The fan in my laptop became very noisy at minimum capacity after ins Win 8.

My laptop - HP Pavilion dv6-6b56er. After installing the Windows 8 the fan in my laptop became very noisy at minimum capacity. As far as I understand this is a common problem. I installed the latest version of HP Support Assistant and HP Support Framework, but there was an error during installation of HP Coolsense "There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A programm run as part of the setup did not finish as expected. Contact your support personnel or package vendor".
Sry for bad Eng, im using Google Translate.

It looks like this unit has received Windows 8 drivers.
How was the system upgraded to Windows 8?  Was it through a clean intall or an in-place upgrade?
Has all Windows 8, including switchable graphics in particular, been installed?
Here is the software page should you need it.
My notebook's fan was operating louder than usual when I upgraded to Windows 8.  This turned out to be that swtichable graphics was broken by the upgrade to Windows 8.  Effectively, both video cards were running simultaneously resulting in more heat being produced.  What resolved it for me was installing getting switchable graphics to work properly.  For me, this required a lot of work since my unit was not certified for Windows 8 and would not get any new software for Windows 8.  It's an old notebook, so this was expected.  However, your system does have a Windows 8 AMD driver for switchable graphics from HP, so I would start by making sure that specific driver is installed.

  • Fans running at 2001rpm but very noisy

Now, I don't think running at 2001rpm should cause both fans to be quite noisy - do you?
I recently had to have a new hard drive installed and when that was done I decided to upgrade to Leopard. Could any of these things have anything to do with it?
Please help to alleviate this very annoying sound

At 2000 RPM, the fans should be silent, so I agree with a call to Applecare. You might even want to run the Apple Hardware Test first to see if you might actually get an error code of some sort. It's possible something happened during the hard drive replacement if the noise started then. But it should all be covered by Applecare.
    Good luck!

  • On my older I-MAC (2005) the computer turns on, but all I see is a grey screen with a small file that has a question mark and smiling FINDER face on it. Then the fan comes on and becomes very loud. Please help...

My older I-MAC gives me a grey screen and flashes a question mark and smiling FINDER face inside a FILE icon. Then the fan begins to run and becomes very loud...and thats as far as it will let me go.

i purchase my netbook 6 months ago and the fan is very load, any ideas

Think for a while about the best way to cost HP money over the long term.
The first step is to not buy any HP products personally.
The next step is to create a marketing / social network infrastructure deticated to educating the public.

  • After the last update my text became very small in all the games, FB and everything else I use via the Internet, is this a known problem or is there something I can do about it

Everything is in small print and a different text, I have not done anything different to my computer so I assume that after the last update things have changed but it is not very satisfactory as I have to zoom on every page as there is no 'set text size' now available to me, it is virtually impossible to read the FB page or the Zynga games.

    Hi Hoddy,
I'd try starting Firefox in [[Safe Mode]]. If you don't have the issue while all of your add-ons, extensions, and themes are disabled, you can try adding them back in one by one until you find the culprit. You should look at the [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/Troubleshooting-extensions-themes Extensions and Themes troubleshooting guide ] and the [[Troubleshooting plugins]] article as well.
You might want to look into some of the [[Accessibility]] options. There is lots of good information in that article.
    Hopefully this helps!

  • Very noisy iMac, fans running at full speed even when performing smal tasks

I have a 2009 21 iMac, recently the computer became very noisy with the fans running at full speed all the time even when checking the email or just using Safari. I don't do anything crazy like 3d renderings so I don't know why the fans wont stop. I recently cleaned it but this didn't seem to solve the problem.
Anyone knows what's the problem and how can I fix it?
    Thanks

  • HP-HP, the fan of the laptop is not functioning properly

    Product name:HP-HP
    Windows 7
Operating system : 64 bit operating system, RAM (4.00 GB)
I encountered the problem this morning. When i boot on my laptop there was an error message showing that the fan of my laptop is not functioning  well and therefore i should visit this site for support. Thank you.

Hello duckzilla2009, welcome to the HP Forums.
I see that you have a message on your notebook about the fan not working correctly. I will try to help you with this.
If you could, please provide the Model and Product numbers for your notebook.
Here are a few documents that may be able to help you with resolve the error message related to your fan.
System Fan (90b) error message on startup - if you're getting that specific message follow this document.
Error: CPU Fan Failed - follow this one for any other fan error message or if the above didn't correct the issue.
Reducing Heat Inside the PC to Prevent Overheating - I'm providing this document, as steps involved could help you with the fan. If the notebook is overheating it would be putting a lot of stress on the fan.
Start with that and let me know how things go.

  • I HAVE FIXED THE FAN PROBLEM

    Hello from Turkey. I have just bought a 3000 n200. It's a great machine.
As you all know, the fan gets higher and gets slower, gets higher and slower again and again.
IF YOU SET YOUR BATTERY OPTIONS TO  ''BATTERY SAVING'' MODE
The fan will get REST . I mean the fan will work in normal speed.
Plus you will get much more battery life
Try this until Lenovo engineers fixes this small problem (probably by an bios-update)

    Hello again,
Whenever i click on something (for example to windows media player, explorer new window etc.), the fan speeds up for 1 seconds and gets low again.
In this review, it's is clearly told that the fan gets up and down very often.
''The fan on this laptop, while having the ability to spin slowly, likes to quickly ramp up at the slightest temperature increase. It also has no delay, causing the fan to quickly speed up, slow down, speed up, slow down, etc. This started to drive me up the wall when some programs were running. I am hoping a BIOS fix comes around to mellow out the fan''
That is exactly what I am complain about.

  • Is it necessary to replace the entire motherboard if the fan needs to be changed?

I recently sent in my MacBook pro (mid-2009) to a authorized service provider for repairs. I brought it in because of those weird noises coming from inside the MacBook and that it became very hot after running for awhile. The technician ran a simple diagnostic and it seemed to be a problem with the fan, and he advised me it would involve replacing the entire motherboard should there be a need to replace the fan. The question is that really necessary? I have visited a few forums and most indicated only the fan needs to be replaced. Does anyone have any comments on this? I am hoping I have not been taken for a ride.

fak838- Here is an instructional guide on how to replace the fan on a Mid 2009 MBP 13".  No mention of a motherboard replacement as a part of the process is mentioned.: http://www.ifixit.com/Guide/Installing-MacBook-Pro-13-Inch-Unibody-Mid-2009-Fan/ 1338/1.  If you mac is a different size, here is the 15" version and for replacement of both the right and left fans, motherboard replacement is not indicated as being necessary in order to replace the fans: http://www.ifixit.com/Device/MacBook_Pro_15%22_Unibody_Mid_2009

  • The fan is not working. what should i do ?

The fan in my laptop is not working and I get a message regarding that when I start the laptop. What should I do ?

It depends on if you are under warranty. If so, it just has to be sent in. If you are out of warranty it depends on if you feel comfortable taking a screwdriver to a laptop. However it gets done, by HP, a shop or you the fan has to be replaced. It would help to know the model fo the laptop so we can advise how hard it is going to be. The part is cheap, the labor probably not so much.

  • How to get to the fan of Compaq Presario CQ62?

I believe there is an issue with the fan of my laptop, and I opened up the back of it in hopes that I could get to the fan and take a peek to see if it was merely a cleaning issue.  I failed to find a way to actually get to the fan.  I removed all visible screws and still couldn't manage to figure out how to get to the fan.  Can anyone offer assistance or point me in the right direction of how to figure this out?  Thanks.

You unscrew all the screws including the one under the battery.  Make sure you remove all RAM and Hard Drives.  Carefully pry up the key board (if you did miss some screws underneath the keyboard will not come up), DO NOT pry from the bottem or else you can break some of the keyboard wires.  There is one screw under the keyboard, take it out.  There are some wires under the keyboard that you can see pluged into the main circut board remove them all carefully ( the ribbions will come out by lifting the top where the ribbon is connected, and do not forget the one on the top left hand side (careful not to break the wires).   Now from unerneath remove all the doors and unplug the wireless card,  its about 1 1/2 by 1 inches.  Now carfully pry the shell aprt while its right side up ( the mother board is screwed into the bottem half of the shell).  The mother board has two screws holding it down take them out and unplug the wires on the right side and one on the bottem. Now lift the mother board on the right side and carfully slide it out, it may be slightly binded aroung the fan.  The fan is on the bottem of the mother board.  If you want to remove the fan you have to remove the heat sink so you need extra heat sink.
I hear HP laptops have a lot of fan issues,  I had a HP pavillion 6000 that had fan problems, and now this one.  I sent it off to get the CPU fixed and came back like this.  I do not trust HP to fix my computers any more and do all maintanance my self.

  • Tecra R840-16J - reboot with the fan at full power and no activity

    Hi,
Has anyone found this behavior too?
After rebooting (this happened a couple of times...with the hdd and today with the ssd so it should not be their fault) the windows or toshiba screen do not appears only a black screen, no disc activity and the fan works like crazy!!! I stop this after 1-2 minutes because nothing happen!
    Cheers,
    paulo

Hi, yestarday I restarted the computer, I would say 10-12 times...and this event appeared again one time, apparentelly with no reason! After 3 min, the fan was at full with no disc activity! Turn off the laptop and turn it on put everything to normal!!!!
I know that my R840 have a fan test (cooling test or something like that....I'm at work now), is it possible that test runs automatically for any reason?
But maybe, as you say, I should check the Bios! But what is strange to me is that this only happens from time to time!

  • When I connect my Macbook Air to the thunderbolt display the fans run constantly

I dont understand.... but the fans seem to run at full speed the entire time I'm connected to the the thunderbolt display.
My cpu usage is blow 10% and and the cpu temp from istat is showng as 72
I understand the fans kicking in once in a while but these run for hours and hours at full speed (6496 rpm)
    Anyone else having this problem?

I have the same issue. I've had the MBA for a couple months now and haven't had the fan kick up hardly at all. A few minutes after it's connnected to my new T'bolt display though it kicks in and stays on. I've updated firmware once but there may be others and it hasn't helped.
Mine is in the closed position in a Book Arc and I've only got Chrome open for browsing so far.

  • Do the fans speed up when running Apple Service Diagnostic?

When i run apple service diagnostic cd (2.5.8) the fans really speed up and don't slow down so after a few minutes i stop the testing, is this normal?. It seems like it is the rear fans that are going full speed, can't tell if any of the other fans are speeding up or not, i stop the testing after a few minutes as i don't know if this is normal or not and don't want to cause any damage.

Unless you bathe the computer in helium gas, I doubt if the fans will run faster than their designed speed even full bore.
The helium gas relates to a war story told by my motors and transformers prof "way back when" of a cooling fan in a nuclear facility where the atmosphere in the containment vessel was helium for whatever reason. The fan was powered by a universal motor which had nameplate voltage applied to it. The thing that limits the universal is turning resistance, and helium, being less dense in that environment, provided much less resistance to the fan blades, thus allowing the fan to overspeed and then disintegrate from the resulting centrifugal force. From that, I learned that interdisciplinary engineering teams really do need to talk to each other on a constant basis. Plus, I guess I learned a valuable lesson if I ever decided to build my backyard nuke.
