TextItem.content with Japanese / Chinese letters

Hi,
I am coding a script which combines an image with text - now my problem is that it has to work in different languages (e. g. with Japanese / Chinese kanji) and Photoshop CS3 does only return squares. If I copy&paste the wished text manually to a text block in Photoshop (I mean doing the script's work completely by hand) it will work fine; but it seems Photoshop can't identify the text I put in via script. Does anyone know how to solve this problem? I use 'Arial Unicode MS' as font and the javascript file's format is UTF-8. I would be very thankful if someone can help me.
Best regards, blubber

It's good practice to always include the app prefix when accessing app methods
and properties. app properties like 'name' being effectively global have caused
me more problems than I care to mention. When I look at my code and see a 'name'
symbol, I know that it is a local variable and not the global app property.
The only app methods that I actually use as globals are executeAction and
executeActionGet.
In PS7, there was no app object, but you could get around this by doing
app = this;
as the first line in your script. This would help make your script portable
between PS7 and later revs.

  • XFont with Japanese/Chinese characters

    Hi everyone!
    I've been dabbling in a lot of lightweight software lately (trying out i3/wmii) and often I find these only support xfonts (the ones you choose through xfontsel) and not xft.  I'm having a lot of trouble trying to find one that can display Unicode chars+Japanese+Chinese.  Is there any good-looking (not fancy, but easy on the eyes) font that covers everything?

    I seem to have the same exact problem. There seems to be a major bug in ODP.net.
    I've talked to our onsite Oracle Support (which are actual Oracle employees) about this, they didn't even know ODP.NET.....lol if that doesn't say everything..... :)
    Is anyone out there, that know how to configure ODP.NET correctly (or NLS_LANG on Client or in DB) so it actually inserts characters correctly ("as is") into the DB?

  • Export song list with Japanese, Chinese and some Korean characters

    I had tried to export my list of songs (which consist mainly of Japanese songs, some Chinese songs and a few Korean) using .xml but it seems like everytime I try to open it using Firefox or IE, both browsers will freeze and hang. I tried exporting as .txt, but non-English character will appear as question marks.
    May I know if there is any other better way for me to export my song lists?

    Do you not also have the choice Unicode Text in Format when you do Export?

  • Rotated ASCII characters overlap in Text Layout Framework with specific Japanese/Chinese fonts

    I am trying to layout rotated text with Text Layout Framework. Mostly okay, but when it comes to specific Japanese/Chinese fonts, problem happens - "hankaku" alphanumeric characters(in other words, ASCII characters) overlap in those fonts. (Full-width "zenkaku" characters have no problem, though)
    When "HG丸ゴシックM-PRO" or "HG正楷書体-PRO" are specified as fontFamily(both come with Office - common fonts in Japanese Windows environment), characters are wholly overlapped.
    When "SimSun", "NSimSun" or "SimHei" are specified as fontFamily(Chinese fonts, all come with Japanese Windows XP), characters are slightly overlapped.
    If anyone knows a solution or a workaround to this, please let me know.

    Not that I know of. Your problem is that you're loading the
    content
    dynamically, so you have no idea what it will contain.
    There's normally
    no need to embed Japanese fonts for a Japanese audience,
    because they
    already have the main fonts, such as Mincho, Gothic, or Osaka
    on their
    machine. Perhaps you'll just have to give up the idea of
    rotation.

  • Replace Chinese Kanji character with Japanese Kanji and vice versa.

    Hi Everyone,
    Maybe this thread is for someone who knows the difference between Chinese Kanji and Japanese Kanji.
    So, let me ask you a question.
    There are more than two characters in Kanji. Several ones for Chinese and one for Japanese Kanji.
    For example, the word body can be written in Kanji as 體 in Chinese way and 体 in Japanese way.
    But the meanings are same for these characters. And of course, unicodes for these two ones are different.
    So about code, I'm developing a simple software for replacing a certain set of Chinese Kanji characters with Japanese Kanji characters.
    Let's say there is a certain string.
    string str_sentence=僕の體は大きいです。(Let's just ignore the meaning).
    So I want to replace 體 with 体.
    I used below code.
    str_sentence.Replace(體, 体)
    But it didn't work!
    MessageBox.Show(str_sentence) showed original sentence without replacing the character!
    So I assume that actually, .NET regards these two characters as same ones.
    I tested below code.
    if(體 != 体)
    MessageBox.Show("Different!")
    And it showed the message.
    What do you think about this?
    Let me sing you forever

    Replace doesn't replace characters 'in-situ'. It returns a new string with the replacement.
    Try str_sentence = str_sentence.Replace(...)
    or var new_sentence = str_sentence.Replace(...)
    Strings in C# are immutable and can't be changed.

  • Problems working with Japanese characters found in filenames to determine invalid shortcuts

    Hi,
    I have written a script that uses test-path to query whether or not *.LNK shortcut files have valid Target Paths to determine whether or not the LNK files should be kept if invalid or contain temporary locations. This works perfectly for most shortcuts with
    the exception of those with filenames in Japanese/Chinese/Cyrillic fonts.
    The script is made up of the following action:-
    gci "$nextdrive\Users\$env:username\AppData\Roaming\microsoft\office\recent" -Filter *.lnk | % { $shell.CreateShortcut( $_.FullName ) } | ? { ( Test-Path ( $_.TargetPath )) -eq $false -or $_.TargetPath -like '*temporary internet files*' -or $_.TargetPath
    -like '*temp*'} | % { Remove-item -LiteralPath $_.FullName }
    If I run the script when a file name exists in the folder above such as : 1、目录.doc.LNK
    the Powershell script from the ISE returns the following error:-
    "Cannot bind argument to parameter 'Path' because it is an empty string.
    If I rename the .LNK file to something like 12345.doc.LNK, the powershell script successfully removes the file so I know that the issue is certainly related to the actual filename itself. Is there any sort of UTF, CJK or encoding option I need to configure
    here for this to work successfully?
    Thanks for taking the time to read this!
    Andrew

    The article Johan linked has some sample code which seems to address your issue (using Shell.Application instead of WScript.Shell). Here's a modification of your code that uses this technique:
    $shellApplication = New-Object -ComObject Shell.Application
    Get-ChildItem "$nextdrive\Users\$env:username\AppData\Roaming\microsoft\office\recent" -Filter *.lnk |
    ForEach-Object {
    try
    $shortcut = $shellApplication.Namespace(0).ParseName($_.FullName).GetLink
    if ((Test-Path -Path $shortcut.Path) -eq $false -or $shortcut.Path -like '*temporary internet files*' -or $shortcut.Path -like '*temp*')
    Remove-Item -LiteralPath $_.FullName
    catch
    Write-Error -ErrorRecord $_
    Alternatively, you can use the IShellLink COM class directly.  Looks like someone has already written a .NET wrapper for this:

  • Problem in working with Japanese data

    Hello,
    We have an application, which should work for both English and Japanese languages. Our application is working fine for English data but in case of Japanese, we are facing problems. In the application, there is a language setting, where the user can select either English or Japanese. This changes the language of the labels to English or Japanese. We are handling this thru' ResourceBundles. But the data that is entered can be independent of this. In English setting also, the data entered or diplayed could be Japanese. Now we are facing problems at vaious places -
    1. When we enter Japanese data and save it, it gets copied into the bean and if there is any error in the saving, the same data from bean comes back on the screen. This data doesn't appear properly in Japanese.
    2. When we try to retrieve the already saved data from database, it doesn't show poperly in Japanese.
    We are using our own 'toUnicode' function, which converts the data to Unicode before saving the data to database. Similarly, we have tried different encodings like SJIS / Shift_JIS / ISO-2022-JP at various places i.e. in 'Page' directive or in HTML Meta tag or various combinations of these two. Nothing is working reliably. Sometimes for some combination, data retained in the first case is correct but it can't be saved. Sometimes it works with Unicode, sometimes without Unicode. Some combination affects the Japanese labels as well. Otherwise the labels at least are displayed properly.
    The same code with just Shift_JIS setting in 'page' directive, worked well in IIS Server for both English and Japanese.
    What could be the problem in WebLogic? Does it matter if WL is installed on English or Japanese machine?
    Kindly answer ASAP, since the project is getting delayed.
    Thanking in anticipation...

    On yammer.com and linkedin.com, images for icons, like those that should display along the top of the screen do not display. Instead, I see a rectangle with numbers and letters. I've seen quite a few articles about the rectangles with numbers and letters that apply to characters but none involving images. I've also tried the steps in the article on troubleshooting images not displaying properly, and nothing seems to work.

  • Nls_lang for psp with Traditional Chinese

    I have two Oracle environments:
    1. Oracle 817 on Windows 2000 (eng) with Traditional Chinese as default locale, and
    2. Oracle 816 on Solaris with Oracle 9iAS portal.
    in both environment, I wanted to create a simple page as follows:
    <html>
    <head>
    <title>Welcome</title>
    <meta http-equiv="content-type" content="text/html; charset=big5">
    </head>
    <body>
    <h3>Welcome to this page</h3>
    Welcome Here
    </body>
    </html>
    If I put this page under a virtual directory of Apache, the client browser would change the encoding to Traditional Chinese (Big 5) if "Auto-Select" is selected in encoding. Now, I try to put this in a psp. The page comes up with encoding change to "Western European (ISO)". I view the source from the page and it is just the same as the one under a virtual directory of Apache.
    Why does this happen?
    How can I make the client browser change to "Traditional Chinese (Big 5)" encoding?
    I tried to set the NLS_LANG before using loadpsp but that didn't make any difference. Any idea?

    Do you mean that I will have problem later if I don't change the database character set?Yes , definitely. What you are doing is storing invalid multibyte characters into a single byte database. So each double byte BIG5 characters are being treated as 2 separate WE8ISO8859P1 (Latin1) characters. You are using an unsupported but common garbage in garbage out approach, so in that sense you are using Oracle as a garbage container :) .
    Let's look at some of the issues that you are going to have :-
    All SQL Functions are based on the property on the database character set WE8ISO8859P1. So LENGTH(), SUBSTR (), INSTR (), UPPER(), NLS_UPPER etc .. will yield incorrect results . For example a column with one BIG5 character and one ASCII character will return a length of 3 characters rather than 2 characters. And if you want to locate a specific character in a mix ASCII and BIG5 string using the SUBSTR() it will be very difficult, because to Oracle the string consists of all single byte Latin1 characters, it will not skip 2 bytes for a BIG5 character. Even if you don't have mix strings, you will need to have one routine for handling ASCII only and another for BIG5 strings.
    Invalid Data conversion , if your need to talk to another db using dblink say ,all the character conversion will be based on Latin1 to the target database character set mapping, so the receiver will lose all the source BIG5 characters and will get 2 Latin1 characters for each BIG5 char instead .
    Export and Import will have identical problems, character set conversion are performed during these operations, so all BIG5 characters will be lost. This also means that you can not load BIG5 data into your current DB using IMPORT or SQLLOADER without data corruption ...

  • Corrupted Japanese/Chinese fonts

    Hi,
    I'm using Windows 8 Professional RTM (dreamspark) right now and I'm having trouble viewing japanese/chinese fonts.
    Fonts are showing like squares.
    I've just noticed that when I copy/paste the folder name, it shows perfectly!
    When I was having the same problem on Windows 7, I've deleted the file FNTCACHE.DAT because it was corrupted. After a restart, everything was ok again.
    Not working on Windows 8, I have to login, logoff and login again. After that it shows correctly.
    Thank you.

    Windows 8 updated to the last version.
    Drivers and bios updated too.
    I ran Windows update again, couldn't find any updates.
    I'm having the same issue as the person on this forum
    http://gdgt.com/question/fix-japanese-text-in-windows-8-displaying-squares-icj/
    And I have to listen to some stranger on the internet with a solution to this problem, not MS support:
    "This is a known issue that Microsoft is trying to fix at the moment. Best thing I can advise you to
    do is that when this happens (I advise keeping a Japanese filename folder on the desktop so you can easily tell if it has) to log out of your account and log back in."

    I write japanese chinese and english on a daily basis and got used to it.
    Problem is that recently my mac started using the AZERTY input when I am typing chinese (I had reinstalled Mac OS), scrambling all my habits.
    Where do I set the input to QWERTY?
    I don't see any options in "International".

    Went to a fellow expat to try on his macbook pro he bought recently (unibody, Snow Leopard inside), it doesn't seems to make this smart switching thing... we tried switching from US to japanese then to french then to chinese then french then chinese again and it doesn't use the azerty layout.
    If it had worked, I would have gladly shelled out the 30 bucks for the upgrade as it could have solved the problem for me if it switched for that godforsaken azerty back to qwerty...
    I tried with different chinese input like wutabc or more exotic ones like jianyi and it still confuse A with Q and so on...
    This smart switching is on by default or am I just out of luck?

  • REQ: Nokia Messaging - Enable Japanese & Chinese i...

    Currently emails written in Chinese and Japanese are unreadable for phones from the Euro zone.
    Possible to enable this?

    The same method I used for the E72 should work since it uses a newer version of S60.
    You need to use Y-Browser to extract the three default font files or download the Nokia S60 SDK for N97 to get the three fonts from the SDK.
    Then you need to merge each font with HeiseiGothS60.ttf for the Japanese glyphs.
    You will then need to merge this new font you created with a Chinese font that contains both Simplified and Traditional Chinese glyphs (for example hei font)...But before you can merge any Chinese font you need to rescale the Chinese font so it matches the ones from Nokia. If you look at the following link and look at step 1 it explains what I mean:
    http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?t=55408
    So what you need to do is change the Ascent, Descent and Em Size on the Chinese font. Once you have done that you can then merge them into the 3 font files.
    Make sure not to use fonts that contain Korean glyhs...I've found during my test the fonts don't work.
    I hope this helps you...just give me a shout if you have any questions, I'm more than happy to help.

  • Bug report: A keyboard layout is incorrect on the remote with Japanese keyboard

    This is a bug report for Microst Remote Desktop
    ===================================================
    ## Summary
    A keyboard layout is incorrect on the remote with Japanese keyboard
    ## Version Information, I tested
    * Client
        * Case 1
            * MacBook Pro with JIS106 Keyboard
            * Mac OS X Lion 10.7.5
            * Microsoft Remote Desktop 8.0.24308
        * Case 2

            * Windows Server 2008R2 Datacenter Japanese
        * Case 3
            * Windows Server 2012R2 Datacenter Japanese
    ## Detail of bug
    When login from Mac OS X with Microsoft Remote Desktop, the keyboard layout is always incorrect on the remote.
    The client machine have a built-in keyboard of JIS 106 layout,
    and the primary language is set to Japanese.
    But on the remote, the keyboard layout is US 101.
    So a input of Shift+2 does not result " but @.
    I've seen the above behavior on the 3 remote enviornments described the above.
    This bug did not occcur with Microsoft Remote Desktop Connection Client for Mac 2.1.1, even if the system language is English and keyboard layout is Japanese.
    ## Captures
    I've took some of screen captures.
    I'm sorry for the capture includes Japanese words, so I added description in English.
    Capture 1:
    Mac OS X Keyboard Setting
    Capture 2:
    Windows Server 2012R2 Screen Keyboard
    Capture 3:
    Windows Server 2012R2 Screen Keyboard, with a additional registry key configured.

    This bug also affects the Canadian English settings.  If the client is set to Canadian English with a US keyboard the remote server is setup using a Canadian French keyboard.  Using the language selection in the toolbar you can temporarily correct
    the problem but the keyboard resets to french at the most inopportune times.  The was a problem in the earlier RDP client and was fixed so it's sad to see it reoccur in the new client.

    I thought this code:
    onclick="FadeAndUpdateContent('event', 'data/AquoThonFrag.html'); return false;"
    could be added to the tab code like this:
    <a href="javascript:TabbedPanels1.showPanel(1);" onclick="FadeAndUpdateContent('event', 'data/AquoThonFrag.html'); return false;" title="Home" style="background-image:url(/Buttons/Home.png);width:172px;height:75px;display:block;"><br/></a>
    But the content doesnt fade...
    I know i need to change the header etc.
    The following is from the link:
    <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd">
    <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml" xmlns:spry="http://ns.adobe.com/spry">
    <head>
    <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8" />
    <title>Aquo Events</title>
    <script src="../../../includes/SpryEffects.js" type="text/javascript"></script>
    <script src="../../../includes/SpryData.js" type="text/javascript"></script>
    <script type="text/javascript">
    <!--
    function FadeAndUpdateContent(ele, url)
    try {
         Spry.Effect.DoFade(ele,{ duration: 500, from: 100, to: 0, finish: function() {
              Spry.Utils.updateContent(ele, url, function() {
                        Spry.Effect.DoFade(ele,{ duration: 500, from: 0, to: 100 });
    }catch(e){ alert(e); }
    -->
    </script>
    <style type="text/css">
    /* IE HACK to prevent bad rendering when fading. */
    #event { background-color: white; }
    </style>
    </head>
    So i changed my header etc, put the SpryEffects.js and SpryData.js into position and nothing changed...
    Is there a way to keep my tabbed panel (or change as less as possible) and let
    A. The fade work
    B. The loading work.
    The problem now is that it loads all pages instead of only the home. Therefore i wanted this Progressive Enhancement.
    And the fading part is just because its nice...

    It doesnt show in the post but off course i changed this link;
    "data/AquoThonFrag.html"
    into;
    "javascript:TabbedPanels1.showPanel(1);"
    I must say i dont know if this even works...
