Terminal Server Exits on print

Hi All,
Client: Mac OS 10.6.6
rdesktop: rdesktop-1.6.0.dmg
Server: Windows 2003 R2, Sp2, 32 bit
We do not use M$'s RDP for MAC as it does not support port masking.
I have a customer with a Apple that has the annoying habit of
exiting his Terminal Service session whenever he tries to print (from
TS). When he logs back in to terminal services, he pick up right where
he left off. All except no print out.
I have done three other Apples with the same set up. No problems.
Has anyone come across this problem and how did you fix it?
Many thanks,
-T

This is all command line. It looks like this on the apple side:
/usr/bin/rdesktop -N -a 16 -d FOODOMAIN -u xxxxx -p yyyyyy -g 85% -r printer:'Officejet7500_E910_670D7C'='HP Officejet 7500 E910' -r printer:'HPColor_Laser_2840_143703'='HP Color LaserJet 2840 PCL 6' -r disk:MyShare=/Users/xxxxx/Desktop -r clipboard:CLIPBOARD server[:port]
Where
-N: enable numlock syncronization
-a: connection color depth
-d: domain
-u: user name
-p: password
-g: desktop geometry (WxH)
-r: enable specified device redirection (this flag can be repeated)
The print redirection is done with the "-r" flag. In this instance, two printers are being redirected. And they do show up mapped correctly in the Terminal Server's printer diaglog:
Syntax: -r printer:'Apples CUPS printer name'='Terminal Services Printer name'
-r printer:'Officejet7500_E910_670D7C'='HP Officejet 7500 E910'
-r printer:'HPColor_Laser_2840_143703'='HP Color LaserJet 2840 PCL 6'
When the users press the print button in Terminal Services, the Terminal Services session vanished. When you log back in, you resume just after the print command. And, no print out.

  • Slow printing with rdp Terminal server 2012

    Hi,
we've got some problems with slow printing on a wan link with RDP to server 2012, i tried several solutions like:
Disable easy print service ( it shoud be to increase performance but it doesn't work)
option: Send the print job directly to the Printer
I'm out of my options, there are no connection problems with the remote branch office and before using server 2012 they had terminal server 2003 and printing works fine over rdp.
    Thanks for your advice

Did you monitor the spooling size of the print jobs?
Depending from the drivers and the software used there may flow a serious amount of data, since both hardware and software makers no longer care about efficient programming, if it comes to bandwidth and storage occupation sizes. Slow WAN connections do not
fit in to their picture any more ...
This was still different in the Server 2003 era.
    Best greetings from Germany

  • Hp 125nw (Terminal server)

Please help me solve the problem: HP LaserJet Pro MFP M125 series does not work on Terminal Server.  Installing different versions of drivers for this did not solve the problem (the drivers have been installed from the disk out of the box with the device, and on the site Hewlett Packard).  On the terminal server role installed "Print Management".  Driver HP LaserJet Pro MFP M125 is also installed on the terminal server.  On a local network with MFP works.  On Terminal Server printing task is redirected after running the task, rises in "print file", and immediately disappears from the print file without printing anything.  How to solve it is?  Thanks in advance

  • Bug: CR XI on Windows Terminal Server 2008

We have a problem when printing a report for example with 2 columns, where the 1st column's content is larger than the width of that column, then the content is printed through colum 2.
    But only when:
working on remote on Terminal Server 2008
when printing on a remote printer (redirected)
    There's no problem:
    in the preview window
when printing to a local printer of the server
    on Terminal Server 2003
    Any ideas?
    Tx
    Patrick

You mentioned it worked fine in the preview window, so does the issue only show up when not printing with data?

  • Terminal Server (2008 Standard) stops communicating randomly with printers. Have to reboot TS to temporarily fix issue.

I'm using Windows 2008 Standard, remoteApp feature to run applications at our branch offices (8 locations).   All of our printers are HP laserjet printers (mainly 4015 model).  All are setup as IP printers.  The printers at each branch
are installed locally on the terminal server using the universal PCL5 driver.  A majority of the time all works well.  However, randomly a printer will change it's status to "offline" on the terminal server.
When that happens the printer itself is fine.  Local users can print directly to the printer, and I can access the printer and print to it remotely.
From the terminal server however, it shows that printer as offline.  I can't communicate with that printer from TS or even ping that printer's IP address.  I can ping all other IP's at that branch, just not the one belonging to the printer from
TS.  From any other computer besides the TS I can ping the printer's IP
It's not always the same printer/branch that does this, and there seems to be no pattern to when or where this happens, and I have to reboot the terminal server to get it to talk to that printer again.
Any insight into this or a way to fix it without bringing the terminal server down would be appreciated.

    Hello,
    Thanks for your feedback.
Based on the situation you described, I recommend you to use a typical solution for Windows Server 2008-based Terminal Server and Networking Printing:
Connect the printers to a Printing Server located in domains.
Install the often-used printers on the client sides, using Easy Print enabled drivers on the client sides.
When the client user remotely access the Terminal Server with Printer Redirection enabled, the client printer can be redirected and work seamlessly.
Most of the community members in this forum are using this solution and the result is satisfying. This method allow the users to print with the same printers both
in local and remote sessions. For more information on Easy Print, please refer to:

  • Print Dialog Box for Addon is not showing in Terminal Server

    Dear All,
I have created a addon for Automatic Sales Invoice printing that prints the crystal report directly to the printer bu opening a
print dialog box for printer selection through SDK code.
The Same addon works fine on the server with print dialog box being showing through SDK code.
But while running on Terminal Server , print dialog box is not showing any printer though printers are redirected to that
terminal server.I am not getting whether the problem is in my addon or in the terminal server printer settings.
Please suggest as i need to know the reason urgently.
    Thanks
    Amit

    Hello Edward,
    Thanks for your reply .
But the problem is that while running on normal server the print dialog box appear with the printer name in my addon for printer selection .
But while using terminal server , the print dialog box is not getting any printer in the dialog box .That's the major concern for me
is their any way to check that why the printers are not showing in print dialog box.
    Thanks ,
    Amit

  • How do I add a network printer to a terminal server for one user?

I have a 2003 terminal server.  I also have a network printer accessible by IP.  I want one of the users on the TS to print to this printer.
If I log in as the user, all print options are greyed (access denied).  There's no 'users' icon in control panel to give the user admin access like I might do on a workstation.  This printer is not installed on a print server so even if he did
have access, doing so doesn't appear to be an option.  If I log in as Administrator I can add printers but it wants me to specify \\servername\printername and it's not set up that way.  It's just a network printer on an IP.  Also I'm not trying
to get RDP to map the printer locally for the user, he needs to be able to print from the terminal server to the network printer.  Any articles I can find assume the printer is either local to the user or on a print server of some kind.
    Is this possible and how?
    Thanks!

  • Crystal Reports on MS Terminal Server printing the size of a postage stamp

    Post Author: phil
    CA Forum: General
When I print off reports from our accounting system to an HP 1022 Printer which is installed on my workstation from a MS Terminal Server it prints the entire document the size of a postage stamp?
We are using the Crystal 9 print engine. If I send reports to an old HP DeskJet printer, the reports print fine. If I print the built in reports from the accounts system they also print fine.
    Any one seen this before?

    Post Author: V361
    CA Forum: General
You could try, adding another printer, but instead of using the native HP 1022 Printer , use the drivers from the old printer (the one that is working)  for example, go to (this is Win XP version)
Start, Printers, select the printer, right click, select properties, click on the advanced tab, select a different driver.  Many of the newer printers will still support older printer drivers.  If that fails, you may need to check the amount of memory the 1022 has. Also, does the printer support downloadable fonts ?

  • Windows 2008 R2 Terminal Server clients lose remote printer queues after logoff

There are similar issues to this already on the forums but not precisely like this as far as I can tell, and I have tried all the fixes mentioned in those other threads.
Windows 2008R2 terminal server connecting to a 2008R2 print server. A script maps a connection to the print server on login. Users can browse the print server, connect to print queues to add them, and the queues work OK at first. As soon as they logoff/login
again, the queues still appear in their list of printers but cannot be selected for printing ('Print' button is greyed out).
Domain administrator users can print OK always; this is only affecting regular-user accounts, so it is probably a security/permissions issue. Print queues configured on the terminal server itself are OK, this only affects the queues on the
    print server.
No errors are generated in the Event Logs. No failures seen for the print spooler or anything else.
I have added Everyone with Full Control to C:\windows\system32\spool on the terminal server. Tried giving full permissions to all in the printer properties. Cleaned out all registry keys in Client Side Rendering Print Provider as mentioned in some other
threads. In group policy, client printer redirection and LPT port redirection is allowed, use Easy Print driver first, and the print server is in the Intranet zone for low security. The issue happens for all print queues on the print server with a variety
of drivers so I don't think it is driver-related.

A bad GPO being applied ??
If you isolate a user, remove all GPO (even loopback's one), connect manually to a printqueue to make him install's one. Logoff and reconnect and check again if the printqueue work good. The only right that could block you is the driver's installation, but
I really sure that you don't have that issue (as it would be logged anyway)
The admin. account often have less GPO that apply to him.

  • Cannot find m1212nf multifunction printer driver to install on w/2008 terminal server (64bit).

Cannot find m1212nf multifunction printer driver to install on w/2008 terminal server (64bit).  The existing driver wants me to connect the printer using USB.  The printer is in another facility I am trying to support.

    Hi,
The HP M1212nf used the Host-Based printing language, such printing language is not recommended Citrix or Terminal Services envoirnment and not officially supported.. you may try using the Citrix UPD on the server by installing the basic driver for yor printer on the client:
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareCategory?cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en&product=3965849&task=&
(ii) HP does not recommend installing these host-based LaserJet drivers on the Citrix server; however, the devices may function by using the Citrix UPD on the Citrix server with the HP host-based driver installed on the client. Print drivers for your product may be available within the Windows 7 operating system.

  • Adobe is not printing - Terminal Server Windows 2012

Hello and thank you for reading this.
We recently upgrade our server infrastructure  to Windows 2012 R2. When a user logging to a server (Terminal Server 1 let's say) sometimes they cannot print from Adobe. If they can login to another Server, let's say Terminal Server 2 they are just fine.
The issue is the following:   They click on Print >  Select Printer >  Hit "Print"  and nothing happens.   When Adobe Reader is working, after clicking on "Print" you clearly see a progress bar until it reaches 100 %.
Troubleshooting:  We have updated the drivers to the latest versions , re-install Adobe Reader but nothing seems to help.  This is very annoying as the user needs to login to a different server in order to print from Adobe disconnecting the whole session.
Also, a different user with same permissions can login to the server having issues and print fine from Adobe.
If you can guide us in the right direction to finally resolve this it would be greatly appreciated.
Additional Notes: All printers are in a printer server environment.  Users are able to print everything else except PDF Files using Adobe Reader.  When installing another PDF Reader software they are able to print fine.
    Thank you

    Hi,
Are you still facing this issue. What is the current version of Reader installed.
Provide me more information about, how are user profiles are setup.
    Regards,
    Ajlan Huda.

  • Adobe Reader 9, No Print context menu on Terminal Server

    Hi,
I've recently installed Adobe Reader 9 on my Windows 2003 Terminal Server, and even though i've installed it through Add/Remove (user install mode) there is no "print" option when you right click a file in Windows Explorer.
There used to be on my old terminal server, and is on our desktop machines, so I'm not sure if it's Adobe Reader 9, or some other issue.
I've looked for how to create it using "File Types" in "Folder Options", but have idea what the command lines need to be.
Anyone got any help on this one?
    Regards
    Carl

    Hello,
I, too, installed Adobe Reader 9.0 on 12/28/08, assuming it to be an
update to Adobe Reader 8.0. What a joke! The print format box is
completely worthless and above all, it also does not offer a "print"
option...you are totally unable to print anything.
What avenue do I use to reinstall Adobe Reader 8.0, which worked very
well with my system, windows vista home basic, and uninstall Adobe
    Reader 9.0.
Any help will be much appreciated.

  • Word 2010 - "Connecting to printer" message when opening documents at Server 2008 R2 Terminal server

Our users experience sometimes the message "connecting to printer" while they open a document in Word 2010 (32-bit) on our Server 2008 R2 Terminal Server. This is behavior
isn't consequent but random. The default printer in this environment is a Net2Printer-printerdriver (1.16) which redirects the print jobs (in PDF-format) to the local client's default printer. This feature works well. We don't want to change the default printer
because this is the right one to use by our users.
After a long seeking trip on the internet I've found the Microsoft hotfix KB974991 which can fix this issue for Word 2007. My question is, is this also usable for Word
2010 (32-bit) and if not, is there maybe another fix for the 2010 version available?
Any other suggestions or workarounds are welcome!

    Hi,
Please change following options test if it works:
    Ÿ
    Print proofs quickly
Enable the Draft output option. When you use this option, the document prints with minimal formatting. Therefore, the document
may print faster. This option is ideal for printing proofs.
To enable the Draft output option, follow these steps.
Note Some printers may not support this option.
    Start Word.
    Click File, and then click
    Word Options.
In the Word Options dialog box, click Advanced, and then scroll down to the Printing
    section.
Click to select the Use draft quality check box, and then click OK.
    Ÿ
Use the background printing option that best fits your requirements
When background printing is enabled, you can continue to work in Word while your document prints in the background. Background printing uses additional
memory, and your document may print more slowly.
When background printing is disabled, your document prints faster. However you cannot work in Word until the print job is completed. If you do not have
to continue to work in Word while your document prints, disable background printing to speed up printing.
To do this, follow these steps:
    Start Word.
    Click File, and then click
    Word Options.
In the Word Options dialog box, click Advanced, and then scroll down to the Printing
    section.
Click to clear the Print in background check box, and then click OK.
    Best regards

We got a lot of LaserJet m1212nf printers, installed the SAME driver version on server and desktops and nothing is printed using Easy Print. No errors, no messages but nothing is printed, only when a test page is printed the server show an alert: "No test page can be printed".
After that we try to use the HP driver instead of the TS Easy Print, forcing the group policy to use the Hp driver first. But the terminal server always use the Easy Print driver so we are in the same way.
So we try another thing... THE XPS DRIVER... but it doesn't works on the desktop PC, we try to print a test page from the printer desktop properties but "No test page can be printed" is shown...    my god!!!
