Templates & Timelines

I'm having a problem using timelines with templates. I'm
using DreamWeaver 8, CS2.
Our current website has a timeline that runs for about 100
seconds. It shows roughly 20 pictures & loops back.
I'd like to create a template to perform the same operation.
Each time I create a template, the timeline does not run & that
function is greyed out in the template. Tried making that section
of the template an editable region; no luck. Does anyone have
suggestions?

Any template properly created by DMX or later will have two
editable regions
in the head of the page - one for the title tag (doctitle),
and another for
anything else you want to put there (head). You can place
meta tags,
javascript, or embedded styles in that second editable region
- so that each
page has unique content. Does yours have these regions? If
not, then you
have not made your template properly.
Don't worry too much about meta tags. The keywords are no
longer used by
the major search engines.

  • Dreamweaver template/timeline problem

Hi, someone may have an answer or suggestion to a problem which has occured.
Quite new to DW so forgive my ignorance. I have created a site in DW CS3 using templates. I want to create a piece of animated text in DW, can do it in flash but would prefer to learn DW way. I have used method of creating ap div layer, but have only been able to work this way successfully in blank page. When I insert ap div in template page in editable area. the timeline function remains completely greyed out, it will allow me to insert div however does not allow me to amend/change attributes. Is the ap div/timeline way best way to animate text in DW or has anyone any better suggestion. I’ve uploaded temporary page http://www.design2.ie/test/index.html. Hoping to put 4  pieces of text in right blue panel. Sorry if I’m doing something stupid, appreciate your help.

    Hi Kcelsi
I too have found that you cannot create a template in DW and then upload it to BC easily, as you are experiencing, you need to create a blank template in BC first, download it to DW, work on it and re-upload.
Somehow the templates folder in the BC site is not available to add files to in DW as easily as the stylesheets folder. So I download the templates folder from BC in DW.
To create a template for a web site I do the following in
    1. In BC back end go to the templates area, and create a blank template.
    2. Set up the site in DW, and then download the template folder from BC. You will then have the blank tempate you created in BC on your hard drive and can work on it and re-upload to BC. BC will then see it as a template file and it will be available to apply to pages. Notice that it is a .html file
    3. Start a blank template file in DW, and copy the code. The blank BC template you downloaded won't have any of the code you need like the HTML declaration at the top in <head> etc.
    4. Copy the tag_pagecontent tag from the BC template  you downloaded, and put it into Notepad. (BC won't recognise your file as a template if it does not have this tag)
    5. Copy all the code from the blank DW template you just created, and paste it into the code view of your BC template. Save the file, remembering to save as .html like it was in BC.
    6. Put the tag_pagecontent tag from Notepad into the part of the template where you want your page content to be. This area is what you can see when editing web pages in BC.
    5. Go on creating your template in DW, linking it to the website stylesheet you create. Make sure the site stylesheet is in a folder called Stylesheets.
    6. Upload the Stylesheets folder and Templates folder to BC when you are ready.
Hope this makes sense and is helpful!

  • Repetitive task help - adding logo and bumpers to 50+ sequences

Is there any way to add graphic and video elements to multiple sequences, and then export? The only way I've been able to add logos and pre-roll and post-roll bumpers is by manually adding them to each sequence. I don't have Shake or any other expensive software (besides FCP), just automator, applescript, etc.
Please help. I don't want to get carpal tunnel.

I'm guessing the sequences are already cut...?
One solution would be to set up a sequence (template) with your pre/post bumpers and logo(s), then drag each sequence from the browser, into the template timeline, rename that sequence and put it in a dedicated folder in the browser for a Batch Export.
For the Batch Export select your dedicated bin in the browser, (or all the sequences in the browser you want to export if they're listed individually), then control-click on them and select 'batch export' (you can do this from the "File" menu as well.
Check the buttons at the bottom of the batch export interface for the settings/destinations you want.

  • Integrating Twitter Timeline in Pages 09 Template

Is it possible to integrate a Twitter timeline (list of tweets from account) API into a Pages 09 template? And if so how might that be done? Anyone have any examples of what it would look like?

For those of us not familiar with Twitter timelines and APIs, could you expand on the nature of the data and how you want to treat it?

  • Edit Motion project as Motion template in FCP timeline?

    Hi,
I'd like to know is it possible to turn basic Motion project into Motion template in Final Cut Pro timeline? If not possible I think this would be a great feature because it simply takes too much time to copy motion projects for example to 10 edits /library/motion... folder to have them accessible as templates. I know it wouldn't be possible to see preview videos this way but I wouldn't care. Motion templates are a great tool but this way a little bit too slow to use for simple text animations etc.

In FCP, right-click the Motion project and choose open in editor. In Motion, choose save as template.

  • How to update motion templates in the timeline

If I add a motion template to a sequence, then decide to chance the motion template, how can i update all instances of that template in the timeline?

It may be too late now, but in the future, if you plan to use a motion template repeatedly (with the same settings) and consider changing it later, one possible way to achieve that may be to enclose it in a compound clip, since all instances of compound clips are automatically updated when one of them is. But of course by doing this you'll lose the ability to separately tweak the parameters for different instances.

  • Timeline- Is there a template for one of these?

I have a school project that includes a timeline.
I have searched online- but the ones on there only offer like 6 events and I need at least 20.
If there is not template for one of these, then is there something I can get?
Also, I need it to be free.
    -L@uren

Do you know that Pages User Guide is also for you ?
Its chapter #13 described very well the way to create a template.
To achieve your goal, I would create a table with 30 cells.
I would build my label in cell A1 and would insert the formula =$A$1 in every other cells.

  • Feature Request: Timelines in Event Folder

    Hi,
Final Cut X is an awesome video editing program - great job with all of the updates you've been pushing out!!
There's something that I would love to see in Final Cut Pro X that would enhance the editors ability to organize.  I'd love to see timelines in the Event folder - like the title says.  I know that the creators of FCPX initially allowed the seperation of Events and Timelines to give editors access to all of their media at all times - and I am thankful that they are continually thinking out of the box to give us this kind of functionality.  But after it was released, I'd like to know if editors wound up using that functionality - that's not a rhetorical question, I'd really like to know.  Do they take footage from one movie shoot and use it in a different movie?  Do they take graphics for one commercial and use it in another?  If it's a consumer making a family vacation DVD, do they take shots from one trip and use it in another?  I definitely think it was an innovative idea, but it didn't wind up adding functionality that we use very often, and it wound up introducing complexity to the organization process.  The way timelines currently work, I have to export the entire sequence - I can't have version 1 of my video at the beginning of the timeline and version 2 at the end.  I have to create two, three, four seperate timelines.  I can't use keywords to make the different versions.  I also can't have 2 different commercials on the same timeline.  I would love to one day be able to open up the Event window, choose my event, and see all of my related timelines there, all my footage, all my graphics, and even all my Motion files (because right now, I have to create my Motion files as templates and organize those in a seperate template window.)  It would be great to hit a little plus sign in my Event and create another timeline.  But right now, I start getting stressed when I have more than 10 projects in Final Cut... and I have about 30 and counting.  It also takes 2 to 3 times longer to delete my old projects because they're in three different windows, and I have to remember how I made them.  It may sound like a small issue, but I think Final Cut is good at eliminating the small problems in an editor's day to day workflow.  It would also consolidate all of the project's data into one folder on my hard drive.  And the great part is, editors would still have all of the same functionality that you originally envisioned, being able to access all of their media in any timeline - because the Event window is still there, and as accessible as ever.  Allowing timelines to be placed in an Event, along with Motion files, would allow an increased level of organizational optimization that would give editors the freedom to think less about saving their work and more about creating it. Lemme know if you have any thoughts, too!
    - David

Okay, that's a good thing.  I just tried it out, and this is what happened.  I made a selection of the area I wanted to export, turned it into a compound clip, and copied it.  Then, in the project list, created a new project that will adjust it's frame size automatically, pasted it, then export.  That definitely is a way to put different videos in the same timeline.  Nice workaround, thank you Tom!
But, even though this answers one of my questions (thanks Tom), I still have a bunch more that I want Apple to consider.  First of all, this doesn't answer the questions about organization.. or Motion.  I would still like to be able to organize my projects in a more conducive environment.  If I could see my timelines in the Event pane, I could utilize all of FCPX's awesome export features in one click, the way FCPX intended.

  • New To AE from Motion (FCP) - timeline and other questions (PREVIEW)

Okay, so like your normal person, I just install and open a template and delve into it seeing what can happen.
So far, I learned that you need an update for macbook pro (opengl), no problem, downloaded and all is fine.
However, I did notice something that coming from a Motion POV, I am not used to....
If I open a template, I notice that the time line plays back about 200 milliseconds or 5 seconds to play about 1 second of video. Is there a way to make it realtime? Also, it seems as if it needs to be rendered when you play back on the timeline (green bar). Is there a way to play in realtime? Surely the newer Macs are fast enough to play back in realtime.
Last, for now, what is the best training for this application? Lynda.com, books, other video resources?
    Thanks.

    >I think that makes sense since it is going to RAM.
Yes, it does. To not "loose" the frames, enable the disk cache. This will dump frames that cannot be held in RAM, so they are available for spacebar playback and faster generation of successive RAM previews
    >Nonetheless, regardless of the settings, I could not get it to play in >realtime at all.
Check the info panel and see if indeed it is as you say. If the issue persists, search this forum. There is tons of things that can screw RT abilities from incorrect graphics card configs to audio or certain QT CoDecs.
    >Surely this can't be the case is it?
It can. Once more: you are letting your confusion get in the way of seeing things for what they are. AE is a program that still does most of its stuff in software running on the CPU, not your graphics card like it does in Motion. It functions on different principles. Effects have to explicitly be written to use hardware acceleration, which only a limited number of them do and then again, they will revert to software-only mode if you stack a number of effects that exhaust your graphics card resources or combine them with non-accelerated effects.
This is no different than what happens in Motion when you use a given number of layers with blendmodes, distortion effects etc.. that can no longer be processed in realtime. At that point it actually behaves much worse than AE since it lacks the fallback software routines. It seems, that you just never work with anything remotely complex and thus never have reached that point, which would explain your disappointment and frustrations with AE. If you are not willing to understand the conceptual differences, it will forever be that way.
I can only once more urge you to not see as a replacement for Motion as a background and title generator, but as a flexible, resolution independent compositing and effects package that does so much more, but at the cost of buying this flexibility with more generalised, software-only routines. You may see this differently and never use AE as deeply as some other people, but this is just how it is.

  • How to edit a template gallery with not xml files?

i bought a template and have edited too my satisfaction,
however i am unable to add more pics to the gallery,
i can add frames and pics in the pics/thumbs timeline, but they do not show,
i can change the 12 pics in the original timeline without difficulty, but cannot find anyway to add more pics or thumbs.
i have been trying to sort this for a week with no joy, i would really appreciate any help that i can get on this, any at all.
i did post the .FLV file on the adobe server Case #0181222772 ,
i now realise that was in the wrong place to request help with issue,
however if you can see that, maybe you can find whatever it is i am missing???? please help before i go insane ;-).

Thanks for that,Webqaflash however thats my problem, after searching through the files for a week many hours of frustration later i find i cannot find anyway to find or edit that restriction, it may be because i am an absolute noob, or that the template seems to be very scruffy, i picked up the template and flash and a week or two later had everything sorted except the gallery, im sure some flash expert can point me in the right direction, and that may be all i need, in the FLV file symbol 10,11,12 and 13 seem to be associated with the gallery, nothing else appears to be, but i just cant find the way to edit it. noobs what can we do but ask for help.....;-)

  • Multiple users using the same templates?

The place I work puts out a weekly TV show and we regularly use the same lower thirds for various titles that come up throughout the show. After opening them up in Motion 3 I saved the titles as templates, which is great because now I can do all the work in FCP rather than Motion.
However, the templates are saved to my user on the local HD. We have multiple editors that work on multiple computers.
Is there a way to make the templates available on all computers to all users?
    Any suggestions is appreciated.
    jesse.

Too, here's one more roadblock to (hypothetically) consider.
Even if what we've discussed happened to work, there would be one more issue: network bandwidth. When you add one of these "Master Templates" to a FCP timeline, then drag it to the browser, then right-click and select "Reveal in Finder", it points straight to the Templates folder that I alluded to earlier. Locally.
So if this template lived in one central place then, potentially, all editors could be trying to access it, in real-time, remotely, simultaneously. I think this would wreak havoc quickly. Unless of course you're employing a SAN. Now we're talking about a whole new beast. (Unless you've got a SAN already. ;))
Bottom line is you're going to distribute templates to all editors individually. Unless you're developing new templates all the time, then this shouldn't be too much of a chore. Just out of curiosity, how many editors will this be deployed to?

  • I know how to create a PROJECT template, but is there a way to create SLIDE templates?

Basically I've got several modules, and throughout all the modules is several different pages (text&graphic page, hot graphic page, tab page etc etc).
What I would love to do is create a set template for each page type (a template for text&graphic, a template for tab page etc) as I have numerous instances of the same pages throughout all the modules (and also for continuity as well).
It would be great to create placeholders for slide templates just like the application in project templates, and then be able to drop these slides into different projects to have the same foundation to start adding data.
Project templates is a good start, but only if i want to use the same template throughout the entire module.
Any one know how to do this?
    Thank yo
    Rich.

If you're using Cp5/5.5 you can create multiple master slides to them apply to the applicable slides (I don't remember if it was in Cp4).
Master slides are portable, also, you can copy all the elements and paste them onto new slides in the same project or a different project.
    Insert > Master Slide
Which should create a new blank slide in the Master Slide panel.  You add items to the slide like backgrounds, captions, rollover captions, highlights, shapes, animations (buttons/click boxes are not allowed).  You use the timeline as you would with a 'normal' slide, but you can't adjust the length of the master slide (this doesn't impact the length of a 'normal' slide).
On your content slides you select the master slide in the Properties panel, general, master slide dropdown.

  • Can muliple DVD scene paths be created in a template

    Hello all,
I am trying to edit some of the DVD menu templates. Is there a way to have a Scene button, then have like an Extras button and have them point to different second level menus? I know the typical Scene button will create or enable additional scene pages as you add markers, but I want to multiple sections on my DVD menu. Can anyone tell me if I can do this with Premiere Elements 8?
    David

The solution is to put all of the clips on the same timeline, but include a stop marker at the end of each segment. At the stop
marker, the DVD will return to the main menu.
My free article on DVD markers at Muvipix will explain how to do it.

  • How to: Select a Specific Timeline Displayed in Project Online when having multiple timelines within the Enterprise Project

Currently I have an Enterprise Project which has 6 custom timelines and I want to know how to select a specific timeline to be displayed on the Project specific SharePoint site.
I'll provide some background for you so you understand my issues... I have created a "template" project with 6 custom timelines. From that project I created multiple new projects - which they all have the 6 custom timelines. These projects are
all stored in the Project Center. The problem I am having is I don't understand how to select a specific timeline to show on the project specific SharePoint site. They all seem to be displaying 1 of the 6 timelines (in no particular order). I was thinking
maybe if I had edited a project and saved it while it was displaying a specific timeline it would display the last selected timeline on the SharePoint site, but it doesn't seem to be doing that.
Is there a way to select a specific timeline to display on the SharePoint site?  Also, is there a way for a user to cycle through the numerous timeline view on the project specific SharePoint site?
    I await your help!! :)

    Michelle_Sm --
I ran into this problem at the company where I used to work.  One of our PMs had created multiple Timeline views, and wanted a specific custom Timeline view to show up in the Project Site for that project.  I could not see any way to make that
happen.  We had one of our SharePoint developers look into the issue, and he could not see any way to make this happen either.  So, I am thinking this is not possible to do.  But I would gladly welcome others in this forum to tell us the trick,
if there is one!  :)  Hope this helps.

  • How to create a specific title template?

    Hi!
So I'm creating a video containing multiple interviews. During the interview, I want to create some text boxes next to the person being interviewed, which contain some of the keywords from the spoken text.
I'm trying to get the following result:
As for now, i'm constantly manually creating rectangles which I have to scale to the text to fit as a proper background. Is there any way to create a title template so that the background scales automatically to the text? So if I would add a line at the bottom, the background/rectangle/... would expand to the correct size?
Hope you can help me, because that could save me hours of work!
    Nicholas

See "Create a title based on the current title"
    http://helpx.adobe.com/premiere-pro/using/creating-editing-titles.html
and then right click on the title on the timeline which is in the proper position, click "copy", right click on the new title(s) on the timeline and click "paste attributes."
