore even if you have total length of row less than 1023 character, there might be cases when your ALV header size exceeds this length.
Hopefully it will be helpful for you too.
    Regards,
    Parveen

  • Table has too many columns for one pg in InDesign document. How do I force a break?

I have imported an Excel table into my InDesign document.  The table is 598 columns wide.  Obviously this isn't fitting on one page.  I want it to just keep flowing from page to page, keeping one same column at the beginning of each page (like "freeze panes" does in Excel) but it's not doing that.  Is this possible in my InDesign document or will I have to manually copy and paste 10 columns at a time, which is about how many are fitting on one page?  Any searches I do on this subject just talk about flowing rows but nothing about columns.

As far as I know there's probably no way ID is going to do what you want.
You can place a table across a multiple page spread, but the odds of being able to do that and still keep the file printable are marginal, at best. You can't for example, leave blank space at the gutters unless you are able to add a blank column that spans the gutter, and the limt for multipage spreads is 10 pages wide, whcih doesn't sound like it's probably enough to hold almost 600 columns.
Perhaps placing the table using named ranges of appropriate widths would work...

  • Split row in two rows (Table with too many columns)

    Hello,
I have a small problem. I have a table with several columns. As all the columns do not fit with the correct width, the format is very ugly. Since leaving all data in a row is very small, I like to cut a line into two, namely:
    - For example if I have a table with 10 columns, I would leave in the first row 7 columns (for that look good data) and the next row only the remaining 3 columns. Thus each row of the original table, occupy two rows on the form.
    Thank you very much beforehand

    hello
thanks for the reply, will be very helpful.
Regarding links to examples, I do not relate to this problem, these are not correct, you must have confused the link.
    thanks!

  • Viewer Auto Resizes Columns – when too many columns

    Hi Guys,
I’ve created a report in Desktop and am viewing it through Viewer (4.1). The report itself is a simple ‘table’ report with quite a lot of columns. (that’s where my problem comes in). I’m trying to tidy it up (mostly column X), therefore have wrapped a few columns in Discoverer Desktop all should look good….right?… well not quite ;-(
When viewing the Report in Viewer, Viewer has automatically resized or shrunk the columns. I have 24 columns in the report and even after Viewer has done it’s own resize to my columns, I still need to use the scroll bar to view columns to the right. So what was the point of Viewer doing that in the first place? Anyways, column X was originally word wrapped and expanded to include a lengthy description, however after being “Viewered” it is now the width of the heading text itself. Data within this columns is still wrapped, but by the size of the column heading.
I’ve noticed that if I start taking columns out one by one, Viewer will resize and increase the column size by a tiny amount. So to be able to display column X as required in Viewer, I’d have to take out 18 columns to be left with 6, which would then show Column X as the right size.
Please tell me if there is any workaround or settings that can be amended in the Pref.txt file?
    Thanks,
    Lance

    Hi Lance
There is nothing you can do in 4i to control this behavior, one very good reason to upgrade.
Discoverer Viewer will resize its columns in an attempt to fit them on a single page. It does this very well when the number of columns allows this. When you have more columns than can fit into a single page you will get multiple pages. If you reduce the headings for some of the columns are you able to get it to compress into a single page? If not, I fear you cannot do more.
    Best wishes

  • How many is too many columns in a composite index

    hi all, (using 10g r2)
i do realize that there is not an exact right answer, but im more curious to find out how others have handled this situation, for better or for worse...
i know the literal upper bound on the number of columns that can be part of a composite index but i was wondering if any of you had come up with what you feel to be practical or upper bounds on the number of columns in a composite index? Also, can anyone share info on what might be strategy to figure out at what point the number of columns in the index creates a situation where updating/maintaining the index outweighs any performance gain you get from the composite index? Thanks in advance! -- jp

This is situational - like everything else, it "depends".
Testing can be done by timing the results of the index variations you want to check. Time multiple uses of the index for DML and query operations involving the index. I like to track the numbers in seconds and put the values in spreadsheets for later reference and easy summation; you can put the data in tables to and use SQL for analysis if you want. I use dbms_utiltiy.get_time in pl/sql (get first time before run, get second time after run, time in fractiions of a second is second time minus first time) or set timing on in sql*plus (hour-minute-second) to obtain run times.
Efficiency depends on what the compsite index is for. Are you trying to enforce uniqueness? Use the composite for data retrieval? Adding exra columns to avoid table access?
Due to maintenance considerations indexes should not have more columns than needed. "duplicate" indexes with the same columns (like "id" vs "id, name") are usually redundant and one index (the one with the fewer columns) can usually be removed.

  • SQLException: [Lotus][ODBC Lotus Notes]Too many columns or expressions

    Hi there...
getting the above error when i try to execute a SQL statement using Java 1.5.....
see the problem here is the way the data is set-up...in order to limit a data-view i first have to read in a string of employee numbers by which my query will be limited..these values are not found in the data base but exist on an ftp Server in ascii format...
I ftp to the server retreive the relevant employee numbers & use a string buffer to extract the correct format of each employee number...i then use this string to limit my query..
//cast the stringBuff to a string
    String toSend = stringBuff.toString() + "'";
    //format of string toSend = 'IE0046', 'IE0012', 'IE1123', etc..etc...
    //SQL, limit using string toSend...

               //execute query using resultSet
rs = stmt.executeQuery(NotesQuery);the output format of the string passed is correct but contains more than 1,000 employee numbers..i am aware this may be alot of entries to process but i taught it would work alright..has anyone encounter a simliar problem before in the same environment?
I have also tried making the ResultSet.CONCUR_UPDATABLE and updating it this way..but i get an error stating that this is not support with the LotusNotes DB....
    thanks in advance..

Try removing the bracket immediately after WHERE.
NotesQuery = "SELECT EmpNum,Empcc,FullName,MailFile,sizecalc,Threshold_3 FROM UBC_Export_Dublin WHERE EmpNum IN("
                    + toSend + ") AND Empcc = '754' ORDER BY EmpNum";
