Template Shifting

Hi everyone,
I really hope someone can help out with this, because it's
doing my head in.
I'm running my site from a template, and even though it's
only by a few pixels, when you go from the home page to 'browse'
page, the title and menu shift out slightly.
I know it's not much, but I'd rather nip it in the bud before
I build the rest of the site.
Cheers!
Tom

You have problems on the pages -
<!-- InstanceBegin template="/Templates/Gallery Template
Theta.dwt"
codeOutsideHTMLIsLocked="false" -->
<script type="text/javascript">
<!--
That's how both pages begin. No Doctype, no <html>, no
<head>, no </head>,
no <body>. Dreamweaver should be shouting at you. This
is worth fixing as
I'm surprised you can even work on these pages in DW.
Can you show us the code on the Template page, please?

    How do you fill in a form that was saved as a template? When I try, the "template" shifts, which is not how a template should work!
    Templates, as I understand them, are fixed; you can "fill them in" without shifting them. Yet, I've saved doc as a template AND it shifts. Argh!

    Thanks for your response.
    I've managed to fix it but I wouldn't recommend the following as I'm sure its unsupported and I'll probably have problems down the line
    On the host
    * mv /etc/zones /etc/zones.bak
    * reboot single user
    * apply kernel patch (the one that ultimately I had to get on and which was giving pre-req dependency errors when running zones)
    * create a new zone now that host system is all up to date
    * Copy the operating system directories of the new zone (the one that's all patched) over the troublesome zone (the one that can't take the patch). Take backups first
    * cd /zones/new-zone/root
    * find sbin -print | cpio -pudm /zones/bad-zone/root
    * find usr -print | cpio -pudm /zones/bad-zone/root
    * find lib -print | cpio -pudm /zones/bad-zone/root
    * cd /zones/new-zone/root/var
    * find sadm -print | cpio -pudm /zones/bad-zone/root/sadm (this copies patches and pkgs directories and I'm sure a lot of other stuff that I didn't want)
    * mv /etc/zones.bak /etc/zones
    * reboot host
    * boot the old zone up. It should now have up to date patches
    I'm sure there are real no-no's in taking this approach but it seems to have worked for me. I'll update if I find there are some horrors down the line

  • Making Template Shifts page to right!

    I have a site that I have done 3 pages for and I'm making them into templates but as soon as I put an editable region in the whole pages shifts right in Dreamweaver. It doesn't effect the look on the web but look bad in dreamweaver. I dont know if you can tell by the image but one whole DIV is off the side of the screen. I could probaly fix the div that is shifted off the page with my CSS but what is doing this. And can I fix the #Wrapper?
    Forgot to add link to template. http://www.myradioclassics.com/Templates/ProductDiscription.dwt
    Thanks

    You have some errors in your code that DW may be choking on.
    Run your page through the validator at http://www.validator.w3.org
    One thing I know DW has hated in the past is comments with more than two hypens to start and close, so <!--- should be <!-- and ---> should be -->.
    If all of the errors are removed and Design View is still displaying it wrong, post back and we can take a closer look.
    Keep in mind though, that there may not be a "fix" for Design View. DV is just an approximation of how the page will look, not even a good one at that. Live View is better, but only represents the page as it would look in a "mostly there" version of a Webkit browser. Previewing in the actual browers is often the only way to know what your page will actually look like.

  • Using Page Breaks and Template Shifting

    I'm working on a book.  The book is in a word formate.  I'm taking the text and porting it into InDesign with page after page being connected. There are 73 pages in total of pure copy once ported in.  Now I'm going in and laying the media into the text.  I have two basic master template designs that I use based on the content being talked about in the text.  Example is Master Template A has a white background, and Master Template B which has a black background.
    Since the book is alternating between templates depending on the content on the page the pages might look like this:
    Page 1: Template A
    Page 2: Template A
    Page 3: Template B
    Page 4: Template A
    and so on.  I have a question about page breaking.  I'd like to always keep the content on page 3 on a master template B background.
    However, if I add more content to A, or if I use a page break, the content on all subsequent pages gets pushed down (all pages are connected).  So if I page break on Page 1, my content from page B gets pushed onto a template A background.  This is obviously not what I wanted.  Should there be another function besides page break that I should be using to put separaters?  How can I make sure that my content on page 3 stays on a template B background?

    Right now your text is threaded in one continuous story. When you add new text inthe middle, anything following that point is going to move. To prevent that you need to break the text into separate stories for eac type of content.
    This is basically the same thing as dividing the chapters of a book so that each one starts onthe correct master page, which is didcussed at some length here: http://forums.adobe.com/message/3993405#3993405

  • Template content shifting slightly from page to page?

    Hi folks,
    I am using Dreamweaver MX (yeah, I know) on OSX 10.6.8 and I am having problems with the navigation content in templates shifting slightly left and right between nearly identically created pages.
    See example at http://www.darrylvance.com/design_print.html and notice the shift when going from the sub-pages (which are in one position) back to the print, motion, other, etc. pages.
    The top tier pages were created using one template (for the navigation) and the Print sub-pages were created using a new template which is identical to the first one, except there is the navigation links added below.
    Another example is at http://www.darrylvance.com/art_painting.html where the same template was used for ALL the pages, but the Other and About pages have a similar horizontal shift as in the first example.
    I am assuming the different widths of the various pages content is causing these particular shifts, which are never noticable in DW but appear when in the browser.  I have rebuilt and rebuilt the offenders from identical correct pages and changed the widths of the content, but I'm still getting the same problem.
    I'd guess there is some kind of anomaly in the table settings, but for the life of me I can't find it.
    Thanks for your help.

    Thanks, John.  However, I can't figure out where to insert the code on the pages.  The tutorial you referenced is using a CSS style, but I am not (as far as I can tell), and frankly am not experienced enough with CSS to understand where it might go, if at all, on my pages.
    Do I edit the code on the templates and then let DW update the pages, or edit all the pages in the editable area of the code on each page.
    Here is the code from the template:
    <html>
    <head>
    <!-- TemplateBeginEditable name="doctitle" -->
    <title>DARRYL VANCE | design: print</title>

        document.MM_pgW=innerWidth; document.MM_pgH=innerHeight; onresize=MM_reloadPage; }}
      else if (innerWidth!=document.MM_pgW || innerHeight!=document.MM_pgH) location.reload();

  • One instance of Space Designer for multiple instruments

    Hi - I know that if you have - for example - four instances of an instrument all using the same Space Designer setting, you can have just one instance of the SD and use buses to send all the instruments to the same - somewhere - so they can all use it.
    I've tried this but I obviously placed the SD in the wrong -somewhere - since they didn't find it.
    Where is the correct place ?
    Thanks -Kay.

    Yes, that's the way to go.
    It is a shame, by the way, that names assigned to Busses in the I/O labels dialog are global to all Projects, so if you go crazy at one time and use *and name* 17 Busses for parallel compression, this naming is reflected in all other Projects too. Also, configurations in older Projects ported from V6,7,8 will vary wildly as you have refined your Templates, shifted gear, sold hardware etc. over the years. I have recently worked on a Project started in 2003, and Bus names were all over the place. It is one thing to have indifferent Bus 13, Bus 14, Bus 15 shown in the Sends, but it's a whole other dimension when all the names are wrong like Guitars, Vocals, Moreme when actually they feed Delay 1, Headphone and Drums.
    You can, however, work around this limitation. After copying the *IO Labels* file from User/Library/Application Support/Logic to a safe place like +Default IO Labels+, you can change the original to your liking and then copy that to your Project folder. This way you can throw the correct file back into the AppSupp folder when you're working on that Project later. You have to restart Logic for this to take effect.

  • Dynamically expanding resume

    Hi,
    I'm currently working on a project that allows users to create their own resumes from a set of templates. Below is a picture of one template that I'm using for testing purposes.
    http://content.screencast.com/users/hamedn/folders/Jing/media/61fa8030-8435-4fba-aefb-ad9b b51e1a96/2013-07-15_1350.png
    Currently the way that it works is that I've tagged a fixed number of repeating textboxes (Date, Title, Location, Details) and with their parent tag as ExperienceItem, and then exported this as an XML file. The key of the application is that the user can edit the XML file however he wishes, and then I use Import XML to import his XML into the template and give him the outputted PDF file. However, there are a few things I need that I haven't figured out how to do yet. Any help would be greatly appreciated:
    1. How do I make it so that if the user adds a lot of extra text (or very little) to one of the textboxes (such as the details textbox), the template shifts accordingly? So if there's one line, the other textboxes below shift upward to fill the empty space and the opposite if there's too much text.
    2. How do I make the template more dynamic? I don't want to have to have 10 placeholder textboxes. Users should put as many or as little ExperienceItem's into the XML file, and the template should create as many items in the list as ExperienceItems.
    3. How do I let extra content flow into the next page?
    Thank you very much for the help!
    -Hamed

    Since this is the swing forum I will assume that you are using a JTextArea. Use:
    JTextArea.setLineWrap(true);
    JTextArea.setWrapStyleWork(true);
    Those will cause word wrap. If you don't want to wrap by word then don't add the second method call.

  • Template tables shifting when editing editible regions

    Hi there everyone,
    Have made a template. When making ne pages from the template, and then editing the editible regions, the tables are shifing and not going back to original place, even when I click here and there to see if they will go back. Sometimes the tables do go back to the original place, and other times they do not.
    Have made sure when making editable regions that the td, and other table code is not included in the editible regions.
    What I am asking, is when you make a template, if the table code is not included in the editable regions, should the tables be shifting around?
    What do you think?
    Any solutions?
    Thanks so much to you all,
    Hope

    Dear Gary,
    What a darling you are. Thank you so, so much for your attention. Wow, since you have never used templates, maybe I shouldn't either...(-:

And whenever during the lifetime negative influences are observed in the horoscope, calculations are made in advance to prescribe yagyas to generate positive influences to counterbalance the negative influences of the past.</p>
                  <p>All the Maharishi Yagya programs are with reference to Natural Law&mdash;the Will of God. It is very necessary for anyone who is entertaining the Maharishi Yagya programs to align their life to the rules of purity of life, as they understand purity of life.</p>

                  <p>Teams of experts in Maharishi Jyotish consultation have been organized for each continent. They are available for consultations and they are experts at making Comprehensive Life Kundalis and prescribing appropriate Maharishi Yagya performances and Graha Shanti for individuals, families, and companies.</p>

  • Sub templates: ?template:TemplateName? shifts content of the template

    Hi,
    I have a sub template which is defined by the following code:
    <?template:TemplateName?>
    Content of a template
    <?end template?>
    The subtemplate is called by the following code:
    <?import:file:///D:/BITemplates/Template.rtf?>
    <?call@inlines:TemplateNameT?>
    <?end call?>
    The content of the template is a table on a two column page. When I run it in JDE, it looks like the table getting shifted couple rows down. If I run it locally on my machine as a regular, non template report, it appears fine. I suspec that the shift is caused by <?template?>, but not sure why and how. It causes major problems as the whole allignemnt of the data is appearing wrong when I run it as a sub template from JDE.
    Any ideas why this happening and how I can fix that?
    Thanks a lot!

    I found the problem. Extra spaces in the main template were shifting content. After I deleted extra and unnecessary spaces, the template looks as it is suppose to now.

  • How to shift text within an envelope template

    Hello,
    I have created an envelope template to mail out some thank you notes. The envelope size is smaller than the average business envelope (3.75 x 5" vs. the standard business). Naturally, I went in to page setup and created a custom size for this template. I ran into trouble when I saw that the recipient's name and address blocks are too far shifted to the right. They run off the page and forces many other pages to be created as a result.
    How can I shift the text back to the left? I, like many other smart users, have shifted to the iwork suite recently and I am having a little trouble assimilating. I tried to highlight the text and click the downward triangle, but the triangle will only shift right, and not left.
    I skimmed through other posts and couldn't find anything similar to my situation. Thank you for your help.

    Yes, I actually haven't thought of that yet. However, I'm attempting to merge my contacts within address book.
    I feel like it shouldn't take any drastic change in my document. I guess if all else fails, I'll resort to looking for that merge widget.

  • Template pages shift slight to left when uploaded

    Hello,
    I'm fairly new to dreamweaver and i'm having difficulty trying to get my template page to open correctly. On my index page i created editable regions and saved the page as a template. I open new template choosing the one i just created. I add text to it and save it. When i upload all the files and  click on the tab to connect to my template page the template opens but it shifts sligtly to the left. What am i doing that might be causing this. Thanks, Owen

    I understand now that once you select a region to be editable the rest of the areas are locked.
    That's not correct.  A given template page can have many editable regions on it, as well as the non-editable regions.
    I'm trying to get the spry menu at the top to be editable.
    Honestly, you would never want to have your menu in an editable region, without making it a Library item or a server-side include first.  What is it you were hoping to accomplish by doing that?
    if i go into the template i can't insert widget as it is locked.
    A template file is always completely editable - there are no locked areas.  It's on the child pages where you might get this message.
    The home page and the second link (private lessons) seem to be working,
    Add this to your CSS in the Template page -
    html, :root { overflow-y:scroll; }
    Now all of your pages will work.

  • Templated site shifts

    HI,
    I'm hoping someone out there can help me.  I've created a site based on a template that I designed.  It's pretty simple - but when the content of either left or right columns exceeds the screen size, the page shifts.
    I've re-created both template and pages multiple times, I can't find the problem.  Please help...
    Site:  http://www.digitalinfodesign.com/kcg/index.html
    CSS: http://www.digitalinfodesign.com/kcg/kcg.css
    Please take a look.
    Thank you so much

    Not sure what you mean by page shifts when content exceeds screen width.You're working with a fixed-width layout.  How much shifting could there be?
    I've looked at your site in Firefox with increased text size and resized viewport, I'm not seeing a shift.
    In which browsers are you seeing this problem?
    Meanwhile, you have some code errors you might want to clean up.

  • Why are my pages shifting? Made revisions to template then applied.

    I am doing an overhaul of my website. I made changes to my Basic Page Template but the changes affected each page differently. I changed the pages from % width tables to absolute. Even though I applied my changes to all the pages that use the template, the change is not consistent throughout the site. I checked each page individually and each of them had different widths and % vs. pixels. I changed each one manually. I went through the code and I just can't come up with a solution. They still don't all line up when you navigate from page to page.
    Can anyone help me figure this out? my site is deborahdavisdesign.com
    i'm working on Mac G5 OS 10.5.7, with a 2.5gb hd and 1.5gb ram. Using DW8.
    Thanks so much.

    Thank you! I didn't know that. I made revisions to each page. But it was so confusing selecting the tables and putting in the correct value. I must have selected them dozens of times before I was able to select them in all the ways possible to give each one a consistent value. It didn't make any sense to me and ultimately I don't understand how I did it. Do you have any suggestions for selecting tables and the components of tables? And do you have any suggestions for building a better template next time?
    Thanks so much.
