Testing DC in board

Hello There, I have bought a clam with a dead DC inboard (so the seller says). I have bought two dead logic boards off eBay in the hope that at least one of them has a good DC in board. Is there a way I can test the DC inboards them without having to take apart the clam and fit them one at a time?

Hello Out, there all you budding 'electricians' if I plug the power adapter into a DC inboard the turn on the power how will I tell if it works? I will be wearing my wellies and sporting rubber gloves. No flowers please, just donations to the Mad mac woman foundation - serivce to be arranged!!

  • Is there a way of testing the logic board via Terminal?

About 5 days ago, my mac book pro experienced the gray screen flashing folder scenario, telling me that it can't find the OS.
I opened in Internet Recovery mode, and when opening disk utility to check my hard drive, the hard drive didn't show.
After a breif call to apple support, it looked like my hard drive was kapput, so I bought another hard drive (something I've wanted to upgrade for a while anyway).
The new hard drive is a seagate momentus xt 750GB, and fairly sure it's compatible as I watched a youtube vid showing me how to replace the hard drive with the very same drive.
The disk utility cannot find this hard drive either, which means it could be a number of things, the worst being an issue with the logic board..
I cannot open in apple diagnostic mode, but I can access terminal without an OS, can I check the logic board, or anything else that could be causing the problem from there?
I'm trying to find out as much as I can about the problem before I have to pay to get it diagnosed.. hopefully it just needs a replacement SATA cable!
    Thanks all,
    Joe

Did you format the new drive?  This can be done with the Internet Recovery Mode. Try booting holding the command option R keys to get to Disk Utility.

You can run the Apple Hardware Test / Apple Diagnostics:
may not be aware is that Apple dumped AHT this past June. New Macs, introduced in June 2013 or later, no longer include the software. Instead, they have an entirely new diagnostic application called, appropriately enough, Apple Diagnostics. You access Diagnostics exactly the same way as you do AHT: Hold down the D key at startup.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5781
New MacBooks can access HardWareTest by rebooting holding the D key, no disk required.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1509
or older machines Boot off your Install Disk while holding down the D key, (not c key), then run the extended Apple Hardware Test. Some disks require you to use the Option key at bootup to select AHT. Some models have a separate AHT CD.
If any error codes are generated, post that code back here for interpretation.

  • Test points logic board on macbook pro a1278

    Hi all,
I have recently come across a unit that seems to power up but i get no image from the LCD or an external monitor.
I did disconect the dvd drive and the fan on the motherboard came on, which is nice, but still no image.
    My questions:
Is there a way to test (DMM) to see if the data video cable or inverter are the culprits?
Are they tests points on the logic board  I can measure to see if I can pinpoint what circuit is causing this behavior?
Any help or suggestions are greatly appreaciated!
    Thanks!
    Nate

If you weren't able to de-authorize your MBP before sending it in for the logic board to be replaced, I don't believe you can reset or de authorize all currently authorized computers until you reach or authorize 5 computers. You can then do a complete reset or de-authorize all authorized computers followed by re-authorizing the computer you are currently using.

  • Automated tester of circuit boards

I am developing code in labview to perform automated testing on various circuit boards.  If you take a look at my program so far I am using stacked sequence that performs various steps in each sequence with various time delays. As you can see a lot of the same tests are performed over and over again such as checking ACC Cold, Ignition Cold, and +12V Machine. You can also see that I have an LED on the front panel for everytime one of those are checked, ideally though what I want is just one LED for each of those tests that will come on and off between each step/sequence to let me know that each step is performing the way it is supposed to. Also what I have not yet been able to figure out is how at the end of the testing to turn off all the LEDs that are still on because currently they stay on permanently until I exit out of labview and get back in. Also you can see that in each stacked sequence I have a text box saying what is going on, I know there is a way to have that message displayed on the front panel and have it change between every sequence...eventually I want to have error messages put in place so if one of the steps failed such as checking the ACC Cold an error message would pop up on the front panel. I know this is a lot but if you have time take a look at my program attached and give me some feedback.

I also noticed frame 4 "Apply: +12V Machine Wait: 1.5 sec". I once learned long time ago that this is the wrong way of doing it, because you might end up with  "Wait: 1.5 sec Apply: +12V Machine ". Since you have no control of the execution order in this case. This because there are no dataflow between the "Apply: +12V Machine " and "Wait: 1.5 sec" functions. A frame should be used in this case
Besides which, my opinion is that Express VIs Carthage must be destroyed deleted
(Sorry no Labview "brag list" so far)

that is not correct. the cpu is built for up to 90°C on die surface, as amd says in it's white papers. to avoid probs, you should keep the temps under 65°C, or better around 60°C. anaything above could be problematic, anything below is nice

that is absolutely correct, the lower the temps, the longer the cpu will live. but  60-65°C will lower the livetime for about 1 year. so the cpu won't live 15, but 14 years, or so....

  • Does Apple Hardware Test cover the Logic Board

    Hello,
I was wondering whether the Apple Hardware Test tests the Logic Board. Would I have to do a extensive scan? The reason I am asking is because I am having a possible issue with the sound chip and the Apple Store told me to go home and do a Hardware Test, but never said if the Logic Board is actually covered in testing. Thanks.

My understanding with the extended test is that it's run time will be based largely off how much RAM your system has. I always used the rule of thumb that it was 25-40 minutes per GB of RAM. I once ran an extended test on a Mac Pro system with 12GB of RAM that took almost 9 hours to run.
The AHT test is not designed to detect any/all hardware issues, even the extended test. Apple Service Providers (Retail Stores as well) have another software-based diagnostic tool that they run, which I believe to be superior to AHT in terms of detecting some issues (not all). Sometimes for specific issues with components on the logic board, there isn't a software test that's going to pick up the issue and you may need to go by what's occurring in the OS.

  • How can I acquire data in a PCI DAQ board using a SCXI rack?

    Hello.
I have an acquisition system that consists in:
    · 3 PCI DAQ boards:
    - PCI-MIO-16-E-1
    - PCI-6052-E
    - PCI-6034-E
    · 3 cables to connect PCI boards and SCXI modules
    · 1 SCXI chassis:
    - SCXI-1001
    · SCXI modules + terminal blocks:
    - 4x SCXI_1121 + SCXI_1320 (for voltage analog inputs)
    - 1x SCXI_1520 + SCXI_1314 (for strain gauges)
    - 1x SCXI_1530 (for accelerometers)
I have been trying to acquire different signals (specially voltage signals that are easier to reproduce) but I haven't been able to do it. I can't read anything from MAX or LabView. I have tested the PCI boards with a SCB68 terminal block (without any SCXI component) and they work properly. Problems appear when I use the SCXI chassis and the SCXI modules. I don't know if there is a problem with the hardware or it is a wrong configuration.
I guess channels in the SCXI modules correspond to analog input channels in the PCI board they are connected to, but I don't know if I have to read data from analog input channels of the PCI boards or from SCXI channels that appear in MAX (I have tried both posibilities, but they don't seem to work).
I don't know if I have to use Differential, RSE or NRSE configuration. I have tried all of them. Sometimes I only read noise, sometimes signal is fixed in a limit value (maximum or minimum, it depends), sometimes it's fixed in a value near zero,... I have changed connections and configuration options so many times I can't exactly say when one thing or another happens.
I have tested only one PCI board with only a SCXI module in order to avoid interaction and confusion. Nothing.
I think I have tried changing almost every option in MAX, but it doesn't work.
I'm sure I'm missing something and solution is quite simple, but I can't find it.
Can anybody explain to me how to connect and configure my system to read any signal? I only need a few steps or highlights. Maybe some clues about what the problem can be.
    Thanks!

I have several comments and suggestions:
    A) Have you "added a device" in MAX and actually added the SCXI chassis? This step is necessary to get the chassis to work. Click on "add a device" and choose the 1001 chassis . Do this for one DAQ card and one module only initially. The Set Up wizard should walk you through the configuration. If you are unable to add a chassis within MAX, I suspect the chassis is not working correctly.
    B) Once configured, you can examine the SCXI channels in MAX as follows:
    1) Open the DAQ card in MAX and Open the Test Panels
    2) For the SCXI channel to view, use the following convention OB0!sc(n)!md(m)!ch where the letter (n) corresponds to the chassis number in MAX (usually = 1), the letter (m) corresponds to the module number (slot) where the module is located in the chassis, and (ch) represents the channel(or channels) you wish to view. So presuming chassis ID=1, and a module in slot 1, and you wish to view channel 3, you would type the following in the channel field for the DAQ card channel to view:
    OB0!sc1!md1!3 (note OB0!sc1!md1!3:6 will display channels 3 through 6)
All of the SCXI channels for a given DAQ card are multiplexed through channel 0 of the DAQ card, Channels 1 and up are not used, hence the initial three characters in the SCXI call refer to "On-Board Channel 0 (OB0)"
    C) For the subsequent set up, it will be necessary to first add the additional modules to the chassis (when powered off). Then open MAX and update the chassis. (If you get an error then simply delete the chassis reference in MAX and add a new chassis). You will then be required to set the interface mode of each module as either parallel or multiplexed. In parallel mode, you associate a distinct module with a distinct DAQ card in the host PC. For those DAQ cards that will address multiple modules, you must first configure the modules to be in adjacent slots in the chassis and then assign the first module to the cabled DAQ card - then all of the modules assigned to that DAQ card should be configured in "multiplexed" mode.
    D) Once the chassis has been properly configured, you can click on each module and set the gains, filters, and terminal block types.
I hope that this helps to get you started.

  • New Z97 Gaming AC board and MSI gtx780

    All,
Been banging my head against the wall all night on this. Hopefully its something easy. Got my new rig assembled:
    I5 4670k
    MSI Z97-Gaming 9 AC LGA 1150 Intel Z97
    MSI Gaming N780 TF 3GD5/OC GeForce GTX 780 3GB
Have a M.2 intel SSD installed
Windows 8.1 64 installed no issues
For the life of me, I can not get the motherboard to detect the 780, I updated to the latest bios using the USB flash utility, no issues. Completed successfully.
Using the Board viewer it shows nothing in the PCIE slot, I have also tried SLOT 2 still no luck.
The MB still does not show anything inserted into the slot.
    Any suggestions would greatly appreciated...
    Thanks in advance

Well, wish I had good news, but not so much. With everything setup on a test bench the board wont even post with a card plugged into the PCIE slot. Remove the card post, and into the bios every time. Tried clearing CMOS, all 3 PCIE slots just a no go.
RMA is issued and it will be going back  tomorrow.
*Fingers crossed on the new board*
Thanks for all the suggestions, will let you know what happens when the new board arrives.
    Cheers

  • How to test my built-in ethernet?

    Hello,
Got a G4 MDD dual 1.25 and my question pertains to testing the on-board ethernet port. Is there a way to test this without having to plug something into it? All I want to do is make sure its working. While I am using airport, the built-in ethernet port says its not active.

Launch the Network utility in Apllications/Utilities/ and you should be able to see the Ethernet device...
yes, t does dissapear from the system preferences network pane when not in use : )

  • Is 1.3 Bios really better than 1.52B?? Neo2 Board and Some Observations!

Hi All... I read this post on the forums and it got me thinking and i did some fiddling and made some observations..
This is whith regard to the 1.3Bios being better than the 1.52B Bios.. because it would let you run in turbo mode...
Ok i've spent the last 60mins testing and i came up with the following..
    1.3BIOS
With the 1.3Bios.. no matter what memory timings u set... it does'nt show in CPU-Z and it does'nt make a difference in the memory bandwith scores...
For example my ram was rated at 2.5-3-3-8 .. i changed it to 2.5-2-3-8 .. it did'nt change and my scores remained the same..
Going from Slow to Fast to Turbo.. did'nt incrase my scores.. actually.. donno how.. but i got a decrease in scores..
The only thing that was noticable was that MSI core-center overclocks the CPU a lil more than what is set in BIOS..
    1.52B BIOS
With the 1.52B Bios... u can change the memory timings and it does show in CPU-Z and it makes a massive difference with Sisoft sandra.. 250mbps more..
What u set in the bios .. u get with the 1.52B.. Corecenter does'nt mess around and overclock it more..
Going from Slow to Turbo did give me an increase in scores.. slightly..
Im now running Ultra-Turbo.. and i get a sisoft bandwith score of 5250Mbps at 3.21G..
    CONCLUSION
So infact i think the 1.52B is better than the 1.3 . I don't have a Radeon so i donno how these bios's work with the cards cause i've read about some problems... I'm getting one soon so 'ill post some info about that in a fortnight..
I personally think this board is great.. atleast the one i have.. never had a problem.. had it for 3 months.. i have a revision 1.. no DOT sticker.. and just the Neo2-S version... I've used Spectec 333 on this board too (dual) had no problems..
Wish i had some DDR-500 so i could test whether this board can do 1:1 above 250...whether it has a 1:1 limitation above 285 like some other boards.. that is my only doubt.. anywayz.. i hope atleast some of u are sailing as smoothly with this board as i have..
Get some nice ram .. this Twinmos Dual channel kit DDR400 with the Twinmos chips are really great.. and i recommend it..

That´s wrong. RAM-Settings are displayed fine. Turbo does make a BIG difference in scores. About 15% more performance. In Games and in benchmarks like 3dmark and sandra, too.

  • Ms-6330 boards & sudden death

About a year ago or so i was buying a new computer. I got my hands on a Ms-6330 board (probably k7t pro). I came here to this forum to read about any possible bugs in it and found out they often just die for no reason. Well i tested the board and what do you know, the board died. Of course i didn't buy it.
Now i got my hands on a dead k7t pro board with 700 Mhz duron. It won't start. Only 4 red lights and nothing happends. The processor is working, it's been tested with another board. When i was reading about the dead boards, i faintly remember something about the capasitors possibly being bad or something similar. So i'm asking: was there found a solution for making the boards to come alive again?
Took the battery off it. it's been unistalled for a week now and i'll keep it off for another week, then i'll test, if for some strange reason i'd be so lucky, that it'd work.

Wow I am not alone...This is my second ms-6330 K7T Pro motherboard that died all of a sudden on me. I installed a tbred 1.1ghz and within a couple of hours, the MB would just shutoff and never boot up again..If there is a way to fix this plz plz reply. Better yet, do you think MSI has finally fixed this problem because this is my "SECOND" ms-6330 that has died on me. I'm tired of having to send it back everytime it dies on me..I'll be poor by then.
    thanks

  • 1.8Ghz & Dual 2.0Ghz Logic Boards/Power Supply

I have a perfectly fine working 1.8ghz G5. I also have a dual 2.0Ghz G5. However, the dual doesn't power up. I'm pretty sure it's the power supply. But, I'm not positive.
My question is. Is it possible to put the dual 2.0 logic board into my 1.8ghz machine? The inside of the cases look very similar. Or is there a way to test the logic board of the 2.0 before I take everything apart?
    Thanks..

The CPU speed of a PowerMac G5 is always 2x the bus speed or less. Thus, with the 900 MHz bus speed of the 1.8 GHz motherboard, your 2.0 GHz CPUs would clock down to 1.8 GHz at best.

  • Boards 4472B problems

    Hello everyone,
We recently bought two boards PCI 4472B. One of them has a channel (#5) that is working different compared to the others and the other board also has a difference in the channel 3 but with lower magnitude.
We made the following steps: 1)      Both boards were installed in a computer with 2 PCI sockets. The software used is NI-DAQmx 8.0 and LabView 7.0 Professional (Sound and Vibration toolset 3.0)2)      The boards were installed under recommendations3)      The tests on each board were performed using 3 triaxial accelerometers (100mV/G’s) using AC Input Coupling and IEPE Signal Conditioning Enable (4mA)  Attached you will find the graphs obtained (amplitude in m/s2): Attachment01
As it can be seen on the attachment the cannel #5 (Acceleration4) has a high negative offset.  Additionally was performed a self calibrating (with NI  DAQmx) on the most problematic board and the results can be seen on the attachment02. At the other board, since it was not measuring correctly it was performed the self calibrating getting the results shown on the attachment03.
The acquisition was set up as it can be seen on the attachment04. When we measure with no accelerometer connected the signal obtained can be seen on the attachment05. It can be seen that the channel #3 has an unacceptable offset and the other channels are better but not centered at cero.  Then we performed some measurements using the following hardware:
Calibration Exciter Type 4294 (Brüel & Kjær) Frequency: 159.2 Hz;   Level: 10 m/s^2 rms.
    Accelerometer ENDEVCO Model 751-10      (10 mV/g)
    Cable SMB 100 2-FT
    Cable ENDEVCO 3061 A
And the results are displayed on the attachement06. It can be seen that the board acquire the right waveform but carried on a DC level that, even worst, is not constant. When the accelerometer was disconnected again the the DC offset level change (see attachment07 and compare with attachment05).  How can we manage this problem because we are loosing precious time in a project development. Thank you.

    Hi John S:
We use the interior powered (4mA), in AC coupled mode.
    Without the accelerometers connected  obtained the graphs: Attachment01;
We see that Yesterday the amplitude was 12-19mV,but today it's 9-13mV.
With the accelerometers connected to AI0(X)\AI1(Y)\AI2(Z) the graghs obtained:Attachment02
The amplitude decreased to 6-7mV which connected the accelerometers, the other decreased nearly 1mV.
Also we have one USB-4431,we connected it to the same computer and set it to AC coupled  mode  use interior powered (2.1mA  the max current the USB-4472 can support), then we obtained the graph as this:
Without the accelerometers connected the graphs obtained: Attachment03,
With the some accelerometers connected to AI0(X)\AI1(Y)\AI2(Z) the graghs obtained:Attachment04.

  • My Power Supply Blew Up Is My Board or Hard Drive Damaged?

Bought myself a Geforce 4 4200 Ti on Saturday ) , installed it, loaded the drivers etc.. and everything was perfect.
I then ran 3dMark 2002SE 5 times on a loop, I left my machine running, then it just switched off.
I tried the power button, the reset button etc.. nothing worked, I then pulled out the power cord and put it back in, I was then presented with a blue flash   a bang, and lovely smell of smouldering ;( .
I rushed out to buy a new case and got the system up and running after formatting the hard drive, the system now takes much longer to load considering it was a clean Install, and gets slugish at times - so I reakon some damage has been done, but I'm not sure if its the HD or the Mobo.
Is there anyway of knowing/any software to test if the board has been damaged. I've ran all of the Maxtor tests and the hard drive passed, but the performance issue seems to be linked with the HD.
Also what would cause my p/s to blow in the 1st place, it was a 350w and less than a year old.

I remember a similar problem to this, when the 1st ATA133 boards came out I built a new machine can't remember which board, all I can remember is that the HD ran like a donkey until I installed the 4in1 IDE drivers. And thats very similar to the problem I'm having now, before I could copy+load a program+double click a directory and the system would cope, now it just chugs along, this is why I'm focusing on the HD. It would be nice to get to the bottom of it though as both are a similar price to replace should I need to.
I am currently running the new Hyperion drivers and was doing so before, with no problems, so i think they can be ruled out.
Only other thing is I've flashed my BIOS to the latest version, so I could have a config issue, anyone know the best configs to use for my 7200rpm ATA133 drive?
Also as I asked before is there any software that can test the board for damage?
Many thanks and your help is very much appreciated.

I finally got my program working for my automated testing on circuit boards...what I am trying to figure out is how to display errors on the front panel if one occurs. Right now its setup where its just showing that the test passed regardless if theres an error or not because of the boolean control next to the left shift register. How do I make it so that if one of the tests fails that the boolean on the front panel will display "FAILED"??? Im assuming I have to have some sort of digital logic in there such as an and gate or something....
