The book is in the iBookstore, but...

My compilation book of gardening articles and photographs was accepted by Apple and went live in the bookstore yesterday. After seven months of work, I was thrilled! Then I downloaded the sample chapter (the book has 164 pages, 53 chapters and as I said, lots of photos) it just showed the headline and three pages down in the bottom left corner. When I tapped on the chapter page, it expanded to full size.
Then I bought a copy of the book (at least I sold one copy!) It opens on the Copyright page with tabs across the bottom. Again, if I tap on the page at the bottom, it expands to full size and I can swipe and read the entire book as usual.
It looks terrific except for this issue. I have asked the ibookstore support folks for help but so far no answer. It worries me that unless I instruct each buyer to tap on the first page at the bottom of the Table of Contents, it will look like there is something wrong. Should I have added a photo to each Table of Contents page in iBooks Author?
I am heartsick at the moment and would appreciate any advice. Perhaps this is just a feature of the iBook in landscape mode.
Mny thanks,
Lynn

KT, today I decided to try an experiment because no one from support is going to get back with me until at least tomorrow. I went back to an earlier version of the book to the Table of Contents. I added a photo to the Copyright page and so forth for a few chapters. Then I added this underneath the copyright headline: Tap the thumbnail to get started, then swipe. If there is no other solution, this might work to at least tell readers how to get going.

After establishing the Credit Card account (i.e. after you have made purchases), you can remove the credit card information by editing your payment info, choosing "None".

  • The charts section of the iBookstore is stuck on a specific category

There's normally a button that lets you select categories when looking at the charts section of the iBookstore, but it is missing, leaving me stuck in the last category I was looking at.  Anyone else experiencing this?  I wonder if it has anything to do with the iBooks 2.0 update.

I have just updated to iBook 2.0 and I get the same problem. I can't choose a different category for books in the chart section any longer. Can anyone see a way to do this?

  • How can I update the description of my book that is for sale on the iBookstore?

I have tried to update it through iTunes Producer, in the "Look up Metadata" and the "Open Package" modules.  The new epubs that I upload appear to get published immediately, but the description is never updated in the iBookstore.  I have emailed Apple three times about this in the past two weeks but haven't gotten any response.

I guess I misunderstood the reason for the decrease of your sellings.
I thought you made an update and THAN you got the problem.
But in fact it seems the problem is due to NOT having success with the update.
however, perhaps I can contribute what I got from a friendly person at itunes support:
"With regard to changes that can be made, once a title has been delivered to the iBookstore, the only changes that can be made through iTunes Connect are updates to pricing, territory rights, Cleared For Sale/Not Cleared For Sale, and DRM settings.
For all other changes (e.g. correcting author name or book title), please make a metadata change request through the Contact Us form in iTunes Connect under the topic "Metadata, File Formats, and Subject Categories."
Actually that is not the whole story, particuly regarding using producer. It seems to me that I did read somewhere that there is a kind of maximum for updates per quarter of year. I mean updates that are NIT regarded as new versions of a book. I somebody could write an ibook about all this matters, easy to understand and complete, with an index, would be great. i would buy first.

  • HT5213 I have two books published to the iBookstore via Blurb. Unfortunately, they just used my first name on the second book. It is like it is by a different author to the first book. -The two books are not linked. Is there anyway I can edit the author's

Hello. I have just joined this community and would be grateful for advice on editing my name submitted to the iBookstore by Blurb on one of my books. I would like to have both of my books with the same author's name. Is it possible? Thank you.

Thank you, Tom. I did contact Blurb support back in March and was told the following:
"We are not able to change the specifications of how Apple Itunes show the author's name on their site.
Apple always have strict specifications of how they set up the Ebook on their site.
This issue can only be solved by contacting Apply and they will not change the name of the site".
I didn't know how or where to contact Apple at that time and gave up. I am resurrecting the issue now as I have seen I have sold some books and would like the people who bought them to learn of my other book.
I am grateful to both Blurb and Apple for making my books possible, but I would like to fix this issue. I will contact Blurb again.
    Thanks for your support.

  • Can ibook and ePub versions of the same book be sold in iBookstore?

I have a book published in the iBookstore for iPads currently. I was wondering if it's possible to put an additional copy of the book on iBookstore in ePub format in order to sell on iPhones? The goal would be to have both versions available for the different devices and have them labeled clearly by device. Thanks!

For each market where you have specific requirements due to market-specific licensing or legal issues, you can create a separate app in iTunes Connect and make it available for download only in the relevant market. And if you need to, this also allows you to provide a market-specific EULA. It's a big maintenance burden, but it would ensure that only users in a given market can access the app.
Note that in XCode you can fairly easily build, deploy and publish multiple versions of your project built from different configurations (XCode calls this "Targets"), so you could still achieve this in a single codebase by simply adding some preprocessor definitions in the relevant target definitions and putting#ifdef in your code where you want differentiated logic.
Can you confirm this is incorrect?
    Thanks

Backup with iTunes. If iTunes is asking you if you want to backup, say yes to that and it will backup your iPad. Have you ever synced with this computer before?
My boilerplate response for anyone that wants to update the iOS.
What you should do anytime that you update the device is to transfer purchases from the iPad into iTunes - File>Transfer Purchases - and you should backup the iPad as well. When you update the update the device, if something goes wrong, you can restore from the backup.
However, iTunes should ask if you want to backup before you update, but just in case create the backup yourself before you update. The backup contains your app data and settings - along with other items - so make sure you backup first.
If you have any other important files, you may want to transfer them to your computer as well, prior to the update.

Start contacting them with your particular needs and see who fits best.
Be sure to understand this info:

  • Can I create books for the iBookstore for iPad and iPhone using Pages?

Can I create books for the iBookstore for iPad and iPhone using Pages?

No problem, Peter. iBooks Author makes a lot of things much easier than trying to grapple with a standard epub, but it also has some big limitations, like iPad only, and ibookstore only.
EDIT It's not really suitable for something like a novel, for example, although it's great when you need lots of illustrations and movies and such.

  • Terms to be agreed when creating a Paid Books Account and submitting an iBook to the iBookstore

    Hi there everyone
I'm advising a client on the range of terms to be agreed when its creates an iBook using iBooks Author and then submits the iBook for publication on the iBookstore (using a Paid Books Account, not a Free Books Account).
From what I can glean from various sources, it seems the client needs to agree to:
    the iBooks Author 2.0 License Agreement, when downloading the iBooks Author app from the AppStore;
the eBook Agency/Commissionaire Distribution Agreement (when creating a Paid Books Account through iTunes Connect); and
the iTunes Connect Terms of Service when downloading iTunes Producer (the separate app through which one publishes an iBook to the iBookStore).
There are two things I'm not sure about though. The reason for my lack of certainty is that I don't have a US Tax ID and so cannot replicate the Paid Books Account sign-up process to the stage where I'd have to agree to the various terms and conditions. My  questions, please, are:
Am I correct in thinking that a person is required, when creating a Paid Books Account through iTunes Connect, to agree to the "eBook Agency/Commissionaire Distribution Agreement"?
If so, can anyone email me please ([email protected]) or provide a link to the latest version of the eBook Agency/Commissionaire Distribution Agreement? (I've seen a version online (http://outskirtspress.com/iBookStore_v3.pdf) but don't know whether it's the latest version; I'm thinking it's probably not).
When signing up for a Paid Books Account, is one also required to agree to the "PHG Terms and Conditions" and the "Publisher Program Terms and Conditions" that are attached to them, or is that optional?
Many thanks for any help. Much appreciated.
    Kind regards
    Richard

Any documents/agreements are obtained as part of a contract and not allowed to be distributed in an otherwise uncontrolled manner, which if done, could violate the agreement/contract.
You need to participate in the process to:
    1. Access the latest, binding versions of all agreements/contracts
    2. Possess a tax id/SSN to sign up.
If you have questions about the process, you should contact Apple directly.

  • Action Required: Your book could not be delivered to the iBookstore

    Hi Everyone,
I had a book up on iBooks without any problems but an editor found a couple of corrections that needed to be addressed.  Those are now corrected but the problem I am running into now is right after the package is delivered, I get an email telling me that the book could not be delivered to the iBookstore.  The message tells me that two image files are too large (larger than two million pixels).  This is perplexing to me in a couple of ways; 1.) I did not edit any of the image files, only text and 2.) the filenames mentioned in the email are no where in the original Pages document.
If anyone has some suggestions, I'd greatly appreciate it!!
    Many thanks

    You think it's a book?

Purchased music does not count against your iCloud storage and you cannot get rid of them in the purchased tab.
    What is backed up
You get unlimited free storage for:
Purchased music, movies, TV shows, apps, and books
Notes: Backup of purchased music is not available in all countries. Backups of purchased movies and TV shows are U.S. only. Previous purchases may not be restored if they are no longer in the iTunes Store, App Store, or iBookstore.
Some previously purchased movies may not be available in iTunes in the Cloud. These movies will indicate that they are not available in iTunes in the Cloud on their product details page in the iTunes Store. Previous purchases may be unavailable if they have been refunded or are no longer available in the iTunes Store, App Store, or iBookstore.

  • I have Logic on my iMac and want to install it on my new mac book but my mac book doesn't have a dvd drive. I tried to download the upgrade but it looks for an older version. How do I get Logic on the Mac book ?

I would like to install logic on my new mac book but there is no dvd drive. I tried to downlaod the upgrade but that didn't work. How do I download it for the first time?
    Thanks!

You can only use the App Store version to reinstall on your new Mac if you bought Logic via the App Store in the first place.... and then it will appear under the Purchases tab in the Mac App Store App so long as you are signed in using the same Apple ID you used to purchase Logic via the App store in the first place.
If you bought the DVD edition of Logic Studio then you must initially install using those original DVDs to begin with and then update to the latest version of your version of Logic via software updates.
No DVD drive? Buy an external one.. Amazon do a very cheap basic one that works well..
    or...
Use Remote Disk if you still have your older Mac which has a built in DVD drive...
