Text Field avoid tab into label

Is there a way to avoid tabbing into a label.
I have several Text Fields with as "Required with Help" and the user would like to tab thru the Text field without having to tab out of the label.
Is that possible.

This can be controlled using the HTML <tt>tabindex</tt> attribute. See +{thread:id=1246565}+ for a previous discussion on this.
Basically, <tt>tabindex</tt> should NOT be applied to <tt>label</tt> elements. However in labels of type "Required with help", the help links should be accessible via tab presses on the keyboard. In this case, I'd say the user is wrong and it makes sense for the help link to receive focus before the text item, so that the help relating to the item can be accessed before entering a value. If they can't be convinced of this, then set <tt>tabindex</tt> values for the text items and label help links sequenced so that the items are accessed before the help links.

Inserting in-line variable into a text field

Hello,
I want to add a variable within a text field (dymanic value within a sentence). Basically, I want the form to display something like the following:
"The person named <person name> is an employee of the company"
The only way I could do this so far is by creating three elements on the form: the first is a text element that contains "The person named", the seond is a text field element with no label that contains the "<person name>" variable, and the third is another text element that contains "is an employee of the company."
I don't really like this approach as if the name of the employee is too long, it might get cut off. If it was too short, there will be a lot of extra space between the name and the rest of the sentence.
Another solution is to pass a string variable with the complete text (I'll have to build the string before calling the form). Similarly, I can pass an internal table with the text. I don't think either of these two solutions is ideal as LifeCycle designer should provide an easier way to do so (just like in SmartForms).

This is possible to add a dynamic text between the static text in Adobe form.
For that suppose you have a Static Text field TEXT1 on your layout. Just right click over the text inside this field and on the pop-up choose "Floating Text". It will create a textfield in your subform. Now bind this newly created textfield to the field in the datasource say PERNR in your case.
It will appear like: "The person named is an employee of the company"
In this way you can add a dynamic text in between your static text in a text field.

Safari 5.1.2 keeps changing text field randomly on text input

Hello everybody.
Safari keeps changing the text field on input, do you know how to correct this issue?
Here is an example:
Let's say I load www.google.com, it appears in the safari window as usual.
Suppose I begin to type a search in the google search field at the top right of the safari window (not the one on the google page)
if when doing this the sentence is long for the search, at some point randomly, the rest of the text will be entered this time in the google search text field on the google page! (which is the very next text field) So when I hit enter it makes google search half of my request...
Safari changed the text field I was into with no warning. I want to say I do not press tab at any moment.
This is annoying really, and this does not appear anywhere else than in Safari. It seems the issue is not systematic, but appears quite often.
I have no universal access setting except "enable access for assistive device"
I had to check this box upon installing a software in the past but I can't remember what it was.
Perhaps the problem I have is linked to some window refreshing?

Try deleting the cache associated with Safari ...
Quit Safari.
Go to ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari/Cache.db.
Move the Cache.db file to the Trash.
Relaunch Safari to test.
I had to check this box upon installing a software in the past but I can't remember what it was.
Open System Preferences > Universal Access
Make sure the box next to: Enable access for aassitive devices is deselected.

How to submit page by hitting "enter" in a text field - Solution

Hi,
I had this problem yesterday and thought it may come in handy for others who run into the same issue.
My page had 2 text fields. Upon hitting enter in either of the boxes I wanted the page to submit. When only 1 text field was present it worked, however once the second field was added this stopped working.
After reading a bit (http://ppewww.ph.gla.ac.uk/~flavell/www/formquestion.html) I fount that "When there is only one single-line text input field in a form, the user agent should accept Enter in that field as a request to submit the form.". This would explain why it worked with only 1 field, but not with 2.
After doing some testing I found that to make it work with 2 or more text fields, I needed to add a submit button. This is not the same as a button in APEX. In APEX "button" just has a onClick call to a submit function. You need a native HTML submit button.
In order to do that I created text field. Deleted the label, and set the static value to "Search" (this was for my search application). In the page attributes I added the following:

Note: I added extra spaces in the tags so they would display properly.
This function changes the button type to submit.
Now when I have 2 or more text forms it submits when I hit enter in either one.

Select List as a child to a text field?

I'm using APEX 4.1. I have a Select List that has a Cascading LOV Parent Item that is just another text field, the LOV sql has the text field in the where clause. When I type a few characters into the text field and tab to the Select List the list is filtered by the characters from the text field, but if I use the mouse and click the down arrow of the Select List I have to click twice before the list will be populated. Does anyone know why this is happening?

I would imagine it's a similar issue to the old 'mouse-navigate' in forms where no change event has fired while processing the arrow click. You may find different results in different browsers?
You may be able to solve your problem with a mouse-click DA on your select list? or something similar, who'se action refreshes that select list item.

I've created a series of buttons in an illustration and made
them into movie clip symbols in Illustrator. I then created some
text fields for the button labels and assigned them as dynamic text
in the Flash Text panel in Illustrator.
When I import the illustration into Flash and test the movie,
I get this error message:

Text Field Problems

Subject: Creating a form for user input.
The text field allows the user to type in more information than the visible portion of the text field. I see where I can limit the number of characters however this is not a good option. Depending on the character or if it is capitalized the total length of the string will change where some text will be hidden or leave too much space before the end. How can the text field stop the user from adding more text when reaching the end?
Another question:
My form asks a question where the answer starts on the same line and then continues below. The text field below is much wider (width of the page) where I can't find the option of an odd shape text field to accommodate this. So far I will place a text field on the short line and add another text field on the line below. I can't find where the two text fields can be joined and the text cascade from one to the other.
My impressioin:
So far I am not very impressed with the from option as the text fields cannot be sized through the properties.
You cannot change the text box that the form adds to a check box without deleting the text field and creating a check box. Additionally if you copy and paste a check box multiple times it creates a new check box that is connected to the original. You have to rename each check box otherwise if the user selects a check box all check boxes that was copied and paste will receive a check.
Similarly if you copy a text field and paste into the form without renaming the field anything you type into the first text field will automatically be shown in all text fields that were paste into the form.
The text box height does not resize when selecting a font size. You have to go out of edit and type into the text field to see if the complete font will be shown or there is too much extra space.
There has to be a better form making software available. Can anyone provide information towards other software that may be more suitable and eliminate the issues pointed out above?

To prevent the user from entering text beyond the size of the field - set the font's size to anything other than 'Auto', and uncheck the 'Scroll long text' and 'Multiline' checkboxes in the 'Options' tab. If you need multiline text, the text will always scroll. Setting the size to 'Auto' will reduce the text to fit the box (it will fit to one line if multiline is off, or to the entire box if multiline is on)
Most of your complaints I don't agree with. Why should the field resize when you change the font size? That's up to you to decide the size/position/properties of the field. You do have the ability to select multiple fields and set them to the same height/width/both.
And copy pasting a field shares the same value, that's a good thing. That allows you to show the same information in multiple areas easily. You need to change the field's name if you want to have a different value (shouldn't the field's name be different if the value it represents is different?).
There is an alternative to Acrobat PDF forms, you can use Adobe Livecycle to create dynamic PDF forms. It is much more advanced (you can create dynamic fields which change size, can be added as line items, and much more). It's also a much larger learning curve.
If you think using Acrobats form features a problem, try creating a form in Microsoft Word.

How do you auto-populate a text field based on entries in other text fields?

I would like to be able to have a text field that populates as "Complete" or "Incomplete" based on whether all the mandatory text fields have been filled out or not.
For example, if the "First Name," "Last Name," and "City" text fields are not filled out, the "completion status" text field will show "Incomplete" and once they are filled out, the "completion status" text field will turn into "Complete."
How would I do this using javascript? I've searched the web for a tutorial, but most of the results seem to be dropdown-centric.
Please point me in the right direction!

Professional 8 - Can't Get Rid of Tab Number In Text Field

Hello,
I hope someone can help me with this issue - when I create a text field on a PDF document and type text in the field, a "1" appears in the upper left hand corner (it's enclosed in a little black bordered box). If it was only in the PDF file itself I could deal with it, but unfortunately it shows when I print the document too. I've got some advice that it's the Tab function in Professional 8, but when I look for a way of turning it off or at least preventing it from showing up in the print, I can't find anything that works. Adobe support has been no help, there still "looking into it". I was hoping that perhaps someone has had a similar situation and could shed some light?.....

I've attached an example of what's happening though I don't know if you'll be able to view the "1" in the upper left hand corner of the Text Field unless you have similar settings in Professional 8 (just a guessbecause Tech Support at Adobe couldn't see it so I sent a screen shot as well), so I've also attached a screen shot of the bottom of the document where the Text Field is showing the "1" in the corner.
Things I've tried from suggestions made:
1) You have a tab order in your form turned ON. This is a standard feature of Adobe Acrobat. This is the only way Acrobat will display little numbers in the left-hand corner of the text field. However, tab order should not be visible during printing or entering data. These numbers are only displayed while editing form fields using "Form > Edit Fields in Acrobat...." - (Which I didn't use to create the Text Field, I used "Tools", "Forms", "Text Field Tool")
2) "Print" dialog. Select "Document" under "Comments and Forms" pull-down menu to avoid printing any markup or comments.
I suspect that tab order might get printed for some reason you select anything else besides "Document". - (I've tried everything is this menu)
3) 1. Open your PDF form.

Is there a way to change an interactive text field back into a picture box?

I'm working on recreating an interactive form and I mistakenly made a picture box a text field when I should have turned it into a regular text box.
I can't seem to find a way to change it back.
All my boxes are lined up and sized perfectly right now, so I'd rather not have to re-draw the box and re-align and measure everything again if I can avoid it.

Select text field with Selection tool. Object > Interactive > Convert to Object. Place your picture into the frame.

Need to find table/field behind "Item long text" field in Notes tab in FB70

Hello,
To print a custom FI invoice, I need to access the data entered in the "Item long text" field of the Notes tab in FB70. To test, I used 5000 characters in that field to make sure it stood out from the rest of the data. F1 help does nothing on that field, and even running an SQL trace (ST05) doesn't show the text in that field being entered into any table. I tried F1 on a nearby field and got a structure instead of a table, so I investigated the structure through SE11 but found no character field with such a large capacity. How else can I find where that field is stored?

Thanks! It took a while, but with your help and a few other pages I managed to piece together an answer.
Vinod helpfully explained that the text name is a concatenation of various fields, but didn't specify how to find the line item ID. If you go to table STXH (as hinted by Brad and confirmed [here|http://fuller.mit.edu/SAPWebDocs/LongComment.html]) and search for texts created today (or whenever you were testing), you'll see the text name ends in '001' after GJAHR, so the line item ID is '001' regardless of how many line items you enter in the invoice.
Armed with that info, you can call READ_TEXT and loop through the results to concatenate the contents of each TDLINE field. (FB70 automatically breaks the user-entered text into different lines even if the user didn't press Enter, and each line gets its own record in the results.)

How to change the font size of Text Box Properties Appearance tab into 2 decimal digit. I am uanble to modify it to 5.38 pt for example. Its only allowing to 1 decimal place.

Click on each field and the choose Properties from either File menu (or if on Mac hold dow mouse button until context menu appears choose properties)
go to Font
choose desired size and type font,you can choose to make this the default.
Do this with each field.
Or if you have a lot of fields:
while one is selected select all of them
then go to fonts in properties
change Font and size and make default.

Tab key no longer moves between text fields on a web page

Since upgrading to Mac OS X 10.4.9, my Safari v. 2.0.4 (419.3) is suffering from a bizarre symptom: the tab key no longer moves the insertion point among the various single-line text-entry fields on a page, but rather inserts a tab character within the field! Shift-tab, which used to move the insertion point back one field, does nothing.
Interestingly, when in a block-text field -- such as the one I'm using to compose this message topic -- the tab key takes me to the next field as expected. It also works when the insertion point is in the URL field or Google search field in the browser interface itself. It's only when I'm typing into a web page itself that it doesn't behave properly.
Makes filling out long forms a real pain.
Surely this isn't happening to everyone, or someone else would have mentioned it ... but can anyone reproduce it? Got any suggestions for clearing it up? I'm not running any exotic Safari add-ons, just the usual complement of plug-ins, none of which seem relevant to this problem, which involves normal HTML web pages.

There were no file changes to Safari in the 10.4.9 update. There were a number of file changes to the System Library, however, these types of changes usually affect applications across-the-board. MacFixit has a special report and related issues and work-arounds on their site. Not sure if you need to be a subscribed member to see the information, however, it might be worth a look.
FWIW, I haven't seen any mention about the problem you reported on their forum, or home page report.
I suggested your marking the thread "answered" as I thought you were complete with the thread given the disappearance of the problem. I'll be curious to see who else posts a similar problem.

PDF Text Field Form Label

Hello everyone. I was wondering if there was a way to make a label viewable in normal mode for a PDF text field form. I am making my PDF a form with a fillable text box in it. Well, I'd like the box name to show up when someone opens the PDF, not just if they only go into the edit form view. I hope I'm making sense. So far, the only thing I can think of is making a Button with the label above the fillable text box or make the text box a combo box. However, with a combo box, I can't edit how the text will look when it's typed in. Right now, though, when a person opens the PDF normally, the highlighted fillable text boxes show up but not the labels with them even though I have names entered in on Name and Tooltip.
Any suggestions?

Oh my gosh... I feel like such a dork!! I took a fresh look at it this morning, and the ONLY mistake I had was that I put the ending quotations in the wrong spot! I forgot to include (Optional) inside the quotations for the label!
I had this: if (!event.value) event.value = "Company Information" (Optional);
Instead of this: if (!event.value) event.value = "Company Information (Optional)";
Oi!! That was it! lol! I'm sorry about that. And yes, without those quotations, my text form fields don't work. I hadn't seen your message before (until now) asking for me to clarify that. I'm sorry! That's the only spot I needed quotations. If I don't have them, Adobe tells me that I'm missing characters.
